When I first saw this Work of the Week on the Crawford Art Gallery Website, I couldn't determine quite what I was looking at, despite the fact that it's a photograph. This week we discuss Danny DeVito throwing some shade (as they say) on Colin Farrell's Penguin performance. Who's interpretation is the better Penguin? We discuss. Peacock has finished filming the Twisted Metal TV series adaptation of the 90's video game. Will it be any good? Also there was an alternative end credit scene at the end of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, written by Michael Waldron that featured Reed Richards, do we think this could mean John Krasinski could reprise his role in other movies? Are the old Fantastic Four movies cannon? We speculate. Also Jordan Peele may not be done with the Nope world. Would we like to see another Nope sequel? Shia LeBeouf claimed that the final product of Honey Boy was not what he had originally envisioned regarding the portrayal of his father. Also we discuss the drama between him and Olivia Wilde on the set of Don't Worry Darlings starring Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Gemma Chan, Kiki Layne, Nick Kroll, and Chris Pine. Halloween Ends has new photos from the movie, are we excited for the last of the trilogy? Then for See It or Skip It, we discuss Weird: The Al Yankovic Story starring Daniel Radcliffe "Weird Al" Yankovic ; Evan Rachel Wood Madonna ; Rainn Wilson Dr. Demento ; Julianne Nicholson Mary Yankovic ; Thomas Lennon. In which the Mister and Monsters join me in reviewing DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS (2022), which is currently streaming on Disney+ but also still in theaters. The film, written by Michael Waldron, is directed by Sam Raimi, from characters created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. The story begins by following America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), a young woman who's powers have gotten her lost in the Multiverse and she encounters Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). Her powers have also painted a target on her back and something or someone is out to get her. She appeals to him for help and Stephen goes to his old friend and fellow Avenger, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) to recruit her to help him get America to her proper place. Secrets and plans are revealed and Dr. Strange must race against time and through the Multiverses to help America. A fantastic film that incorporates a lot of Raimi-isms, cool FX work, costumes, set pieces and splendid performances make this a MUST WATCH. The film has a run time of 2 h 6 m, and is rated PG-13. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review. Opening intro music: GOAT by Wayne Jones, courtesy of YouTube Audio Library. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jokagoge/support

Script Apart listeners, fortify your minds – this week, we're joined by Michael Waldron, the screenwriting sorcerer supreme behind Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Directed by Sam Raimi, this latest Marvel blockbuster is superhero storytelling with the handbrake off. A cosmic adventure packed with inter-dimensional chases, one-eyed squid monsters and motivational talks from zombie corpses, this 28th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe well and truly lived up to the “madness” of its title. The film follows surgeon-turned-superhero Stephen Strange as he attempts to protect a young hero, America Chavez, with the power to open portals between locations in the multiverse. It's a journey that sends the wizard on a horror movie-descent into darkness and violence, as familiar characters from the MCU make shocking lurches into villainy. Wrestling all of that into some kind of coherent story would be challenging for any writer. Luckily, Michael was pretty well-prepared for such a task, despite having been roped into the project at the last minute following the departures of original writers Scott Derickson and C. Robert Cargill. Michael had prior experience bringing complex sci-fi concepts to life with a lightness of touch, having written for the hit animated series Rick and Morty. He was also on the Black List a few years ago for a genius spec script called The Worst Guy Of All Time, And The Girl Who Came To Kill Him. That screenplay contained a lot of the unrelenting momentum and time-hopping shenanigans that we see in Strange 2. It also helped, of course, that he was the head writer on Loki, the Marvel series that introduced the multiverse concept in the first place.Michael told us how the darkness of the Covid-19 pandemic helped him craft that second act surprise. We also discuss how hard it was to balance the terror and tragedy of a certain witchy character in this movie, and address the meaning of the question “are you happy?” that Doctor Strange is faced with again and again in Michael's screenplay. Even superheroes, it seems, experience dissatisfaction and feelings of “what now? Is that it?” The film is out today on Disney+ so be sure to watch it before you dive into this spoiler special.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. In episode 112 of The Force Geeks: A Star Wars Podcast, Nate, Jake and Chris break down Part III of the Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi series to discuss the big reveals in this spoiler special review. They break down the new characters introduced and have high praise for series director Deborah Chow. The Geeks also dive into the character of the Third Sister, Reva, and share some insight from the show creators about why her character seems one-dimensional, even over the top, in the beginning while also showing support for the actress Moses Ingram after recent online attacks against her. The Geeks also explore the rumor about whether we can expect a second season of the limited run series as signs are starting to point that way.The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau offers some details about the upcoming Mandoverse crossover event that is on the horizon, someday. The Geeks also discuss the MCU architect Kevin Feige's new Star Wars movie with an update from script writer Michael Waldron. And there is some news for when you can expect a Lando series. All the links to the original sources can be found in the notes and I urge you to check them out. 1.The Obi-Wan Kenobi series will debut in less than two weeks on Disney Plus and the press tour surrounding it is in full swing. This past week Director Debora Chow and stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christense and Moses Ingram were seen in Berlin and London. In talking about her character, an Imperial Inquisitor named Reva, Moses Ingram said QUOTE “She is ruthless. She doesn't care about what people think about the way she does things. She'll cut people down and get the job done whatever it takes.” The actress went on to say about her costars, “even on set there were lifelong fans who would just get so moved by being around Ewan or Hayden. I think it's going to be a big deal for fans to see them at the center.” There have been no new nuggets of information about the story shared so far on the press tour but Ewan did say that it took him some time to get back to the Alec Guiness style of speaking for the title role. Obi-Wan Kenobi debuts on Disney plus on Friday, May 27th with the first two episodes of the six-part series.2.Video game industry insider Jeff Grubb said on a recent Grubbsnax stream that the title for the sequel to the wildly popular Jedi: Fallen Order game will be Jedi: Survivor. Grub has also said in previous scoops that gameplay footage from the sequel to the EA RESPAWN game would be shared at Star Wars Celebration later this month. The video game reporter also claims that Jedi: Survivor will be a next-gen console game only. There is no release date or confirmation of the title at this time.3.Keeping with video game news, Lego, the Skywalker Saga continues to make waves in the industry. According to the website GamesBeat, the brick-based Star Wars game is already ranked as the number two selling video game of 2022 so far ahead of the latest Pokemon offering and the epic Horizon Zero Dawn sequel trailing only Elden Ring in sales. 4.Bryce Dallas Howard was interviewed by friend of the podcast, Germain Lussier at io9 recently and of course the topic of Star Wars came up. The daughter of Solo 2 director Ron Howard, has been behind the camera for two episodes of the Mandalorian and the Book of Boba Fett episode titled “Return of the Mandalorian.” When asked if there was a story that would spark her interest in direting a Star Wars film she said quote “Oh my goodness, I think it would take someone asking me.” Bryce will next be seen ON screen reprising her role as Claire Dearing for the third time when Jurassic World Dominion hits theaters June 10th.5.Speaking of directors on Disney Plus Star Wars shows, this week, in a simple photo of a an Ahsoka-logo emblazoned directors chair and a signature cowboy hat belonging to one Dave Filoni, the official star wars twitter account revealed that production has officially begun on the Ahsoka live-action series. Shortly thereafter, rumors emerged from movie scooper Daniel RPK and Adam Frazier that actor Mathew Law has been brought on to the show in a quote “big role.” The Six-foot one Law is best known for a role in four episodes of Agents of Shield. This unconfirmed casting joins other rumored actors including Natasha Loo Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, and Mary Elizabeth Winsted, Ivanna Sahkno (SOK-NO) and Ray Stevenson in unidentified roles. The Ahsoka series does not yet have an official release date.6.Michael Waldron, the writer who worked on Loki and Doctor Strange among other Marvel projects, is finally turning his attention to the long rumored Kevin Feige Star Wars film. He told Variety QUOTE ““We're finally into it in earnest. I mean, I'm writing away. It's a lot of fun…It just doesn't have a bunch of TV shows and movies that you're servicing on top of it, the way I did with Doctor Strange. So it's nice..” The Feige film was first mentioned in 2019 and is expected to be a one-off project. There is no title or release date from Lucasfilm for the movie at this time.7.In Star Wars book news, friend of the show Mike Chen is officially a Star Wars novelist. His new book hit shelves on May 10 called Brotherhood and it chronicles events at the start of the Clone Wars and features the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Included in the book are familiar characters Padme Amidala and Asajj Ventress. You can buy the book now at the link in the show notes from Amazon. 8.Also this week, the cover for Star Wars: The Princess and the Scoundrel was revealed featuring Han Solo and Leia Organa in a romantic pose with the Halcyon Starcruiser and the ewok village on Endor in opposing corners. But trouble lurks in the form of stormtroopers charging in at the edge of the artwork. Beth Revis' novel is expected to hit shelves on August 16 this year. That wraps it up for this week's Disturbances in the Force.
