It was a busy Wednesday at the BYU Student Athlete Building, and KSL Sports BYU Insider Mitch Harper unpacks all of it. The biggest headline: Kalani Sitake met with reporters at team photo day and addressed the elephant in the room — his relationship with athletic director Brian Santiago and his recent comments about BYU's resources. After saying on a recent radio interview that BYU has been "given the challenge of doing the most with the least," Sitake was pressed on what that means going forward. His answer was direct: "My agent's going to handle all of that stuff. I'm going to focus on this year's team. As long as I'm the head coach at BYU, I'm going to fight like crazy to make this a premier program." And on his relationship with Santiago? "I'm easy to get along with as long as you take care of our football team." Mitch breaks down the context — Sitake turning down Penn State last winter, the recent Santiago rumors, the hiring of new deputy AD Marc Hill from Kentucky — and what it all signals about the current state of the BYU athletic department heading into a critical season. Also on today's episode, Mitch chats with BYU assistant quarterbacks coach Tyler Hughes. The Salt Lake City native joins the Cougars in his first year after a career that includes four NFL seasons with the New England Patriots, a stint as an offensive analyst at Alabama under Kalen DeBoer. Hughes also brings local roots as a former head coach at Bountiful High School and Snow College. In the interview, Hughes discusses working alongside offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick to develop Bear Bachmeier heading into his sophomore campaign, what he's seen from the quarterback room through fall camp, and his journey from the NFL back to the college game. And to close things out, Mitch recaps Picture Day inside the Indoor Practice Facility. BYU football took a day off from practice as players and coaches gathered for the official team photo on the outdoor practice field before heading inside the IPF. Mitch shares the scene, the vibe, and notes from a midweek break in the second week of camp as the Cougars continue building toward their September 5 opener against Utah Tech. We’re back for Part 2 of our May Q&A, which means the offseason conversation gets both bigger and weirder. We start off with College Football Playoff expansion anxiety, including the possibility of a 24-team field, the future of conference championship games, and the growing gap between the people running the sport and the fans who love it. We discuss the new marriage between Michigan State and Pat Fitzgerald, which leads us into a broader conversation about safe hires, risky hires, Transfer Portal recruiting, and what it actually means to rebuild in the modern Big Ten. We also touch on Texas, Arch Manning, Steve Sarkisian, Florida State, Mike Norvell, and the kinds of expectations that can turn a normal season into a referendum. We also spend some time on the quarterback and offensive coordinator pairings we’re most curious to watch, with stops at places like Georgia Tech, UCLA, Florida, Kentucky, and a few others. Which combinations are actually exciting? Which ones feel volatile? Which ones have the widest range of possible outcomes? And because it’s an offseason Q&A, we find room for the important stuff: wearing your team’s gear when things are bleak, whether video podcasts have raised the appearance bar, and Dan’s surprisingly spicy take on wearing sneakers with suits. The Florida Gators just landed their quarterback for the 2027 class — and he might be the most physically gifted signal caller in the country. In this exclusive episode of Stadium and Gale, Dan sits down with Sage Hansard of ARC QB Training, the personal quarterback coach who has worked with Davin Davidson since he was 12 years old.Davin Davidson, the 6'6" Cardinal Mooney product, chose Florida over Notre Dame, Georgia, Miami, Auburn, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, and Florida State in one of the fastest-rising recruitments in the 2027 class. A state champion, Elite 11 finalist, and four-star prospect currently ranked inside the top 13 quarterbacks nationally, Davidson finished his junior year with 2,360 yards, 23 touchdowns, and a 126.7 QB rating.Sage breaks down what makes Davin different — an elite .34-.35 second release, the ability to throw the ball 70-75 yards with ease, elite pocket mechanics, and an athleticism that catches people off guard. We get into his path from Sarasota High School to Cardinal Mooney, his relationship with the Florida staff, including Coach Summerall, Buster Faulkner, and the connection with Steve Spurrier Jr., and why Sage — a diehard FSU fan — believes his guy made the right call heading to Gainesville. If you follow Florida Gators football, Gators recruiting, or the 2027 quarterback class, this one is essential. Davin Davidson is the real deal.
