It's not every day you get to interview a legend in his field. For some reason I am lucky and and got to do just that. Today we have Berry Tramel of The Oklahoman. Berry is a lifelong Oklahoman and a wealth of knowledge on Sooner history. He has been with The Oklahoman since 1991 and before that he was with The Norman Transcript. Berry has seen the highs and lows of Sooner football. The good years and the handful of bad ones. So, who would be better to talk to about this storied rivalry between these historical programs? Today we get the pleasure of interviewing him over the history of the Nebraska/Oklahoma rivalry. The good games along with the bad. We get to hear the importance of this series to the Sooner faithful and also what to expect from this years team. Berry also gives us his top moments and even goes into the fabled “Sooner Magic” that drove us Husker fans nuts. The Big 12 has completed a quarter century of competition. In those 25 years, four teams departed, two were added and eight original members have stuck it out. It hasn't always been a one-for-all spirit but it has survived. On today's SportsBeat KC, two columnists that have covered the conference since its inception answer the question: How well as the league served the schools they cover? Kirk Bohls has written for The Austin American-Statesman since 1973. Berry Tramel has been with The Oklahoman since 1991 and was at the Norman Transcript for more than decade before that. The Big 12 has been terrific for Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and others, including West Virginia. And you'll hear from Mountaineers radio play-by-play man Tony Caridi. The Golden Nugget in Vegas has released a crazy spread for the OU-Houston game (9:25). Grant was scared for Jalen Redmond after reading a recent story from the Norman Transcript (17:50). Grant's got thoughts on a handful of players, while Lee provides evidence backing up the futility of Wichita area football (25:50). Grant has done a hilarious amount of research on OU's Week 2 opponent South Dakota and he may know more about the Coyotes than their actual fans (42:50). Lee thinks Chip Kelly is the most interesting part about UCLA and the guys try to figure out if he's a top 15 college head coach? Lee ranks his top coaches and divides most of them into tiers (51:10). Grant thinks UCLA could be a little feisty and he's not happy that Lee is totally overlooking the Bruins (1:04:50).
