Any chance a few of the forwards might get on board the Moose caboose? Time to Restump Podcast the emotional roller-coaster Friday night ride, resulting in a loss to the powerful premiership favourite Pies. Collingwood are deservedly premiership favourites so there is some level of merit in Freo's Friday night performance. However, we just can't do honourable losses any more. While the 14-point margin suggests a closely fought contest, the reality is Freo should have handed out a six-goal belting. How are we so talented in finding unique ways of avoiding victory! What are we playing dodgeball with winning? I mean it is almost impossible to lose a game of football when you clock up near on 30 more inside 50s than your opponents. You hate to think it but… only our beloved Dockers could manage that. The issues aren't exclusive to one area or positional group pf players but, while the forwards didn't exactly help themselves, the delivery to them was atrocious. We strangely went in with a host of talls and it seemingly inspired the mids to sit the ball on their heads! If I didn't know any better, I'd have thought we subbed Blake Acres back in for a game. It literally got to a point where you thought Uber could have delivered the ball more efficiently!I mean we won the centre clearances 21 to 7 which is an absolute smashing! We tripled their centre clearances; we doubled their inside 50s and we yet somehow find just one more scoring shot and lose by a couple of goals. Don't tell me that wouldn't stump the Myth Busters crew!Unable to get the balance right between fast and painfully frustratingly slow play was never going to end well and, again, while the forwards did little to help themselves out, often all going up for the same ball, imagine trying to lead when you don't know what the mids and ball carriers are going to do. In fact, I don't even know if the mids and ball carriers new what they were going to do.It shouldn't have to be applauded but it was comforting to see that, while not at levels we saw against the Crows, the energy and intent was there. However, the turnovers wiped us out and the inability at times to hit simple kicks and handballs when under little to no pressure, continued to destroy us. Some have suggested the performance was subpar given the Pies rested Pendlebury, De‘Goey, Maynard and Mihocek. But let's not forget Jamie Elliot, Steele Sidebottom, Jack Crisp, Will Hoskin-Elliot and Jeremy Howe were all there. Add Dan Houston, Tim Membrey and Darcy Moore and they pretty much had eight 200 gamers. We're not throwing the towel in because we're only a game and % off the final eight pace. But at the moment, in our current form or lack thereof, a game and % feels like we're a fair way back. AFL logic suggests JL needs a miracle from here to keep his gig going into 2026, but does laying the entirety of the blame on him give the players a free pass? Could a few do with an incentivizing stint back at Peel? Couldn't hurt to send an actual message. We've prattled on here long enough and we're getting nowhere! If you're still a little baffled about Friday night's performance, you're not on your Pat Malone. So, in your Freo fog and your cloud of confusion, bang on your tumultuous togs and join us in the purple pod pool of perplexity. Together we'll all battle through the bewilderment in search of some balance.Send us a textSupport the show
In this week's programme Fr Brendan Quinlivan speaks with Sr. Brenda Dolphin who is part of the leadership team of Mercy Ireland. She reflects on some of the challenges facing Irish Religious Congregations today and as postulator of the cause of Venerable Catherine McAuley, she updates us on the progress of the cause in the Vatican. Friday. Pat Malone from Clarecastle reflects with us on Candlemas, the feast of the Presentation of the Lord.
Chief Mike McManus relives his historic 34 year career in Pararescue among his many assignments to include Japan, New York and Alaska. Chief McManus was a part of 7 jump missions while stationed in Japan, he was instrumental in standing up Pararescue's Military Freefall program, and he influenced many future Chief's careers with his mentorship. Joining Mike on this episode was his wife Deb, Jack Brehm, Pat Malone, and Karl Grugal.
Don't hate us Skip, we still love you. We can't all be great at everything. Time to Restump Podcast the seemingly season crushing loss to the Western Lobradors. Well that one hurt. We're still a mathematical chance of making the eight but the percentages are diminishing at a rapid rate. We probably can't afford another loss, or maybe one at the most, but even that doesn't guarantee us a spot, given the logjam. For two and a half quarters the game looked ours as we matched and surpassed the dog's pressure. But in the blink of an eye, they got a lucky decision, they took the ascendency and literally piled on 3 goals in a minute. We were left Memphis Raines like – Gone in sixty seconds. Our subdued start to the game hurt us again and while we had switched on and closed the gap by the end of the first quarter, it was energy sapping damage that had been done. Poor execution of skills, an inability to deal with frenetic pressure and at times horrendous decision making could account for the loss. Does the Chief's “Alex Pearce Kick Deterrent System” need to be implemented? $5,000 fine every time he kicks the ball. That's a little too harsh but…. it's difficult to have confidence when he has ball in hand and doesn't take a handball option. Did Bevo and his coaching crew out coach us at pivotal points in the game? Could Jackson have come into the ruck in that last quarter when things got dizzy quickly? Were there pivotal times in the game when we had Erasmus and Johnson in the middle? Caleb Serong was again off the scale and while finals might not be coming his way in September, his fair share of Browlow votes will be. He might not be amongst the votes but Sonny Walters is in goal galore territory. With 25 goals on the board and another eight games to go, at 32 years of age Evergreen Sonny is in career best form range. Liam Henry made it two on the bounce. Sure, he butchered a couple but he wasn't on his Pat Malone and his productive performance far outweighed his errors. His growth is a 2023 positive, especially as we know, or we should know, he's just 21 years of age and far from the finished product. And you can't speak about 2023 positives without the great Jye Amiss. You have to continue to remind yourself…. he's a teenager. He's on track to kick 40+ goals and he's a teenager! We're not going to dwell too much on wouldas, shouldas and couldas. We got provided another presentation explaining exactly where we are as a club and a list. The upside is that the window is only just starting to open. So, join us for these 50 minutes as we pull apart the purple performance. There's blame, there're regret, there is sorrow, acceptance and then rejuvenation. Have the bright lights of season 2023 been turned off or have they just been dimmed? Support the show
Talk about eyes on the pick one prize! Resting their equal leading goal scorer in a team struggling to score? The Hawkers aren't leaving anything to chance! Time to Restump Podcast preview Saturday night's 2013 grand final repeat. (Yeah.. I know that's overdoing it) Does it sound like the Hawks' priorities aren't necessarily on securing the draft pick hindering 4 points? Freo, on the other hand, are we done? Are we alive? Are we currently treading water in purgatory contemplating the glass half full, half empty positions?Nat Fyfe is back and that surely has to give everyone on and off field a lift. Starting as the substitute seems a strange decision but we're not privy to the information behind the move.Great to see Josh Treacy return after a couple of solid hit outs and ten marks last week at Peel while Freddy re-joins the experimental forward line as well after recovering from injury quicker than expected.Sad to see Sammy Sturt has been sent back to the twos. Admittedly he had a shocker last Saturday but he wasn't on his Pat Malone and his previous two games showed encouraging signs. For the second time in a few weeks, Will Brodie also found the axe above his neck. No doubt he'll go back and dominate Peel's midfield but he probably has to bring a bit more to the senior side when he next gets an opportunity.Despite the resting of players, the Hawks that take the field won't be resting up. They're a plucky young talented group and they won't make it easy for us. James Sicily is one of the best going around down back, Mitch Lewis is going to be a gun forward, Dylan Moore always dines out on us and they've done pretty well picking up forward Fergus Green as a mature age recruit. It will be nice to see Lloyd “Braun” Meek back in WA and you can imagine he'll want to put his best foot forward…. or his best knee in a Darcy or Jackson kidney. Good contest this week with Darcy and Jackson (JackArce) taking on Ned Reeves and Meek. You'd be an optimist to think we're still alive in season 2023 as far as finals are concerned but stranger things have apparently happened. However, really in this game we just need to see some system, some structure, some composure and some cohesiveness. The worrying aspect here is that this is a game in which there is little to gain but plenty to lose. That alone creates pressure and pressure does funny things. We've got no first round pick to worry about so lets just go hell for leather and win whatever we can win. And on that note, let's get into it. Unless you've got sock drawers need tidying, grass growing or paint drying that needs to be watched. Relax, pull on your Captain's special no panicking bucket hat, bung this nonsense in your ears and join us for 45 minutes that you'll never be able to get back! Support the show
Round one is old news. It's time to bounce into round two and Restump Podcast Freo's Saturday evening Kangas clash. We really need to pinch the four points. Yes, it hurt last week but the reaction was massively overblown. It almost makes you wonder if there is an outrage race? Who can be most the outlandish? Anyway, we said its old news so we move on.It is Griff's first home coming but, as interesting as that will be, we have bigger fish to fry… like not being zero and two. Josh Treacy wasn't on his Pat Malone in having a ‘Barry Crocker' last week but it seems he drew the short straw. Given sub vest stalwart Bailey Banfield has been moved into the twenty-two at Treacy's expense, was the move for structural reasons or has the Cyclone taken one for the team?Josh Treacy, Jye Amiss, Matt Johnson and Sonny Walters are all in the mix for Banfield's vest. Power of deduction suggests, Treacy and Amiss don't have the versatility required for the role. Surely we're not debuting Johnson under vest conditions? That leaves Sonny Walters and again, I am not sure how I feel about that. After being over confident and catastrophically wrong last week, we're trying to be gun-shy, or at least a little more reserved about our chances against North. But its too difficult… there is no way this Fremantle team doesn't respond in the most emphatic of ways. North won't be a push over. They have a formidable midfield and obviously a wonderful coach, but we have their measure across the board. We do… don't we? Please tell us we do! You should never wish any precious time of your life away! Now that been said, we're looking to offload as many of the tick tocks between now and early Saturday evening as we can because we can't wait. So, if you're in a similar mode, there's 40 minutes of nonsensical purple stuff to throw away here! Cobwebs have been blown to smithereens; our season restarts Saturday. Support the show

Staffing stress? You're not on your Pat Malone! Many of you have recently brought on your first staff members, and I hear you. YOU. ARE. STRESSED. Building a team can be a truly exciting and rewarding time in any business, but it often comes with traumatic growth on the part of the business owner. This isn't because you're a bad leader or a bad business owner … You're a great “technician” (skilled clinician, in the case of most of my clients), with no training on how to recruit and retain staff or how to build a great team culture. You're so great at what you do, that you've built a wonderful reputation and are now swamped with work. That's why you've recruited staff to help out. Trouble is, you can't sustain your usual work load AND manage your team. Something's gotta give! And that triggers fear. Big time. Clients mean dollars. Fewer clients means fewer dollars. How will you afford to reduce your client load so you can support your team? What if I told you that most of my business coaching clients move from this state of fear and end up in a place where they not only see fewer clients themselves, but their practices generate MORE revenue to support business sustainability? What if I also told you that a mark of a successful business is when the business owner is paid a salary but is not the primary source of revenue? These are things we're not taught how to do at uni. I remember my early days of practice ownership, bumbling about in the dark, figuring it all out by trial and error (or more accurately, error and error!). I've gone from traumatic growth to consolidated stability to strategic growth over the years. It's no accident that my clinic's team culture was recognised as a finalist in the Allied Health Awards last year. Or that we've been awarded contracts worth over a million dollars. Team culture, team stability, and team ambassadors all feed into business success and reduce burnout risk for you and your team … And it's all achievable, without having to resort to dark magic! I'm running some training on exactly these concepts … And here's where you can find out all about it: https://bit.ly/NurtureCourseInfo Remember, we all learn how to do this, hopefully you'll avoid some of the mistakes I made early on! Much love, Tess x

The episode begins with a discussion of how Pat went from graduating Yale Law School to becoming one of the nation's leading medical malpractice plaintiff's trial lawyers. Pat talks about how he started as a newspaper reporter covering malpractice trials, and was drawn to this field even before attending law school. Pat talks about what drew him to medical malpractice cases, why these cases are hard for plaintiffs to win and strategies he has used for success, including lessons he has applied from his groundbreaking work co-authored with Rick Friedman, Rules of the Road. (https://www.trialguides.com/products/rules-of-the-road-trade). Pat later adapted the "rules" approach to medical malpractice cases in his book, Winning Medical Malpractice Cases with the Rules of the Road Technique (https://www.trialguides.com/products/winning-medical-malpractice-cases ).Pat discusses how his own personal journey raising an autistic son brought him face to face with the medical establishment and helped him to develop his own sense of empathy--a trait which has helped him relate to clients with similar struggles. Pat discussed his latest book, The Fearless Cross Examiner (https://www.trialguides.com/products/the-fearless-cross-examiner). He explains why some of the commonly-taught techniques for cross examination are wrong and how he has developed some better approaches. He explores both the technical and human aspects of cross examination.About Patrick MalonePatrick Malone is a son of the Midwest. Pat Malone on promoting Washington DC at MLB Expansion meeting - "I just took my whole script and I chucked it . . . I gave my pitch from a passionate fan's point of view of why Washington should have baseball back in DC. When the meeting was over, George Steinbrenner, he comes up to me and says, 'Pat, I got to tell you something. When you took that script and you whipped it in the trash, I looked around the table, and everybody is now watching what you were saying and they were listening to what you were saying.'" Pat Malone, Mr. Baseball, Washington DC A Ockershausen: This is Andy Ockershausen and this is Our Town. We have a special guest today that I attribute the idea, and you can live with it, audience, or not. This man is more responsible than anybody I know to bring baseball back to Washington. When I first met this young man, he was a Sergeant in the United States Air Force. I said, "He ought to be defending us instead of promoting baseball," but there he was. That's Pat Malone. Pat, welcome to Our Town. The Early Years Pat Malone: Andy, thank you so much. I want to tell you something. I'm just overjoyed to be here, really, because this is a part of Our Town which you and I both as Washingtonians- you're a fourth-generation Washingtonian. I'm a second-generation Washingtonian. This is just beautiful. I'm really happy to be here with you. A Ockershausen: Pat, it's about Our Town and you're such a big part of Our Town and I know that. I'll get back to that Air Force uniform first and last. Pat, you're from Punta Gorda, Florida? Pat Malone: Well, I'm from here. I was born at Georgetown University Hospital, so I'm a second-generation Washingtonian. A Ockershausen: What were you doing in Florida? Pat Malone: Dad said you couldn't play golf in the winter, so we moved to Florida. A Ockershausen: Was he a government employee at the time? Pat Malone: No, Dad was a golf pro. A Ockershausen: I didn't know that. Pat Malone: Yeah, sure. He was up at Burning Tree with Max Elbin. He was at Norbeck with Henry Girardi. A Ockershausen: He had all the good clubs then. Pat Malone: Absolutely. Yeah, yeah. A Ockershausen: I used to play a lot at clubs and never, like Nat Allbright. You remember Nat of course? Pat Malone: Yeah, sure. A Ockershausen: Your dad went to Florida and you went with him and you were born in Florida? Pat Malone: No, I was born in DC. A Ockershausen: And moved to Punta Gorda. Pat Malone: Yup. I actually ... A Ockershausen: Went to high school in Sarasota. Pat Malone: Sarasota and in Punta Gorda, yup. A Ockershausen: You graduated and you said ... Why did you come back? Your dad came back to Washington? Pat Malone: No. Actually what happened was I had a graduation present. It was either a 1970 Chevy Impala, a convertible cherried-out, or a one-way ticket back to Washington DC. I looked up and I saw that one-way ticket. I wanted to come home. A Ockershausen: You got back to Our Town. Pat Malone: I came back to Our Town. A Ockershausen: Thank God for that. I'm sort of a, what do you call it? A weirdo. I never left Our Town. Every place I've ever been, I always thought Washington was a lot better than any place I could be. Pat Malone: I'll tell you, Andy, it's when you leave Our Town you really appreciate Our Town. A Ockershausen: You know it and I know it, Pat. Then you went to school at American University. Pat Malone: Yup. Went to AU. Go Eagles. A Ockershausen: You're a marketing manager. It got you in the Air Force. Military Service - United States Air Force Pat Malone: I joined the Air Force. I was actually at Greendale Golf Course in Fairfax County, in the Alexandria part of Fairfax County. I joined the Air Force in 1978 and retired in 1998. A Ockershausen: You got 20 years. Pat Malone: 20 years. Yup. A Ockershausen: You enlisted. Pat Malone: I enlisted.
Episode 5 of the first season of the Get the Knaak podcast - I chat with old military buddy Pat Malone.
