In this episode, Jeff Alberts, Eric Helms, and Andrea Valdez talk about when to quit as a physique or strength athlete. While most content on the internet is about how to get motivated or how to commit yourself in the long-term, this week's episode focuses on the flip side of that. Nothing is forever, but some things can definitely be cut short or taken too far if you're not paying attention to the right things. Eric, Jeff, and Andrea go over the common "make it or break it" points of the many athletes that they've dealt with over the years. Jeff discusses his multiple retirements as a bodybuilder, all 3 coaches discuss the times that each of them have quit our own competition seasons early, and why they think some people are able to maintain lifetime careers as athletes, while many others cannot. If you've ever wondered how much longer you can last, or even whether or not this whole getting on stage thing is for you, you'll really get a lot of valuable decision-making ammunition from this episode. When it gets tough in this business -- and let's face it, it does sometimes get tough -- how many more times do we have to DO it all? The answer: Just once more.
How many times, as an actor, have you felt like you're cruising at a delightfully efficient pace, actually making really good time toward your ultimate destination (anything from fame to that first network costar booking) and then, BAM! there's a snag? You're suddenly in a traffic jam and now your arrival doesn't seem like it will be on schedule.
Everyone loves to talk about competition, about rejection, about how many actors you're up against every day. What about the people who leave acting (or even the business, altogether)? How close might they have been to the big win?
Once upon a time, I was crushed that my "Plan A" didn't work out. That was 20 years ago, as I was packing up to leave Hollywood, never to return (HA! It's funny how much we "know for sure" at 24). Hear about my aunt's brilliant "Plan K" talk here.
