Mark Collett remembers a time when many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians left the province in search of work, including himself. But today, as the CEO of St.John's-based Crosbie Group, he sees a different story unfolding. “Certainly for the first 30 years of my life, I think we were probably hanging our head a little bit low,” he tells Goldy Hyder on the Speaking of Business podcast. “But I think we started to pump our chest out when things really started to move ahead in the oil industry.”Crosbie Group, a fourth-generation family business, plays a central role in the energy, marine and real estate sectors in Canada, the United States and Guyana. Collett has seen firsthand how quickly other countries have moved ahead with energy projects, while those in Canada have stalled. “From 2014 to 2018, there were over $4 billion in commitments to explore offshore Newfoundland and Labrador,” he notes. “Since 2018, there's been just $300 million.”He attributes much of that slowdown to regulatory uncertainty. Despite the challenges, he believes the tide may be turning. “We need to seize the moment, seize the day,” he urges. “We have a very willing sentiment toward the industry right now.”For Collett, the conversation isn't just about energy, it's about Canada's future. “We spend an awful lot of time talking about our potential and tomorrow,” he says. “I'm personally at a place where I want to see things happening and happening now.”
In this deeply insightful episode of Transforming 45, Lisa Boate sits down with Eric Collett, CEO of A Mind For All Seasons, to explore the intersection of brain health, curiosity, and midlife transformation. Together, they unpack how asking better questions leads to deeper understanding, and how honoring emotional intelligence can enhance both personal relationships and professional life. From the lingering impact of COVID-19 to the science behind hormones and cognition, this conversation is a compelling call to embrace curiosity and explore the possibilities of personalized medicine. If you're navigating the complexities of midlife or simply interested in preserving cognitive vitality as you age, this episode is filled with meaningful takeaways.
Are you excited to start your community? Ever wonder what the first year could be like? We had the privilege to speak with Jaclyn Collett, about leading her homeschool co-op for the first time in Alabama! She shares her fears, her setbacks, her triumphs of first-year leader. You don't want to miss this!
Eric Collett is the man who's rewriting the script on brain health and challenging everything we thought we knew about aging. Imagine a world where Alzheimer's isn't an inevitable decline, but a preventable condition. That's not science fiction - that's Eric's mission. A former memory care executive turned brain health revolutionary, Eric went from running a struggling care facility to developing a groundbreaking protocol that's helping people reverse cognitive decline - we're talking about Parkinson's patients doing jumping jacks after being wheelchair-bound, and dementia patients dramatically improving their cognitive scores. With a childhood dream of building flying machines and a professional journey that's taken him from caring for seniors to consulting with NFL athletes, Eric isn't just another health expert - he's a visionary who believes your brain's potential is limited only by your willingness to understand and nurture it. His company, A Mind for All Seasons, isn't just treating symptoms - they're uncovering the root causes of neurological challenges, from dental health to environmental toxins. If you've ever wondered whether cognitive decline is truly inevitable, or if you're ready to take control of your brain's future, this conversation will change everything you think you know about health, aging, and human potential. We’re super excited to bring you this week’s episode with Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist, Simone Mangelsdorf-Collett (she/her). We chat with Simone about Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) – or, as Simone puts it “the most common disorder you’ve never heard of”. Simone specialises in FND, neurodegenerative syndromes, and movement disorders, and practices out of Yarra City Psychology in Richmond, Melbourne. She is experienced in both ends of patient care, including assessment and diagnosis and rehabilitation and intervention. If you’ve been wondering about FND, this episode is for you! We cover: What is Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), and how does FND differ from other neurological disorders (like epilepsy, stroke, Parkinson’s etc.) What does the term ‘functional’ mean, in this context? The historical context of FND and how our understanding of this condition has evolved over time. Some of the currently known mechanisms behind FND, including predictive coding theory. Some common vulnerabilities and triggers for FND. The overlap between FND, neurodivergence, and gender. Simone takes us through treatment options for FND and who would be involved in the treatment team. How Simone came to specialise in FND and her work in FND advocacy and education. Things mentioned: FND Australia Support Functional Neurological Disorder in Australia Functional Neurological Disorder Society (FNDS), for professionals. Here are some studies on the link between FND and Autism – Tamilson et al., 2024, Gonzalez-Herrero et al., 2024, Pun et al., 2020, Link between gender and FND – McLoughlin et al., 2023. Having seen how John Collett Ryland's wide friendships likely influenced his change of views regarding church communion, let us now examine his only writing on the subject. This came in a 3 page broadsheet-style publication in very small type dated June 15, 1772 and signed Pacificus. It was entitled “A Modest Plea for Free Communion at the Lord's Table; between true believers of all denominations: In a letter to a friend.” This defended free communion in the form of a letter beginning, “Dear Sir”. It gave eight reasons for Pacificus' church practice and four answers to objections before a half-page conclusion. Given its small size and presumably small printing, it's a marvel any of these pieces of ephemera survive. Two copies are known to exist. The first one was discovered by Robert Oliver about 1981. This is a special addition to the Merry Moog podcast. I found what is likely a one-of-a-disc private pressing by Frank Collett using the Moog Modular Synthesizer. This 45 RPM disc was recorded at Finetone Recording Studio in New York City and is inscribed with the hand-written message, “To John & Loretta: Merry XMAS. Composed and arranged by Frank Collett” This appears to be disc made of metal with a vinyl coating. One side includes his rendition of Bach's “Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring” plus a short tune called “Little Joey” (see below). The flip side contains the same recording of “Little Joey.” Dated December 22, 1970. Clearly made using a Moog Modular Synthesizer. Collett (1941-2016) was a noted session pianist and sometimes led and recorded with his own trio. He was raised in New York. In 1968 he was accompanist to Sarah Vaughan. The following year he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. He became the house pianist, with the orchestra in the main showroom of the International Hotel (which became the Las Vegas Hilton). It was during this period that he made this recording in NY. 01:57 49:44 17. Frank Collett, “Little Joey” (1970 Privately Made Release). Frank Collett using the Moog Modular Synthesizer. Collett (1941-2016) was a noted session pianist and sometimes led and recorded with his own trio. Moog Modular Synthesiser, Frank Collett. Whose Moog Synthesizer did he use to make this recording? I can only speculate and guess that he made the recording at the studio of Gerson Kingsley in New York. 01:56 51:40 18. I was sent this as a promotional album back in 1985 with a kind little note from the artists. Sorry it took me so long to put the Christmas-related track in my podcast. Romantic Synthesizer, “So This is Christmas” from Christmas Memories (1983 Dureco Benelux). French-Dutch album. Arranged, produced, synthesizers by Gerto Heupink, Robert Pot. We don't often hear an instrumental rendition of this Lennon and Ono X-mas tune. 03:22 01:22:34 30. Swinging Buildings, “Praying For A Cheaper Christmas” from Chantons Noël - Ghosts Of Christmas Past (1981 Les Disques Du Crépuscule). From a compilation album of Christmas-related tunes. This group was once rumored to be New Order in disguise. But no, they were in fact The Bowling Balls in disguise. 03:07 01:25:54 31. The Original Cast: R2-D2, Anthony Daniels As C-3PO, “R2D2 We Wish You A Merry Christmas” from Christmas In The Stars: Star Wars Christmas Album (1980 RSO). The whole Star Wars crew seems to have a part in this holiday album. I wanted to highlight a track featuring the melodious electronic beeping of R2D2. 03:33 01:34:34 Opening background music: Sounds Of Broadcasting 1, “Christmas Logos” from Sounds Of Broadcasting #6088 (1975? William B. Tanner Company, Inc.). Broadcast library track produced for the holidays. Produced using a Moog Modular Synthesizer. Notice how the melody imitates a familiar tune without ever hitting the same notes. A copyright thing. Another name of this track might as well be, “It's Beginning to Sound A Lot Like Christmas.” Jean Jacques Perrey and Sy Mann, “Tijuana Christmas” from Switched on Santa (1970 Pickwick). USA. Moog Modular Synthesizer. Don Voegeli, “Chanukah” from Holiday & Seasonal Music (1977 EMI). USA. Produced at the Electrosonic Studio of the University of Wisconsin-Extension.
