Ahhhh, spring at last. Or is it? Our most anticipated season has a habit of arriving in fits and starts: a few days of temperate glory...and then a chilled rerun of late winter; a sweet day of sunshine and birdsong...and then, a nasty day of cold rain and hail. It breeds a kind of disorientation you feel in your body...and makes you question where you are. When ambient musicians focus on spring, they're thinking of brighter timbres, more energetic rhythms, and warmer harmonies. Will the weather take the hint? It's a toss-up, but the psychological effect, at least, can be comforting. On this transmission of Hearts of Space...ambient electronics to summon and celebrate spring, on a program called WARMING TREND. Music by ERIK WØLLO, RUDY ADRIAN, STEVE ROACH, ANDREW LAHIFF, AMONGST MYSELVES, TOM EATON, and PATRICK O'HEARN. [ view playlist ] [ view Flickr image gallery ] [ play 30 second MP3 promo ]

Even in these days of extreme and unpredictable weather, our astronomical position in the Northern Hemisphere of a tilted planet all but guarantees that October is the month we finally descend into autumn. The Fall Equinox has come and gone, the days grow ever shorter, the light grows ever dimmer. In the natural world, it's a time of withering flora and busy fauna preparing for winter's chilled embrace. For ambient musicians, it's a time for dark drones, descending progressions, and minor key harmonies, a realm of muted colors, bittersweet melodies, and a bit of melancholy for the lost days of summer. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, we follow the dimming light to a realm of quiet acceptance, on a program called DESCENDING DARK 4. Music is by RUDY ADRIAN, DRIFTING IN SILENCE & TINEIDAE, ROBERT RICH & LUCA FORMENTINI, STEVE ROACH & LINDA KOHANOV, JEFF PEARCE, ANDREW LAHIFF, CHRIS RUSSELL, and SERENA GABRIEL. It's been over 50 years since electronic music emerged from academic laboratories and embarked on the road to mainstream popularity. One of the most influential early artists was Greek musician EVANGELOS PAPATHANASSIOU—mercifully shortened to VANGELIS—who began as the keyboard player of the biggest rock band ever in Greece (APHRODITE'S CHILD), then quit and moved to London, where he began scoring films and documentaries. While the Germans focused on technology, Vangelis adapted the Romantic Classical genre to electronic keyboards, created lush, melodic, emotionally expressive music, and became an A-list film composer. It's a style that still reverberates today. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, inspired by a classic Vangelis album celebrating the world's oceans, a deep blue journey called OCEANIC REALMS 2. Music is by VANGELIS, THE AMNIS INITIATIVE, APOCLIPTIC & ROMERIUM, LOSCIL, JEAN-MICHEL JARRE, RUDY ADRIAN, and LIQUID MIND. This month's 101 Dimensions curated by Yours Truly features music by Nik Turner, Klaus Schulze, Vangelis, and Rudy Adrian! Playlist
This edition's lineup brings many of the regular artist's new albums we've supported over many years. With David Wright's 30th solo release ‘Fade', his music drifts between waves of gentle ambience and the dynamism of pulsating sequences. Hailing from the mystical isles of New Zealand, long-established Spotted Peccary Music artist Rudy Adrian. Steve Hillman has always been drawn to early music from the Medieval period onwards into the Renaissance and beyond, and this is shown in his new album ‘Vestiges'. Jarguna, the Italian sonic alchemist Marco Billi's new release ‘Hanami' shimmers with luminous electronic ambience. Flip-Flap is pleased to announce the series of works chosen by Conrad Schnitzler and John 3:16 nine-track album The Pact, in which the American producer shows an enormous aptitude for combining different sound concepts such as industrial, post-metal, or dark wave. We kick off with ‘Life Sidereal,' which represents Erothyme's journey, under the aegis of Blue Tech, into the world of analogue and modular synthesis. In the waning days of late autumn, the sun falls ever lower in the sky, the air becomes crisp as the restless wind strips the leaves from the trees, and the nights grow quiet, as the last lovelorn crickets of the season succumb to the cold. The autumn harvest brings a bounty of fruits and flowers, grains and nuts, in a rainbow of complex colors from bright orange pumpkins to deep purple cranberries. The sounds of the season are darker, slower, deeper — a somber interlude before the bright celebrations of the holiday season. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, an ambient-electronic journey for late autumn, on a program called SHADES AND SHADOWS. Music is by ASCENDENT, MARCONI UNION, STEVE ROACH, RUDY ADRIAN, APERUS, MILES RICHMOND & PETER GRENADER, IAN BODDY, and JUTA TAKAHASHI. Ron Boots is among the most engaging Electronic Musicians ever exporting music from The Netherlands. Since the late 1980s, his work has been rooted in the Berlin School yet reaches far beyond the basic fundamentals of the genre. Combining elements of Contemporary Instrumental, Film Soundtracks and Spacemusic, Boots' music moves easily between the mainstream and the cosmic. In 1995, together with Kees Aerts, Ron founded the well-respected Groove Unlimited label. This was initially a vehicle for Ron and Kees to release their own solo albums and collaborations, such as BAH. The label has continued to this day, with an ever-growing worldwide roster of Electronic artists. Kees left Groove in 2011, leaving Ron to continue alone, but they parted as friends. Many kinds of music are associated with one of the seasons, but ambient and environmental electronic music? — more than most. The music has to BE the season: to reflect, inhabit, and merge with the space and feeling of the seasonal environment. And when it comes to summer ambient, the pace gets slower, the harmonies get warmer, and the ethereal sounds inspire weightless floating. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, we float peacefully through the star fields on the warm breezes of a summer night, on a program called SUMMER STARS. Music is by ERIK WØLLO, SUFJAN STEVENS, STEVE ROACH, RUDY ADRIAN, and AMONGST MYSELVES. [ view playlist ] [ view Flickr image gallery ] [ play 30 second MP3 promo ]
Spring has long been the most unpredictable of seasons—these days, more than ever. This week we had a bit of January in May here in Northern California; next week it'll be like high summer. Everything is changing, and the wind rushes in every direction in a futile effort at equilibrium. The seasonal winds inspire ambient musicians to create an airy, open music with flutes and electronics, and we can ride the sound currents like birds in search of new frontiers. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, an airy, windy, floating journey for spring, on a program called VERNAL FLIGHT. Music is by PETE KUZMA, BYRON METCALF, MICHAEL BRANT DeMARIA, COYOTE OLDMAN, TOM MOORE & SHERRY FINZER, LARKIN, PAUL AVGERINOS, STEPHEN PEPPOS, and RUDY ADRIAN. Over the last 75 years, composers were gradually freed from creating music with notes on paper, and the limitations of acoustically generated sounds. Slowly at first, then in a rush of innovation in the 20th century, they were given the tools to create music directly from recorded and electronically generated sounds. The electronic studio itself became the master instrument, and imagination was unbound. It's hard to overstate how revolutionary this was. It led to a much expanded palette of musical sounds, an explosion of popular electronic dance music, and immersive music with a focus on imagery, ambience, and virtual travel in sonic space. Composers became "sound designers," and listeners became sonic cosmonauts. Environmental sounds captured by high quality portable recorders lent a new psychological dimension to music, making us more aware of the natural ambient sounds around us. We hope you’re doing OK! Here’s a show fully dedicated to our planet: the one and only home place in need of recovery … still in 'Lockdown' situation we wonder: would it be a good thing to go ‘back to normal’ ? How ‘normal’ was it exactly? Air quality is improving world-wide as we speak … walking and doing exercises comes with more oxygen these days. And oxygen as we know has the power to heal and keep us in good condition. So why would we choose to go back to times before the virus outbreak? When we really pushed the limits beyond comprehension? EARTH 2.0 is focussing on all aspects of a healthier life: less pollution, less traffic, less stress, less ‘Economy First’ . Health First! Positive Energy! Breathing fresh air and Feeling Happy! A Healthy Life requires a Healthy Environment. The soundtrack is provided by Applefish, FluXus, Eguana, Nicholas Gunn, Blue Is Nine, Arctubulae, AES Dana, Off Land, Michael Brückner, Rudy Adrian. Fantastic music that is mixed for you to enjoy for a long long time. There’s a Nonstop Edition as well, check the site for more info / Premium membership. Thank you for supporting our station. Have a wonderful listening experience! // ambientzone //

Welcome to Show 22 in Season 11. Today is November 22. This is not a coincidence. Haha! We have some super cool releases in this show! Super Spacemusic. Setup your systems, switch on the hi, mid, low and sub for the best results. Some of the tracks contain sounds and effects you will not hear using ‘regular’ earbuds or headsets. As always: the full frequency spectrum is present during a mix that happened couple of days ago … Today is also the Official Release date for the NEW David Helpling album "RUNE" and we have it here on the show! It's a heart warming piece of art - "the new Ambient Era, TC says" - that you need to hear yourself ... :=) Musical contributions by : Another Fine Day, Off Land, Jonn Serrie, David Helpling, Confluent Phase, Erik Seifert, Rudy Adrian. We also play a cassette from 1994, this time it’s the ‘Dedicated’ label bringing us Global Communication. Hear that Maxell tape noise! Lovely! Now that temperatures have gone back to normal values in CY, we can breathe and actually DO stuff we want to do without changing shirts 3 times a day and drinking 4 liters of liquids within couple of hours. Cyprus in November means: preparation of your gas heater and finding sweaters and socks before the real chilly days enter the house next month … Wonderful times ahead for sure :) Myself, I am preparing for my flight to The Netherlands where I will meet family, friends and see a lot of ‘flat’ land and ‘traffic’ I suppose. I’m looking forward to a good time, charge my battery and eat a lot of good Dutch food! Oh … and Roger will take care of the December show again, I love that man! Have a wonderful Listening Experience! ~TC
Listen … feel …. enjoy! Thanks to labels and artists we found an enormous amount of high quality ambient music. The latest new release “Woodlands” by Rudy Adrian for example (Spotted Peccary Music) …. wow! Once you hit ‘play’ you can’t stop listening! Definitely part of our personal Ambient Top 10 for 2019. But there’s more: Ishq, Jarguna, Kelly David, Sean Curtis Patrick, Jonn Serrie, Ludvig Cimbrelius, they all are now part of our Journey called ‘Thermosphere’. Watch that temperature folks! In Cyprus still 25C / 77F on the display during the day and we call this Winter for sure. How’s your location at the moment? Tune in for a great new episode and hear about a Special Edition as we are getting closer to the year 2020 …
Today's show guides you through the ambient/electronic/acoustic landscape ....seen from a distance: "Sketches" is about images, sounds, memories and emotions. Music as a way of illustrating the way we evolve. Who are we? Where are we? What's the next step about? Music by Niklas Paschburg, Brambles, Poppy Ackroyd, Jon Hopkins, Rudy Adrian, Max Richter, Jonn Serrie, Martin Nonstatic, Valentin Stip, Alpha Wave Movement. Sometimes light, sometimes a bit more dark ... but never boring! Go listen and get the original tracks by clicking the links in the tracklist. Thanks for supporting the artists! All content is compiled, arranged, mixed, recorded and finalized by *TC* for the Ambient Zone.
Here is another fantastic mix curated by Paul Asbury Seaman. His earlier mixes are "Floating Through Moonlight" and "The Memory of Trains." I'm listening to it as I type this and it's another wonderful collection. Here's what Paul has to say about it: “I'm no fan of winter, but I love the visual patterns created by ice. And I've always loved the bell-like sounds sometimes used in electronic/ambient music and featured prominently in the works of Rudy Adrian. The idea for this mix started with a rather dark compilation by Hypnos Records called Message from a Subatomic World, from which I got the title track here, and ended with my recent (and joyous) discovery of a stunning artist working with gamelan bells, Gordon Pigeon, which opens this set. The full piece from his album Acoustic Fireflies is more than 30 minutes long.” Thanks Paul! Cheers!
