Everyone keeps asking, “How do you do it all and still make money?”Here's the truth: I don't believe in balance. I believe in systems. In this episode, I'm spilling the tea on the backend that actually runs my business—the automations, workflows, and client systems that keep everything moving while I'm baking cookies, raising my baby, and living my Soft x Savage dream life. Most coaches won't tell you this part because it's not “sexy” enough for Instagram. But these are the exact systems I built *two years before I ever met Edy*… because I knew the woman I was becoming—a wife, a mom, and a CEO—deserved a business that could hold her life, not consume it.If you've ever looked at women who seem to “do it all” and wondered how, this episode gives you the full breakdown:- The backend systems that automate my income and client delivery- How I structure my calendar for energy management (not time management)- The non-negotiables I protect as a wife and mom- Why I built all of this before I ever “needed” itThis is the episode you listen to when you're done glamorizing hustle and ready to build something that lasts.

Then, we're checking back in on the world of AI and how it's transforming classrooms (for better or worse). Is AI just the latest boogeyman for academic dishonesty, or are there ways it can actually be beneficial for students and teachers? Some educators are saving time on admin tasks and lesson planning, and even see a future where AI can serve as a tutor for students. But not everyone's convinced it's a good thing. Who remembers written exams in blue books? Some teachers are going old-school with testing  to combat students cheating on their work with AI. We also hear directly from educators across the country about how AI is changing their classrooms. Some see it as a creative tool, others as a crutch that risks dulling students' critical thinking. Are schools ready for this shift? Per usual, we came prepared with our latest recommendations: Screw Chrome, switch to DuckDuckGo (Andrew), look at perfume sampler kits for an affordable way to find your new fragrance (Laura), and a reminder that it's vax season and time to get your updated flu and covid shots! (Pam) And in this week's After Dark, we're declaring our midlife crises. What's in the Millennial Midlife Crisis Starter Pack™ for our subscribers? And we need to know if Botox qualifies as a midlife crisis, or just self-care. Asking for a friend.

In this episode of the Anglotopia podcast, host Jonathan Thomas welcomes Amanda Graves, a British expat who shares her unique experiences of living in America since 1985. Amanda discusses her family's distinguished background, her mother's recent MBE award, and the cultural differences she has navigated as an expat. From the royal experience of receiving an MBE to the nuances of food and tea culture, Amanda provides insights into the British-American cultural divide. She reflects on her journey from Massachusetts to Texas, the evolution of dinner parties to potlucks, and the complexities of tea terminology. This conversation offers a rich exploration of identity, culture, and the expat experience. Links Spilling the Tea NEW COLUMN! Spilling the Tea: The Great US/UK Fruitcake Divide Legacy: One family, a cup of tea, and the company that took on the world J. Lyons and Co History Lewis's of Liverpool department store history Order of the British Empire Takeaways Amanda's mother received an MBE for her charitable work. Amanda comes from a distinguished British commercial family. The royal investiture ceremony was a proud moment for Amanda. Cultural differences between British and American life are significant. The transition from Massachusetts to Texas presented new challenges. Food culture in America differs greatly from British traditions. Potluck culture is prevalent in America compared to formal dinner parties. Tea culture in the UK is complex and often misunderstood by Americans. Amanda's experience on Jeopardy was both surreal and rewarding. The importance of community and neighborliness in American culture. Sound Bites On American vs. British confidence culture: "One of the things that really impressed me was how self-confident Americans were and are because I had come from the UK where they have a phrase... called tall poppy syndrome. So tall poppy syndrome means don't stick your head up too high because you don't want to bring attention to yourself." On the family tea empire: "The name Lyons was borrowed from a cousin because the family was already successful in another business and they didn't want to use their names to go into this new venture... So they borrowed the name of one of their cousins, which was Joe Lyons." On British boarding school reality: "I went away at the age of 10. My brother was sent away to prep school... at eight to a boarding school, which he said he would not do to his children. And so his children didn't go to boarding school until they were 13." On American fruitcake disappointment: "It's because this is the only fruitcake that you know. You don't know the stuff that's full of alcohol and really delicious and takes three months to sort of mature before you even bake the thing." On her Nigella Lawson connection: "Nigella's probably a second or third cousin... my father and her mother were very close growing up... I did get invited to her 21st birthday party, which I sadly couldn't go to because I just have my wisdom teeth out." On meeting Princess Anne: "She asked my mother about something that she had done in the 1970s and my mother went 'I didn't even remember I'd done that. How did you know about that?' And she said 'well you've covered a lot of ground.'" On the dinner party culture shift: "I came over here and I started inviting my husband's colleagues over to dinner and they would... always phone and ask, what can I bring? And I'd say, don't bring anything... I didn't understand it." On American neighborliness shock: "The fact that neighbours came over and knocked on my door. I mean, we just didn't do that in England... I lived for a year in a part of Bristol. We never met our neighbors. It just would never occurred to us to go and say hello to them." On tea terminology confusion: "If somebody sends me an invitation and says, come for high tea at four o'clock... I know that's not what that means. It doesn't mean I'm going to be having beans on toast. It means they're going to be serving afternoon tea." On Jeopardy success rates: "I looked up the acceptance rate and it's 0.2% that actually get accepted to be on the show. So I'm very proud that I made it. Sadly, I didn't win, but it was an incredible experience." Tea, a popular new app that purports to “make dating safer for women,” has (deservedly) received a lot of backlash in recent weeks. In this episode, I argue that Tea – and apps like it – have the potential to sever a dating market that is already only hanging on by a thread. Rather than dissuading bad actors, these apps are more likely to terrify good ones. When the risk-reward profile of dating women becomes too unfavorable, only the desperate and those with nothing to lose will remain. This is why men will walk away. Noam and Jen did an extra long episode, because it was an extra long week. We start by discussing the tea on Tea, the vibe-coded app that was long on 2018 nostalgia but short on information security. Aside from the irony of repeating past mistakes, we discuss the shortfalls of relying on LLMs to do your heavy lifting for you, especially if you don't have the knowledge needed to check the outcome. We move on to discussing the Macrons suing Candace Owens over the flagrantly insane (but also defamatory) things she has said about Brigitte. While the Macrons are completely within their rights to sue Owens and are justified in doing so, it also gives her more material for her content mill. So what to do? We also take a brief detour into the Mehdi Hasan vs MAGA trainwreck that demonstrated how siloing can rot your sense of reality.  Gaza is back in the news again, over an impending famine, and whose fault is it anyway? Also, the NYT published a piece citing one anonymous IDF source saying that they have no proof that Hamas has stolen humanitarian aid regularly, which is all some folks needed to blame Israel. Does it make sense? No, but when has that ever mattered.  The Trump-Epstein story keeps getting further off the rails, this week with the news that Bondi informed Trump he is mentioned in the DOJ's investigation files. And maybe Ghislaine Maxwell is getting a deal to testify that Trump did nothing wrong? Or maybe Obama will be arrested?  Finally, we get to the movie part of the pod because we saw two movies this week, Eddington and Fantastic Four - First Steps. There is a lot to unpack with Eddington, but not as much with Fantastic Four.

Theft, true crime, and unbelievably expensive antiques… the lobby of the Hollywood Tower Hotel holds more incredible stories than are evident on the surface. Drop in with us on this episode of Distory with Kate & Kirk as we check into the lobby of the derelict Hollywood Tower Hotel to decipher the history, secrets, and stories hidden within the design. In this episode, we focus solely on the left front corner of the room: the mahjong table and tea cart. While it seems, at first glance, pretty straightforward, there is a large amount of hidden storytelling in this small area alone. Kate spills the tea of a subtle Twilight Zone connection before unfolding the newspaper on the lower level of the tea cart to share a bone-chilling true crime story. Kirk then gives us some history of mahjong and explains why this game exists in the lobby. After offering some explanation about why players today are confused by the game being played, we discuss fake cobwebs, peer inside of a porcelain pot, and pause just before turning to the Concierge desk because we sadly run out of time. Are the five love languages the secret to a successful relationship? Or do they just enforce outdated relationship norms? In this episode, we dive into how love languages can be helpful, not as a guideline to express love, but as a lens to spot and respond to gaps in connection. We also share our experiences from going to couple's counseling with our ex-husbands, where we first learned about these five love languages, and how we use them in our relationship today. If you've ever felt boxed in by a quiz result or confused about what you need from your partner, this episode will help you feel seen and give you tools to go deeper.    Some key takeaways from this episode include: Love languages aren't fixed. Regular check-ins, reflection, or therapy can help keep open communication about what each of you needs in a particular season. You don't have to speak just one. Love languages work best when they're used as a mix - not a label - to help your partner feel seen and supported in different seasons. Patriarchal structures still show up in our relationships, but we have the power to teach our kids (and ourselves) more equitable ways to love and live. Conversations about these structures can feel uncomfortable, but they're crucial for fostering happier, healthier relationships.    MUD/WTR is a coffee alternative consisting of 100% organic cacao, ayurvedic herbs and functional mushrooms.
