Num espaço de cowork em Lisboa, há um conjunto de mesas ocupadas por linhas, agulhas e pedaços de tecido com desenhos a preto e branco. À volta, um grupo de pessoas na casa dos 30 e 40 anos tenta aprender a bordar. Cada uma tem um kit já preparado: pano, agulha, linhas. E, ao lado, uma “avó” explica por onde começar, corrige pontos, sugere ideias, elogia progressos. O ritmo é lento. Há chá, há bolachas. E há conversa que rapidamente vai para lá do bordado. O cenário podia pertencer a outra época. Mas não. Este workshop é organizado pela The Manual Break, uma associação criada precisamente com essa ideia: abrir espaço, na rotina, para fazer coisas com as mãos — e, ao mesmo tempo, criar contexto para isso acontecer em grupo. A premissa é simples: parar um pouco, desligar de um dia-a-dia fragmentado, e dedicar tempo a uma actividade manual. Este não é um caso isolado. Nos últimos anos, em Portugal, têm-se multiplicado iniciativas deste género: workshops, encontros informais, cursos, eventos pontuais e até retiros dedicados a práticas como cerâmica, costura, bordado ou carpintaria. Em muitos casos, com listas de espera. Ao mesmo tempo, há sinais de que estas práticas estão a ganhar nova visibilidade. Plataformas como a Etsy têm registado um aumento na procura por produtos têxteis feitos à mão, com o croché e o tricô a surgir como tendências em crescimento, em particular entre públicos mais novos. Mas este fenómeno vai além da estética. Durante grande parte do século XX, estas eram actividades de necessidade: fazia-se roupa, reparavam-se peças, produziam-se objectos para uso quotidiano. Hoje, surgem em contextos muito diferentes — como forma de lazer, de descanso, de expressão criativa. Mas Como Assim? O que leva cada vez mais pessoas a procurar este tipo de actividades? Porque é que surgem agora e por que razão atraem tantas pessoas que cresceram longe destes saberes? E o que é que isto nos diz sobre a forma como estamos a ocupar — ou a tentar recuperar — o nosso tempo livre? Neste episódio, partimos de um destes workshops para tentar perceber o que está por trás deste regresso às coisas feitas com as mãos. E, no caminho, aprendemos a bordar. E a tricotar. In this episode, we are joined by Dr. Judith Frydman to explore proteostasis: the tightly regulated systems that ensure proteins are correctly folded, maintained, and cleared before they become toxic. As these systems degrade with age, misfolded proteins accumulate, cellular signaling falters, and vulnerability to neurodegeneration increases. The discussion centers on why protein folding begins during translation, how molecular chaperones like TRIC preserve cellular integrity, and why aging creates a self-reinforcing cycle of proteostatic failure. We also examine upstream mechanisms—and what restoring proteostasis could mean for future longevity interventions, healthspan preservation, and disease prevention. Farmers have grown yields over the years through improved varieties, nutrition and equipment. An emerging frontier involves automation, including robotics and AI. “We believe automation is going to be a whole revolution in farming,” remarked Adam Stager, founder of TRIC Robotics. “It's really the next big thing to drive efficiency on these farms.”One item TRIC has introduced automated, tractor-scale pest and disease control robotics using UV-C light, that was demonstrated at the recent Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Strawberry Field Day. Also on display at the event was a prototype robotic strawberry harvester from L5 Automation.“We've seen a lot of startups attempt this, and a lot of startups have failed,” said Dan Schneider, L5 Director of Software. “We want to make sure that we solve these problems correctly, so that we can harvest all season long. Then we will worry about making the process faster.”Schneider said they expect to harvest trial beds next year, to refine the technology and scale it up to full commercial harvesting. Stager and Schneider said they hope their emerging technologies  will ultimately have application that extends to other crops, in addition to California strawberry fields.

Elves, humans, and saurians recover from the assault. Scene 8 Scene 9 Scene 10 GM Notes I originally thought the campaign was going to end with a trek across the Bitter Swamp to Mal-Ravanal's fortress for a final showdown there. I was going to ambush the players with drakes along the route. However, as events in our story developed organically, that ending grew less and less likely. I still wanted to bring in drakes, though, and having them attack the saurian allies was the perfect opportunity. I don't feel like I managed to make my drakes quite as intimidating as the ones in the Battle for Wesnoth video game, but I was still glad to give Drake Gliders and Clashers some air time. You also got to hear Tric spout lore about Flamehearts. As for other units from the video game, this combat let us see the pinnacle of saurian fighting prowess, the Flanker, as well as a return of our old friend, the Mudcrawler. Although Salras is not transgender in the same sense as a human in the real world might be, I did talk with the transgender player in our group prior to introducing this topic, just to make sure I handled it in a way we would all be comfortable with. Despite the protein products of tumor suppressors exhibiting drastically different structures and functions, many share a common regulatory mechanism—they are molecular chaperone ‘clients'. Clients of molecular chaperones depend on an intracellular network of chaperones and co-chaperones to maintain stability. Mutations of tumor suppressors that disrupt proper chaperoning prevent the cell from maintaining sufficient protein levels for physiological function. This review discusses the role of the molecular chaperones Hsp70 and Hsp90 in maintaining the stability and functional integrity of tumor suppressors. The contribution of cochaperones prefoldin, HOP, Aha1, p23, FNIP1/2 and Tsc1 as well as the chaperonin TRiC to tumor suppressor stability is also discussed. Genes implicated in renal cell carcinoma development—VHL, TSC1/2, and FLCN—will be used as examples to explore this concept, as well as how pathogenic mutations of tumor suppressors cause disease by disrupting protein chaperoning, maturation, and function.
