In this episode, I'm giving you a virtual tour of my new old house: the big-picture pieces, the quirky challenges, the garden and yard details, and the interior spaces I'm slowly bringing back to life.I'm sharing the details on how my new old house isn't polished or perfect, but there's so much I already love about it, and how I'm learning a ton about how to focus on layers instead of going 'all in' on projects. Whether you're moving to a new place or simply feeling overwhelmed with your current one, I think this episode has some great tips to help you learn to love what you have.Podcast Episode Highlights:Giving you a virtual tour of my new old houseRecent criticisms and my responseBig picture stuff on my new placeThe challenges of a new homeWhat I love about my new placeMy garden and yard detailsThe interior of my new old houseFocusing on layersWhy growth isn't always goodFinal thoughtsResources Mentioned in This Podcast Episode:The Substack article on My New Old House: https://jillwinger.substack.com/p/the-new-old-houseThe blog article on My New Old House: https://www.theprairiehomestead.com/2026/05/the-new-old-house.htmlOTHER HELPFUL RESOURCES FOR YOUR HOMESTEAD:Sign up for weekly musings from my homestead: https://jillwinger.substack.com/Get my free homesteading tutorials & recipes here: www.theprairiehomestead.comJill on Instagram: @jill.wingerJill on Facebook: http://facebook.com/theprairiehomesteadApply to be a guest on the Old-Fashioned on Purpose podcast: https://www.theprairiehomestead.com/podcast-guest-applicationDid you enjoy listening to this episode? Most businesses struggling with profitability aren't spending too much on ads. They're holding too much stock. The wrong stock. Stock bought on gut feel six months ago, sitting in a warehouse, tying up cash that could be doing something useful.Talea Bader is the co-founder of SKUTOPIA, an Australian fulfilment operation that's been building its own AI and robotics platform for eight years. He runs fulfilment for hundreds of businesses, from early-stage brands all the way through to enterprise, which gives him a view of what's actually happening inside these businesses rather than the version operators tell themselves. He's seen a business turning over $700 million move from significant losses to tens of millions in profit. Not by changing their marketing. Not by redesigning their website. By changing the way they managed inventory.Today, we're discussing:Why inventory is your biggest P&L lever, and most businesses go looking for profit in the wrong placeThe difference between gross margin and delivered margin, and why most buying decisions are made off the wrong numberWhy inventory reordering is still super manual, spreadsheet based, and driven by ego instead of scienceHow to know your weeks on hand before it becomes a crisisThe $700 million business that moved from significant losses to tens of millions in profit through better inventory management aloneConnect with Talea Bader | Explore SKUTOPIASubscribe to the Add To Cart newsletter SMS us to Suggest a Guest Connect with Nathan Bush Join the Add To Cart Community
Send us Fan MailLet's talk about the hassle factor, and why that term doesn't even begin to cover what we're actually dealing with.I'm coming into this episode a little fired up, and honestly, that's the point. In the last two weeks, I've been flooded with prior authorization requests for patients on GLP-1 medications. Patients who already have approval. Patients we know don't have coverage and have been paying cash. Patients whose prescriptions are not new. And yet, there it is, over and over in my inbox.None of it required action. But I still had to look. Every. Single. Time. Because the consequence of missing one that actually matters? A patient doesn't get their medication. That is not a hassle. That is moral injury stacked on top of administrative burden stacked on top of the very real risk of patient harm.In this episode, we dig into what the hassle factor actually is, why physicians are leaving medicine because of it, and what we can do to take care of ourselves when we're living inside it.Here's what we cover:Why "hassle factor" is both useful and inadequate as a term, and what's really underneath itThe three-step process I use to move from reacting to responding when the system is piling onRadical acceptance and what it does (and does not) meanWhy naming your emotions matters before you try to fix anythingHow I personally handled a workplace policy I disagreed with, and what intentional non-participation looks like in practiceWhy leaving medicine or your job is sometimes the right answer, and why you still want to do it from a clean, grounded placeThe hassle factor is real. The moral injury is real. And you deserve to navigate all of it with your whole self intact.Ready to get some support? Let's talk. This week on bigcitysmalltown, Cory Ames moderates a live panel from Creative Futures, a two-day summit in San Antonio bringing together creators, builders, entrepreneurs, and civic thinkers. This conversation focuses on green spaces in San Antonio — how we grow them, how we protect them, and how we creatively integrate nature into a city that is expanding fast.Joining Cory are Brandon Ross, capital programs manager for San Antonio Parks and Recreation, where he has spent two decades overseeing the Howard Peak Greenway Trail System, now over 100 miles of connected trail and growing; Bob Webster, co-owner of Shades of Green Nursery, a San Antonio institution he and his business partner Roberta Church built over 45 years, now being transformed into a public legacy garden; Stephen Lucke, founder and CEO of Gardopia Gardens, a nonprofit stewarding more than 20 acres across 75 schools and 10 school districts, reaching over 25,000 people annually; and Adriana Quiñones, President and CEO of Arboretum San Antonio, a 230-plus-acre former golf course on the southeast side being converted into one of the city's most significant public green spaces. They discuss:How the Howard Peak Greenway Trail System grew to over 100 miles — and why connecting green spaces multiplies their ecological valueThe physical barriers — rail lines, major roadways, lack of safe crossings — that limit access to parks and trails across the cityWhy Bob Webster turned down $3.5 million for Shades of Green, and what he's building in its placeThe difference between a park and a garden, and why San Antonio needs bothHow Gardopia Gardens uses school yards, churches, and public land to integrate food growing into everyday lifeWhy native and edible trees — pecans, Mexican plums, mulberries — should replace the default landscaping choices across the cityHow Arboretum San Antonio is using community input from over 18,000 San Antonians to shape a 20-year development planWhat green equity means in practice, and why access to green space shouldn't require traveling farRECOMMENDED NEXT LISTEN:▶ 160. In this honest and eye-opening episode 115 of Going Forward, host Eric Elliott sits down with entrepreneur, automation expert, and Co-CEO of Biggest Goal, Alane Boyd, to unpack what it really takes to scale a business without losing yourself in the process.Alane has built and exited multiple companies, but what she shares in this conversation goes far beyond strategy. From the painful reality that “no one owes you their loyalty” to the moment she was forced to step back from her own company, she reveals the hard truths most founders avoid until it's too late.Together, they explore the hidden costs of growth, including burnout, identity loss, and the pressure of being the “hero” inside your own business. Alane opens up about the physical toll scaling took on her health and how chronic stress forced her to rethink everything. They also dive into one of the biggest mistakes founders make: believing that being good is enough. As Alane explains, if you're not telling your story, no one knows you exist, and that misunderstanding can quietly limit your growth. From systems and automation to leadership and letting go, this episode challenges the way most people think about building a company. It's not just about scaling revenue, it's about building something that can operate without you.Topics include:The emotional reality of scaling a businessWhy employees leaving can break a company without systems in placeThe danger of “hero syndrome” in leadershipHow burnout can physically impact your healthWhy marketing yourself matters more than you thinkBuilding systems that protect your businessHow AI and automation are reshaping the future of our workThis episode is a powerful reminder that growth isn't just about doing more, it's about letting go.Connect w/ Eric Elliott:Website: https://ericelliott.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ericelliottspeakerLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/theericelliott/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ericmelliott/Twitter: https://twitter.com/EricMElliottTiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@ericmelliottEmail: Eric@EricElliott.comText: 843-279-5843Connect w/ Alane Boyd:Website: https://www.biggestgoal.ai/Medium Articles: https://medium.com/@AlaneBoydLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/alaneboyd/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the_hurricanealane/Supercharge your online advertising campaigns with Optmyzr! In this episode, I'm sitting down with Giulia Enders, a doctor and the author of the brand-new book Organique (Albin Michel) — a tour of the human body, organ by organ, to understand how everything works… and what it all has to tell us about life. You might know Giulia Enders from her massive bestseller Gut: The Inside Story of Our Body's Most Underrated Organ (Actes Sud), which sold millions of copies around the world. With Organique, she goes bigger: the whole body this time. Because the body is so much more than just a machine to keep running! In this episode, we get into…The immune system — and why "your body is attacking itself" is a phrase we need to ditchAutoimmune diseases: what the science actually says (and why women are more affected)Skin as a living organ: the skin microbiome, collagen, beauty routines… and what the research really tells usMuscles as the brain's communication partner — and a seriously underrated anti-aging toolChronic stress: the outside vs. the inside, and why we keep looking for answers in the wrong placeThe brain knocked off its throne: not the boss, just one organ that's really dependent on all the othersAnd how to talk about medicine without freaking people out — or dumbing it downGiulia Enders has this rare ability to explain the body in a way that's both totally rigorous and genuinely funny. She can talk to scientists and to people who've never touched a biology textbook. And she does it with an energy that makes you actually want to get to know the body you live in.So — which organ fascinates you the most, or keeps you up at night with questions? With a focus on practical implementation over hype, Jim conducts executive briefings for organizations trying to move beyond "what is AI?" to "how do we actually use this?"In this episode, Jim breaks down why most companies are still in the "second inning" of AI adoption, why Microsoft Copilot is quietly dominating the enterprise space while everyone obsesses over consumer tools, and the critical mistake organizations make when they skip the "what problem are we solving?" question and jump straight to tools. In this episode:Why AI hallucinations happen — and the dangerous reality that AI's first obligation is to make you happy, not tell you the truthHow Microsoft is playing the long game: building the infrastructure that powers their competitors while positioning Copilot as the enterprise AI front-endThe human skills gap that AI actually makes more important — why expertise matters more than ever, not lessWhy one skilled person with AI can now do the work of five, but you can't skip being skilled in the first placeThe real timeline for AI transformation: why it's going to take 10-12 years before we look back and don't recognize 2023What organizations get dangerously wrong about AI job displacement versus the actual "adjustment" that's comingWhy Pro Arch always starts with use cases and data readiness before ever discussing which AI tool to implementConnect with Jim Spignardo & Pro Arch:LinkedIn & proarch.com

Today we're exploring something that feels simple… but is actually deeply transformative: curiosity. What does it really mean to be curious outdoors — not as a strategy, not as a checklist — but as a way of being? In this episode, Lauren sits down with Dr. David Bryan, an educator and consultant with decades of experience across middle school, high school, university, and independent school leadership. He co-founded New Roads School and continues to work with schools and organizations exploring innovation, governance, and learning design. But today's conversation isn't about titles. It's about posture. Presence. Permission. So many of us were trained to think of learning as delivering content:Clear outcomesClear objectivesClear answersBut outdoors, learning doesn't always resolve neatly.Questions trail off. Interests shift. Students crouch down to investigate something and forget the “lesson.”David speaks about how curiosity flourishes when we give explicit permission to slow down and follow what draws our attention — even briefly. What does that permission actually look like in real classrooms?Curiosity grows when teachers:Allow students to linger with an object, sound, or place without needing to name its purposeFrame outdoor time as “noticing time” rather than “lesson time”Name curiosity out loud: “I'm not sure what that is — I'm curious too.”This shift may seem small, but it changes everything. When students are being curious outdoors, they are learning:How to pay attentionHow to observeHow to formulate meaningful questionsPatienceHow to relate consciously to placeThe value of uncertaintyWhat to do when they don't know somethingWhat to do when they don't know what to doOf course, curricular content is present too.But genuine curiosity often begins in a quieter place:“Hmmm… I'm not sure.”And that might be the most important place learning can begin.

Horton, and what investors need to know about zoning, approvals, density, and infrastructure. You'll learn:How Brandon identifies land that builders actually want to buyWhy zoning and density matter more than acreageHow to work with city planners instead of fighting themHow builders can help cover development soft costsWhy you should never buy land before approvals are in placeThe key differences between developing land in growth-friendly markets vs. restrictive states like New York and CaliforniaWhether you're an experienced real estate investor or just curious about land development, this episode offers a clear, honest look at how value is created long before construction ever begins.Brandon also shares free educational resources and explains how investors can learn more about land development through LearnLandDevelopment.com.Brandon Cobb - https://www.linkedin.com/in/hbgcapital/Hope You enjoy it I offer other products thanks for listening
In this moving and memorable episode of Two Worlds, One Me, I sit down with British-Ghanaian artist Joshua Donkor, whose award-winning portraits explore diasporic identity, ancestral memory and the stories that shape who we are.Joshua's work is deeply personal, filled with image transfers, textures and fragments of family photographs, but it speaks to all of us who have ever wondered where we belong. We talk about growing up mixed-race in the UK, about finally visiting Ghana and meeting his grandmother, and dancing together when words weren't possible. We also explore his time living in Italy, how that experience helped him grow, and how painting became a way to both discover and document his identity. We reflect on the joy of family, the power of archiving our stories, and why memory, like colour and scent, can carry so much meaning. This episode is for anyone who has lived between cultures, carries more than one soul within them, or simply wants to understand the beauty and complexity of identity through the eyes of an artist.Featuring:The story behind Joshua's most powerful paintingsHis English mother's letters from GhanaWhat “home” means when you belong to more than one placeThe smell of groundnut soup and the colour of belongingAnd why dancing can sometimes say more than words ever could_______________________________Joshua's exhibition title was inspired by the poet Fernando Pessoa: "I have more souls than one..." In this bold and eye-opening episode, Dr. Dee sits down with four powerful guests to dismantle the illusion of seduction and expose the emotional and spiritual damage hiding behind it. “Seduction ain't really sexy—it's an imposter.” “How many of you are seducing as a woman, but there's a little girl inside?”Together, they unpack:The difference between authentic femininity and seductive performanceHow seduction often masks insecurity, trauma, and imposter syndromeThe emotional toll of being seduced—and seducing—from a wounded placeThe role of foreplay, initiation, and emotional connection in healthy intimacyHow narcissistic relationships distort identity and self-worthWhy freedom, not seduction, is the true path to healing and wholenessThis episode is a powerful reminder that being a woman is not about performance—it's about presence, purpose, and truth. If you've ever questioned your worth, your role, or your identity in relationships, this conversation will challenge and free you.

Because while your product matters, what matters more is how you get it into people's hands. We'll cover:Why “build it and they will come” is a dangerous mindset for product-based foundersThe role of retailers, stockists, and partners in helping you growThe power of distribution and getting your product in front of more peopleWhy supporting your stores and stockists is just as important as landing them in the first placeThe shift second-time founders make that first-time founders overlookWhat else matters more than the product itself (pricing, marketing, visibility, and customer experience)By the end, you'll know exactly where to shift your focus so your product doesn't just sit pretty on a shelf - it actually sells.✨ Free Training Alert: Want to build a 90-day roadmap for more sales and consistent profit (without relying on social media)? Immersing myself deeply in the season of Summer here on the East coast has meant that I went on a little hiatus when it comes to sharing about my journey with moving my whole family across the country, purchasing land, learning farming, building community, and everything else. So, for this episode, I asked my friend Sarah Wildeman, who's been a beloved guest on the podcast before, to interview me about what has been present in my life in this season. I'm on the cusp of the anniversary of our move from the West coast to our farm in the Hudson Valley and my relationship with this land and the community around me is ever evolving, changing, sometimes challenging and very much deepening.Tune in to hear more from us on:The importance of choosing to be present and slowing down in order to fully connect with the land and communityThe challenges and tensions that arise when building community in a new placeThe process of letting go of old identities and finding a new sense of purpose and worthThe ongoing journey of grappling with challenges and staying true to oneselfReconnecting with the land requires trust in intuition and working with the energy of the seasonsSupporting each other through transitions and embracing different roles in a relationship is essentialEmbodying generosity and celebrating differences in partnership allows for flourishingResources + LinksEpisode 118 with Sarah Wildeman: “Community Living Wherever You Are”Episode 121 with Hillarie Maddox: “WTF did I just do?
