(1:00) However, this year he decided to focus more on strength training. It doesn't mean he's slacking on cardio. He's prepping for another climb up Mt. Whitney in the upcoming months. They discuss “periodization" training. Vinnie switches to a recent consultation he had with a couple. (16:00) He realizes he needs to discuss the subject of vitamins more frequently. (20:20) Vitamin B-12 is essential and involved in developing red blood cells, brain health, and DNA. There are different forms of B-12 vitamins: methylcobalamin and cyanocobalamin. Stay away from cyanocobalamin. It is a synthetic form and contains a cyanide molecule. Vitamin C is absorbed better when hooked to a fat molecule (meaning liposomal). (28:00) The reason Vinnie created a vitamin company is to help people be better. (28:30) When he was cured of cancer in 2007, he analyzed everything in his lifestyle, including the vitamins he was taking. He realized that even the high-end vitamins he had been using had crap ingredients. (31:00) Vitamin E is great to take, but take one made with tocotrienol, a better form of vitamin E. (40:15) Vitamins often work better when they are blended with the proper molecules. For example, Vitamin D3 is absorbed better when attached to Vitamin K. Two recent studies show that vitamin D can be an effective way to slow multiple sclerosis. (44:45) A specific strain of spirulina is apparently a usable form of B-12 for vegans. Low vitamin D levels are caused by people staying indoors, location, skin color, and other lifestyle and genetic factors. Most people have insulin resistance, which is caused by chronic carbohydrate consumption and constant snacking. Nitric oxide relaxes the blood vessels and is vital for the health of the endothelial layer of the arteries. Vitamin D triggers nitric oxide, which is why many people who are low in vitamin D also have high blood pressure. Arginine, testosterone, and magnesium also trigger nitric oxide. Vitamin D and magnesium can help prevent calcium from building up in the arteries, and vitamin K2 also helps to prevent calcium buildup. Foods like whole grains and seed oils are deemed “heart healthy,” but they spike insulin. We're also told to avoid saturated fats because of the cholesterol content. There's a lot of false information regarding a diet that's truly healthy for your heart. The best meal to clean your arteries would involve foods that don't spike insulin. A low-carb ketogenic diet is best for your heart. The primary part of the best meal to clean out your arteries should be grass-fed red meat. If you're having a burger, melt raw cheese on top because it's high in vitamin K2. Red meat is loaded with zinc, which can directly improve your testosterone. Include a salad with your meal. Arugula is a great addition to any salad, as it can increase nitric oxide and is rich in vitamins C and E. Pumpkin seeds are also beneficial due to their high magnesium, zinc, and selenium content. Vitamin D3 is vital for a healthy heart. Sunlight is the best source, but you may need to take a supplement in the winter. Take at least 10,000 IU daily as a maintenance dose.

Today, I'm going to tell you why two Brazil nuts each day may help with hypothyroid conditions. Most hypothyroid conditions are really Hashimoto's disease, which is an autoimmune condition. 14 million people are diagnosed with Hashimoto's each year in the US alone. Hashimoto's puts you at risk for developing other types of autoimmune disease. Selenium is a trace mineral needed in very small amounts. It's involved in over 25 different genes related to antioxidants. It also has potent anti-inflammatory effects. Selenium-rich foods include seafood, shellfish, organ meats, and Brazil nuts. Brazil nuts have the highest concentrations of selenium. Two Brazil nuts each day give you 200 mcg of selenium. Several randomized controlled trials found that selenium reduces the antibodies that attack the thyroid. When thyroid-stimulating hormone increases, it does not connect with the thyroid, leading to a hypothyroid condition. Selenium can also help with this condition. If you have Hashimoto's hypothyroidism, lots of hydrogen peroxide is generated. Selenium helps to neutralize hydrogen peroxide. Selenium helps control the T helper cells, which orchestrate your immune response. It also feeds the T-reg cells, which help prevent autoimmune diseases. Your brain, immune system, and reproductive system depend heavily on selenium, so sometimes, there's not much left for the thyroid to function correctly. This may lead to Hashimoto's symptoms, which include feeling tired, cold, weight gain, hair loss, and brittle hair. Try eating two to four Brazil nuts daily to support your thyroid gland's health. Don't do more than that because it's possible to overdo it with selenium. In addition to selenium, ensure you're getting enough sunlight or consume high doses of vitamin D3.
