“The simple believe everything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.” — Proverbs 14:15In an age where scams are becoming more sophisticated by the day, Scripture reminds us that discernment isn't optional—it's essential. As believers, protecting the resources God has entrusted to us is more than a practical concern—it's an act of stewardship. Here's how you can guard your finances with wisdom, not fear.Scams Are Everywhere—But So Is WisdomFraudsters use every channel available: phone calls, text messages, emails, and even impersonations of people you trust. But as followers of Christ, we're not called to panic. We're called to walk in wisdom (Ephesians 5:15). That begins with slowing down and thinking critically.Pause before you respond. Scammers rely on urgency. If someone pressures you to act immediately—whether claiming your account is locked or your money is at risk—take a step back. Hang up. Verify the source independently. Urgency is often a red flag. Avoid untraceable payments. No legitimate organization will ask for payment via wire transfer or gift cards. These are the preferred tools of scammers because they're nearly impossible to recover.Practical Steps for Digital ProtectionFinancial stewardship now includes digital awareness. Here are practical ways to protect yourself and your family:Use credit cards, not debit cards, for online purchases. Credit cards usually come with stronger fraud protection. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on all your financial accounts. Even if a scammer gets your password, they can't access your account without a second form of verification. Don't reuse passwords. Use a secure password manager, such as Bitwarden or NordPass, to create and store strong, unique passwords. Set up account alerts. Most banks allow you to monitor activity in real-time, giving you a heads-up if something unusual occurs. Freeze your credit. It's free to do and offers one of the best defenses against identity theft. You can always unfreeze it temporarily when needed. Avoid public Wi-Fi for financial transactions. Wait until you're on a secure network or at home to check your bank accounts or make purchases. Limit what you share on social media. Personal details, such as birthdays or family names, can be used to guess passwords or security questions. Adjust your privacy settings and post wisely. Shred sensitive documents before discarding them. Even in the digital age, identity thieves still dig through trash. Don't click on unfamiliar links, even if they appear to come from someone you know. When in doubt, contact the person or organization directly for clarification.Stewarding Wisdom in CommunityScammers often target the vulnerable, particularly older adults and teenagers. So make this a shared effort. Discuss online fraud with your family. Equip them with knowledge. If you receive a letter or email about identity protection following a data breach, verify it by contacting the company directly, rather than through the provided link or number.Financial faithfulness today includes digital vigilance. But there's no need for fear. By taking these simple steps, you can walk confidently, knowing you're stewarding God's resources with care.A Tool for Wise Stewardship: The FaithFi AppLooking for a practical way to manage your money with wisdom and peace of mind? Let's unpack six of the top retirement misconceptions, from whether it's okay to splurge in retirement, to the necessity of paying off your mortgage before you retire, and the real risks that retirees face beyond just a stock market crash. With a focus on helping family stewards make smart decisions for a secure financial future, I share practical advice, real-life scenarios, and encouragement to help you confidently prepare for and enjoy your retirement years. If you want to separate fact from fiction and build a retirement plan that truly fits your life and goals, then this episode is for you. Outline of This Episode [04:45] Debunking common myths. [09:43] Donate now for tax benefits and immediate impact. [10:54] Spending in retirement is encouraged to enjoy life and create memories, rather than hoarding savings. [17:34] Diversified portfolios mitigate financial risk during market downturns. [20:12] Stay vigilant against fraud by protecting your personal information. How Rethinking Retirement Myths Can Help You Build Wealth, Live Generously, and Enjoy a Fulfilling Retirement Retirement is often framed as the finish line in your financial journey, but the path leading up to and through that milestone is cluttered with well-intentioned advice, social media sound bites, and downright misleading myths. As Scott Wellens, certified financial planner and host of the Best in Wealth podcast, points out in episode 260, it's time for successful family stewards to challenge conventional wisdom and make decisions grounded in reality, not rumors. Let's unpack and expand on six of the most common retirement myths, using Scott's insights to guide your way toward a smarter, more satisfying retirement. Myth #1: “It's Not Okay To Do a Big Splurge” Many savers believe that a single splurge in retirement, a long-awaited RV, a dream vacation, or a lavish family gathering, could derail their entire retirement plan. If you've saved diligently and want to use a portion for a one-time purchase, the impact on your annual withdrawal can be minimal. For those following the “4% rule," buying a $50,000 RV from a $3 million portfolio reduces sustainable annual withdrawals by only about $2,000, a small sacrifice for a lifelong dream. Retirement is about enjoying the fruits of your labor. With proper planning and a clear understanding of your cash flows, strategic splurges are not only possible but can enrich your retirement experience. Myth #2: “It's Best to Leave Money to Charity After Death” It's noble to want to support causes after you're gone, but waiting to give can rob you of witnessing the impact your generosity brings. Giving while alive has both tangible and intangible benefits: not only do you receive immediate tax deductions and may reduce potential estate taxes, but you also get a front-row seat to the good your money is doing. A thoughtful plan lets you balance living well and giving generously today, maximizing both legacy and personal fulfillment. Myth #3: “You Should Spend Less in...

✅ Why most dads get generosity completely wrong (and how to flip the script) ✅ Fun tactics to teach young kids the joy of giving (the $20 tip story will blow your mind!) ✅ The simple 4-pillar framework that works at any income level ✅ How money lies to our families about security, control, and happiness SUMMARY Money whispers lies to our kids every single day—promising security, control, and happiness it can never deliver. In this powerful episode, Todd Harper shares how his son went from declaring "I'm going to be filthy rich and never give a dollar away" at 15 to sacrificially giving a third of his salary before his death at 26. You'll discover why most dads approach generosity as an "ought to" instead of a "get to," practical ways to make giving fun for young kids, and Todd's simple four-pillar framework that works regardless of your income level. Takeaways The switch from "ought to" to "get to" changes everything about generosity—and kids can smell obligation from a mile away Once someone tastes the joy of giving, they never go back; Todd has never met a "former generous person" Simple tactics like leaving a $20 tip on a $3 check and watching through the window create unforgettable generosity moments for kids The four pillars of stewardship: Work diligently, give generously, save responsibly, live contentedly Money lies to us about security, control, happiness, and affirmation—contentment isn't tied to financial realities Taking kids to serve special needs children or experiencing international poverty shatters entitlement and builds gratitude The 1% challenge: increase your giving by 1% each year and watch God's faithfulness compound over decades Guest: Todd Harper is a passionate advocate for biblical generosity and the heart behind Generous Giving, where he's spent 25 years helping families discover the joy of open-handed living. Married to his college sweetheart for 37 years, Todd is a father of eight kids (five biological, three through marriage) and is about to become a grandfather. After losing his eldest son Davis seven and a half years ago, Todd has gained a deeper perspective on eternal values and the importance of living with heaven in view. Through Generous Giving, he's worked with families across the wealth spectrum, helping them experience the life-changing shift from obligation-based giving to joy-filled generosity. Step into a message of hope and renewal with our Easter 2025 sermon at Mosaic Church. Pastor B opens by honoring the sacrificial hearts of our worship team and the congregation's commitment, setting a tone of gratitude and unity. From there, he anchors us in Romans 8:31-39, declaring that nothing in heaven or on earth can separate us from Christ's unwavering love. You'll hear how early believers faced Nero's persecution with courage, and you'll find fresh strength for your own trials today.Pastor B then shares his journey alongside Paul's transformation—from opposing the church to becoming its greatest advocate—reminding us that redemption isn't just ancient history but a living reality. As we reflect on suffering, victory, and the promise that we are “more than conquerors,” you'll be invited into a prayer of renewal: receive Christ's love afresh, bring your burdens before Him, and step forward in faith. This episode will lift your spirit, deepen your trust in God's faithfulness, and inspire you to live in the freedom Easter brings.— If this message stirs your heart, share it with someone who needs to know they are never alone in Christ's love.Support the showPastor Broderick Santiago | MOSAIC CHURCHDaily Live Prayer: @MosaicMableton Facebook PageGet Connected or Learn More: bit.ly/mosaicconnection Live Generously: https://wearemosaicchurch.org/give/ www.wearemosaicchurch.orgSundays 10amWednesdays 7pmDaily Online Prayer 7am (M-F)Social Media/ YouTube: @mosaicmabletonbit.ly/mosaicprayer
Welcome to “Empowered for a Purpose” with Pastor B—an episode designed to ignite your faith and deepen your connection with Christ through the living message of Acts. Join us as we uncover how genuine community, the simplicity of baptism, and the power of the Spirit combine to transform ordinary lives into testimonies of grace.Pastor B begins by reminding us that baptism is accessible to everyone—no special attire or elaborate ceremony required. It's a step of faith wrapped in simplicity, yet marked by eternal significance. From there, we celebrate victories both large and small: Andrew Omosu's soccer milestones become a springboard for understanding how our personal journeys weave into the life of the church family.Next, Pastor B illuminates the biblical meaning of the number 40—a time of cleansing, preparation, and rebirth. Drawing on stories from Moses's desert sojourn to Jesus's time in the wilderness, we see how seasons of challenge prepare us to embrace God's best for our lives.Turning to the Book of Acts, we honor Theophilus and all early believers who carried forward Jesus's final commission: to proclaim the gospel boldly. Pastor B challenges us to live this calling in our day—to speak of Christ with confidence and to extend his love without hesitation. In a moving firsthand account, Pastor B shares how an ordinary flight became the setting for an extraordinary witness. An impromptu conversation with a pilot led to a heartfelt invitation to faith—and a new brother in Christ. This story underscores that every moment holds the potential for God to work through us.We close with a stirring appeal: whether you've never made a public commitment or you're seeking renewal, now is the time to step forward. Embrace the Spirit's power, commit your life fully to Jesus, and watch how he transforms your story.“Empowered for a Purpose” isn't just a message—it's an active call to live out your faith with courage and joy. Welcome to “Empowered to Discover Community”, where Mosaic Church invites you to discover the life-changing purpose God has placed within you. In this sermon, Pastor B challenges you to identify your “why” and align your passions with the mission Christ has given us—to impact both our neighborhood and the nations. You'll hear how our church's core values aren't just words on a page, but guiding principles that drive every act of service and every heart that gathers here.Throughout the episode, Pastor B brings you up to speed on what's happening in our community—from the Men's Gathering on May 22nd to the joy of marching in the Mableton Day parade—showing how faith comes alive when we serve together with generosity. Then, we turn to Acts chapter 2, where the Holy Spirit falls on ordinary people and empowers them to speak boldly in many tongues. As you listen, you'll feel the same Spirit urging you to step out in faith, to join in real fellowship, and to offer your gifts—time, talent, and treasure—for the sake of the gospel.Drawing on Peter's sermon and the early church's example of koinonia, Pastor B calls you to a renewed commitment: to live in devoted community, to give wholeheartedly, and to lean into the Spirit's power for greater works. If you long for fresh vision and renewed passion, this episode will uplift your spirit and equip you to take bold steps in your faith. YOU - The Master Entrepreneur - A Guide to True Greatness with Stan Hustad
Please give me seven minutes to introduce you to a remarkable idea and to a remarkable entrepreneur who through many years of entrepreneurial living and coaching others in the ways to financial success can now help you discover some of the secrets of true success and powerful living. And now I asked STOSH the robot to do a complementary comment section on the program and this is what he came up with Where Service Meets Success: The Power of Living Generously A Personal Invitation from Stan Hostad Greetings friends, My name is Stan Hustad, and I'd like to personally share with you a remarkable new venture that is bold, beautiful, and—most importantly—needed. I've spent years as a business performance coach and international broadcaster, but recently I've had the privilege of joining something that touches both the heart and the mind. It's a new service and learning initiative called SteveLear.org, inspired by the life and mission of my friend, Steve Lear. Steve is a financial entrepreneur and activist, but more than that, he is a man deeply committed to the practice of generosity. Not as a charitable sideline, but as a powerful way of life. This isn't a church or a school. It's not a tech company. And yet, it feels like a blend of all three—carrying the wisdom of spiritual traditions, the curiosity of education, and the agility of modern innovation. So what exactly is SteveLear.org? It's a new kind of organization for a new kind of world. It exists to serve those asking life's most urgent questions—about purpose, calling, and what it truly means to live well. Three Core Pathways Let me briefly outline three foundational areas where this organization is making a difference: 1. Career & Business Development Whether you're just starting out or starting over, we help people find their strengths, sharpen their instincts, and develop real business and life skills. We believe in helping you create not just a living, but a life that matters. Think of it as entrepreneurial thinking—with a soul. 2. Leadership That Serves True leadership isn't about ego or titles. It's about service, humility, and listening well. SteveLear.org promotes a model of leadership that's people-focused and value-driven. We're not trying to build stars—we're trying to build communities that care. 3. The Power of Generosity This is the secret sauce. Generosity isn't just a feel-good concept—it's a superpower. By giving your time, your wisdom, your resources, you don't lose—you grow. And so does everyone around you. Generosity multiplies impact. Key Takeaways Here are a few thoughts to carry with you: • Life is not a waiting game—it's a building project. • Leadership is not a position—it's a practice of service. • You don't need to have much to give much. • Creating your own career path isn't selfish—it may be sacred. • A generous spirit can transform your business, your life, and even your destiny. A Final Thought—And a Call to Action Maybe you are the one. The one who lights the spark, who starts the good movement, who shows others a new way of living and giving. You don't need permission to begin—but you do need a path. That's what we're offering at SteveLear.org. Not a formula. A friendship. A journey. If you're tired of waiting for change—and maybe ready to be the change—then I invite you: Join us. Learn. Serve. Give. Grow. Welcome to where service meets success. With gratitude, Stan Hustad
In our last lesson we talked about overflowing in contentment. Discontentment leads to all kinds of problems in this life. Not only does it lead to problems in the present, it can also draw you away from the pain and pierce you with many sorrows (6:10). RESTORE: Live Generously & Be Blessed - Pastor Shawn Winters by Walnut Hill Comm. Church
The A-Life means giving our treasures to God. You can't live life abundantly if you're not learning to live generously. Jesus talked about money more than any other subject. He said that where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. He knew about the idolatry of money that has gripped people across human history. The problem is not with having money, it's with your money having control over you! Worldly treasure is temporal, but heavenly treasure is eternal. The eternal souls of men and women are heaven's treasure. People are what heaven treasures. The way you break free from idolatry and captivity to money is by giving generously to kingdom priorities. How do you lay up treasure in heaven? By investing your energy, opportunities, abilities, and money for the things that last eternally. When you begin to treasure what God treasures, you are laying up treasure in heaven. You can't take your money with you, but you can send it on ahead. When you live generously and give your money for kingdom priorities, you turn your dollars into destinies. Your treasure doesn't follow your heart. Your heart follows your treasure. You naturally begin to love what you give to. You begin to value that which you serve. 4 principles for giving and living generously: 1.) God should get our first and best. 2.) God gets our first because He is the owner of all that we have. 3.) Giving our first and best demands faith. It should feel risky. 4.) When we bring God our first and best, He will take care of the rest. Jesus will one day reward us not for what we had, but for what we gave. When we choose to give our treasures to God and live generously, our hearts will eventually follow. ● Connect with us on Social Media ↴ Facebook: / abundantlifels Instagram: / abundantlifels ● Connect with Pastor Phil ↴ Facebook: / philhopperkc Instagram: / philhopper_kc Web: https://livingproof.co/resources/books/ ● Learn more about the A-Life Discipleship Journey: https://alife.livingproof.co/ More information on our sermons: https://livingproof.co/sermons/ Do you want to see your life changed by Jesus? Weekend sermon experience at Westover Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas.
In today's episode, we explore John 4, where we encounter the transformative meeting between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well. This sacred dialogue illuminates significant themes such as overcoming cultural barriers, satisfying our deep spiritual thirst, and engaging in transformative conversations—all of which guide us toward understanding the "Living Water" that Jesus graciously offers. Our journey begins with a thoughtful reflection on the necessity of genuine spiritual hydration, drawing a compelling parallel to the perils of physical dehydration in the harsh deserts of Egypt. This vivid illustration sets the stage for a deeper study of the scripture, inviting us to contemplate our own spiritual needs in contrast to the fleeting desires of the world. As we continue our exploration of the text, the discussion centers on Jesus's deliberate choice to travel through Samaria—an intentional act of breaking socio-cultural norms to reach a woman marginalized by her society. The sermon carefully examines the powerful interaction at Jacob's well, where Jesus extends the gift of "living water," a symbol of eternal life and the infinite satisfaction found only in Him.The episode then shifts its focus to highlight Jesus's compassionate outreach, challenging societal judgments and exemplifying unwavering acceptance. In this inspiring reinterpretation, the Samaritan woman emerges not as an outcast, but as a testament to the transformative power of encountering Christ. The climax of the sermon reveals a pivotal moment when Jesus openly declares His messianic identity to the Samaritan woman—a revelation that sparks both personal and communal transformation, evolving from a private conversation into a village-wide proclamation of faith. In conclusion, the sermon invites us to reflect upon our own spiritual journeys, encouraging us to examine the “wells” we frequent in our quest for fulfillment. Listeners are inspired to relinquish temporary satisfactions and wholeheartedly embrace the living water offered by Jesus, thereby carrying forward a message of redemption and eternal hope.Support the showPastor Broderick Santiago | MOSAIC CHURCHDaily Live Prayer: @MosaicMableton Facebook PageGet Connected or Learn More: bit.ly/mosaicconnection Live Generously: https://wearemosaicchurch.org/give/ www.wearemosaicchurch.orgSundays 10amWednesdays 7pmDaily Online Prayer 7am (M-F)Social Media/ YouTube: @mosaicmabletonbit.ly/mosaicprayerMosaic Church
Welcome to today's episode of our podcast, where we explore the profound interaction between Jesus and Nicodemus—a story that forces us to reflect on what it truly means to be "born again." This journey through the scriptures challenges both believers and seekers to examine their inner spiritual life and commitment to God, regardless of societal status or religious background. As we move forward, we discuss various biblical insights into what it means to look up to Jesus for salvation, inspired by the Old Testament account of Moses and the bronze snake. This symbolically points to Jesus' sacrifice, emphasizing that true healing and salvation come only from Him. The narrative urges all of us to lift our eyes to Christ for the redemption and hope we desperately need.We confront the role of light in exposing darkness within our lives, encouraging listeners to embrace transparency and allow God's light to penetrate and transform our darkest places. This is essential for anyone seeking to grow closer to God and live out a truly transformed life.Join us as we break down these life-changing truths, helping each listener to see where they stand with God and how they can experience the true rebirth that comes from believing in Jesus Christ.**Chapters and Timestamps:**- **00:00:00** - Introduction- **00:00:42** - Nicodemus- **00:09:20** - Looking Up to Jesus- **00:16:00** - Are We Really Born Again?- **00:19:49** - The Light Exposes Our Evil Ways- **00:22:19** - Examination of Myself at the Cross- **00:28:32** - ConclusionWe hope this episode stirs your heart and mind, drawing you closer to the transformative power of faith in Jesus Christ. Student loan forgiveness is much in the news these days. It's on. It's off. It's on again, maybe. What's the lesson here? The lesson is this: Avoiding student loan debt is much easier than getting out of it. It just takes discipline. We'll talk about that with Dr. Art Rainer today. Dr. Art Rainer is the founder of the Institute for Christian Financial Health and Christian Money Solutions. He is a regular contributor here at Faith & Finance and the author of “The Money Challenge for Teens: Prepare for College, Run from Debt, and Live Generously.” A Biblical Foundation for College FinancesWhen it comes to preparing for college, it's important to keep Proverbs 22:7 in mind: “The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.” This verse serves as a crucial reminder that borrowing money, especially for education, can lead to long-term financial burdens. It's easy to accumulate tens of thousands of dollars in student debt that could take decades to repay.Four Strategies to Minimize College DebtIn The Money Challenge for Teens, Dr. Art Rainer outlines four key strategies to help students minimize, or even avoid, college debt:Start Saving Now: The sooner you begin saving for college, the less you'll need to borrow.Take College-Level or AP Courses Now: These can reduce the number of credits you need to take in college, lowering your overall tuition costs.Explore Scholarships and Grants: There's a wealth of financial aid available, but you need to seek it out and apply diligently.Be Willing to Work While in School: Many students work part-time jobs to help cover tuition and reduce the need for loans. While these strategies require effort and discipline, they're far easier than paying back $30,000 or $40,000 in student loans after graduation.Avoiding Costly Misconceptions About CollegeDr. Art Rainer also shares a list of common misconceptions that can lead to unnecessary student debt. Understanding and avoiding these pitfalls can make the college journey much smoother:Misconception #1: Attending a Costly School Guarantees a Better Job: Higher tuition doesn't always translate to higher salaries. Employers care about your degree, not how much you paid for it.Misconception #2: You Need the Whole “College Experience”: Some students work during college to offset tuition costs, which can prevent long-term debt.Misconception #3: It's Okay to Stretch Out College: While there's some flexibility, extending your degree program can increase costs and the risk of not completing your degree.Misconception #4: You Don't Need to Know What You're Signing: Educate yourself on student loans before signing anything. Understand the commitment and explore alternatives.Misconception #5: Everything Will Take Care of Itself: Student loans are difficult to escape, even surviving bankruptcy. It's crucial to manage your debt and avoid complacency.Misconception #6: There's No Other Option: While college costs are high, there are always options like scholarships, grants, and community college. Explore every avenue before taking on debt.Putting in the Hard Work NowIt's far better to put in the hard work now—saving, applying for scholarships, and working while in school—than to be burdened with student debt later. By being proactive and informed, students can avoid the financial pitfalls that so many others face. For more insights and resources from Dr. Art Rainer, visit his website at ChristianMoneySolutions.com. We're told the most secure thing we can have is silver or gold, but our true stability comes from strengthening our faith in Jesus. In this sermon, Pastor Allen Jackson discusses the importance of generosity. He also talks about the reality of God's faithful provision as we increasingly learn to trust Him with our resources. God calls us to plant seeds—being generous with our time, resources, and attention—as an expression of hope and confidence in His ability to provide. We will see a harvest as we do so. It's not about the amount we give, but cultivating a heart that's willing to give sacrificially.
