Chris Forsberg joins Larry H. Russell to discuss if the Boston Celtics woeful rebounding will cripple the team's chances in 2016-17
One week to go: The Boston Celtics are entering their final week of the pre-season. It is just the exhibition NBA season, but thus far, the Celts have looked good and the fans (those who watched) have to be pleased with what they see. How will this translate to the regular season which begins in ten days? The returning Larry H. Russell tries to answer this question the best he can while also giving his own player outlook for this season. Bob Ryan of The Boston Globe returns to the featured guest chair once again and takes some rapid fire questions from LHR. Questions include: What's the best and worst case with Boston in 2017? Is there a concrete definition to what is and what is not a successful season? What are the team's biggest and least of concerns? Which teams, save for the Cleveland Cavaliers present the most problems with the Celts in the East? With the season just days a week, LHR and Bob give an entire individual and team rundown on the coming 2016-17 NBA campaign. It's all on this week's Celtics Beat. Three NBA pre-season games are in the books for the Boston Celtics, and there have been some decent takeaways. So much so that we actually have a mailbag this week on Celtics Beat. Justin Poulin of Celtics Stuff Live, sits in this week for Larry H. Russell to discuss the opening slate of pre-season basketball. Jeff Clark, founder of CelticsBlog joins Justin in Suday's featured segment to talk about what they've seen thus far in the pre-season. Such as how the floor spacing created by Horford has really benefited Jaylen Brown and Isaiah Thomas, the battle for the final roster spot and whether or not the Celtics can beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in the regular season. And that's not all. Justin and Bobby Manning of CelticsBlog run through the mailbag and answer (almost) all of your questions! It's all on this week's Celtics Beat. Cherry on top: The 2016 Boston Celtics Off-Season is now likely over and the countdown to NBA Training Camp is officially on. The Celtics had a very busy NBA Draft, made a major splash with Al Horford, almost lured Kevin Durant, and were quiet again on the trade front. Unquestionably a better team for 2017, the Celts are rapidly rising in the NBA ranks. Austin Ainge, Boston Celtics Director of Player Personnel returns to CLNS Radio to recap the entire Off-Season with Larry H. Russell in this week's very special Summer in Review show. Starting from the immediate fallout of the playoff defeat, Austin provides exclusive insight into how the team planned to approach the summer then; what the brass felt would be the best pathways to immediately improve the roster while maintaining long-term flexibility. LHR and Austin review the transpirings of the summer in chronological order: Did the NBA Draft go as well as the team planned? What did they get out of it? Why weren't the able to get any potential moves done? And of course, July 4th weekend: What went down: Al Horford. And what didn't: Kevin Durant. Austin also provides his thoughts on this year's team and caps it off by, yes, providing a letter grade for the Celtics summer. There's also immediate reaction. The Lead Sports Matt Keller stops by following Austin's appearance to offer his analysis on Ainge's interview. It's a jammed-packed edition of Celtics Beat. July 31, 2007: The nine year anniversary of Kevin Garnett being traded to the Boston Celtics. Many have drawn today's date as the "line in the sand" for potential trades to occur. Today, Jimmy Toscano of the Boston Metro joins Nick Gelso to fill the host duties for Larry H. Russell. A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE is today's featured guest. With Doc Rivers recently back in the news for his candid interview on The Vertical Podcast, Toscano, Gelso and Blakely discuss everything nostalgic from the Kevin Garnett Era, Paul Pierce retiring with the Boston Celtics. Heck, even Dennis Johnson's name creeps into the conversation. In current Celtics news, Sherrod discusses Jae Crowder taking exception to his 2017 Free Agents Article on Twitter, who will make the roster, Marcus Smart's potential and they even go cliche and give their win predictions if the season were to start today. Thursday, February 18th 2016 -- the NBA Trade Deadline. A day that has served as a franchise altering day for so many teams including the Boston Celtics themselves. Last year alone saw the organization acquire All Star-to-be Isaiah Thomas from the Phoenix Suns, and the team has not looked back since. Could something bigger and better be on the horizon this year? CLNS Radio will take you up, to, and through the 3 PM ET deadline with special live coverage on the Celtics Post-Game Show feed starting at 2:30 PM ET on CLNSRadio.com. There's no guarantee the Celtics may acquire another star player for the stretch run, but CLNS Radio offers you a panel of hosts in a very special show with the Celtics Stuff Live team of Justin Poulin and Jon Duke. And joining them will be Larry H. Russell himself as they will cover the Boston Celtics comings and goings starting at 2:30 and going for as long as needed to cover what very well could be a historic day for the franchise. The CSL train keeps rolling along as Sean Grande joins the crew along with a special guest from Omaha (or was it Idaho?). With the impending deadline, there was certainly trade talk and rumors to discuss, but Sean had many stats in his pocket. Jon and Justin also announced the details for a ticket giveaway (follow them on twitter CSL_Duke/CSL_Justin and don't forget to #CSLReturns to enter the drawing). ESPN New Hampshire's Patrick Gilroy weighs in, and don't worry there'll be plenty of talks regarding the deadline. Steve Smith of NBAtv and Turner Sports stops by for a little All Star game sitdown as he and LHR go Around the NBA and the Eastern Conference. It's the 30th anniversary for the 1986 Boston Celtics championship. Is that the best single season team in NBA history? Bob Ryan, author, commentator, and longtime columnist for the Boston Globe is the most well-regarded individual to answer that question and he'll join Celtics Beat to offer his take with host Larry H. Russell. LHR and Bob will relive that season in a way so unique from any other entity. Are there any arguments as to what teams were better. What about Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar led Lakers in 1987? Or any of the best Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls teams such as those in 1992 or 1996? Yes, we may be in the midst of the NBA season and LHR will touch briefly upon the week and what lies ahead. But a special season does call for the occasional special show. So the tradition-seekers will definitely appreciate the 141st edition of Celtics Beat. Celtics Beat is brought to you by audiblepodcast.com/celtics, Casper, American Farmer's Network, and Harry's. An up-and-down season thus far has produced yet another up-and-down week for the Boston Celtics. After Friday night's huge win against the Atlanta Hawks, it finished on a big up as the Celts have clawed their way back to .500. It will be hard to continue it today as the Celtics will travel to play Russell Westbrook and possibly Kevin Durant as they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder. Justin Poulin will take about today's game briefly with Larry H. Russell in the American Farmer's Network Pre-Game segment. Jeff Goodman, ESPN basketball insider will also make a return appearance to the show. College basketball is now officially underway and there isn't a better person to talk too. But Jeff and LHR will delve more into just the college hoops and prospects ranks. There will be, yes, more Celtics talk. Here's a question not just for Jeff, but the Celtics Beat audience as it's the Facebook Question of the Week: Should the Boston Celtics take the Brooklyn Nets picks off the table during trade discussions? The games are underway and we've got another packed show. Larry H. Russell is back in the saddle to discuss the Boston Celtics as they keep chugging along during the NBA pre-season is now underway and the Boston Celtics are returning back to the United States after a trip overseas for NBA Europe. LHR will be joined by Brent Barry of NBAtv. Bones will be back for his third go-around with LHR and call this segment the unofficial official preview of the 2016 NBA campaign. From the NBA season to the off-season: amassing the roster for the 2016 Boston Celtics and other NBA teams has begun. Free agency kicked off back on Wednesday and the Celtics struck with Toronto Raptors Amir Johnson while also re-upping Jonas Jerebko and Jae Crowder. Yay or Nay? Larry H. Russell gives it a meh while also talking many fans off the bridge. The Celtics rainy day fun is still loaded and it turns out that certain options just didn't present themselves. There's no reason to be upset but unfortunately the patience must continue. In the mind of one LHR, he doesn't think that Boston being unable to land a big fish is an indictment on Boston but what do you think? That is our Reacht Question of the Week Sean Deveney of Sporting News will be back to discuss all that transpired and what lies ahead for the Celtics. Attention now turns to the trade market to fill out the roster of the roster. What are potential targets for the Celtics and what does Sean think of the Celts off-season thus far? Not a bad week to go Around the NBA in 5 either. Alas the 2015 is in the books: The Golden State Warriors are the world champions of basketball after defeating the LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games. That is our Reacht Question of the Week And now the NBA off-season is officially underway. LHR will be joined by Gery Woelfel - NBA Insider for the Racine Journal Times to discuss all things NBA and of course, yes, Boston Celtics basketball! Spring is here and so is the sprint to the finish line for the Boston Celtics and the rest of the NBA. The green team finds themselves right in the midst of the chase for the final two spots in the Eastern Conference NBA Playoffs. Larry H. Russell will break down the week that was for the Celtics. Was it a successful week? Two tough, but somewhat expected losses against two elite Western Conference foes in the Oklahoma City Thunder and the World Champion San Antonio Spurs followed the end of the Celts' five game winning streak. Whatever one makes of it, it's in the books. LHR will look ahead to what could very well be a make-or-break week for Boston's playoff hopes with huge games against foes like the Brooklyn Nets and the Miami Heat. Let's not get ahead of ourselves either, as Boston has their hands full tonight when Greg Monroe comes to town with the rest of the Detroit Pistons. And of course, the guest: LHR will be privileged to be joined by Basketball Hall of Famer Jackie MacMullan of ESPN Boston. There are few in the media who know more regarding the state of the Celtics than Jackie, and she'll be sure to provide the Celtics Beat audience the lowdown on Brad Stevens, the Celtics now, and the Celtics in the future. What does Jackie make of them? More importantly, what do those in an around the NBA make of the Boston Celtics franchise. LHR will also wrap the show up by going Around the NBA in 5. The Ides of March are upon us: A major checkpoint in the NBA season. The sprint to the finish line now begins. Who knew as late as mid January that the Boston Celtics would play a major factor in the outlook of the 2015 NBA campaign? The playoff chase is officially on. It was a busy, but successful week for the Celtics with a real highlight win over the Memphis Grizzlies at home on Wednesday. Plus the team picked up some solid victories against the Miami Heat and Orlando Magic. Fans are thrilled, and host Larry H. Russell is one of them. LHR will be joined by Ian Thomsen, now of NBA.com. Ian wrote a feature on Danny Ainge and the Celtics rebuilding project back on February 17th titled “Danny Ainge's Balancing Act.” LHR will discuss that feature with Ian, and will dive into further detail with where Ian thinks the Celtics stand in all of this. How does Boston's rebuilding plan stack up? Particularly against the rival New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers? LHR will also wrap the show up by going Around the NBA in 5. NBA All Star Weekend is finally upon us and the Boston Celtics are off until next Friday night when they resume action out West against George Karl and the Sacramento Kings. The Celtics head into the break on a high note, winning their lone game of the week -- a buzzer-beating win against the NBA's best team, the Atlanta Hawks. Larry H. Russell is becoming ever more so pleased with the development and improvement of certain individuals on the Boston roster as well as the positive steps the team seems to be taking. The Celtics may not be there yet, but there should be some serious intrigue in this team the second half of the season which some would've considered a feat in itself just a month ago. And as intriguing as these Celtics are, the NBA may be as interesting as it has ever been. Longtime NBA veteran, two-time NBA World Champion, 1996 Slam Dunk King and current NBAtv analyst Brent Barry will hop back on the show. There's a lot to talk about at the NBA All Star break. Are these Hawks truly for real? Are the Hawks or Warriors truly the favorites despite having the best record in their respective conferences. And Charles Barkley - he called out the analytics movement. What's Bones' take on that? Brent and LHR will discuss this and more on this All Star Sunday edition of Celtics Beat. There's still even enough to talk about more NBA topics. LHR goes Around the NBA in 5 at the conclusion of the show. Our last show of 2014 is a special one. ‘The Baseline' team of Cal “Gameface” Lee and Warren Shaw are back to wrap up the year. And fittingly, the past week was pretty much the same as it was all 2014: loss after loss after loss with some trade talk thrown in. We'll get a different perspective this week. Two stalwarts of the Celtics-blogosphere, Mark Vandeusen and Mike Dyer of CelticsLife will stop by to give their thoughts on what is becoming an increasingly depressing situation. Is there any light at the end of the tunnel for the Celtics or is there a long rebuild ahead? Speaking of dark days for the Boston Celtics: There were none darker than following the deaths of Len Bias and Reggie Lewis and the bad Celtics basketball which ensued. Cal and Warren will talk about Larry H. Russell's debut book, “Fall of the Boston Celtics” -- which is scheduled for release on January 5th. Stay tuned to CLNS Radio or follow @CLNS_LHR on Twitter for updates. Cal and Warren will also go Around the NBA in 5. December 7th -- what better way to kick off the big move to Sunday afternoons for the Celtics Beat podcast than to have our return to Sundays than Larry Bird's birthday. It was another jammed packed week in the world of Boston Celtics basketball. There were downs, such as another catastropic collapse Tuesday night against the Atlanta Hawks, but there were ups as well. Two wins in a row! And oh yeah, didn't Rajon Rondo and Kobe Bryant have breakfast? Larry H. Russell is the host for the show, which promises to be a good one. Two very special guests will be bringing their knowledge and expertise to the show. The first is legendary scribe of all things Los Angeles sports, Mark Heisler. Mark has been covering the Lakers for over 30 years and is currently writing for Forbes. Mark and LHR will discuss Friday night's Lakers-Celtics matchup at the Garden, as well as all things Lakers. Is it really that bad out in Lakerland? Is Jim Buss as bad as they say he is? And what do Lakers fans think of the overall state of the franchise? Really, what lies ahead for the NBA's glamour franchise? Then of course, Paul Pierce returns to Boston as a member of the Washington Wizards. LHR will preview Sunday's big game and give his prediction as well. LHR will also wrap the loaded show up by going Around the NBA in 5. So be sure to download another edition of Celtics Beat. Pre-season coverage of the Boston Celtics and the NBA is underway. Teams are set to open up their training camps this coming week, and the Celtics have their very own media day this coming Monday. Hosts Rich Conte and Larry H. Russell will discuss the media coverage and fan interest regarding the Celtics. And who better to talk to in this subject than the Boston Globe's Chad Finn. Chad has been covering the Boston sports media landscape since 2004 and Chad will take his shot at gauging the media coverage and fan interest for the 2015 Boston Celtics. Rich and LHR finish the show up by going Around the NBA in 5. So tune into Celtics Beat this Saturday afternoon, September 27th 2014. Or download the show on iTunes or Stitcher.
The NBA season is now rapidly approaching, and the questions are beginning to arise? Who's staying and who's going for the Boston Celtics? Hosts Jared Weiss and Larry H. Russell will break it all down on this week's episode of Celtics Beat. Jared and LHR will be joined by Jared's partner on the Garden Report and Comcast Sports Net New England's own Jimmy Toscano. Jimmy will join J. Weiss and LHR to break down the seemingly broken down roster of the 2015 Boston Celtics. Is the starting center position Tyler Zeller's to lose? Should we make of anything that Brandon Bass' house is on the market? Do the non-guaranteed contract guys like Chris Babb and Chris Johnson have any chance? When, not if, will Marcus Thornton be traded? And, oh yeah, what about that Rajon Rondo guy? And there's still plenty more to talk about. That's why J. Weiss and LHR will go Around the NBA in 5 So tune into Celtics Beat this Saturday afternoon, September 21st 2014. Or download the show on iTunes or Stitcher.
The 2013-14 may not have been the most exciting season for the Boston Celtics, but it certainly was over at Celtics Beat on CLNS Radio. In just a few short months, Celtics Beat launched a mobile app, developed its own channels on iTunes and Stitcher, and became the highest rated Celtics podcast on the web. As a small token appreciation to the loyal audience that made this happen - CLNS Radio is proud to produce a “Best of Celtics Beat Show” for the 2013-14 season. Consider it an official closing of the book of this past NBA season as we gear up for 2014-15. Up first will be Jeff Goodman's maiden voyage on Celtics Beat. Goodman's first appearance came back on December 14th, 2013 -- and his future predictions and assessments are startingly accurate. Next will be a discussion at the halfway point of the NBA season. Ty Ray sat down with longtime NBA veteran and current ESPN broadcaster Jon Barry over All Star weekend. And lastly will be one of Larry H. Russell's interviews with Brooklyn Nets and NCAA on CBS voice Ian Eagle. Tune in this Saturday at 2 PM ET/11 AM PT to Celtics Beat. Or download us on iTunes or Stitcher On Demand.
We may be in the midst of the NBA's doldrum season, but Celtics Beat on CLNS Radio is still giving you plenty of Boston Celtics and NBA talk. Hosts Rich Conte and Larry H. Russell will have the privilege to talk to the President of the Boston Celtics, Rich Gotham. Rich took over the post in April of 2007 and the organization has seen a tremendous amount of success both on and off the court in these past seven plus years. Rich will stop by to talk about the new changes to the TD Garden this fall, the new alternate logo, and oh yeah, the team itself. What should fans expect from the 2015 edition of the Boston Celtics and the franchise going forward? Are the Celtics in the right hands with Wyc Grousbeck and his ownership group alongside Danny Ainge and Coach Brad Stevens? Rich will discuss this and much more on this very special edition of Celtics Beat. And despite the slow months of the basketball season - there's still plenty to discuss in the world of professional basketball. Team USA is off and running, but all everyone seems to be talking about is LeBron James. Like you'd expect anything else. On this week's episode, Rich and LHR will dive into LeBron's new low carb diet which has seemingly been the cause for his substantial weight loss over this summer. And of course, Rich and LHR go Around the NBA in 5. So tune into yet another edition Celtics Beat; this time on a new platform. Same time as always, 2 PM ET/11 AM PT. Or catch us OnDemand on iTunes or Stitcher. Powered by CLNS Radio.

The fireworks show for the Boston Celtics has been canceled. Therefore, feel free to join the candle lighting over at Celtics Beat. Larry H. Russell may not have a co-pilot for this week's show. But the business class section is full. Ian Eagle, voice of the Brooklyn Nets on the YES Network, as well as CBS Sports, joins LHR to talk about what's going on in Brooklyn. What's the deal with the former Celtics Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett? Is KG definitely coming back? Why did Pierce leave? And what the heck happened with Jason Kidd? And hey, should the Celtics expect anything from Marcus Thornton? Speaking of fireworks - it seems the only fireworks there's been has been between Celtics blogosphere members and ESPN's Jeff Goodman. Recently, Jeff has been very critical of Rajon Rondo and his game and some fans and members of the media haven't been too keen to Jeff's analysis. Is it warranted? Jeff appeared on Celtics Beat last December and his recent comments have only reinforced what he said on CLNS a few months ago. Jeff will have the floor to talk Rondo, Marcus Smart, Evan Turner, and what other rumors he's been hearing regarding the Boston Celtics. So tune into yet another edition of Celtics Beat this Saturday July 26th at 2 PM ET/11 AM PT exclusively on CLNS Radio.
The off-season for the Boston Celtics is warming up with the weather. As we get closer to the draft, the Kevin Love question remains unanswered. Are the Golden State Warriors now the favorites? Hosts Jared Weiss and Nick Gelso break it all down, along with the coming NBA Draft. One potential destination for Kevin Love is Phoenix. Armed with draft picks and a good team as is, the Suns are a major player for Love's services. Larry H. Russell spoke with Phoenix Suns color commentator about the Suns chances of landing the Minnesota power forward. Larry and Eddie also discussed the Suns' future, the NBA Finals, LeBron James, and Eddie's new book, “You Big Dummy: An Athlete's Simple Guide to a Successful Career.” Eddie's book is available at his website, http://eddiejohnson8.com, Amazon, and your local book stores. Eddie was a 17-year NBA veteran and is most noted for hitting one of the most famous playoff buzzer beaters during the 1990s Jared and Nick also discuss the state of the Celtics, Kevin Love, and the draft with NESN's Ben Watanabe. Ben has been covering the Celtics for four seasons and should have all the bases covered. Tune in this Saturday to Celtics Beat on CLNS Radio at 2 PM ET/11 AM PT.
The best Boston Celtics podcast you'll find anywhere is still going strong. The team may continue to struggle, although that win over Miami on Wednesday was nice, but Celtics Beat is not. Celtics Beat is packed once again for 60 minutes with hosts Rich Conte and Larry H. Russell. LHR had a chat with Randy Auerbach earlier, and suffice to say - like her father Red, she's got a few things on her mind and she's not afraid to voice her opinions. LeBron James? Kobe Bryant? The Los Angeles Lakers? Phil Jackson to the New York Knicks? What are her thoughts on those entities? And how is she handling this Celtics season, and what are her feelings on the future outlook of the franchise? LHR will discuss all of this with Randy. There's more: Jay King of Mass Live will hop on to discuss how the team has been handling all these losses since the calendar flipped to the New Year. They may be saying all the right things, but ... And it'd be interesting to find out what Rajon Rondo really feels about now as well as his future in Boston. Lastly, Rich and LHR go Around the NBA in 5. Tune in this Saturday at 2 PM ET/11 AM PT to Celtics Beat. Heard exclusively on CLNS Radio.
20 games to go for the Boston Celtics. Can't wait, can you? Neither can hosts Ty Ray and Larry H. Russell. Ty and LHR will talk about LHR's most recent column featured on CLNS Radio: Would the Boston Celtics be better off not winning the lottery? Should they be bold this summer and field a competitive team ASAP? Ty and LHR discuss. LHR will have an extended conversation with NBA TV's Brent Barry. Brent was the 1996 NBA Slam Dunk Champion, a 14 year NBA veteran, and a two time champion with the San Antonio Spurs. Brent currently serves as a studio analyst for NBA TV's NBA Gametime and he dropped by talk about some suggestions he'd make to new NBA commissioner Adam Silver, tanking in the NBA, the MVP race, LeBron James' place in history, and of course -- the Celtics. March 1st is finally here. The light is at the end of the tunnel. Spring is just around the corner, as is the end of one of the tougher Boston Celtics seasons for fans to endure in recent memory.
