In this episode of Successful Musicians, we are joined by Will and Brooke Blair, a brother duo known for their work in the world of film and TV scoring. They share their journey, offer practical advice for musicians, and discuss how they've adapted to the fast-paced demands of the industry. They are long-term collaborators with director Jeremy Saulnier, scoring his first feature, “Murder Party,” which won the Slamdance 2007 Audience Award. Brooke and Will Blair's music enhances the emotional and narrative depth of the projects they work on, making them a sought-after duo in the industry. What You'll Learn The Blair brothers' unique journey into the film and TV scoring world. How scoring for different genres pushes them creatively and keeps their work fresh. The importance of collaboration and building strong relationships in the industry. Practical advice for musicians working under tight deadlines. Things We Discussed Will and Brooke emphasize the importance of mastering your tools when working in film and television scoring. Deadlines are tight, and musicians need to be fast, efficient, and decisive. Brooke advises musicians to get better at their tools, whether it's recording, mixing, or any other technical aspect of music production. In addition, the brothers share valuable advice on maintaining a healthy work-life balance. After years of experience, they've learned the importance of setting boundaries and making time for family, even in a demanding field like film composition. Will and Brooke emphasize that it's not about working long hours—it's about making the hours you work count. Whether it's taking a break to hike with family or simply stepping away from the project for a while, this balance can help keep creativity flowing. Often, solutions to creative problems come when you're not actively thinking about them. Tread Perilously's month of backdoor pilots continues with The Facts of Life's attempt to backdoor reboot itself in its final half-hour -- an episode called "The Beginning of the Beginning." When Blair learns Eastland is due to close, she cashes in her trust fund to buy the school. She quickly learns operating a private academy is anything but easy thanks to dwindling enrollment and a mansplaining science teacher. To save the enterprise, she decides to admit boys. Surprisingly, the addition of a whole gender is less of an issue than a girl who wants to be expelled. Will Blair learn how to be Mrs. Garrett in time to save her pupil? Paul Pakler of Paul and Corey Cross the Streams joins Erik and Justin for another visit to Peekskill. He credits the show's theme song for a deep philosophical tie. Justin decides the Facts of Life TV movies are more entertaining. The trio tries to unravel the mystery of Juliette Lewis. They also fondly remember character actor Kathleen Freeman. Continuity flubs point out just how little such things matter in the late 1980s. Erik recalls the time Elijah Wood stalked him at Comic-Con. Paul finds the one funny joke about Shirley MacLaine's 1980s New Age adventures and Justin recasts Seth Green as Bud Bundy.

If your dream of fishing for rainbows in Russia has taken you down a Google-rabbit hole, you've likely encountered the name, “Will Blair”. Blair is an American pioneer of Kamchatka trout fishing, operating remote outfitting businesses in Russia since the 1990's. If explorations of uncharted trout streams via Russian military helicopters weren't enough, Will's penchant for fly fishing solitude has led him to the remote reaches of the Bahamian islands with his latest venture. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lauren-karnopp3/support Learn more about your ad choices. Will Blair is one of the godfathers of fly fishing in Kamchatka. Since 1997, Will has helped pioneer some of the top fisheries on the Kamchatka Peninsula, developing and offering what is arguably one of the best rainbow trout fishing experiences found anywhere on the planet. Yellow Dog is proud to partner with Will and his remote Two Yurt and Ozernaya programs, along with the incredibly-unique “Rainbows from Above” customized fly-out program. Because Will knows this mysterious and wild area like no one else, we tracked him down with a long list of questions in-hand. We discuss the factors that make a trip to Kamchatka so special, what gear to bring, the seasonality of the fisheries, species, travel logistics, and the stories you might tell upon returning from one of the greatest rainbow trout destinations in the world. If you’ve ever thought about a trip to Kamchatka, then you will certainly enjoy this exciting episode: the Season 1 finale of the Waypoints Podcast.

The second remake of the original, 2019's Black Christmas, is a movie with similar aspirations. It's no surprise that the convergence of punk rock and horror is something that excites your host, and this week we're really excited to have the man whose name comes to mind when punk rock and horror are mentioned, especially with literature: Dread Media's oldest friend, David Agranoff. Desmond and David talk about punk rock and David's journey toward writing his latest novel, the truly unique Punk Rock Ghost Story. Then, themes converge as we celebrate horror and punk, as well as ticking a box for Siegetember in Darryll and Desmond's review of Green Room. Spotted: C and S spying Serena and Dan on the beach. Is this the beginning of a new chapter, or the beginning of the end? Will Blair get Lord Marcus to name her royal, or will the Duchess become a royal pain? And will Nate be able to use his assets to keep his family's? Also, Rufus is back! How will it all shake down? We'll never tell...
Take a dip into this week's episode as Mike and Bellamy emerge themselves in the wealth and opulence of lower Manhattan. Follow along with us as we try to track all the hope dreams and aspirations of the twenty something socialites who all look like Zac Efron, Brendon Urie, and Blake Lively. Spoiler alert, it really is Blake Lively. Enjoy our abysmal attempt at trying to figure out the intrigue and social power structure of some of New York's finest (by finest I mean worst) made up families. This episode will have you glued to the edge of your seat with questions like "Will Blair and Daniel ever get together?" "Will Serena and Ben ever get together?" "Are Chuck and Reena going to get together again?" and most perhaps importantly "Why am I still watching this?". With some quippy dialogue delivered at a cadence no normal human speaks at, a couple good natured references to The Shallows, and a fair shake of soap opera squinty stares just off camera, Gossip Girl really captures exactly what it means to be a teen melodrama in the mid two thousands. How you read that last sentence is completely up to you. *Disclaimer* Gossip Girl doesn't have an opening credits song so I just used one of my favorites from a show we'll never be able to do. Props if you wen't "Hey... isn't that from the OC?" Tune in each Monday as we choose a new show and make more wildly inaccurate assumptions. Okay byeeeeee.
This week, C and S discuss the debutante ball shenanigans on the latest episode. Will meeting Serena's grandmother, Cece, send Dan running? Will Jenny find a better dress? Will Blair have to choose between Nate or Chuck? Or Bassen? And where's Vanessa? We'll never tell...
This week, C and S digest the Thanksgiving leftovers from "Blair Waldorf Must Pie". Will the van der Woodens have to eat Lily's sliced pumpkin? Will the Humphrey's handle the awkward dinner arrangements? Will Blair get to have her Dad's pie? And will Nate ever become interesting? We'll never tell...
C and S divulge the fallout after Chuck and Blair's tryst, watching Dan stumble in his new relationship with Serena, while keeping up with his old one with Vanessa, and Mayo Boy Nate and the delinquent Captain. Will Blair get her birthday wish? There's only one way to find out...
Based on the 1990s flight simulator computer game (and not Space Invaders), Wing Commander is a modestly budgeted space opera set before an impending alien invasion. Starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Saffron Burrows, Matthew Lillard, Jürgen Prochnow, and Malcolm McDowell replacement David Warner, the film is largely a Star Wars ripoff injected with overt references to Star Trek, Das Boot, Battlestar Galactica, Top Gun, and whatever else director and game creator Chris Roberts could get away with. Lieutenant Christopher Blair (Prinze) arrives at the TCS Tiger Class with vital information regarding their war with the Kilrathi aliens. Commander Gerald (Prochnow) doesn’t trust Blair because of his Pilgrim geneology. Pilgrims were the original explorers and colonizers of space who turned into big jerks and attained Force-like powers of intergalactic navigation. Meanwhile, Blair’s buddy Todd “Maniac” Marshall (Lillard) hot dogs around in his ship and generally makes an ass of himself. Will they save the Earth before the impending Kilrathi invasion? Will Blair hook up with Wing Commander Deveraux (Burrows)? Why is there gravity in space? Does any of this matter?
Ten years ago Jill Fraser stood in the Holborn and St Pancras constituency as the Lib Dem candidate. It was said she gave Labour a bit of a scare. She’s back again with another attempt to take the seat held for more than thirty years by Frank Dobson, who’s retiring. She spoke to our reporter Ann Carroll about her political beginnings, her determination to represent the local community even if that puts her at odds with her party, and fish and chips. There’s a new Labour Candidate in Town. After more than thirty years as MP for Holborn and St Pancras, Frank Dobson is standing down and the party has chosen Sir Keir Starmer to fight the seat. He’s a Barrister, specialising in Human Rights issues and was Director of Public Prosecutions for five years before leaving the post in 2013. Camden Community Radio caught up with him at Labour’s local office where he spoke about tackling the constituency’s problems, lowering the voting age and how he doesn’t like being called SIR Keir – “It’s Keir” he insists. Our reporter, Ann Carroll, began by asking him what he feels he brings to Camden. Next year’s General Election will mark a watershed for Camden as the long serving Labour MP for Holborn and St Pancras, Frank Dobson, will be retiring. His party have yet to announce who will take his place as candidate, but the Conservative Party have chosen theirs. Will Blair is already busy campaigning while holding down a full time job. He took time out of his schedule to come into our studio and talked to Ann Carroll about his fondness for Camden, his background, handling social media and the threat from Ukip. She began by asking him why he was standing. The political profile of the Green Party has been rising sharply, not least in Camden where its Leader, Natalie Bennett, is standing as a prospective parliamentary candidate in Holborn and St Pancras. The seat’s been held by Labour’s Frank Dobson for more than 30 years but he’s now standing down. The constituency is on the Green’s list of its top 12 targets and Natalie Bennett says she’s going all out to win it. She took some time from the campaign to speak to Camden Community Radio’s reporter, Ann Carroll.
