What does it mean to love oneself? Why do so many of us struggle to see ourselves as worthy and enough? Who benefits from our lack of self-love? As we prepare to enter a new year, let's consider changing the track we play in our minds. What if we looked in the mirror and celebrated ourselves, flaws and all? How would it feel to rest when we are tired and eat when we are hungry without guilt or shame? What would it be like to wake up with a heart full of love for ourselves instead of reproach? We have the power to shift our energy by choosing to approve of ourselves, by choosing to be kind rather than cruel. As we walk through the woods on this chilly Christmas afternoon, start to imagine how radical self-love will look for you in 2025. It's time to become a worthy witch! We all have to clean our spaces, and it's annoying, but is it possible to make it something you love to do? Our guest seems to think so! This week Raj and Noah welcome back Patric Richardson, author of the book House Love, to teach us best practices for keeping our places tidy, the best cadence for how often to dust and vacuum, and how to transform our mundane tasks into our little joys.Want to add to the conversation, or think you might be doing something wrong? Before there was a TV show and before there was a book, Patric Richardson loved laundry. As a child, Richardson loved clothes, both wearing them and their care. He studied merchandising apparel and textiles at the University of Kentucky and then left for an incredible career in luxury fashion at McAlpins, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom. Richardson opened his designer vintage store, Mona Williams, in 2013, and embarked on the next step of his journey. Richardson started sharing his expertise at his much-talked-about and often sold-out Laundry Camps, where he teaches people new and better ways to care for all of their apparel and home textiles. These camps sparked a revolution, prompting a book, Laundry Love, now in its fourth printing, and a television show, The Laundry Guy, on HGTV and Discovery+. Most recently, Richardson published his second book, House Love. Richardson has been featured in both local and national media-including Live with Kelly and Ryan, The Washington Post, Good Morning L.A., the Wall Street Journal, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, The New York Times, just to name a few. In this episode you will learn: How to reframe doing laundry and cleaning into an act of love to infuse moments of joy. The biggest issues Patric sees with people doing laundry, (hint: it will save you money). Why you only ever need to use the quick cycle in warm water to wash all of your clothes. How using laundry bags will eliminate the need to ever bring your clothes to the dry cleaners. How to use oxygen bleach to keep your clothes smelling great, maintain their stretch and clean your house. How to remove stubborn stains and odors from your clothes. This was such a fun and practical conversation, and we believe it will transform your daily life. If you didn't grow up doing your own laundry, once you headed out on your own, you probably just figured things out on the fly, hoped for the best, and have been doing things the same way ever since. But, while you may be getting the job done okay, you also might be making some mistakes that are costing you time, money, and cleaner clothes. In this episode from the Art of Manliness department of essential life skills, we'll cover all the things you should have learned as a young man but never did, and how to do your laundry effectively. Our guide is Patric Richardson, aka the “Laundry Evangelist,” a laundry expert who runs how-to-do-laundry camps, hosts the television show The Laundry Guy, and is the author of Laundry Love. Today on the show, Patric shares the one cycle and water temperature you should use for all of your clothes, exactly how much detergent you should be using (which is a lot less than you think), how often you should wash your clothes (which is less often than you think), why you shouldn't ever use dryer sheets (and what to throw in your dryer instead), how regardless of what the tag says, you can wash anything at home (including a wool suit), how to easily get rid of stains (including yellow pit stains), and many more tips that will save you time, money, and hassle in doing your laundry.Resources Related to the PodcastAoM Article: How to Do LaundryAoM Article: The Simplifying Step Missing From Your Laundry RoutineAoM Article: How Many Times You Can Wear Your Clothes Between WashesAoM Article: How to Get the Stink Out of Synthetic Workout ShirtsAoM Article: How to Remove and Prevent Yellow Armpit StainsAoM Article: A Guide to Shrinking Levi's 501 Shrink-to-Fit JeansConnect With Patric RichardsonPatric's website Patric on YouTube

Patric Richardson is a longtime lover of beautiful textiles, developing as a child both an appreciation for wonderful clothes and amazing, service-focused department stores like Parson's and Stone & Thomas in eastern Kentucky and West Virginia. He was voted best dressed in eighth grade and again in high school, and his obsession with clothes continued. In college, there was only one choice, a degree in fashion merchandising, apparel and textiles. His time at the University of Kentucky allowed Patric to hone his skills with textiles, becoming an expert in their use and care. While attending UK, he worked at the legendary store McAlpin's and then transitioned to Embrys, the finest furrier in the South. It was then that Patric developed his outstanding customer service skills.Eventually, he took positions at Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom, where he sold beautiful clothes in exceptional environments, worked with high-fashion leaders, and learned the significance of the runway. These opportunities gave life to his Mall of America store and destination, Mona Williams, and his legions of loyal customers.Along the way, his knowledge and dedication have given Patric the opportunity to write a case study for a nationally recognized collegiate textbook, The Meaning of Dress; to participate in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts Italian style exhibit; to create his Laundry Camps, sharing his love of clothing care and laundry expertise; and much more. Now he plans a series of books—on laundry care, home care, entertaining, and holidays.Purchase Patric's book Laundry Love!Purchase The Proudest Color!Visit Patric's website: https://laundryevangelist.com/Connect with Charnaie online in the following places:Blog: http://hereweeread.comPersonal Website: charnaiegordon.comPodcast Email Address: hereweereadpodcast@gmail.comFind Charnaie on the following social media platforms under the username @hereweeread: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, PinterestFeel free to share this podcast on your social media platforms to help spread the word to others.
