As most directors start in commercials, Nema sees an opportunity in short form content on TikTok. Over the next year, Nema plans to create a series of narrative short films for TikTok completely independent of any brands. Although Mike is widely known for his hands-on and scientific knowledge of all things Wild Turkey, he and his harem of hunting buddies and clients are luckier than most when it comes to actually harvesting the mature bucks they grow. One topic of discussion included tips for encouraging older bucks to set foot in food plots during daylight hours, including how they manage pressure and habitat in the vicinity to really set the scene. This week Tee was delighted to welcome Tom Volinchak to the podcast for a deep dive into the world of water and what you need to know about it. Tom is a globally recognized authority on the science behind water purification technology and water science. Tom's love affair with science began as a young boy going through three chemistry sets at age 10 and learning 5 different ways to blow things up by the age of 12. By the age of 15 Tom was creating homemade electronic gadgets to alter the sound of his guitar and accordion kicking off a lifelong love affair with engineering and technology. Tom received a BS in Biology focused on Microbiology and Virology, with a minor in Chemistry. Just a few of his accomplishments included designing high-purity water technology for Aerospace, Power Generating, Automotive, Electronics, Chemical/Petrochemical, and Heavy Industry. Tom was responsible for placing water technologies and purification systems with US Steel, Union Carbide, Degussa, Ohio Edison, Penn Power, American Electric Service, and Ford Motors. Tom created his own consulting firm aimed at eliminating toxic drinking water and offering education, consulting, and problem-solving services to anyone experiencing water challenges. He continues to provide high-purity water services, water recycling, and waste minimization/green water technology to industries and institutions across the globe. His designs have found homes with entities such as Drexel Chemicals, PMC Biogenix, Georgia Pacific, Hardy Bottling, St. Jude Children's Hospital, The Cleveland Clinic, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Tennessee, and many more. Tom was Recognized for designing the first US Deionized water system for Honda Motors and also created a company around the world's first-ever, 100% green water purification media. Filmmmaker Jeannette Godoy screens her romcom feature film "Diamond In The Rough" on September 22nd as part of the NY Latino Film Festival at the Regal Union Square. Jeannette is a talented writer, producer, director and my lovely wife. She started in the business as a dancer/choreographer, choreographing Sir Mix A Lot's "Baby Got Back" before making her first commercial for Bridgestone Tires that took her to Cannes Lions Festival over there in France. Along the way, she's directed dozens of spots for Nike, Bumble, CDC, PetSmart and more. During the pandemic she created a web series "Pure Corazòn" for Bumble, then directed her first episode of television for HBO Max's "The Garcias". In this episode of BackTable ENT, pediatric otolaryngologists Dr. Anthony Sheyn (St. Jude Children's Hospital & Le Bonheur Children's Hospital), Dr. Jeffrey Rastatter (Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago), and Dr. Daniel Chelius (Texas Children's Hospital), discuss challenges and research in health equity in pediatric head and neck cancer care. --- SHOW NOTES First, the surgeons define the Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) and explain how studying these factors improves care. They share memories of when they first reckoned with health inequities as clinicians. For Dr. Chelius, this was during medical school, when he observed end-stage renal disease patients' access to dialysis (and thus lifespan) depended on their insurance status, income, and education. Moving into his residency, he realized that similar forces shaped how patients accessed cancer care. As a young attending, Dr. Sheyn noticed that many of his patients missed appointments for logistical or financial reasons, which piqued his interest in characterizing how SDoH influence pediatric cancer care. Next, the doctors discuss health equity research. Though they're based at different institutions, the three surgeons collaborate to study how SDoH affect pediatric head and neck cancer outcomes. Dr. Rastatter shares his work identifying how different SDoH– including socioeconomic status, household composition, housing/transportation, and minority/language status – interact to affect access to cancer care. Dr. Chelius speaks to the importance of social work, advanced practice providers, and transportation services in connecting patients to care. The podcast concludes with a discussion of how tertiary care centers can better collaborate with community clinicians to ensure pediatric patients with rare cancers get the workup and treatment they need.
