Yay! We then get into our headline story for the week. Sea Turtle Recovery, a sea turtle hospital located at Turtle Back Zoo in New Jersey, was struck by lightning this week and suffered a fire. While all the turtles were saved by the incredible staff, the story is worth hearing and they need your help. Jodi has one of the coolest jobs out there!  She works with Gorillas!  Well, not just gorillas but all things primate at the Zoo Atlanta!"Jodi has been working with primates for over 19 years, most of them at Zoo Atlanta, with a keen interest in western lowland gorillas. Before joining Zoo Atlanta, she worked with primates at Zoo Miami and the Pittsburgh Zoo. Jodi is a member of the Gorilla Species Survival Plan (SSP) Management Group and the Gorilla Behavior Advisory Group. She has also worked to raise support for Zoo Atlanta's longtime partner in gorilla conservation, The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, and has led trips to Africa to observe mountain gorillas." - Zoo AtlantaAs the Curator of Primates, her job entails working with a team of folks every day to provide care for all of the primates in the Zoo! The outrage at how Paora the kiwi was treated at an American zoo seems to have abated now the bird has been removed from public view. Video posted to social media showed the nocturnal bird being placed under bright lights and roughly handled during $40 "Kiwi Encounters" at Zoo Miami. The furore led to the zoo issuing multiple apologies for its mishandling of the New Zealand icon. Our reporter Emma Stanford has the story.  

'Kiwi encounters' at Zoo Miami have been cancelled, after disturbing footage emerged of visitors handling the bird under bright lights. In the video, Paora the kiwi bird was likened to a puppy and touched carelessly, sparking outrage from iwi leader - and the bird's namesake - Paora Haitana, and the Department of Conservation. Zoo Miami communications director Ron Magill spoke to Guyon Espiner.

After years of delays due to scheduling, hurricanes, and COVID, the long discussed combined conference of trainers from the Animal Behavior Management Alliance (ABMA) and the International Marine Animal Trainers' Association (IMATA) is underway in Atlanta.  Zoo Logic is live with two of the organizations' long time leaders, Nicki Boyd, Curator of Applied Behavior from San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance and Will Elgar, Director of ZOO Miami.
