Have you read Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson—or maybe even the whole series? In this May 2025 Book Club episode, we're diving into the twisty world of Ellingham Academy with Stevie Bell and company. But first, we kick things off with a Bookish Check-In. Ashley's reading Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune (yes, the sequel to The House in the Cerulean Sea), and Jen shares her thoughts on Nnedi Okorafor's Death of the Author. Then we dive into all things Truly Devious—what makes Stevie such a compelling protagonist, how Johnson balances multiple mysteries across timelines, and why this one's a must-read for fans of dark academia and character-driven whodunits. We wrap up with perfect book pairings, plus a few favorite things outside the reading life. Let us know what you thought about this one! This week, even more things coming to the Disneyland Resort for the 70th, a sneak peek into the Walt animatronic, a new character coming to Avengers Campus, bananas are invading Disneyland later this month, fire heroes were honored, new seating was added to New Orleans Square, we talk to Artist Jerrod Maruyama, and more! News: More and more keeps being announced for the 70th Anniversary of Disneyland. A new light, sound, and projection moment will be coming to Carthay Circle and Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure. The moment will be set to the tune “Celebrate Happy,” the theme song for the anniversary. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/guide-to-the-70th-anniversary-at-disneyland-resort/ We have some new details about the Walt Disney animatronic experience coming to the Opera House in July. Various media outlets were invited to the Imagineering campus to see the life-sized concept sculpt, and to learn more about the show. Walt's voice in the show will be his own, with clips of his actual voice were painstakingly assembled from interviews. The animatronic itself is very lifelike. The posture, facial structure, and skin texture are “uncanny” according to MiceChat. – https://www.micechat.com/414430-disneyland-walt-disney-a-magical-life-revealed/ Another character from the Marvel Universe will be dropping by Avengers Campus for a limited time. Red Guardian, who first appeared in Black Widow, and is featured in the new movie Thunderbolts, will be meeting and greeting with guests. You can be sure to find him by checking the Disneyland App. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/meet-the-super-amazing-red-guardian-at-avengers-campus/ If you are going to be in Avengers Campus heading into Cars Land, or the other way around in the near future, be aware that the path between the two by Luigi's is closed. This has been done for construction of a new restroom facility to compliment the new additions to Avengers Campus currently under construction. – https://www.micechat.com/414422-disneyland-news-70th-anniversary-improvements-red-guardian-appearance-store-changes/ May the 4th was this weekend and the Disney Parks Blog shared a recipe from A Galaxy Far, Far Away. The Felucian Falafel and Hummus Garden Spread from Docking Bay 7 may take some planning – with one step taking from 12-18 hours – but is sure to be a tasty treat! – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/disney-eats-exclusive-plant-based-star-wars-day-recipe/ Later this month, a fun team will be visiting the parks. The Savannah Bananas, a baseball team similar to the Harlem Globetrotters, will be at Disneyland on May 28, 2025. Special entertainment moments, and themed food and beverages will be on hand to celebrate. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/savannah-bananas-disneyland-may-28/ On Monday, May 5, there was a Heroes Salute Cavalcade to honor the first responders of the fires back in January. The Heroes ticket also kicked off to coincide with the cavalcade. – https://www.micechat.com/414422-disneyland-news-70th-anniversary-improvements-red-guardian-appearance-store-changes/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHGVwxv9H1E A rather abrupt change has come to New Orleans Square. The Port Royal Curios and Curiosities shop, right next to the Royal Street Veranda, has been changed into a seating area for diners. Since the shop duplicated the merchandise which can be found at Madame Leota's “Somewhere Beyond” shop, the old location was not needed. The decor was not updated much, except to turn it into a jazzy looking speakeasy. Tables and chairs are scattered about for guests to get out of the heat and find a place to eat. – https://www.micechat.com/414422-disneyland-news-70th-anniversary-improvements-red-guardian-appearance-store-changes/ At the Emporium on Main Street, there are a set of windows that are decorated with animated scenes from Disney classics. Some of them have been in rough shape in recent times, but they are currently being refurbished for the 70th. No word on when they will be completed, but work is underway. – https://www.micechat.com/414422-disneyland-news-70th-anniversary-improvements-red-guardian-appearance-store-changes/ SnackChat: 70th Foodie Guide – Disney Eats: Disneyland 70th Celebration Foodie Guide – Disney Parks Blog Discussion Topic: Freelance artist Jerrod Maruyama https://www.instagram.com/jmaruyama/

News: With the upcoming 70th anniversary at Disneyland coming up fast, there has been some work to get the parks in tip-top shape. Last week, Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars Galaxy's Edge had the cannons fixed! This effect has not been working for the last year or more. Rumor online is that it was a programming issue that over the course of the day the movement got out of sync and caused the attraction to stop working. That has been corrected and the cannons appear to be back! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/02/02/we-love-it-when-disney-listens-imagineers-finally-fixed-this-glaring-ride-problem/ There is quite a bit happening elsewhere in the resort as well. Over in Disney California Adventure, Elias & Co. on Buena Vista Street is behind scrim and scaffold, the Cozy Cone Motel in Cars Land is still working on the updates to the main office. The new seating area nearby has also partially gone back behind walls to add what looks like a shade covering to the spot. The Little Mermaid is still open, but getting an extended standby queue. Grizzly River Run is undergoing a major refurbishment, including work on the guard rails and some stonework. – https://www.micechat.com/408639-disneyland-update-end-of-the-line-blasts-from-the-past/ ver in Disneyland, more light poles are covered up around the resort to allow for maintenance. The Disneyland Monorail and Disneyland Railroad are closed until early March to work on new entrance gates for the Downtown Disney station of the Monorail, and the rest of the track replacement for the Disneyland Railroad. The Jolly Holiday and it's a small world are down for extended refurbishments. – https://www.micechat.com/408639-disneyland-update-end-of-the-line-blasts-from-the-past/ This coming weekend is the last chance to hop aboard the Red Car Trolley at Disney California Adventure. February 8th is the last day for the attraction which added a lot of kinetic movement and atmosphere to Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Boulevard. While you won't be able to ride the trolley anymore, one will be parked near the entrance to the park for photos. – https://www.micechat.com/408639-disneyland-update-end-of-the-line-blasts-from-the-past/ Madame Leota's Somewhere Beyond shop, which just opened last month had some flooding issues last week. The heavy rain flowed down the walkway to Bayou Country and right into the front door of the shop. The resort already has plans for work to be done with the path in front of the shop to correct this issue. The shop will remain open during this work, with entrance allowed by the Haunted Mansion exit. – https://www.micechat.com/408639-disneyland-update-end-of-the-line-blasts-from-the-past/ Disneyland After Dark: Sweethearts Nite was hugely popular, but the other After Dark Nites still have tickets available. 90's Nite still has tickets for March 4th, and Star Wars Nite still has all dates available. If you are interested in attending either of these, check out the link in our show notes. – https://www.micechat.com/408639-disneyland-update-end-of-the-line-blasts-from-the-past/ https://disneyland.disney.go.com/admission/events/ A pop-up mini golf experience is coming to the Pixar Place Hotel. The Royal Street Veranda has added Baked Cheesy Biscuits, with an optional side of Cajun Cheese sauce. They are described as Cheeze-Its in biscuit form. The biscuits are made with sharp cheddar and cajun cheese, and are brushed with garlic butter. The sauce is not overly spicy and adds a sharper cheese flavor. The biscuits are $8.99, and the dipping sauce is $1.39. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/01/27/review-id-like-to-thank-the-creator-of-this-new-disney-snack-for-making-me-believe-in-happiness-again/ SnackChat: Flo's V8 Cafe – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/disney-california-adventure/flos-v8-cafe/menus/ Discussion Topic: Disney Islands with Teresa

A new bride may appear in the attic of the mansion. A sneak preview of this new bride may be seen in the Madame Leota shop as a portrait. The new bride is rumored to have a cutting-edge blend of classic and modern effects. MiceChat reports that Imagineers are working on a solution to this issue. The solution could replace some classic areas like the Port Royal shop, Royal Street Veranda quick service window, and the small courtyard between the shops. As sad as it may be to lose these locations, an extended, more themed, indoor queue might be a good thing for New Orleans Square. – https://www.micechat.com/406689-disneyland-update-from-christmakkah-to-construction-swashbuckling-surprises/ With the start of a new year comes new merchandise for that year. - The biggest news this month was the opening of the Donkey Kong Country expansion of Super Nintendo World and Universal Studios Japan. This long awaited expansion opened on December 10th, and has had rave reviews from visitors. While POVs of the Mine Cart Madness coaster, look fun, but not super thrilling, the feedback on the ride has been very positive. Similar to the Mario Kart ride that anchors Super Nintendo World. This is not a thrill attraction, it is a family attraction. The best thing from what I can see from this expansion, is just adding space to Super Nintendo World. - Here in Australia we have had two massive openings in the last month, with both Movie World and Dreamworld adding their new lands, the Wizard of Oz Precicnt and Rivertown. - Starting with Movie World's new precinct dedicated to the Wizard of Oz, it opened on the 20th of December, without a soft opening period, with it's two new coasters: - Kansas Twister: A Vekoma Family Boomerang Racer, twin tracks with a top speed of 58km/h and a 95 cm (37-inch) height requirement - Flight of the Wicked Witch: A Vekoma Suspended Family Coaster, with a top speed of nearly 67km/h and 105 cm (41-inch) height requirement I've seen really mixed reviews of the lands so far. People have been damning for the lack of shade in the outside portion of the land, which is a danger for any Summer opening of a Theme Park land in Australia. They have routinely praised the indoor queue elements of the two rides. The rides themselves haven't been big hits, but I'm going to hold my judgement on them for now. - Over at Dreamworld, we have seen on the 23rd the opening of Rivertown. This new land takes the place of ABC Kids World, that kind of half merged into Kenny and Belinda's Dreamland when Dreamworks IP licencing deal was finished. Amusing that are of the park was originally known as Rivertown, so it's kind of return. Not really though. I'll get to that in a second. The new land brings one new, and one completely refurbished attraction. The new attraction Jungle Rush Vekoma switchback coaster with a low 95 cm (37-inch) height requirement, and high top speed of 80 Kmph. This is the first of it's kind of coaster in the world. The second attraction Murrissippi Motors, is a significant revamping of the Vintage Cars, that were previously on the other side of the park. - Elsewhere in theme Parks, Disney has announced that beloved Australian cartoon dog Bluey is coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World, as well as being added as a meet and greet to the Australian sailings of the Disney Cruise Line from next month. This comes on the back of Bluey's World, opening here in Brisbane at the start of November. Exactly what is going to happen at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, remains to be seen. I would expect to see meet and greets happening fairly quickly. - Universal Orlando has filed permits for Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit to be removed, and replaced with a proposed new attraction. They have stated the existing ride will close in September 2025. The submitted plans, showed that the entire ride footprint plus some backstage area's near the New York area of the park, have been marked for the removal and replacement permit. The plans are obviously silent on what will replace the ride, but it is possible that this new area, might mean that the ride replacing it could be entered to from the New York area, rather than the current entrance near Minions Land at the front of the park. The wild speculation at this point, is that it could be a long awaited Ghostbusters attraction, running out of the New York section. - Disneyland have opened a new Haunted Mansion themed gift show, Madame Leota's Somewhere Beyond, which went in the space of the former Splash Mountain Fastpass distribution area. - Six Flags has submitted plans this week to "ALTER" rather than "Demolish" their "KINGDA KA/ ZUMANJARO" rides, which have been announced as being removed.
What does it mean to love oneself? Why do so many of us struggle to see ourselves as worthy and enough? Who benefits from our lack of self-love? As we prepare to enter a new year, let's consider changing the track we play in our minds. What if we looked in the mirror and celebrated ourselves, flaws and all? How would it feel to rest when we are tired and eat when we are hungry without guilt or shame? What would it be like to wake up with a heart full of love for ourselves instead of reproach? We have the power to shift our energy by choosing to approve of ourselves, by choosing to be kind rather than cruel. As we walk through the woods on this chilly Christmas afternoon, start to imagine how radical self-love will look for you in 2025. It's time to become a worthy witch! Like it or not, 2024 is almost over, and Indieventure is closing out the year with a trilogy of episodes looking back on our recent experiences of the games industry. We're saving the more targeted analysis of the year in games and of course our big GOTY reveal for the two episodes due out in December, but today we're starting out with a more general question: how has working in games media impacted our experiences of gaming as a hobby? What starts out as a light-hearted "day in the life of a games journalist" chat quickly turns into a group therapy session where we go into a fairly serious examination of the realities of working in games media in the 2020s, both good and bad. This is less a chat about specific games and more an overview of games media trends both visible and invisible to the audience, so if you've ever wanted to hear some inside baseball delivered from the Indieventure trio's perspective, here's your chance. We promise the mood gets lighter over the rest of the holiday season episodes, but we're glad we got all this off our chests! This episode also includes our final pre-GOTY "what we've been playing" round-up, in which Rachel gives a spoiler-free overview of Rise of the Golden Idol; Rebecca catches up on the long-awaited full release of Phoenix Springs; and despite spending much of the past month on another continent, Liam has somehow put another 10 hours into Factorio following the launch of the Space Age expansion. Last but not least, our hyperfixations for this episode see Liam geeking out over the Half-Life 2: 20th Anniversary Documentary, Rebecca enjoying "Somewhere Beyond the Sea" by TJ Klune (the sequel to a Season Zero hyperfixation, "The House in the Cerulean Sea"), and Rachel discovering an amazing TV channel called Mech+ which appears to only show reruns of Robot Wars and it turns out we're all very here for that. Send us a textIn this episode, I chat with one of my favorite authors, TJ Klune, about his much-awaited sequel to The House In The Cerulian Sea, titled Somewhere Beyond The Sea. TJ discusses the characters in the story, how he refills his creative cup, and how he uses his platform to speak about the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. In Somewhere Beyond The Sea, T.J. Klune sheds light on what it's like to parent children who don't fit into societal norms and what it's like to be a child who is a little different. This segment is a profound discussion on empathy, understanding, and the fierce protective instincts of parents, all while touching on the broader struggles faced by the LGBTQ+ community. The evolving relationship between Arthur and Linus and their children in Somewhere Beyond The Sea is a testament to love and acceptance in a world that often fails to embrace diversity. The fight for LGBTQ+ rights is far from over, and T.J. Klune is using his platform to make a difference. We talk about the political and social challenges the trans community faces and the interconnectedness of transphobia and misogyny. T.J. reflects on the importance of friendship, acceptance, and the role of writing in processing complex emotions. This episode is an inspiring blend of personal anecdotes, creative insights, and a call to action for positive change, reminding us of storytelling's transformative power.TJ KluneSomewhere Beyond The Sea, TJ KluneGrief is the Thing With Feathers, Max Porter You Like It Darker: Stories, Stephen KingHorror Movie, Paul TremblayFlamer, Mike Curato For listeners in Australia, consider purchasing your books from yourbookstore.ioSupport the Show. The Bookshop PodcastMandy Jackson-BeverlySocial Media Links

REALITY ISSUES 0075S06 E09 AThe House Of New YorkThis is the only part this week, but we think you'll think that we'll agree that our focus on reality tv this week is actually both on theme and on point. Thanks for reading another on of these key SEO sentences you usually don't read!AI____Get ready to savor a melodious blast from the past as we journey through the exhilarating world of music creation. Indulge in the nostalgia of timeless classics, like "Somewhere Beyond the Sea" and "Blue Nook", and get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the unexpected, often amusing, moments of live performances. I spill the beans about my foray into show business, the thrill of gracing a magazine cover, and how I capably navigate the intricacies of an ever-enduring song. Hold on to your hats as we navigate the choppy waters of pandemic-induced price surges and the surprising scarcity of certain consumer goods, Gatorade Zero, anyone? We'll take a whimsical detour down memory lane, reminiscing about the Halloween candies of yesteryears and the surprising lack of discounts today, courtesy of limited shipments. From the sweet to the sour, we pivot our conversation to the spicy world of reality television, spotlighting 'Flavor of Love', the madcap adventures in 'I Love New York', and the villainous twist of E Network's new show ‘The House of Villains'. For a dash of the unexpected, we'll transition from human drama to the fascinating world of wildlife. We shed light on the impact of Hurricane Adalia on Florida's native flamingo population and discuss the sudden appearances of moose, wolves, and bobcats in New Mexico's populated areas. Ever wondered about the possible repercussions of these wildlife shifts? We've got you covered! To wrap up our chat, we'll navigate the labyrinth of YouTube advertising, contemplating its influence, and the creative process of making music. Brace yourself for a rollercoaster of intrigue and nostalgia, where every moment promises a fascinating revelation.

Lee Becker and I have been pining to get together on a podcast for a while, and his stories do not disappoint. We explore a timeline that includes growing up in a hockey-rich household, finding a passion in the games nuances, regarding equipment, and eventually traveling overseas and finding the game in a whole new way. Lee has some incredible tales that we move through, but even more that will be shared when we connect for the second of this two-part story. Enjoy! beautyunis.com thegardensicehouse.com

Torus Filth comes to us across the globe, through time and space, to share stories about the islands of New Zealand. How I wish to brave those New islands at one point in my life, but until then, we'll have to sit at home online and read scary stories instead. In 2009 he and fellow rower Chris Martin earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records for completing their seven thousand mile voyage across the Pacific in record-breaking time. Interview with Stewart Dickson, Non-Executive Director of Trans-Siberian Gold (LON: TSG)Trans-Siberian Gold is an established gold producer and has been in production for 9 years. Dickson regards Trans-Siberian Gold as a stable 40,000oz dividend-paying producer. Trans-Siberian Gold is listed on AIM with a portfolio of Russian assets. The 7-person board has direct experience with mining operations in Russia. Is the reputation of Russia problematic? Dickson claims there are myths and misconceptions. He remarks that Russia has a low sovereign risk based on 3 keys areas of risk: security of assets, ability to repatriate capital and staff safety. Russia has no history of expropriating mining assets ever. Investors need to decide whether they feel comfortable with Russia as a gold mining jurisdiction. Dickson remarks that gold is a strategic asset for the Russian government, and the Far East of Russia is underdeveloped and prospective.Trans-Siberian Gold has paid US$21.5M of dividends to UK and global shareholders in the last 5 years. It has a 100% indigenous workforce with no ex-pats.Production figures stand at 38-42,000oz per year in terms of gold, which is a relatively small number, but Trans-Siberian Gold is producing cash. Why does Trans-Siberian feel obligated to pay dividends when other similar juniors don’t? Dickson claims it is his financial responsibility to reward investors. He claims Trans-Siberian offers a very high payout ratio and dividend yield, which helps mitigate people’s concerns. The AISC is somewhere between US$900/1000/oz. It used to be US$850/oz for the first half of 2019. Why this increase? Dickson claims the AISC is up because they are reinvesting in the mine life of the current gold asset via a US$7M drilling programme. Dickson claims Trans-Siberian Gold is in the bottom third of the gold mining cost curve based on its 2020 guidance. It has been profitable for a number of years, even in lower gold price environments. Why has the share price been in freefall since gold went up, and most gold producers performed extremely well in 2H/19? Dickson claims that the market was starting to pay attention to Trans-Siberian Gold in Summer '19, but interim results in September they stated Trans-Siberian Gold's resource had been overstated (the size of the contained ounces). The management team disclosed this and gave guidance, but this clearly put off a lot of investors. However, Dickson is confident operations can continue fully until 2024 without exploration. The dual hammer blow of a small fund wanting to exit at the same time for an unrelated reason caused the large share price tail off.The truth is clear: the share price hasn’t recovered, despite Dickson's claims to the contrary. However, Trans-Siberian is fully funded for the US$7M drilling programme. In reality, profitable ounces don’t give you growth. How will Trans Siberian bring the excitement back into the story? What M&A is possible in Far East Russia? The management team thinks they can grow the gold resource base through a step-out drill programme. Trans-Siberian Gold Bought a second asset last year for US$3M, located 50KM down the road, and proved a resource of 1Moz. Tonight I'm absolutely thrilled to be heading up the most remote inhabited island in the British Isles, Fair Isle, to talk to crofter, Rachel Challoner @BarklandCroft We talk about her early life in Lincolnshire, and how she initially trained to be a teacher, after studying music at university. We then discuss how after realising that school teaching wasn't for her, she ended up in the Royal Navy, sailing all over the World, before eventually transferring to the Army, where she taught Arabic to soldiers deploying to the Middle East. And we then go into her life on Fair Isle at length, how she got there, the challenges of Island life, her croft and sheep, how she's become a part of the community, and the importance of social media as a connection to the outside World. All this and much, much more. Rachel's a real inspiration with how she's made a life for herself in such an amazing, unique place, and it was a real pleasure to talk to her tonight. In this time of economic downturn with Walt Disney World seemingly, battening down the hatches for a slow down in business by cutting back on some of its live entertainment groups, it is nice to hear that some folks from the Adventurers Club and Comedy Warehouse may have other jobs on property, I recently leaned that Carol, a talented keyboardist who worked at the Comedy Warehouse, got a job at Rose & Crown Pub, while I was quite pleased to hear this my next thought was, "Does that mean that Pam Brodie has went into full retirement? (she works two days a week in a sort of semi-retirement position), or are they getting rid of Leon Gregory?", it then occurred to me that perhaps there was another option too perhaps they would add some earlier sets, I then realized in the current economic climate that was quite unlikely, and when I got the opportunity to chat with some other fans asked if any of them had heard what the story was, unfortunately it turns out they are getting rid of Leon, in fact his last day has come and gone. Unfortunately times of unemployment seem to be an unavoidable fact of life for most musicians. You know, when you think about it Walt Disney World allows an almost unheard of opportunity for musicians to have regular work without having to travel. I'll miss Leon and hope he lands on his feet, and with his talent and experience, think that he may have a better chace at that than most folks would in his situation, with some luck I may get to hear him play again someday. As for Carol I only caught her once, as for me I only made my first trip to the Comedy Warehouse for the first time last December (and decided I needed to visit it more on future trips, oh well, so much for that!) even from that brief exposure it was clear she is one talented individual. So the next time I'm at the pub in the Great Brittan Pavilion I'll enjoy Carol (or Pam Brodie if it is one of her days) but I'll pause and think of Leon Gregory in a silent toast to him. As I recounted on this episode I first saw Leon perform on the "Trip without a camera" (Celebration 25), but the set in this episode was recorded a few weeks later when I was on a trip where I was able to stop and listen for a full set (RADP 12). linksThe Let's Talk About Disney Forums:http://www.letstalkaboutdisney.com/LTADForum/index.php The Mousin it up! subsection of LTADhttp://www.letstalkaboutdisney.com/LTADForum/forumdisplay.php?f=64The Yahoo group for the bigbrian-nc.com site and NC Disney news is at:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/disneypodcast/ Steve Soares fine site of WDW entertainment schedules:http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/ songsThe Extraordinary Leon Gregory 1. unknown2. pub Medley It’s A Long, long way to Tipperary I want a rotten song Roll out the Barrel I’m Henry the Eighth I am 3.
