At the helm of The Parade Company since 2009, Tony Michaels is President & CEO of the iconic Detroit non-profit organization and served on its Board of Directors for over a decade. He leads some of Detroit's most storied traditions, including the near century-old America's Thanksgiving Parade presented by Gardner White and the world-class Ford Fireworks, which have both delighted generations of families and resulted in significant economic impact for the region. He has led major growth of The Parade Company with bringing on Gardner White as presenting sponsor of the parade through 2031, one of the oldest in the nation, and attracting top partners and sponsors of Michigan and global companies. He has expanded the broadcast to 185 television markets in the U.S., and under his leadership, the parade is recognized as the Best Holiday Parade in America by USA TODAY. In addition, The Parade Company produces several other Detroit jewels including the Strategic Staffing Solutions Turkey Trot and Hob Nobble Gobble presented by Ford Motor Company, among other year-round events. Tony is a distinguished Michigan business leader and has received a multitude of honors for championing initiatives. Most recently, Tony was named 2022 Michiganian of the Year by the Detroit News, received the 2022 Edward H. McNamara Goodfellow of the Year Award and the Spirit of Detroit Award from Detroit City Council. He is on the Board of Directors for the Detroit Economic Club and Henry Ford Hospital West Bloomfield, and an advisor to non-profit organizations and business and community leaders, including the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester and the Marketing Committee of the Detroit Zoo. He is of counsel to the Woodward Dream Cruise and Brand Advisor to the Detroit Jazz Festival. Previously, Tony was the CEO of Elias Brothers Restaurants from 1998 to 2000, and held that same position from 2001 to 2008 at the newly formed company, which he worked on developing called Big Boy Restaurants LLC. Tony took over Elias Brothers as the company was headed into financial trouble and successfully structured a deal that allowed for the company's assets to be purchased under new ownership. This plan resulted in the company experiencing significant growth, including preserving existing jobs and the disciplined creation of new positions that supported the local and national growth of the brand. During this time, a complete rebranding of the company also occurred. Nation's Restaurant News took notice and named Big Boy Restaurants, LLC as the exclusive winner of the “”Hot Again Concept”” award in 2007. Prior to 1998, he served as Chief Marketing Officer at the company. Tony is a graduate of Central Michigan University with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing. This week we converse with Jeff & Tony! How our careers and our hobbies blend to make a brand. Leaning on your strengths and being aware of your weaknesses. Before we get all serious you know we mix some silly dialogue for the DBP listenership with plenty of golf talk. A full recap of the RBC Canadian Open and more of Its All A Blur Tour updates. We've never fished for more sponsorships than this episode so yea I guess we're open to hear offers. (Not really tho) Greenview memories & the road we traveled to get here. How the money turned me into a terrible human being… We also have never talked more about road maintenance and design. Jeff incriminates hisself on this episode. What is your biggest asset? What are you willing to do to protect it? I hate to give you guys a cliff hanger episode but it is what is it, we will talk next week
Welcome to BM! This week, Jenn and Luke are back in America for some reason and we talk about their trip to the great country of Europe. Turns out that international travel kind of sucks once you get back to the US. Jenn brought a MtnDew brand inflatable foot pillow that she used along side her old timer compression socks that made her airplane ride much more comfortable. Luke was made to drive the rental car for the entirety of the trip and he accidentally crunched the back quarter panel pulling into a parking garage in Eindhoven. Thankfully, due to the polite kindness of the Dutch, they were not charged for it. Since their last trip to The Netherlands, Luke and Jenn have developed a hunger for horse meat and went immediately to Albert Heijn to procure some frikanel broodje to satisfy their primal need. Once their bloodthirsty need was fulfilled, they went to see priceless works of art, old boats and Philips Electronics. Edward and Katie filled us all in on the weeks they missed during their time abroad. Katie went to Detroit with Edward Jr. to see M83 with Jeremiah Chiu and go to the Detroit Zoo. Phase two has started at Katie and Edward's house room moving project, Steve Jr. went to see CupcakKe at a local show and got to meet CupcakKe herself, Ed Jr. is now done with High School and is now a full grown adult and gradgeiated as the number one Saluteadictorian in all of his classes! Luke and Jenn's lawn was very long when the got home from Europe. One of our loyal viewers accidentally signed us up for the Boot Barn email list and they sent us a 10% off coupon for white cowboy boots (plus 19 other emails) and we try to figure out who would be so dastardly to do such a thing. Nate and Edward now have a date at Boot Barn to shop for Wranglers. Edward got a great bargain on a Future Calendar that doesn't have any future holidays listed. Most of our Dads are dead and we can't celebrate Father's Day anyway. Maybe people with dead Dads should have Dads that are alive next time. Losers. This week's game is hosted by Edward and he forces us to take a bunch of random pills. We can only pick two per round and we have to wait and find out what they do to us. Katie goes first and turns into a grilled cheese eating socialist, Jenn goes second and also wants a grilled cheese sandwich, Edward goes third and also wants a grilled cheese sandwich and Luke instead of the grilled cheese sandwich pill - decided to become Batman. The second round off pills gets a little weirder. Jenn becomes a worm, Luke becomes an olive, Taylor Swift shows up to help us with a side-quest, Edward's true colors come out as becomes a super-villain and Katie presents us with some worm super facts! Happy Pride Month from our stupid podcast! Follow the show on Instagram @bubbmush and email us at bubbmush@gmail.com - Thanks for listening everyone :)
