A brief description of the neurological disorder and its pathophysiology will be presented to provide a background on what is known about FXTAS. This will be followed by an integrated presentation by these three investigators that will describe how translational biomedical research strategies and goals have been used facilitate the identification of biomarkers of disease and neurocognitive outcome measures for FXTAS over the developmental course of the disease. Specifically, the presentation will describe how studies in human FXTAS patients and basic science findings in transgenic mouse models of FXTAS have been integrated so that each informs the other to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery. The overall goal of such integration is to facilitate the development of new therapeutic interventions to improve patient outcome.
