We have a great RV Love Story to share in Episode 434 of the RV Podcast about a couple of senior snowbirds, both widowed, who went from solo travelers to soul mates. Plus we have lots of RV News, travel planning tips and RV Lifestyle questions. For the video version, click the player below to watch. For an audio version, it's available on iTunes and all the podcast apps or through the audio player below. An RV Love Story - Amy and Thomas Amy and Thomas Thomas is a widower who lost his wife of 52 years in December 2019. Amy is a widow who lost her husband of 18 years in August 2018. Both met at the Blueway RV Village in Ft. Myers, FL (formerly called Shady Acres) in January 2021. Amy was outside her rig one night when Thomas walked by, walking his dog. They talked. He came back the next day, also walking his dog, they talked some more, and the rest- is history! They married on May 26, 2022 - their wedding cake was decorated with an RV. And they bought an RV together in September 2022 and are snowbirds, currently in the very RV park where they met, as we speak. Neither was looking for love. Both say to all the other solo travelers out there, be open to meeting new people. You never know where it may lead. Need more ways to bring romance to your life? How to Keep the Romance Alive While RVing (7 Helpful Tips) Rekindle the Flame with these 10 Romantic Road Trips for RVing Couples We hope you enjoyed the RV Love Story. New Travel Tech - The Best RV Trip Planning Tool We've Found The New Travel Tech segment of the RV Podcast, drawn from the pages of NewTravelTech.com, our sister blog celebrating the many ways technology enhances the travel experience. This is the time of year many are planning RV trips for the coming season and the tech tool we use and rely on is called the RV Life Trip Wizard. Built specifically for RVers, this visual RV trip planner has the most advanced features available. It uses distance rings to show exactly where you'll be at the end of your driving day to choose the ideal stop. It customizes RV-safe routes to the height & weight of your RV. Avoid low clearances, steep grades, weight limits, and propane restrictions. To get it, you have to join RV Life Pro, where you will find it is one of the tools that make it easy for you to discover, plan, go, and share your RV trips. The 4-in-1 membership includes: RV LIFE Trip Wizard - This is our favorite planning tool. RV LIFE Campground Reviews. We feel this really lets us check out the places we stay ahead of time so there are no surprises. RV LIFE App (RV-Safe GPS). It makes sure you're not taking unfriendly RV roads. RV LIFE Maintenance Tracker. It's a great resource for making sure your RV is in tip-top travel ready shape. Just to be clear, you get all four of these tools in one with an RV LIFE Pro membership for what we think is a very reasonable price. I think most users would agree the price is actually cheap, considering the value it brings. RV Life Pro only costs $59 per year if you purchase the annual membership (less than $5 per month). The annual membership also comes with a 7-day free trial. The monthly subscription is $19.99 per month and does not include a 7-day free trial. BUT NOTE the discount code below! In all honesty, just one of these tools is easily worth $5 per month, let alone all four combined. That is why I don't hesitate to say that RV LIFE Pro is worth the money for most RVers. And this is important – if you want to enjoy using all the RV Life Pro tools just add this coupon code: RVLIFESTYLE which gives you 25% off the price! If you already use RV Life Pro – your cost is already low and locked in. Want more RV trip planning ideas? "So far I see no evidence of an HOA, but it isn't a big subdivision. So what do I do?" Steven Jack Butala: This comes up. May I? Jill DeWit: Okay. Steven Jack Butala: No, go ahead. Jill DeWit: No, that's fine. No, no go ahead. Steven Jack Butala: What do you do? Jill DeWit: So here's what I do. This does come up because you're not sure. Usually if there's a name like Shady Acres. All right. Shady Acres lot 23. All right. I might need to look into that just to make sure versus just the legal description and no thing like that, like lot, block, unit kind of thing. Even those could be, but usually you'll have a little indication. It's something you always want to check no matter what anyway. So how I check is there's three ways. I do my own Google digging. My Google search for Shady Acres HOA, POA, homeowner association, property owner association. See if everything pops up. Okay. Nothing there. Okay, good. This is good news. Then I go to phase two, which is... This takes a few minutes by the way. Phase two is I'm going to go out and look for property for sale or sold in that area and see if there was an HOA like, "Oh look, here's a property in the same subdivision that sold 18 months ago," I'm going to be looking at the comp anyway, cause I'm checking it out and then I'm going to go through the description and see, "Oh look, it was an agent." And I'll look through and see, is there an HOA or POA the box? There's some information in there. Often that's where I find it, by the way is doing a little recon to somebody else's posting and then I've got it like, "Okay, noted. There it is." And then the third one, it's always an easy one too.

"Ana Goñi-Lessan is a member of the Houston Chronicle’s editorial board. She recently visited the neighborhood of Third Ward there in Houston where George Floyd grew up and spoke with some of his childhood friends. She tells us about that and the reaction of the neighborhood and the city more generally to Floyd’s murder and the resulting protests and police violence. Also, Charles Hinshaw and J. McVay discuss the new movie, ‘Da 5 Bloods,’ directed by Spike Lee and starring Delroy Lindo, Jonathan Majors, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, and Isiah Whitlock Jr. -- out now on Netflix. We’ll also revisit songs by Courtney Barnett and Shilpa Ray, from past sessions of BTR Live Studio, as Maia Macdonald says goodbye after hosting that podcast for 14 years. It’s our 100th episode and we’re day drinking! Huzzah! It’s an incredible week for Asha, not necessarily in a good way, and poor Dev has come to realization that he’s not raising no teenagers in the 1980s. Another three episodes in and we still have no clue what the connection is between Scott and Johnny, and it doesn’t look like we’re about to find out as Johnny goes off to burden Eva with his presence for the next few weeks. The Shady Acres storyline drags itself to an unsatisfying conclusion and Ken drags himself unsatisfactorily back to number one while poor Eccles is memorialized through the medium of art. Sally’s got her heart set on a £2,000 wedding dress that Tim seems to think can be covered by the sale of a small horse. Yasmeen falls out with Cathy and Tim’s Dad is determined to get his hole. Nina calls kids Stranger Things.
The revolving door on Chesney’s house is put to good use again as Bernie comes back. Did she leave last week? We can’t remember. Liz takes a leaf from Kate’s playbook and pisses all over Gemma’s confidentiality by bursting into Dr Gaddas’s office. The fallout from last week’s protest has some unexpected consequences as Arthur reveals a history of civil disobedience, and a bit of work falls into Imran’s lap that Toyah is not happy about, then a bit of Toyah falls into Imran’s lap that he’s very happy about. It’s Fencing Week at Shady Acres, meaning a clash of egos and hair spray as Ken faces off with Charles while Norris comes across some very interesting details on the running of the retirement community. Someone from Johnny’s past scares him off, and then back on to, the lavvy and makes him want to run to France. Asha’s latest example of bad decision-making goes viral and the inexplicably-named Pastel Blue makes an unwelcome return. Cerberus had a hydrotherapy appointment but, due to financial constraints, will be thrown in the canal in future. Cathy has pitta bread ears. Oliver loves Steve.
Somehow, despite having half the content to talk about, we still manage to get ninety minutes about this week’s episodes of Corrie. David’s approximately halfway along the up curve of his self-destructive behavior, looking for a square go with anyone he bumps into. Emma’s mistrust of Seb and Alina forces her to make a decision on her current living arrangements. Chesney’s willful ignorance of Gemma’s post natal depression continues while Bernie does her best for her daughter and Cathy gets the credit. Ken’s suspicions of Charles’s running of Shady Acres grow. Yasmeen’s willingness to take Tim’s Dad’s crap appears to have reached its maximum, and it only took a fake heart attack, a password, and Voggle Mail’s handy search function to get there. Gail runs in and then out of Roys Rolls. Steve lets Tracy go outside with a bunch of white in her hair. Tim doesn’t cut off his thumb. Lily fakes her own disappearance.
Alya puts her Voggling fingers to good work as she finds some shadiness in Tim’s Dad’s past, while Tim’s Dad has more baths that Joseph. A trip to the vet give Evelyn more than an eye-watering bill as she bumps into someone she used to step out with in years gone by. Ken runs into Norris, a fellow resident at Shady Acres, but Norris paints a very bleak picture of life in the retirement home. The writers seem determined to make Emma a doormat for Seb for the second time as he and Alina deny they still have feelings for each other. Michael annoys Grace. Neither David nor Gail work at the factory, both hang out at the factory, and now one of them works at the factory. Poor Gemma’s struggles with the quads continues, despite Bernie’s best efforts, and her horrible friends worst. We learn more about Chesney’s personal hygiene regime than we absolutely needed. Shona’s magazine subscriptions are up for renewal. Hope wants to stuff Cerberus.
Another week of departures on Corrie as Ali realizes that his hair still isn’t quite short enough for future storylines and he heads off to find a barber who can finish the job. James is outed and then manages to in himself again. Roy and Nina continue to be delightful, with Roy telling his bat people to go “have fun” with themselves after they disparage Nina’s clothing choices, and then LASAGNA is consumed. Eccles explains to Ken why a move to Shady Acres may be for the best. Gemma has some horrible friends and an absentee mother. Toyah has transferrable skills. Alya is SO ON TO TIM’S DAD IT’S ALL GOING TO GO DOWN OH YEAH!!!1!!one!!

Fragrance in the garden... The most fragrant blossoms include: Cheddar pinks (a member of the carnation family) Lavender Peony Gardenia Honeysuckle Hyacinth Lilac Mock Orange Daphne Bee balm Brevities #OTD On this day, in 1805, Meriwether Lewis was just one day away from reaching the Great Falls of Missouri. He wrote his own brief description of a species that was previously unknown to science. He wrote, "The narrow leafed cottonwood grows here in common with the other species of the same tree with a broad leaf." Wonder if he saw all the cottonwood seeds floating through the air... #OTD It was a little over 200 years ago today, in 1817, that a forest ranger, named Karl Freiherr von Drais, invented the first bicycle. #OTD And it's the anniversary of the death day of Edward Newman who was an English entomologist, botanist, and writer. Newman wrote, An Illustrated Natural History of the British MothsIn 1869. He also enjoyed writing poetry. Just as the butterfly, child of an hour, Flutters about in the light of the sun, Wandering wayward from flower to flower, Sipping the honey from all, one by one; So does the fanciful verse I've created Love amongst the experts in Science to roam, Drinking their spirit without being sated, Bringing the sweets of their intellect home. #OTD It was on this day, in 1948, that the Michigan Botanical Club adopted its name. It wasn't agreed upon very easily. The Board of Directors and the executive committee couldn't agree. They decided to hold a vote. The choices included: The Michigan Association for Native Plants Protection The Michigan Wildflower Association The Michigan Native Plant Society The Michigan Botanical Club Although the rest of the state voted unanimously for the Michigan Botanical Club, the strong-willed southeastern chapter had taken a poll and they wanted the name The Michigan Wildflower Association. The matter was finally settled when the general membership voted. It's been The Michigan Botanical Club ever since. #OTD And it was on this day in 1918 that the botanist Frank Nicholas Meyer was buried in Shanghai. Six days later, his family, back home in the Netherlands, learned of his death. At the beginning of June, Meyer had traveled to Shanghai by way of Japanese riverboat on the Yangtze River. He was last seen leaving his cabin on the evening of June 1; then he simply disappeared. His body was found in the river four days later. Meyer was just 43 years old when he either fell over board or was murdered. In either case, his legacy continues; not only in the plants he introduced (like the Meyer Lemon), but also, in the magnificent photographs that he took in China. Unearthed Words Here are some short sayings about June: "If a June night could talk, it would probably boast it invented romance." - Bern Williams "Spring being a tough act to follow, God created June." - Al Bernstein "What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade." - Gertrude Jekyll, On Gardening "June is bustin' out all over." - Oscar Hammerstein II, 1945 Today's book recommendation: Sex, Botany, and Empire: The Story of Carl Linnaeus and Joseph Banks by Patricia Fara Fara said, "Banks provided a marvelous illustration of how science and the British Empire grew rich and powerful together." Fara reveals how Enlightenment botany, under the veil of rationality, manifested a drive to conquer, subdue, and deflower―all in the name of British empire. Linnaeus trained his traveling disciples in a double mission―to bring back specimens for the benefit of the Swedish economy and to spread the gospel of Linnaean taxonomy. Based in London at the hub of an international exchange and correspondence network, Banks ensured that Linnaeus's ideas became established throughout the world. As the president of the Royal Society for more than forty years, Banks revolutionized British science, and his innovations placed science at the heart of trade and politics. He made it a policy to collect and control resources not only for the sake of knowledge but also for the advancement of the empire. Although Linnaeus is often celebrated as modern botany's true founder, Banks has had a greater long-term impact. It was Banks who ensured that science and imperialism flourished together, and it was he who first forged the interdependent relationship between scientific inquiry and the state that endures to this day. Today's Garden Chore Add perlite to your soil. Get a big bag of perlite like this oneand add it to the soil in your containers. Seasoned gardeners swear by perlite. If you want soilthat has good aeration, water retention and drainage, try adding, the mineral, perlite. A naturally occurring mineral, perlite has a neutral pH level; so it won't change the soil in that way. It's incredibly porous and it contains little pockets of space inside for air. It can also retain some amount of water while allowing excess to drain away. (I get huge bag of perlite every year from Amazon. I'll put a link to that in today's show notes.) Something Sweet Reviving the little botanic spark in your heart On this day in 2016, the Shady Acres Herb Farm closed in Chaska Minnesota after 39 years. Shady Acres was the placeto go for plants and herbs for almost 4 decades. Shady Acres was owned and operated by Theresa and Jim Mieseler since the mid 70s. Theresa has started out with the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. She been put in charge of the herb garden she recalled telling her boss, "I don't know what an herb is..." Seven years later, Jim and Theresa started Shady Acres Herb Farm with seedlings grown in Dixie cups in their basement. Over time, they cultivated and sold over 600 varieties of culinary herbs and vegetables. Since the closing of their farm, Shady Acres has been moving in a different direction. They're now committed to teaching others about growing plants and they do that in their monthly newsletter. You can check out their website at Shadyacres.com Thanks for listening to the daily gardener, and remember: "For a happy, healthy life, garden every day."

Mysterious text message received from Kyle by Trent at 11:49pm Thursday night, soon after Impact Wrestling went off the air. "Hey Trent, 6-foot 2 blonde, legs from here to Cleveland, we'll do the review later!" FIVE DAYS later and Kyle is MIA so what do we do? Who do we call to help review the December 13th episode of Impact Wrestling? Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome Cousin Bryan to the show who came in last minute to pinch hit for a missing Kyle! Where the hell is he you ask? Keep listening, we had a surprise reveal LIVE on the show! What an episode! We had Ultimate X'ers qualify for the HUGE Ultimate X match at Homecoming and mental patients running rampant all over Las Vegas! What else could happen!? Rich Swann faced Dave Crist to fill the third slot in the Ultimate X and in the process only further confused the whole situation with Willie Mack! What exactly is going on with these two? What is Rich hiding? McKenzie Mitchell's dress proves there is a god. Josh Matthews conducts an in-ring between the top two Knockouts in Impact Wrestling, Tessa Blanchard and Taya Valkyrie hyping their match at Homecoming for the Knockouts Championship and boy oh boy did it get heated fast! To top it all off, Tessa's day got worse when she found out that none other than Impact Wrestling Hall of Famer Gail Kim would be the special guest referee for the match! How much more can this deck be stacked? Trevor Lee took on Trey Miguel for the fourth and final slot in the Ultimate X match at Homecoming in what was this Rascal's official solo debut and did he ever deliver! Hell it was so special, Trevor even shaved his chest for the match! Konnan is pissed. Like really pissed. Su Yung has officially turned Allie darker than the devil's heart and she is hyper-focused on destroying every other knockout in the way. Is Keira Hogan going to be first? Santana took on Fenix in a singles match for a slight little preview of the LAX vs. Lucha Brothers Tag Team Championship match at Homecoming and they delivered like Domino's on a cold December night! If this match was any indication of what we have in store at Homecoming, just throw your money down now. Johnny Impact doesn't seem like he likes Killer Kross does he? The legendary Raven is having a lovely game of chess at the Shady Acres insane asylum when Eli Drake interrupts to talk hardcore wrestling and how much he loves, er..hates it! Did you ever think you'd see Raven facing off with Eli Drake in anything? Chacha Gama Singh is still drooling over the Smokeshow Scarlett Bordeaux. STILL. Brian Cage took on Moose in the main event and these two big behemoths literally shook the ring! When you look up the term "beat the piss out of each other" you'll probably see a photo of this match because they hit hard. Animal vs. Machine! And to top it all off? An escaped Eddie Edwards attacked Moose with a hospital gown on! What is happening!?
