Their investigation into a young woman's suspicious death spirals into a violent clash with drug traffickers and the psychotic Mr. Joshua (Gary Busey).Lethal Weapon is full of heart, which is what you want in a Christmas movie. Riggs who is spiraling out of control from grief and Murtaugh, a grounded family man, form a bond that is convincing from start to finish. Also written by Shane Black, Hollywood's king of Christmas action movies and directed by Richard Donner, Lethal Weapon blends holiday themes with explosive action, dark humor, and iconic one-liners. With Jose from Watch Skip Plus bringing his signature energy, Troy suffering existential dread, and Brad unleashing a barrage of feline puns, this episode promises to be a riot. Oz takes the vegetative Francis to a new penthouse suite, where he dances with Eve dressed as Francis, as the Bat-Signal shines in the sky. Jace and Rocky chat about the DC Comics for the week of June 18, 2024. Nightwing continues its final arc with the current creative team as Dick Grayson finds himself on the wrong side of the law. Jimmy OIsen may not be the best choice to save the world but you work with what you have in World's Finest and we get some fallout from Zur En-Arrh's action in Batman #149. We also have another possible explanation for the cause of Selina Kyle's nine lives that is more scientific than spiritual. The link between Wonder Woman and Cheetah is explored in Wonder Woman #10, though maybe not as deeply as it could or should be and Constantine gets very meta in his search for the sand of Morpheeus. Bane, a former member of the League of Shadows, leads an attack on a CIA plane over Uzbekistan to abduct nuclear physicist Dr. Leonid Pavel and fakes Pavel's death in the crash. Meanwhile, eight years after the death of Gotham City District Attorney Harvey Dent[a], organized crime has been eradicated in Gotham by legislation, the Dent Act, giving expanded powers to the police. James Gordon, police commissioner, has kept Dent's killing spree a secret and allowed the blame for his crimes to fall on Batman. Bruce Wayne, still mourning the death of Rachel Dawes, has become a recluse, and Wayne Enterprises has stagnated. Bane enlists businessman John Daggett to buy Bruce's fingerprints. Cat burglar Selina Kyle steals Bruce's prints from Wayne Manor for Daggett, but he double-crosses her and she alerts the police, who pursue Bane and Daggett's henchmen into the sewers while Kyle flees. The henchmen capture Gordon and take him to Bane, but he escapes and is found by Officer John Blake, an orphan who has deduced Bruce's secret identity and persuades him to resume his vigilantism. Bane attacks the Gotham Stock Exchange and uses Bruce's fingerprints to verify a series of fraudulent transactions, leaving Bruce bankrupt. Batman resurfaces to pursue Bane's henchmen. Afraid Bruce will get himself killed fighting Bane, his butler, Alfred Pennyworth, resigns in the hope of saving him after admitting to burning a letter that Rachel left for him saying she was going to marry Dent. Bane expands his operations and kills Daggett while Bruce and Wayne Enterprises's new CEO, Miranda Tate, become lovers. Kyle agrees to take Batman to Bane but instead leads him into a trap under Wayne Tower. Bane gloats that he intends to fulfill the mission started by Ra's al Ghul[b] to destroy Gotham City before he cripples Batman during combat. He then takes Bruce to an ancient underground prison in the Middle East, where Bruce learns that Ra's al Ghul's child was born and raised in the prison but had a protector that aided the child in escaping, thought to be impossible. Back in Gotham, Kyle is arrested by Blake during an attempt to flee the country before Bane traps the police forces in the sewers, destroys all but one bridge surrounding the city, kills Mayor Anthony Garcia, forces Pavel to convert a fusion reactor core into a decaying neutron bomb before killing him, exposes Dent's crimes to the city (thus undermining the legal system), releases the prisoners of Blackgate Penitentiary, takes over the city, and has Gotham's elite exiled and killed in proletarian kangaroo courts presided over by Jonathan Crane. Five months later, Bruce makes his escape and returns to Gotham. He and Kyle work together to free the police, and clash with Bane's army in the streets. During the battle, Batman overpowers Bane, but Tate stabs Batman in the abdomen, revealing herself to be Talia al Ghul, Ra's al Ghul's child. With Gordon blocking the signal, Talia leaves to find the bomb to detonate it manually. Kyle returns, kills Bane and helps Batman pursue Talia, hoping to bring the bomb back to the reactor chamber where it can be stabilized. Talia's truck crashes, but she remotely floods and destroys the reactor chamber before dying. With no way to stop the detonation, Batman, after revealing his identity to Gordon, uses his aerial craft, the Bat, to haul the bomb far over the bay, where it safely explodes. In the aftermath, Batman is presumed dead and hailed as a hero. Wayne Manor becomes an orphanage, and Bruce's estate is left to Alfred. Gordon finds the Bat Signal repaired, while Lucius Fox discovers that Bruce had fixed the Bat's malfunctioning auto-pilot. In Florence, Italy, Alfred discovers that Bruce is alive and has begun a romantic relationship with Kyle, and they happily acknowledge each other before parting ways. Blake, whose legal first name is revealed as Robin, resigns from the GCPD and receives a package leading him to the Batcave.

It was written by Waters, from a script by Sam Hamm, and then unsatisfactorily finished off by a real Normie named Wesley Strick. We consider it a Catwoman movie with 3 male villains hellbent on stopping Selina Kyle from embracing her true nature. We begin our coverage of the Ed Brubaker / Darwyn Cooke era of Catwoman comics. We start with Trail of the Catwoman - written by Brubaker, drawn by Cooke.. Originally published in 2001 as a backup feature in Detective Comics, it's now collected with the solo Catwoman series that Brubaker and Cooke worked on. The plot of the story is that hard boiled private eye Slam Bradley (himself an actual golden age character from the pre-Batman Detective Comics) as he tries to determine if Selina Kyle is really dead (she is not). But the effect of the story is to re-purpose Catwoman as a crime noir action star. It's a beautiful, gripping, fun story - a must read! Eight years after the Joker's reign of chaos, Batman is coerced out of exile with the assistance of the mysterious Selina Kyle in order to defend Gotham City from the vicious guerrilla terrorist Bane. The Dark Knight Rises is episode 63 of Superhero Century, the podcast where we watch every superhero movie of the 21st Century in chronological order.
C is for...CATWOMAN! Catwoman is much more than a feline-themed criminal in a cat-suit. Despite sexy portrayals by Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, Anne Hathaway, Camren Bicondova, or Zoë Kravitz would have you believe, Selina Kyle, AKA Catwoman has the potential to be a much more nuanced character in modern comics. Way back back in 2002, now acclaimed crime-fiction writer Ed Brubaker attempted to do just that - redefine a sexual icon into a feminist one - in his seminal run and reboot of Catwoman. Brubaker created a more low-key, street level portrayal of the character, returning to the East End of Gotham, a forgotten, working class part of the city. Paired with a # of artists - including the late Darwyn Cooke, Cameron Stewart, and Mike Allred - ironically also all dudes - who masterfully create a less sexualized version of Selina. She's joined by her best friend Holly, private eye Slam Bradley, and Dr. Leslie Thompkinz to confront the demons of her past and present. But we ALSO decided to read 2022's Catwoman Lonely City - the acclaimed miniseries by Cliff Chiang - which ventures into the not-too-distant future to follow a middle-aged Selina Kyle, as she investigates a conspiracy related to the death of Batman some 10 years prior. Almost all of the Bat-family is gone, and she's left with her wits, and a handful of super-criminal friends and foes, some of whom have infiltrated city hall. both series ask us to re-examine not just how our society defines crime, but who are the people who define what crime is, and what are the circumstances that drive those we deem criminals to choose the life they do. but also, just a romping good time with a lady in a cat suit.

Batman Returns is a 1992 American Superhero film directed by Tim Burton and written by Daniel Waters. The film is a sequel to Burton's wildly successful Batman released in 1989. The plot focuses on the vigilante hero squaring off against corporate tycoon Max Shrek and the deformed crime boss Penguin, all while catching feelings for Selina Kyle and her mysterious alter-ego, Catwoman.
