Chariot Ltd (AIM:CHAR, OTC:OIGLF) chief financial officer Julian Maurice-Williams takes Proactive's Stephen Gunnion through two major announcements from the company's renewable division. The first announcement covers the financing closure of Etana Energy, Chariot's electricity trading joint venture in South Africa. The financing totals $175 million, with backing from institutions like Norfund and Standard Bank, Africa's biggest bank. Maurice-Williams explained, “Etana is fully funded, and this strengthens its balance sheet, making it bankable and creditworthy.” The second update is a power purchase agreement for a 75-megawatt solar project in South Africa, with electricity to be traded through Etana. This project, set for construction in Q2, was enabled by the guarantee financing secured by Chariot. Maurice-Williams emphasised that these developments mark “two big steps forward for our renewable division towards first revenues.” Chariot expects further renewable projects to reach financial close soon, expanding both its trading and generation revenue streams. The company also continues advancing its oil and gas projects in Morocco and other African markets, with updates expected in the near future. This is a sort of "marker" podcast -- my 400th. It's kind of my summing up on the subject of human identity and the origin of human satisfaction. The cast cites a recent interview (https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/im-a-new-kind-of-christian-jordan-peterson-on-faith-family-and-the-future-of-the-right/) with Jordan Peterson, and do note that the interviewer is almost as interesting as the interviewee I also quote John Zahl's distillation sermon from December 29th (https://events.locallive.tv/events/148984) -- which happened to be Mrs. Zahl's and my 51st Anniversary. The cast finishes with a little James Hilton (i.e., one's current fave) and... a 1978 cover of Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs. You'll see. I want you to think about the origins of your own psychic self. From where does "self-hood" come? Did you create yours? What do you want for yourself more than anything else in the world? What would you do anything to acquire? Oh, and is satisfaction in life about loving or being loved? When have you been happiest? (When have you been happy at all?) "All You Need Is (Be-)Love(dness)". Nothing else really matters -- or at least at the start of life (I mean infancy), and also at the end of (mortal) life (I mean death). Oh, and also at every felt point of need you have ever had to face. At the end of the day, a baby, a "disheartened" person (to quote Jackie Wilson from '68), and a dying person need one thing: Love From Outside. And may that Love ever "STAY" (J. Browne, '78). Podcast 400 is dedicated to Mary Cappleman Zahl.

What does it mean to love oneself? Why do so many of us struggle to see ourselves as worthy and enough? Who benefits from our lack of self-love? As we prepare to enter a new year, let's consider changing the track we play in our minds. What if we looked in the mirror and celebrated ourselves, flaws and all? How would it feel to rest when we are tired and eat when we are hungry without guilt or shame? What would it be like to wake up with a heart full of love for ourselves instead of reproach? We have the power to shift our energy by choosing to approve of ourselves, by choosing to be kind rather than cruel. As we walk through the woods on this chilly Christmas afternoon, start to imagine how radical self-love will look for you in 2025. It's time to become a worthy witch! Chariot Ltd (AIM:CHAR, OTC:OIGLF) Chief Financial Officer Julian Maurice-Williams joined Steve Darling from Proactive to shared insights into a transformative financing agreement for Etana Energy, the South African electricity trading platform 49% owned by Chariot. British International Investment (BII) and GuarantCo have announced a $100 million guarantee facility to support Etana's mission of delivering sustainable, cost-effective power solutions by connecting generation projects to industrial and commercial users via South Africa's national grid. The financing includes $50 million from each guarantor and marks the largest energy wheeling framework transaction in South Africa to date. This innovative deal guarantees customer demand, providing renewable energy developers with the revenue certainty needed to advance new projects. The $100 million guarantee facility is expected to unlock an estimated $500 million in renewable energy investments, enabling the development of approximately 500 MW of wind and solar capacity. Maurice-Williams highlighted the deal's potential to catalyze a significant expansion of sustainable energy infrastructure in South Africa, aligning with Chariot's commitment to advancing the global energy transition. #proactiveinvestors #chariotlimited #aim #char #africa #transitionalenergy #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

His first time on the charts was in the late 50's with the song "Little Darlin'," (as The Gladiolas) though the biggest hit from Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, undoubtedly, was STAY. This one also has a nice behind the scenes story, though it's pretty much straight forward with a simple listen. It's the end of a date you don't want to end.

Chariot Ltd (AIM:CHAR, OTC:OIGLF) chief financial officer Julian Maurice-Williams speaks to Thomas Warner from Proactive after the Africa-focused transitional energy group announced it has successfully raised $15 million in a recent institutional fundraising effort. The company is now inviting existing shareholders to participate in an open offer for up to $3 million at the same price as institutions. The funds raised will be directed towards the gas side of the business, specifically for onshore wells in a new concession in Morocco, which Maurice-Williams says he expects to be awarded soon. The rationale for developing these prospects is that the revenues they generate may be able to support the development of the Anchois giant offshore development. Chariot Ltd is actively working on reaching key milestones for its Lixus Project that contains the Anchois discovery. The company has already conducted engineering and design work and describes itself as being in advanced negotiations with partners and potential gas buyers, including the Moroccan state electricity company. Maurice-Williams says in conclusion that the seven wells that company intends to drill over next eighteen months represent seven reasons for investors to be excited by Chariot. #ProactiveInvestors #ChariotLtd #EnergyInvestment #AfricanEnergy #GasProspects #MoroccoGas #LexusProject #OffshoreDiscovery #EnergyIndustry #InvestmentOpportunity #OilandGas #EnergyDevelopment #TransitionalEnergy #FinancialNews #InvestorUpdate #EnergyMarket #NaturalGas #InfrastructureDevelopment #EnergySecurity #RenewableEnergy #InvestmentStrategy #EnergyInvestor #FinancialGrowth #EnergyBusiness #InstitutionalInvestors #OffshoreExploration #EnergyFuture #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

“I'd always been a big fan of the written word, from childhood, in different mediums,” says Maurice Williams. “Whether it be youthful song writing or my undergraduate degree in journalism. There's just beauty in the creation, the alchemy of having nothing and then you have something, about writing.” In this case, the something from nothing is Entergalactic, an animated series about Jabari, a streetwear-clad artist on the cusp of success. The story is based on a location as much as it is a person, inspired by Kid Cudi, along with Williams, Kenya Barris, and Ian Edelman. “If I go all the way back, Maurice and I share this, which is why we make great partners, I think growing up as a TV kid, watching movies with my brother while our parents worked, I think even beyond that, it was growing up in New York City, going to public school and writing a bus and subway at a young age, you realize the greatest characters studies are in your backyard,” says Edelman.  Edelman packed many of these stories in his 2010 series How to Make It in America. The HBO series followed a group of 20-somethings living in New York City, and featured Bryan Greenberg, Lake Bell, Luis Guzmán, and Kid Cudi. “I wanted to tell stories about kids I knew who were leading interesting lives that were not the conventional movie, movie. We had a different way of looking at the world.” Listen to my interview with Kenya Barris in Episode 227 of the podcast. Want more? #743 - Maurice Williams The Maurice Williams Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour! We've got a great interview that was originally conducted for the radio with the one and only Maurice Williams. Born in Lancaster, South Carolina, he's the lead singer of Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs. Paul met Maurice Williams in Savannah, Georgia years ago. It was a chance encounter and it lead to this interview. Maurice Williams is a great songwriter and wrote such classics as “Stay” and “Little Darlin'” The song “Stay” at 1 minute, 36 seconds is the shortest song ever to reach #1 on the Billboat Hot 100 chart in the United States. Did you know that? Now, “Stay” is a song that has had a lot of action through the years. It's been recorded by the Hollies, Jackson Browne, the Four Seasons. Of course it was in that movie “Dirty Dancing.”  And “Little Darlin'” was covered by The Diamonds, The Monkees, and it appeared on the final Elvis Presley album. Hey, since you're staying, may you can help support the show. It's easy. Just go to thepaulleslie.com/support We thank you and we don't take you for granted. Not one bit. Now, it's time to present an interview with a most lovely man. Maurice Williams.

Each week on Locked On LSU we break down the Recruit of the Week – one high school football player that LSU is high on or players that are high on LSU. On today's edition of the Recruit of the Week, we break down Brian Kelly's first get in the 2024 class: 4-star safety Maurice Williams out of Pearland, Texas. When asked about why he committed to LSU, Williams cites his relationships with Kelly, Matt House, and the rest of the coaching staff. He mentions the Cajun food and community that he felt on campus. But overall, he mentions the reputation that LSU football is DBU, or defensive back university. How will the new coaching staff work to maintain the reputation that LSU football has built up from Tyrann Mathieu to Tre'Davious White to Derek Stingley Jr.? Plus, the NBA Draft is tonight and there are three names from LSU basketball that are in the draft. While it may be a long shot for Darius Days or Shareef O'Neal to get taken in the first round, Tari Eason is not. Several NBA mock drafts have Eason going in the middle of the first round and a general consensus has him going 17th to the Houston Rockets. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!

What the Riff?!?
1977 - December: Jackson Browne “Running On Empty”

What the Riff?!?

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 25, 2022 41:46

Running on Empty was the fifth album by Jackson Browne.  The album revolves around the theme of life on the road, and it is a live album, but with a couple of twists.  First, none of these tracks had previously appeared on a Jackson Browne studio album.  Second, while some of the songs were recorded on stage during concerts, others were recorded backstage, or in hotel rooms, or on the tour bus.  This gives the album more of a concept feel than would be present for a typical "live" album.Browne got his start as a songwriter as a teenager, and joined the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band shortly after high school.  His early songs were recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Nico, Steve Noonan, Gregg Allman, Joan Baez, Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles, The Byrds, and others.  He was a backing musician for Nico in 1967 and wrote three of the songs on her debut album, He co-wrote "Take It Easy," the first hit by the Eagles. This album is considered one of the most accessible albums Browne created, and is his most successful album.  It reached number 3 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart in 1978, and stayed on the charts for 65 weeks.  It was nominated for Album of the Year in 1979.  The title track would become a staple of classic rock. Running on EmptyThe title track and first single from the album was recorded in concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.  It hit number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.  The song was inspired by Browne's driving to the studio to make "The Pretender."  It was only a few blocks from his house to the studio, and Browne wouldn't bother to fill up, so he was always literally running on empty.Nothing But TimeThis track is about the boredom of life on the road.  It was written and recorded on the tour bus, a Continental Silver Eagle.  You can hear the bus's engine running in the background, downshifting and accelerating during the bridge.  Browne and Howard Burke (his tour manager) wrote this one.  Russ Kunkel is on percussion, playing snare, hi-hat, and "cardboard box with foot pedal."The Load OutThis is a well-known track about the folks that put the show together and the fans that come to hear the concert.  "We've got to drive all night and do the show in Chicago - or Detroit, I don't know.  We do so many shows in a row, and these towns all look the same."  It portrays a decidedly unglamorous picture of touring life, with the one exception of the time on the stage.StayAlmost always played in series on rock stations with “The Load Out,” this cover of Maurice Williams and the Zodiac's song from 1960 replaces concerns about mom and dad letting the girl stay out with concerns that the roadies, producers, and union letting the band play one more song. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Night Fever by the Bee Gees (from the motion picture "Saturday Night Fever")The movie that would make John Travolta a household name and disco the music genre of choice across the nation was released in December 1977. STAFF PICKS:Mind Bender by StillwaterWayne leads off with a band whose name was used for a rock band in the movie "Almost Famous."  This vocoder-laced southern rock piece with a shuffle beat hit the Billboard Hot 100 at number 46.  The song is about a talking guitar called "Mindbender.:  Stillwater is from Warner Robins, Georgia, and plays an annual show in Macon at Christmas time. She's Not There by SantanaRob brings us a cover of the Zombie's hit from the 60's.  While the Zombie's version made it to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, Carlos Santana gives it a Latin fusion twist that would hit number 27 on the charts.  Greg Walker is the vocalist on this single, with Santana of course on guitar.Help Is On Its Way by the Little River BandBrian's staff pick is from the Australian band known for their harmonies and easy groove.  This is the lead single from their third album, Diamantina Cocktail.  The song has a positive feel, and peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100.Baby Come Back by PlayerBruce's staff pick was written by band members Peter Beckett (lead vocals and guitar) and J.C. Crowley (piano and backing vocals)  after two of the band members had broken up with their girl friends.  This is off their self-titled debut album.  The band would be less successful when they moved from a soul oriented sound to a more rock-oriented sound on their future albums. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:The Dialogue from the motion picture "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"The distinctive 5-note jingle marked the start of a conversation with aliens in this science fiction movie that debuted in December 1977.

Guests include Kevin Gunn, MMR's Creative Director who found the long lost tape and David Dye who hosted Bruce in the Rittenhouse Square studio that Sunday afternoon in 1974.   > From deep in the MMaRchives, comes a long-lost recording of Bruce Springsteen, live on the air at WMMR studios at 19th & Walnut on Rittenhouse Square… playing songs of his choosing and filling in the MMR audience of his next moves. Bruce was in between the release of his 2nd and 3rd albums, doing a college tour with a setlist that included songs from his debut Greetings From Asbury Park as well as the follow up, The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle.  It would be a year before the world exploded and Born to Run propelled Bruce and the band to unimagined stardom. David Dye, WXPN's former World Café host, and in the small ‘MMR studio that day remembers, “ I am pretty sure this was a weekend shift, probably Saturday afternoon.  The only way I ever set up having Bruce on the air was to ask him at a gig.” Bruce spent an hour + there playing a wide variety of songs.  Dye recalls, “Believe it or not Bruce could be shy, as you may hear.  That's why I suggested the guest DJ idea- figuring that would be easier.  It was.  Particularly got better when he discovered the oldies compilations and that led to him playing “Stay” by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs.” The 10 inch reel to reel recording was found by current MMR creative services director, Kevin Gunn, an avowed Bruce-head.  He gently badgered our engineering department to repair an old reel to reel tape machine back to serviceable order to dub the recording from analog tape to digital form and ready it for playback.

The Batman features a star-studded cast including Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Collin Ferrell, Paul Dano, John Turturro, and Andy Serkis. The story plays out like a film-noir crime thriller and that of course is right up my alley. With a 2 hour and 45-minute runtime, there was plenty to talk about. NADA MÁS QUE MÚSICA
Nada más que música - Jackson Browne - Running on empty

NADA MÁS QUE MÚSICA

Play Episode Listen Later May 6, 2021 29:56

De su LP Running on empty, “The Road”. The load out. Jackson Browne. Y mientras tanto… ¡¡¡Buenas Vibraciones!!!

The vocal harmony group tradition, known as Doo Wop, developed in the post-World War II era. It was the most popular form of rhythm and blues music among black teenagers, especially those living in the large urban centers of the eastern coast, in Chicago, and in Detroit. To those of us kids who were color-blind, it was just cool music coming from our transistor radios. That was the beauty of radio. Music wasn’t defined by a color, just by the beat and the mood you felt deep in your soul. Many groups specialized in romantic ballads that appealed to the sexual fantasies of teenagers in the late 1940s and early 1950s. By the mid-1950s, vocal harmony groups had transformed the smooth delivery of ballads into a performance style incorporating the nonsense phrase, “Doo Wop-Doo Wop” as vocalized by the bass singers, who provided rhythmic movement for an a cappella song style. The series looks at the Vietnam War from unique perspectives: those of the women, both military personnel and civilians, who were present during the conflict. The series' cast portrayed US Army doctors and nurses, officers, soldiers, Red Cross volunteers, and civilian personnel (American, French, and Vietnamese). In reality, some 10,000 women served in country. Three Red Cross women, eight Military women and an unknown number of American civilian women died in Vietnam. Many more were wounded. Also, during the Vietnam War, 402 American medics were killed in the service of their country. The show was partly inspired by the book, “Home Before Morning” (The Story of an Army Nurse in Vietnam) [1983] by Lynda Van Devanter (1947-2002). The TV show consisted of a 2-hour Pilot show followed by 61 episodes over four seasons (1988-1991). The focal point was the 510th Evacuation Hospital, referred to as “The Five and Dime” E.V.A.C. hospital. The club at the Five and Dime was called The Jet Set. Diane Keaton and Gary Sinese, each directed episodes. The show’s main theme song was "Reflections" by Diana Ross & the Supremes. Two episodes [Season 3, Episode 19 and Season 3 Episode 22] used "We Gotta Get out of This Place" by Katrina & The Waves with Eric Burdon either as the theme or within the plot. The show’s dedication reads: “To the Vietnam Veterans, especially the women who served, with thanks and respect. China Beach, the TV series, portrayed the cost of the Vietnam War. It helped us heal while remembering the sacrifices of the young women and men who fought there. You will never be forgotten.” Dana Delany (McMurphy) was involved with the Vietnam Woman’s Memorial Project, which built the monument in Washington D.C. next to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Allow me to introduce to you our guest for this episode. A personal friend of mine and former Tone House Coach, Adrian Williams. Adrian is a true New Yorker, and an incredible athlete. From a young age, he had a gift with speed and competed in track. At the age of 36, Adrian completed the 40 yard dash in 4.18 seconds; with video documentation for proof. This is the fastest time posted by anyone in the NFL Combine! (We'll dive into that story) What amazes me with Adrian is this dude has every right to be 'overly confident', if you will. But his entire nature and mindset is to help other people. In fact, he had original ambitions to be a nurse for that very reason...until a career in fitness called his name. For years, he was a coach at Tone House and someone the community very much respects as a person and an athlete. Enjoy this episode as we have a conversation on almost everything. "The firecrackers go all over the place. . .one of those photographers that just drove around, his name was Bill Beall, a nice guy, he took a picture when I was talking to the child, the child was with his mother. His father was in the military and was out of the country." ~Maurice Cullinane Andy Ockershausen: We are delighted, exceptionally delighted, in Our Town to have a special guest that I've known for more years than I hate to admit but he's a special man, Maurice Cullinane, former Chief of Police of the Metropolitan Police Department, who is a native Washingtonian. Maurice Cullinane - Retired, Chief of Police, Metropolitan Police Department Andy Ockershausen: Maurice Cullinane was a Navy veteran, got out of the Navy in 1951 and became a cop or a policeman as we call them now but when he grew up they were cops and they were great and things were different but they really weren't, Cully.Your years in the force saw a lot of changes, a lot of things happen. They were tumultuous in the seventies and I recall people saying this is great, we've settled all the problems now and look what we're facing. 1977 Hanafi Siege Andy Ockershausen: Cully was the first police chief to face the so-called terrorists, Hanafi Muslims, and I don't know what year was that Cully. 77? Maurice Cullinane: 1977. Andy Ockershausen: And they were doing serious, serious threat to our city. Maurice Cullinane: Actually, they came into the B'nai B’rith at ten-thirty in the morning seven gunmen they took a hundred and twenty some hostages there. Andy Ockershausen: At the B’nai B’rith? Maurice Cullinane: At the B’nai B’rith and I went up and was trying to talk to them, find out what that was their complaint and we were just yelling up and down the steps and I got notified several hours later that they took over the Islamic center up on Massachusetts Avenue. There was three gunmen in there and so we went back and we had a command center setup because we were having so many demonstrations and I tried to talk to them and then they took over the district building and that's where shots were fired. A young reporter, his name was Maurice Williams, was killed and… Andy Ockershausen: Was he the only fatality? Maurice Cullinane: He was the only fatality during the whole time but the Marion, who, Marion Barry, who was later then called the mayor for life, he was shot, he was on the council at the time, and he was shot and the bullet hit him in a place that would have killed him but the bullet bounced off of the walls before it hit him and it was spent (Note: It is reported on Wikipedia that "The gunmen also shot D.C. Protective Service Division police officer Mack Cantrell, who died a few days later in the hospital of a heart attack.") A: And he was not a target then it was an accident almost? M: They were just shooting at random it was something, just an unusual situation. Back in 1973 the black Muslims had been attacked up on 16th street and there was a fellow, his name was Hamaas. This wasn't actually his name, he could have changed it legally I don't know, but his name was McGee. He was 54 years old and he had been in the Army and he got discharged for mental instability and he was with the black Muslims. The black Muslims just appeal to a very small number of blacks because they were advocating . . . A: very militant group M: they were extremely militant and he was not so he dropped out of black Muslims to be in just an orthodox Muslim but he did it with the letter that irritated the black Muslims and they came in 1973 to a house that was owned by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and they killed five of his [Hasaam's] children, one of whom was just months old, 2 to 3 months old, and they killed a total of seven people and so the homicide squad came and locked them up. They came from a Mosque up in Philadelphia but it was really a cover for a bunch of criminals and they locked them up and they convicted them and all them went to jail fo...

A multiple BMI award-winning songwriter, Maurice Williams is best known for penning two R&B classics, “Stay,” and “Little Darlin’.” The latter song first appeared on the Excello label in 1957 as recorded by Williams’ own group, The Gladiolas. It was soon covered by The Diamonds, who made it a national #2 hit on both the Billboard pop and R&B charts. Elvis Presley’s “All Shook Up” kept the song from the top spot, though Elvis himself would later record “Little Darlin’” for his 1977 Moody Blue album. Williams’ Gladiolas eventually morphed into Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, who topped the charts with “Stay” in 1960. Though the song is only 97 seconds long, its infectious falsetto harmony hook, “Oh won’t you stay just a little bit longer,” made it an instant doo-wop classic and the record holder for the shortest song to ever hit #1 on the Billboard pop chart.  Other artists have charted with their own Top 20 hit versions, including the Hollies, the Four Seasons, and Jackson Browne. The Zodiacs’ original version became well-known to a new generation with the release of the multi-million selling soundtrack to the film Dirty Dancing in 1987. Following the success of “Stay,” Williams continued to perform with the Zodiacs, scoring charting pop singles such as the self-penned titles, “I Remember” and “Come Along.” His “May I” became a million-selling record for the Zodiacs and a Top 40 single for Bill Deal and the Rhondels in 1969. Williams continues to perform and record, and has been inducted into the Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame, and the South Carolina Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame.
