Green Day were in Philadelphia on August 9th for a tour that's celebrating 30 years of 'Dookie' and 20 years of 'American Idiot.' They played both of those albums in their entirety, plus a ton of hits and a few new songs, too (36 in all!).  Backstage at Citizens Bank Park, in an extended conversation with Pierre Robert, Tré Cool talks about Green Day's place in pop culture, from their link to Deadpool & Wolverine to working alongside Mark Hamill in new video for "Corvette Summer." He shares stories of drumming alongside not one, but two Beatles, plus the time he jammed with Willie Nelson: "Willie's asking you to play drums; who cares how high you are?!" Tré also reflected on the way that Green Day's audience has grown up with them, and how the band are feeling better - and closer - than ever before. And it's clear that they love coming back to Philly, as they've been doing faithfully since '93. Take it from Tré: "It's nice to be on America's finest, curated-by-hand rock and roll radio station: WMMR!" Green Day is a punk band from the East Bay in California. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool have been playing music together since 1987. They've sold over 90 million records. They've won four Grammys, including twice for Best Rock Album. They put out their first album in 1990, and their second album, Kerplunk!, in 1991. And then, they moved to a major label and in 1994 they put out their third album, Dookie, which was huge. It helped bring punk into the mainstream. And this month is its 30th anniversary. So for this episode, I talked to Billie Joe Armstrong about the making of one of Green Day's biggest hits of all time: “Basket Case." Coming up, you'll also hear from Rob Cavallo, who produced the album. Plus, you'll hear two different demo versions of “Basket Case,” the first of which is basically a totally different song. Billie Joe Amstrong traces the history of “Basket Case,” from its origins as a cassette recording in a punk basement, all the way to becoming a song that helped define an era of music. Day · One of my Lies · Minority · No pride · Jesus of Suburbia · Give me Novacaine · Brain Stew/Jaided · Deadbeat Holiday · Good Riddance · Revolution Radio

In this episode, I'll be discussing going to the 2002 "Pop Disaster Tour" with co-headliners Green Day and Blink 182 with the openers Jimmy Eat World and Saves The Day. I talk about attending the show and getting on stage with Green Day to play a song with them and somehow walking away with Billie Joe's guitar. The Pop Disaster Tour was a concert tour co-headlined by American rock bands Blink-182 and Green Day. The Pop Disaster Tour was a concert tour co-headlined by American rock bands Blink-182 and Green Day. The two groups, with supporting acts Jimmy Eat World, Kut U Up and Saves the Day, toured for two months across the United States and Canada, mostly in outdoor amphitheatres. The tour was conceived by Blink-182 to echo the famous Monsters of Rock tours; the idea was to have, effectively, a Monsters of Punk tour. The tour, from the band's point of view, had been put together as a show of unity in the face of consistent accusations of rivalry between the two bands, especially in Europe. Instead, Green Day's Tré Cool acknowledged in a Kerrang! interview that they committed to the tour as an opportunity to regain their status at the top of tree, as their spotlight had faded over the years. "We set out to reclaim our throne as the most incredible live punk band from you know who", said Cool. Cool contended that "we heard they were going to quit the tour because they were getting smoked so badly […] We didn't want them to quit the tour. They're good for filling up the seats up front." The 2003 film Riding in Vans with Boys follows the Pop Disaster Tour throughout the U.S from Kut U Up's perspective. DeLonge and Hoppus had the idea for the film, and enlisted Matt Beauchesne, who also worked on their documentary The Urethra Chronicles II: Harder Faster Faster Harder, to direct. It was designed to be "a social experiment that shows exactly what would happen if an average Joe band spent two months with two of the biggest groups in rock." In this episode, I discuss the album "Dookie" by Green Day. We go over the entire history of the album, including the making and production of the record. I also give my thoughts on all of the songs, as well as some fun memories with the record. Green Day is an American rock band formed in the East Bay of California in 1987 by lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist and backing vocalist Mike Dirnt. For much of the band's career, they have been a trio with drummer Tré Cool, who replaced John Kiffmeyer in 1990 before the recording of the band's second studio album, Kerplunk. Dookie is the third studio album and the major label debut by American rock band Green Day, released on February 1, 1994 by Reprise Records. The band's first collaboration with producer Rob Cavallo, it was recorded in late 1993 at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California. Written mostly by front man Billie Joe Armstrong, the album is heavily based around his personal experiences, with themes such as boredom, anxiety, relationships, and sexuality. The album was promoted with five singles: "Longview", "Basket Case", a re-recorded version of "Welcome to Paradise" (originally on their Kerplunk album), "When I Come Around", and the radio-only "She". "All by Myself" is a hidden track performed by drummer Tré Cool. LET'S CONNECT: Kyle's Instagram Kyle's Facebook Email: Kyledevlinfitness@gmail.com
