This is the audio version of our breakdown of Mickey 17, where things get cloned, chaotic, and comical. For the full visual experience, catch the video on YouTube. In this episode of the TruVue Podcast, we go deep into Bong Joon Ho's sci-fi mind trip Mickey 17, where being disposable is just part of the job. Starring Robert Pattinson as Mickey Barnes, an “Expendable” in a colonization mission to the icy planet Niflheim, this clone gets brought back to life every time he dies. But what happens when the new version meets the old? Spoiler alert: it's a corporate Kinko's nightmare with identity issues. We break down what it means to be duplicated, discarded, and still expected to perform. From clone ethics to class systems in space, we ask all the wrong questions and make all the right jokes. This ain't just sci-fi—it's about the workplace hustle on intergalactic steroids.
A disposable employee is sent on a human expedition to colonize the ice world Niflheim. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. It's ‘Mickey 17' release day, and Ben is chatting to Director Bong Joon Ho in today's episode to celebrate. Starring Robert Pattinson as an expendable worker on a colonized ice planet, the new film from Korean cinema's modern master sees protagonist Mickey ‘re-printed' over and over again. Frequently killed in his dangerous daily tasks, ‘human printing technology' allows Mickey to be simply reborn, with his memories intact. But when he makes it back to base unexpectedly alive one day, he finds he's already been reprinted—coming face to face with his latest iteration. His girlfriend may be loving it, but the law, upheld by Mark Ruffalo's villainous Marshall, is not. Ben sits down with the ‘Parasite' Oscar winner, and his legendary translator Sharon Choi, to unpack this dark comedy sci-fi satire... to name some of the genres this madcap movie might be. Nobody makes them like Director Bong. He reveals the secret real-life location of his ice-planet (complete with mountains of salt standing in for snow), the challenges of working with two Robert Pattinsons, and his obsession with his comfort-blanket iPad. Check out the ‘Now and Ben' back catalogue for more conversations with cinema's most exciting creative talents, including four-time Oscar winning director of ‘Anora', Sean Baker, ‘Peaky Blinders' writer Steven Knight, and Hollywood royalty Angela Bassett. In return you'll get a whole extra Take 2 alongside Take 1 every week, with bonus reviews, more viewing recommendations from the Good Doctors and whole bonus episodes just for you. And if you're already a Vanguardista, we salute you. In this week's Take we're travelling back into the past and looking to the future with VR. Yes, we made Simon put on a VR headset thingy—and yes, we did laugh at him whilst he wandered blindly around the room thinking he was in 19th century Germany. That's because he was experiencing ‘Trailblazer', a VR experience telling the forgotten story of Bertha Benz, the woman behind the wheel of the world's first automobile in the first road trip ever taken. Simon chats to the voice of Trailblazer, Star-Wars star Daisy Ridely and creator Eloise Singer. They talk about history's forgotten women, Daisy's forgotten BAFTA (surprise!), and whether we'll all be swapping cinema tickets for VR goggles in the future... Plus reviews this week of ‘Twiggy', Sadie Frost's doc about the titular teenage model sensation and 60s icon; ‘One Of Them Days'—a comedy caper starring Keke Palmer and SZA as two broke best friends trying to raise a month's rent after losing it to a deadbeat boyfriend—and Bong Joon Ho's big follow-up to ‘Parasite', ‘Mickey 17'. Starring Robert Pattinson as an ‘expendable' worker in a barren ice colony, Director Bong's latest sci-fi flick sees protagonist Mickey ‘reprinted' over and over again each time he dies—until a duplicate begins to cause trouble. Starring Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, and Paul Dano (who plays The "more-than-sufficiently-creepy" Riddler, this version of Batman brings darkness and ennui, but, like, a different kind of darkness and ennui than the other movies about a wealthy white man who dresses up as a bat to stop crimes and brood about how difficult his life is. When this podcast hits peoples feeds, it's not just a signal, it's a warning... that you better be prepared for a great discussion! Max is back on the pod, and since we are both big fans of the Batman Character we couldn't pass up an opportunity to review the newest addition to the Batman franchise: The Batman! Starring Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader in his early days of wearing the cowl, this murder mystery film noir take on the character is truly unlike anything we have seen from the previous Batman movies. Written and directed by Matt Reeves, and alongside a spectacular all star ensemble cast (Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell, John Turturro, Jeffrey Wright, etc), this film needed an episode dedicated to discussing it fully. We do a 20 minute spoiler free portion in the beginning, and then talk for the next hour about all the spoiler filled goodness. Deep dives into the characters, creating of the film, and breaking down some iconic scenes (Car chases, interrogations, and detective work, oh my!), this episode will do it all for y'all... similar to a masked vigilante in a certain desolate city we all know. (apologies for the poor audio quality from start to 3:00, technical difficulties most likely done by The Riddler... or my web browser)

On Episode 77 of The Film ‘89 Podcast, Neil and Skye give their in-depth and spoiler-filled review of director Matt Reeves' new big screen iteration of one of the comic book world's most famous characters, Batman, or in this case, The Batman. Starring Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, Paul Dano and Andy Serkis, The Batman is garnering considerable acclaim and overwhelmingly positive word of mouth. Now that the dust is starting to settle on this latest big screen outing for The Caped Crusader, will the guys hold it in similar regard and will it be a strong enough film to topple the likes of Tim Burton's Batman (1989) and Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy as many people's favourite version of Batman on film?

Riddle me this, Riddle me that...who wants a reboot of the bat? This week's episode brings us to the Matt Reeves directed, The Batman.
