Director Azazel Jacobs discusses his new film, His Three Daughters, with fellow Director David Zellner in a Q&A at the DGA theater in Los Angeles. In the conversation, he discusses how his personal experiences informed the film, working with his cast to capture performances against their usual types, and shooting scenes in the same order as they happen in the film to allow the performances to evolve with the story. The film tells the story of Katie, Christina and Rachel, who reunite for the first time in many years at their dying father's New York City apartment. Over the course of three claustrophobic days, the sisters unearth past grievances, traumas and hang-ups as they learn to coexist before their father's departure. MICHELLE ZELLNER IS NOTING THE CONNECTION BETWEEN MIND AND BODY With her latest blog post on the subject here. May is Mental Health Awareness AND Sports and Physical Activity Month and those things go together in a big way. She joins us at 2:30 to talk about it all.
Ever wondered what happens when you throw Ryan Gosling, Taylor Swift, and KISS into a cinematic cocktail shaker? The result is "The Fall Guy," a film that took us by surprise with its electrifying fusion of action, romance, and a heartfelt nod to the stunt community. We peel back the curtain on the movie's slow burn beginnings, its playful jab at the industry, and how it ultimately lands a backflip with a rousing third act. Plus, we can't help but marvel at Gosling's metamorphosis from Hollywood heartthrob to a bona fide action-comedy virtuoso – complete with laugh-out-loud moments and real-life stunt prowess.Hold onto your Bigfoot trackers as we switch gears and step into the silent narrative of "Sasquatch's Sunset," a film that speaks volumes without uttering a single word. The Zellner brothers breathe life into a family of Sasquatches, offering up a blend of humor and humanity that provokes a lively debate on the existence of these legendary creatures. We explore the rich tapestry of non-verbal storytelling and how it creates a fascinating lens through which to view our own society. And, in a twist no one saw coming, we examine how Jesse Eisenberg's distinctive career path intersects with this most unconventional family saga.Wrapping up with a genre-spanning discussion that's as diverse as our film tastes, we speculate on a potential "Kick-Ass" reboot, express hopes for a Chris Farley biopic that honors his legacy, and share our candid thoughts on the superhero film landscape. From the Avengers' next moves to the refreshing direction of DC films, and even a nod to Daniel Radcliffe's turn as 'Weird Al' Yankovic, we cover the gamut of movie magic. So, grab your popcorn and settle in for an episode that's as unpredictable as it is entertaining.https://msha.ke/thisseatstaken

Grunt and scratch yourself vigorously….a new episode has dawned! From the second Willden-beast mentioned this film on our Second Annual Sundance episode and especially after the first red band trailer went wild, the hosts of the show have been anticipating the release of the Zellner brothers' “Sasquatch Sunset”. (Editor's note: This is Beanie…according to my hooman only one of you was looking forward to this.) Crude and quite “out there”, it's a year in the life of a family of Sasquatch (“Bigfoot” if you will) with no dialogue. Arty, indie fare with serious actors ape-ing their hearts out or one note vulgarity deserving of the $2 digital download sale bin? Cobb a “sasquatch” and have a listen. But first, Cupcake reviews a new action flick from a “post-Madonna”, and Emcee talks a big sports ball event. Stick around for Q&A when the hosts talk music, invisibility, food, and directors. It opens Friday in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago before going wider on April 26. Click here to find out more: https://www.sonyclassics.com/film/wegrownnow/ Then we discuss "Sasquatch Sunset," the latest ambitious project from the filmmaking Zellner brothers, David and Nathan. Jesse Eisenberg and Riley Keough lead a pack of Bigfoots (or is it Bigfeet?) as they traipse through the forest. This extremely languid dramedy is daring and dialogue-free. It's currently in a few cities before going nationwide this Friday. I got to sit down with the minds behind the Sasquatch Sunset film, David and Nathan Zellner. We discussed thor approach to the making of the movie, as well as the how and why. The Zellner brothers, bring us the whimsical and surreal American comedy "Sasquatch Sunset." Written by David and featuring a stellar cast including Riley Keough, Jesse Eisenberg, Christophe Zajac-Denek, and Nathan Zellner himself, the film whimsically follows the adventures of a Sasquatch family over the course of a year. With the talented Ari Aster as an executive producer under Square Peg, the film made its debut at the prestigious 2024 Sundance Film Festival on January 19. In 2016-17, while working for the USA TODAY NETWORK's Wisconsin Investigative Team, author John Ferak wrote dozens of articles examining the murder case against Steven Avery, who had already beaten one wrongful conviction only to be charged again with the murder of Teresa Halbach in 2005. This case captured global attention through the Netflix documentary "Making A Murderer."In this anniversary edition of WRECKING CREW: Demolishing the Case Against Steven Avery, Ferak not only lays out in meticulous detail the post-conviction strategy of Kathleen Zellner, the high-profile, high-octane lawyer fighting to free Avery but also includes a new "Five Years Later" section. This update provides fresh insights and developments in Avery's ongoing legal battle.Additionally, this special edition features an exclusive epilogue: a November 2023 interview with Steven Avery. For this book, Zellner, arguably America's most successful wrongful conviction attorney, granted Ferak unprecedented access to the exhaustive pro bono efforts she and her small suburban Chicago law firm have invested in a man she believes to be wrongfully ensnared by Manitowoc County's unscrupulous justice system. It is a thrill and honor to have John Ferak return to the show with this amazing update! Updated 5th Anniversary Edition Including Exclusive Interview with Steve Avery In 2016-17, while working for the USA TODAY NETWORK's Wisconsin Investigative Team, author John Ferak wrote dozens of articles examining the murder case against Steven Avery, who had already beaten one wrongful conviction only to be charged again with the murder of Teresa Halbach in 2005. This anniversary edition offers new revelations and a comprehensive look at a case that continues to stir public debate and demand justice. "John Ferak is an investigative journalist who is trying to figure out who committed the murder. He takes all of my evidence, expert opinions and theories and really examines them in detail. [Making a Murderer] touched on some of my investigation and expert experiments but not in as much detail as the book. The series explores many collateral matters, while the book zeroes-in on suspects and motives for the murder, which was not a focal point in the series.” —Attorney Kathleen Zellner, interview with Newsweek Magazine "Whatever you thought you believed about this infamous case, get ready to change your mind or be more convinced than ever. … Fascinating." —New York Times bestselling author Steve Jackson "If you're planning to binge-watch Making a Murderer 2 over the holidays, order John Ferak's new book Wrecking Crew, too.
