Apostle John was a disciple of Yeshua, and he was an eyewitness to the things that occurred with Yeshua. Apostle John also writes about some of the things that took place with John the Immerser/Baptist. John the Immerser was ministering to people who had knowledge of the coming Messiah. Last week we talked about The Messiah, Elijah, and that Prophet. John the Immerser makes a statement in this passage that clearly reveals Yeshua as the Atonement sacrifice when he says, Behold the Lamb of Elohim which take away the sin of the world. John has a worldview when he says that Father is not just concerned about Israel, He's concerned about the world. Almost every Passover, the phrase, “Behold the Lamb” or the “Lamb of God” is used in reference to Yeshua as the Passover Lamb. In this passage, John is not referring to Yeshua as the Passover Lamb but as the Atonement Sacrifice for the sins of the world.
Christopher Moore returns to talk about his wise comic novel Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in this year of our Lord 2022. Chris discusses how wanted to create a tale of friendship and ended up getting taught in divinity schools; the rewards of swinging for the fences and wading through Thomas Aquinas; getting the facts and theology right when not getting it wrong on purpose; the secret of what actually went on during Jesus' rumspringa; the challenge of not having conversational Aramaic; and constant vigilance against the ever-present danger of losing your reader. (Length 29:57)
Hi all!!!This week we began discussing the wonderful weather we've been blessed with, but then the conversation turned into story time with Jo that lead to a brief mention to how scientist are questioning if women have the ability impregnate themselves, so exciting!Let's start with Man and Jo's birthday celebration extravaganza!!! Which consisted of pedicures, piercings, and a mighty book haul.We both picked up Anatomy a Love Story by Dana Shwartz. Man added to her stack Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco, and a couple of Chuck Palahniuks. While Jo added a little quirk to her stack with Christopher Moore's A Dirty Job, You Suck, and Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Friend. We dip into the last episodes of Season 2 of Euphoria on HBOMax. I've never wanted to be so wrong but the unfortunate events that unravel in the last episode gripped our hearts tight and we find ourselves hoping for the best and preparing for the worst for Ashtray.Heels (2021) on STARZs stars Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig created by Michael Waldron (producer of Loki and Rick and Morty), follows the complicated life of Jack and Ace Spade in this authentic portrayal of the wrestling world and its complexities in and out of the ring. The performances, the betrayals, the accents! On March 4th the newest Batman finally hit theaters. The Batman directed by Matt Reeves starring Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Collin Farrell, Paul Dano, John Turturro, Andy Serkis and many more. We follow a very angry and determined Bruce Wayne on his second year as Batman/Vengeance in this noire version of greatness. Heavy with dialogue and fighting, the play with lighting and darkness is everything we wanted from a batman movie. The Batman gives Bruce Wayne's well known tragedy a leg to stand on, giving his perfect family a major flaw he might not be able to live with while trying to stop The Riddler (Dano), who, in my opinion, gave Heath Ledger's Joker a run for his money, with a performing just as terrifying and maybe more psychotic. We hope you've enjoyed our show so far and continue to tune in every Wednesday!
Happy New Year Sweet Souls! The podcast is on holiday break until January 16, 2022 and we are revisiting some of our favorite episodes in the podcast library! Re-Release: I'm delighted this week to have Christopher Moore as my guest. Chris is an international novelist and New York Times bestselling author. I asked Chris to come to the show to talk about his influential book "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christs' Childhood Pal." After my departure from the Catholic Church I picked up this humorous tale of Jesus' gap years and it helped heal me in a way I never knew a fiction book could do. It also affirmed my own path with destiny. Chris shares how this book came to be, the journey he took Joshua on and why it's connected with so many people. He's also shares a story of how his book was sent to the Pope and how it's been taught at Harvard Divinity school and many others! It is Wednesday, April 1st, 2020! Welcome to the latest episode of I Like Books. Listen as we go through our usual segments: Author CrushGals Analyzing SentencesI Like BooksBible Bait and SwitchWhat's Been Okay Today.AUTHOR CRUSH: Lulu's current author crush is Sue Monk Kidd, who wrote The Secret Life of Bees. Alison's author crush this month was chosen because he was born on April 1st, and you know how she loves a theme! Edmond Rostand's poetry is what she can't get enough of right now. His play Cyrano de Bergerac was adapted into a modern day movie starring Steve Martin, called Roxanne.Gals Analyzing Sentences, aka GAS: Lulu analyzes the opening line from George Orwell's 1984 - “It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.” Could there be a better way to start a book about a world where not everything makes sense by having the clocks strike thirteen? Alison selected a passage from Everything Under by Daisy Johnson - "I am thirteen years old, and indebted to you and to words, and to the tangle of bank and water and forest." Her out-of-context analyzation is fascinating, she didn't read the sentences around her selected sentence. As in, she didn't read the book.I LIKE BOOKS (Book Review): This week we are reviewing the delightful children's book Sheeple, written by Royal Ragsdale and published by Happy Face Books, and the California Heritage Cookbook from the Junior League of Pasadena in 1976.Bible Bait and Switch: The fan-favorite segment where you walk into a hotel room and switch out that top drawer bible with any book of your choosing! Lulu chooses a bold replacement - Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. Alison goes for a practical choice - Anger Management for Dummies. What’s Been Okay Today?: Being able to remove and sew on a button, and opening up a pickle jar on one try, are the parts of our days that were #okaytoday! Christopher Moore, the author of such wonderful comic novels as Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal; Fool; The Serpent of Venice; The Stupidest Angel; Bloodsucking Fiends; Practical Demonkeeping; Sacre Bleu, and many others, has a new novel out called Noir, and it's wonderfully comic, weird, and surprisingly poignant, all of which are hallmarks of a Chris Moore novel. Chris talks about this new novel's inspirations which, it turns out, are varied and many. Featuring San Francisco history, film and literary precedent, surprisingly Shakespearean inspirations, weird connections to Roswell, loving language, shout-out to Damon Runyon, the joys of touring (and how to train for it), teasing future novels, and the Top Secret First Thing They Teach You at Famous Author School. 'Tis the season! Christopher Moore, the author of Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal; Fool; The Serpent of Venice; Sacre Bleu; The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove: and the upcoming Noir, talks about his “heart-warming tale of Christmas terror” The Stupidest Angel, how it came to be written, how it fits with the rest of his oeuvre, and also what's coming next. Featuring a return to Pine Cove, the fun of playing with existing characters, purposely misleading cover art, inclement weather, writing the thing you want to read, the secret to writing moving or funny novels, and how one creates a wonderful celebration of — and antidote to — our favorite winter holiday.
