Hello boys and girls, and welcome to Episode 197 of Front End Chatter, a motorcycling-themed podcast spoken out loud by Simon Hargreaves and Martin Fitz-Gibbons, very much the Ying and Yang, the Ego and the Id, the – if you will – Laurel and Hardy of motorcycle journalism. We are supported as ever by our compadres Bennetts, Britain's best bike insurer (which I think we've basically established as fact, now) and bikesocial.co.uk, the most amazingly comprehensive motorcycling website on the, er, web. And not forgetting, as if we could, bikeclub.bennetts.co.uk – the place to speak your motorcycling brains. And on this episode of FEC we have: • exhaustive details of Ducati's new Multistrada • extensive details of Kawasaki's new Versys 1100 • executive details of the recall notice for Kawasaki's Ninja hybrid • exemplary details of Triumph's new Speed Twin 1200 • economic details of KTM's woes • plus your questions, queries, thoughts and musings from the FECSack – please send your missives and misgivings to: anything@frontendchatter.com and we'll get round to reading it out in six months' time. Probably. Thank you very much for watching and you can no longer reach us on Twitter because there is no more Twitter. But we're still on Instagram: @SimonHBikes @Mufga

Maggie Dean chats with Madison area superbike racer Sam Kok about all things track. Music by Otis McDonald (http://www.otismacmusic.com/)Dedicated Episode Page: https://tro.bike/podcast/2021e02/ Higher Quality WAV Audio: https://tro.bike/podcast/2021e02.wav// Announcements & Corrections:People, some dude rode 100,000 miles in 100 days. That's 1000 miles per day, minimum. Respect. More on that here: His Name Is Chris Hopper (https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/qqyvis/100k_miles_in_100_days/)// Blather:It's been almost a year since our last episode, so ... uh ... Robin is still in New Mexico carving the curves of the lovely 152 and treacherous 52/59. Tim is gettin' frickin' married! The Burleson twins are two and can count to ten.Our interview features the incredible Sam Kok, a road racer from Madison, WI who competes primarily in the Midwest. He's won national and regional races on a superbike clocking speeds up to 180 mph. This interview is a two-parter! For round one, Sam discusses the heavy technical science behind both low and high speed performance.Listener questions are a lot of fun this round. The trio goes toe to toe with "new, innovative" and unnecessary (overpriced) technology that is cornering ABS. Then, we advise a well informed friend about bike lifts vs. handy tables.// Guest Interview:When meeting Sam Kok (https://www.facebook.com/samkoknumber28/) for the first time, one might not suspect he races a superbike with surgical accuracy. Moreover, his kind, thoughtful and safety-minded demeanor offers wisdom to not only advanced-level track day aficionados but new would-be riders as well. In this first of two conversations, Mrs. Mags explores the science behind skills needed for high speed safety (and thrills).// Model Focus:Surprisingly lightweight, this mid-sized (or as Robin would argue, "appropriately sized") sport tourer is already flying off the showroom floors before it even arrives. Let's hope they manufacture enough to answer the needs of one Travis Burleson.// New Kit:Knight Design 1 inch Lowered Front Foot Pegs for Yamaha FZ1 Models -05, Sidetrax tread, black anodized// Site Updates & Features:The new beta is almost ready! There are still a number of important steps to be taken before its introduction but we're beginning to see the fruits of our labor. Bugs? Of course. Simpler? Much gooder, yes. More soonerer.// Listener Questions:Kevin Butler asks ..."Should I ignore cornering ABS technology in my next motorcycle purchase? It seems most bikes after 2010 have ABS, which is great. But with most specs or features being almost equal (displacement, electronic features, bhp, etc.) do I, the risk adverse 1998 Honda Nighthawk owner, need cornering ABS on a bike? Consider the Versys 1000 LT CycleTrader sample prices: 2018 at less than $11,000 + $900 for 28 liter hard bags. 2019 at $15000. That's only one example but cornering ABS comes in a $3000 price tag? Will I actually use it? I've Never been on a racetrack, rarely ride in the rain, etc. Maybe I'm just talking myself out of the latest and greatest to opt for the slightly older model and cash savings?"Mel Boldt asks ..."I can't find a compelling argument for a motorcycle lift table vs. a big blue Jack that goes to the same height. Table is twice as much and not at all portable. I did find a handy lift that's about 350 cheaper without the vise. I have a condor stand that will work with it though. To get an oil pan under the Harley or triumph it has to be up in the air a couple inches at least. That puts me back on the ground with my craftsman jack for basic maintenance or spending another $200 for a Jack that works on the table. Any input?"// That's About It:TRO is seeking sponsors for this podcast. Sponsors get a focused mention at the start, middle and end of their designated episode. Hello and go away to Front End Chatter, the UK's most motorcycling podcast featuring aural nonsense from Martin Fitz-Gibbons and Simon Hargreaves. This is episode 145, supported and nourished by Bennetts Bike Social; so much more than just bike – and now car – insurance: check out their website to discover the multifarious munificent benefits of membership. And, if you're at all interested in Yamaha's Tracer 9 GT v Triumph's Tiger 900 GT Pro v BMW's F900XR v Kawasaki's Versys 1000 SE GT, check out the road test video at https://youtu.be/C5SJO6trgz8 Anyway, on this week's moany, miserable-ass FEC we have: on-the-scenes goss from the British MotoGP at Silverstone, including why Mufga loved being there on Saturday and Simon hated it Dorna's race feed going down just before the race Marquez crashing out *again* and why he's the crashingiest rider this season Aprilia's... we can't call it a resurrection so let's just call it an erection... WSB gets a mention with some fab racing from Magny Cours – and some scandalous losing more new bikes from Triumph with a teaser for the all-new Tiger 1200 and leaked shots of the new Speed Triple RR ...and the new Moto Guzzi V100 – all-new water-cooled engine, with fins, with fairly *interesting* looks... Plus the FEC sack, including: changing pads to change braking character re-setting the quickshifter on an S1000XR a touching story about becoming emotionally attached to items of bike clothing when is a tubeless tyre not a tubeless tyre? Answers please, because we don't know... And much, much more – including more info on the first, and perhaps only, FEC Tour coming in May 2022... Rides: Chris has been practicing motojitsu. Larry gets his Versys serviced and takes a short ride afterwards. He is nervous about doing a track day. Tom gets a haircut on his scooter and then goes out with his wife on the local twisties. Larry notes that in California although traffic has decreased, the number of speeders has increased. Kevin and Tom discuss what is happening in terms of motorcycle classes. News: Larry bring in the exciting news about winglets on Piaggio MP3 scooters (and perhaps Aprilia’s). More exciting news about a Lithuanian titling enclosed trike. Kevin thinks it is a small Slingshot, but Larry objects because it does tilt at speed. There ensues a discussion as to whether this qualifies as a motorcycle (spoiler: it doesn't). More Harley news, new CEO buying Harley stock in his personal account. What does it mean? Appears that Harley will delay introduction of the ADV and Streetfighter bikes. More hot news around origami motorcycles Topic: Which side is preferred for turning, left or right. Paddock: Larry reports on the latest MotoGP news, and the plans for restarting the MotoGP season. Larry reviews the virtual MotoGP results for the week. In this episode I give my thoughts, comments and reactions after test riding the Kawasaki Ninja 650, Versys 1000 SE LT+ and the Ninja ZX-6R during the Kawasaki Demo Truck Days at Maximum Motorsports in Riverhead, NY. I enjoyed riding all 3 bikes, but by far the Ninja ZX-6R was the stand out. I loved the power and performance and the quick up-shifter feature. Riding this bike definitely aligned with my desires to start doing track days. While I previously considered starting track days on a 300 to 400 cc bike like the Yamaha R3, now I'm thinking a supersport class bike like the 636 cc Ninja ZX-6R would give me something good to start out on with a lot of room to grow into as my skills, confidence and bravery develop. Hello and welcome to Front End Chatter E54, brought to you as is our wont, by our friends at www.bikesocial.co.uk. Subjects for discussion in E54 include: • MotoGP from The Hot Springs Of the River Hondo circuit in Argentina – who won, who fell off, who thought they should've won, how many miles per gallon Cal Crutchlow gets from his RCV, and a whole bunch of nerdy stats including some so nerdy we can't actually work out what they mean • World Snoozerbike from Aragon where • British Superbike from Donington Park • plus some bikes we've ridden including a thorough review of KTM's revamped 390 Duke, and a less coherent mention of Honda's new Rebel, CB1100s and CBR and CB650F • plus your emails, which is easily the best bit, including why no-one makes 750 sportsbikes, why Rea could become the most winningest rider ever in WSB this year, and why swapping a Daytona 955i for a Versys 650 is a good idea. Thanks for listening, please visit www.bikesocial.co.uk to download FEC (or buy insurance from Bennetts), get hold of Martin and I on Twitter at: @SimonHbikes and @Mufga And please keep firing in those emails about anything you want to correct us on, or want us to find out for you, or... whatever you want. This week on our motorcycle podcast we settle in to the garage with the fan on, because it's too damn hot! We recap recent rides and crashes. Liza sums up all the reasons the Versys is an amazing bike, yet still manages to be boring. Zach shares his impressions of the bikes he saw on his recent trip to Europe. We read a ton of great new emails, and then spring a game on the XR650R owners to see how well they know their bikes. Next up we talk about the new Harley Flat Tracker, and the fact that flat tracking is becoming much more popular now. Then we finish with upcoming events. With Liza, Zach, Dave, Naked Jim, Douglas, Charley, Kat, Nak, Mike, John, Isaac and Bagel. motorcyclesandmisfits.com Recycle Santa Cruz Facebook page Recycle Santa Cruz on YouTube Patreon Motorcycles & Misfits recyclemotorcyclegarage@gmail.com

This year's final episode of Britain's best biking podcast comes to you from the jungle... no, Andorra... no, Benidorm. And Sicily. In this hour-and-a-bit, Ant and Dec - sorry, Simon and Martin - cover: - Is Britain officially in love with Foggy once again (the stats suggest so), or did he just surf a wave of cult nostalgia (the stats suggest so...)? - Marquez moves out of his parents' house, cries, then proves he's the greatest rider on the planet even in the off-season.
