In this episode, I sit down with Riley Wall... (son of Tony Wall, who many of you will know and who I had the pleasure of working with for many years!) Riley was raised in a stable, godly home, yet he still wrestled with surrendering to Christ until the age of 16. When he finally embraced the Lordship of Jesus he was filled with a profound joy. He and his wife Natalie navigated a unique "hands-off courtship," leading to their marriage during the height of the Covid pandemic—a time that introduced significant strain on both family and church relationships. Riley opens up about the challenges of those years, the bitterness that crept in, and the healing he found through Christ, forgiveness, and community.
This week on the Raw Politics podcast: The hikoi's over, now for a half year of claim and counterclaim, dissent and debate. Plus: NZ speaks out of both sides of its mouth at COP29.Prime Minister Christopher Luxon did not meet the Treaty Principles Bill hikoi crowd, sees “nothing” of merit in the Act-proposed law but the Parliament his Government dominates will spend six months debating a “divisive” measure. That's because he has accepted there needs to be “aeration” of people's views on the Treaty, and his party acceded to Act's pressure to include the Bill in the coalition agreement. So, having made this legislative bed, Luxon will now have to lie in it.Newsroom political editor Laura Walters and co-editor Tim Murphy look at how Luxon has played his cards so far, and how he might withstand an ongoing storm of criticism from Māori and others. For Act's David Seymour, a possible nominee for most effective politician of the year before this latest play, the hearings on his Bill will finish just as he receives his coalition-deal-bauble of becoming Deputy Prime Minister until 2026.While he's successfully grabbed the political ground this year, and will no doubt use the new position to continue pushing his policies and views, is there a risk that Act will repeat the sins of its own past in straying away from economic reform, personal freedoms, minimising the state and ending waste, and be diverted by race and stunts? For our second topic, Laura talks to regular Raw Politics panelist Marc Daalder who is reporting for Newsroom at the COP29 climate summit in Baku, Azerbaijan. He describes the pressures and expectations facing the 60,000 attendees in seeking answers on carbon finance and agreements to hold the world to the Paris targets. And we hear how the New Zealand climate minister Simon Watts has performed, with messages for an external audience that might not fly so easily to the domestic crowd.--------------------This week's recommendations:Tim: A story from Stuff's Tony Wall who was with the Mongrel Mob in Ōpōtiki on the eve of the ban on gang patches and consorting. A rare example of hearing direct from the gangsters on such a policy.Laura: Also crime-related, the NZ Herald's Jared Savage profiled the new police commissioner Richard Chambers and revealed where he'd come from and his path to the top.--------------------Raw Politics will be available every Friday here on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube too.Read more on Newsroom - https://newsroom.co.nz
On September 13th 2021 a ute was found at Kiritehere beach, not far from the small rural community of Marokopa. It belonged to Tom Phillips who, along with his three children Ember, Maverick and Jayda, had not been seen for a couple of days. Three years later the family is still at large, but a recent sighting by pig hunters has reignited police, and public, interest. Stuff's senior journalist Tony Wall has just returned from where Phillips and his kids were spotted. He tells us what it is like out there.

In this interview with Tony Wall, we talk about all things relating to what Noses are, and what is their mission and we dive down the rabbit hole of where all humans come from, and what human injury affects us all. We discuss how human injury plays out in today's world, how we override what's been ingrained in our brains and what humans are missing in their quest to evolve to sustainability. This was an amazing conversation and we definitely went deep. Tune in and if you haven't already, subscribe to the podcast to never miss another episode. Tony Wall is the founder of Noesis, a worldwide education network aimed at enabling humanity to replace the churn of conflict with the gift of clarity. Tune in as Tony shares his own journey through observing human behavior. He also explains how humanity has lost control by way of a process, and the process required to regain control, and a sustainable future for humanity. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for May 11, 2022 is: ramshackle RAM-shak-ul adjective Ramshackle means "in a very bad condition and needing to be repaired" or "carelessly or loosely constructed." // The company was contracted to demolish the ramshackle apartments. // The reviewer of the book said it had a ramshackle plot that was confusing and unbelievable. See the entry > Examples: "Near the Otara town centre in South Auckland, there's a large block of land overgrown with trees and brush and dotted with ramshackle houses and farm sheds." — Tony Wall, The Press (Christchurch, New Zealand), 20 Apr. 2022 Did you know? Ramshackle has nothing to do with rams, nor the act of being rammed, nor shackles. The word is an alteration of ransackled, an obsolete form of the verb ransack, meaning "to search through or plunder." (Ransack comes from Old Norse words meaning "house" and "seek.") A home that has been ransacked has had its contents thrown into disarray, and that image may be what inspired people to start using ramshackle in the first half of the 19th century to describe something that is poorly constructed or in a state of near collapse. Ramshackle in modern use can also be figurative, as in "a ramshackle excuse for the error."

Since 2013 more seafood has been produced globally in aquaculture systems than from wild caught fisheries. The farming of fish at scale has come with costs as well as benefits, and as a relatively young industry, aquaculture has followed a steep learning curve. ffinlo Costain speaks to Tony Wall, the founder of the Fish Vet Group (now PHARMAQ), who helped to put fish sentience on the map. ffinlo asks where aquaculture came from, how it developed, and how the industry can overcome its current challenges? If you or anyone you know has ever cared what color the fringe on the U.S. flag is, you will not want to miss this episode. Yes, by popular request, we once again tackle the wild and wacky world of sovereign citizen loons! First, though, the guys read a listener comment from Tony Wall who actually toured with KISS (!!) and can give us some insight as to Gene Simmons's copyright practices. In the main segment, Andrew walks through Gray v. Texas, a 2009 decision of the Texas Court of Appeals that delightfully debunks a great many "sovereign citizen" claims. Next, the guys answer a question from Revan, who wants to know whether criminal and civil cases wind up in the same courtroom or even in front of the same judge. Finally, we end with an all-new Thomas Takes the Bar Exam Question #38 about the admissibility of prior consistent statements by a witness. Remember that you can play along with #TTTBE by retweeting our episode Tweet along with your guess. We'll release the answer on next Tuesday's episode along with our favorite entry!
