The Supreme Court handed Donald Trump another major legal setback, delivering rulings that pack significant consequences.Underwhelming. That seems to be the consensus of attendees of The Great American State Fair. It's President Trump's official 250th-anniversary celebration on the National Mall going on through July. The fair was organized by Freedom 250, that's the Trump administration-created group that seemed formed to compete with the congressionally established America250 organization. Most states participated, but Maine, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania refused to send delegations, citing costs, scheduling conflicts, and politicization concerns. Other states left their booths unstaffed, with visitors finding empty displays at Hawaii and Alaska. From the sparse crowds to the half-empty booths, the fair highlights a fractured nation struggling to celebrate together. iHeart political analyst Gary Dietrich will stop by to talk politics. *programming note: Sarah Kendzior will be on the show Tuesday this week instead of her usual Monday. The Mark Thompson Show 6/29/26Patreon subscribers are the backbone of the show! Friday Feedback pod today, and it's got an Australian Open flavour, with plenty of comments on the news that the 2027 tournament will be held at Peninsula Kingswood. First up is Tracey, who simply wanted to say how pleased she was that the AO would be played at her home course, and why wouldn't you be! Mark makes the observation that he things PK has the most impressive 'drive in' in Australia, and that the emerald colour of the course is spectacular at the moment. Nick and Mark discuss when courses go into dormancy.Recently we filmed a few holes at The Furrows at Kingston Heath, if you haven't watched it on YouTube you can see it here, and we kick around the idea of heading north to Queensland during the winter dormancy in Melbourne....if you think there is a course, probably in Brisbane, that we should head to and film a couple of the key holes or key areas at, let us know in the comments and we'll pick one to go to in a few weeks.Wayne says that the PK news is great, and that it has the best clubhouse/course combo he's seen. Nick and Mark discuss and kick around some of their faves.....Mark names one veeeery famous course as having an underwhelming clubhouse, and menu. Trav also loves the AO being at PK.However, Michael makes a comment that whilst it's good for now, when LIV dies, after the PGAT contract with Golf Australia, he reckons the PGAT are out. Nick and Mark discuss.Funk has an idea about the composite structure of PK, do Nick and Mark agree? We discuss the composite, Mark has spoken to Mike Cocking about it, and he (Mike) reckons it's going to be great. And before the turn, John has a moment for Mark about his complaint on last weeks show about the lack of warm bread rolls in restaurants these days. Rest assured, we'll deal with all the big issues on Talk Birdie To Me.After the turn, we have a call from Dave from Brisbane who is a 5 handicapper and using old Wilsons, and has some questions about upgrading. Nick and Mark discuss how upgrading would help Dave's game, and explain why - Nick reckons, if Dave is off 5 with his current gear, he's a shot at scratch with newer gear. Whilst we've got Dave we get a rundown on his local Ipswich club and how it's looking and playing at the moment.A fun Friday Feedback pod today, keep your questions and comments coming, we love getting them! We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Hostplus, Talk Birdie To Me's official retirement partnerBMW, luxury and comfort for the 19th hole;Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;Golf Clearance Outlet, they beat everyone's prices;Betr, the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia; The Find My Player app - follow every player on every tour; And Southern Golf Club. Next stop on our Shore Leave jaunt is "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" and what can we say but: at least William Sadler is a delight. Your stalwarts find themselves a bit underwhelmed by this odd sequel, which maybe was a little TOO different from its predecessor. Something is just missing this time around, and no amount of weird robots or caked-up Martians can fix it. Also this week: sequel issues, more film trauma for little Chris, and forgetting their own rules.
