In essence, if you don't hold your Bitcoin, you don't own the Bitcoin. Taking ownership of your Bitcoin means having to be disciplined in how you secure that Bitcoin. But again, these are new behaviours to attain, not difficult skills to learn. And they are reinforcing. Self-reliance is what Bitcoin ideology is predicated on. It is part and parcel of becoming a good Bitcoiner. Further, these habits will naturally bleed into other aspects of your life. Becoming a better Bitcoiner is synonymous with becoming a better person.
“With Bitcoin, we're finally free. We're finally free with our money to do whatever we'd like with it…so if a government becomes onerous, and they start to crack down on transactions or crack down on different types of races, religions, etc., you can take your money and you can leave. Dan Held is a widely known educator in the Bitcoin Universe. Formerly the director of growth marking at Kraken, he's now an independent content creator at the Held Report and an advisor to Trust Machines. In today's State of the Nation, we explore a new extremist sub-division of the Bitcoin movement: Bitcoin Fundamentalism. Is there a divide growing in the Bitcoin Community? Why are Dan Held and other Bitcoiners frustrated with this cohort? What is Bitcoin Fundamentalism, and what does it mean for the future direction of the Bitcoin Community? ------
Chris Castig is co-founder of Console, a Web3 Discord with DAO Tooling for decentralized communities. He's a General Manager at Trust Machines and an adjunct professor at Columbia University Business School. Why you should listen Console is designed to be a web3-ready Discord. Discord is currently home to many NFT communities but it is not crypto native, and preyed upon by crypto scammers. Console is built from the bottom up to give the web3 community more control over their personal data with a crypto-native application. Chris says Console is Built on Web3 Principles: Console is decentralized, in the first release identity verification, voting and multisig transactions will be on-chain and decentralized. Moving forward, Console will employ a progressively decentralized approach based on the needs of its communities. Console is open source and secure by design — Users are verified with native smart contracts, not third-party bots. Because identity is stored on the Bitcoin blockchain, you can feel safe knowing that your identity is secured by Bitcoin. And unlike Facebook, Instagram, Discord and nearly every other social media app, Console doesn't own access to your identity, uers do. Console will be community owned via the Console DAO. Console is currently in beta, you can sign up for the waitlist or to get early access for your community. Conversations about web3 and crypto can move so fast that it's hard for newcomers to get a grasp on even the most basic concepts. This isn't an issue with author, teacher, and tech founder Chris Castiglione in the guest's chair. With his background in building successful startups and knack for breaking down key concepts like decentralization, shared ownership, and open source in easy to follow ways, Chris is an invaluable ally to have as we build the future of technology. I sat down with Chris to talk about his company Console DAO, his experience founding tech companies in both web2 and web3, the book he's writing, and the baby steps he thinks everyone new to web3 and crypto would benefit from. - Meet Our Guest Chris is the co-founder of Console DAO, a platform for decentralized communities to build and grow (basically discord for Web3), launching this summer.
