I'm at a TED event when Sarah Silverman takes the stage. She launches into her comedy set and as she gets going, I notice something interesting. A couple of jokes in, some people in the audience are already laughing hysterically. But others are fidgeting and looking uncomfortable with some of her content. My husband Mark turns to me and says, “Stand-up comedy is hard.” I agree and whisper back, “Yeah - that's why they invented Dad jokes. That's much easier - they're like training wheels for laughter.” Stand-up on the other hand is another league and I'd rather leave to the professionals - like my special guest today. Emily Walsh is a stand-up comedian who performs all over the world. And today on the Storytelling School Podcast, she shares how the worlds of comedy and story intertwine from her perspective. This week is Pt 2 of our conversations with comedians performing at the Rogue Island Comedy Festival.  This episode includes conversations with Sam Evans, Miguel Perez, Alan Fitzgerald, KC Arora, Nore Davis, and finally Rogue Island Comedy Festival founder Doug Key.  Ace and I cannot thank Doug Key and Katie Latimer enough for allowing us to be part of this amazing festival and for treating us so well.

Comedian Mike Holmes came in studio this week and yenta'd on with us about the Kim Davis saga, the Nicole Arbour controversy, and this was our premiere week on Periscope. Matt gave us his opinion on Narcos on Netflix (you should watch it). We moved next into the Kim Davis reality show, the Kentucky clerk who refuses to issue marriage licenses to gay couples and was recently released from prison for contempt of court. She even drew presidential candidate Mike Huckabee to her release day, who attempted to emulate human emotions in a bid to win crowd support. We watched comedian Nicole Arbour's video, Dear Fat People which is supposed to fat shame people into losing weight. This of course was met with backlash from our society's greatest fat people, including the star of My Big Fat Fabulous Life - Whitney Way Thore. We made it through her response video where we learned acceptance about being fat and enjoying fast food. Harvey's Headlines brought us the news about Wes Craven's death, the Superbad stunt by a Millis MA police officer, and Elon Musk wants to nuke Mars. A Mexican man has a 19" penis, Universal made $1B in movies this year, and a Canadian Parliament candidate dropped out because a video of him pissing in a mug surfaced.
