Commercially known for her work directing Wayne’s World, Spheeris got her start studying at UCLA and collaborating with comedians Richard Pryor and Albert Brooks on short films in the 1970s. After launching the first music video production company in Los Angeles, she turned her camera to the LA punk scene from 1981 to 1998 for what would become the iconic Decline trilogy. The Decline films were only recently made available for home viewing in 2015 thanks to an incredible restoration by Shout! FactoryCheck out the AJMS Patreon! PATREON.COM/AVERAGEJOESHOW

She made the jump to the director’s chair with 1971’s A NEW LEAF. May went on to direct three more films: THE HEARTBREAK KID (1972), MIKEY AND NICKY (1976), and ISHTAR (1987). We discuss all four films in this week’s episode! Check out our Patreon PATREON.COM/AVERAGEJOESHOW
