In this episode of My Simplified Life, host Michelle Glogovac speaks with Dr. Damon Korb, a developmental and behavioral pediatrician, about his book Raising an Organized Child. They discuss the importance of instilling organizational skills in children, the role of parents in modeling these behaviors, and practical steps to help children become more organized and independent. The conversation covers various topics including the significance of routines, recognizing individual learning styles, and the benefits of chores in fostering independence and reducing anxiety in children. What We're Talking About An organized child is not just about tidiness but a way of thinking. Parents must model organizational skills to teach their children effectively. It's never too late to start teaching organization, but earlier is better. Children thrive on structure and routine from infancy. Recognizing individual learning styles is crucial for effective teaching. Encouraging independence helps children learn to solve their own problems. Chores contribute to children's confidence and reduce anxiety. Gradual independence in tasks prepares children for adulthood. Electronics use should be balanced with responsibilities. Resources like books and websites can aid in teaching organizational skills. The moment you notice something isn't right with your child, your entire world shifts on its axis. For us, that moment came when our six-month-old daughter Paisley began experiencing strange head-dropping episodes that would ultimately lead us on an unexpected 72-hour journey through fear, uncertainty, and eventually, profound relief. What started as a routine Friday quickly spiraled into a whirlwind of medical consultations that left us caught between two drastically different opinions. Our trusted pediatrician assured us these episodes were merely developmental—a six-month-old's muscles still learning to support a heavy head when tired. Meanwhile, neurologists reviewing the same footage urgently directed us to the children's hospital, using words no parent ever wants to hear: infantile spasms, potential epilepsy, developmental concerns. The hours spent in Barbara Bush Children's Hospital were simultaneously endless and fleeting. Watching technicians attach electrodes to our baby's head while she looked at us with confusion and betrayal tested every fiber of our being. Yet through it all, Paisley remained remarkably resilient, smiling and charming everyone who entered her room, becoming the unexpected bright spot for hospital staff during their difficult shifts. What this experience taught us transcends the medical diagnosis. When you're sitting in a hospital room, staring at your child connected to monitors, everything else in life—work stress, financial worries, petty grievances—simply evaporates. We found ourselves making silent promises to give up absolutely everything if it meant she would be okay. The profound clarity about what truly matters in life is perhaps the unexpected gift hidden within this terrifying experience. We're sharing this intensely personal journey because we know someone listening needs to hear they're not alone in their medical uncertainty or parental fear. If our story helps just one family feel less isolated during their own struggle, or encourages someone to trust their parental instincts, then exposing this vulnerable chapter of our lives will have been worth it.If you found value in today's show please return the favor and leave a positive review and share it with someone important to you! https://www.sharethestrugglepodcast.com/reviews/new/Find all you need to know about the show https://www.sharethestrugglepodcast.com/Official Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100077724159859Join the 2% of Americans that Buy American and support American Together we can bring back American Manufacturing https://www.loudproudamerican.shop/Loud Proud American Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LoudproudamericanLoud Proud American Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/loud_proud_american/Loud Proud American TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@loud_proud_americanLoud Proud American YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmYQtOt6KVURuySWYQ2GWtwThank you for Supporting My American Dream!

Fr. Mike explores the mystery of Jesus' infancy and hidden life. We first take a look at Jesus' Baptism, circumcision, and the Epiphany. Fr. Mike discusses that Jesus' circumcision shows us that salvation comes from the Jews. The Epiphany shows us that salvation does not stop there, it extends to all of us. Later, we examine Jesus' hidden life. Fr. Mike emphasizes the importance of Jesus' obedience to not just his Father in Heaven, but to his earthly father and mother as well, and how we can imitate that obedience. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 527-534. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. Childhood Memories: Their Impact on Mothers and Their 0–3-year-old Children with Ilene Lefcourt (New York)

“There are very specific fears that people have that are specifically related to their own childhood, and I'd like to give an example. A mom with twins had a kidnapping fear. She was afraid every time she saw a car drive by her house that her twins would be kidnapped. Now this mother was herself adopted when she was a newborn, but her adoption did not become final until she was one year old. Her twins were approaching one year. I was struck by the anniversary of her fear of kidnapping, and when I asked her who she thought was driving the car that drove by her house, she blurted out, 'my biological mother - adoption was never an issue for me, I have the best parents,' she said, but her fears about her babies being kidnapped were rooted in her own guilty feelings. She said, 'I get to keep my biological babies and my biological mother did not. I can have biological babies and my adoptive mother could not.' Carrie's fantasy that her biological mother was threatening to kidnap her babies represented both her fears of retaliation for her aggressive victories over both her biological mother and her adoptive mother, and the repair of her disavowed feeling of loss by a reunion with her biological mother. This meaning of the memory, this understanding of the memory, resolved her kidnapping fear. It dissolved.” Episode Description: We begin with an overview of the importance of mothers' childhood memories in their experience of their own children. These memories are of the conscious sort and also the not-so conscious. They are of the loving as well as the misattuned versions. "The challenge for mothers is to understand the complexity of their own childhood memories and to help their babies and toddlers adapt to the everyday ups and downs of life, as well as to the exceptional ones." We discuss typical fears, sleep problems, 'mutually-regulated patterns', naming body parts, nakedness, weaning and screen time. Ilene ran mother-baby-toddler groups for 35 years and shares with us her relentless curiosity for what we all bring to the parenting experience.   Our Guest: In 1982, Ilene Lefcourt established the Sackler Lefcourt Center for Child Development - programs for parents and their children from birth to three years. She was the Director, led the Mother-Baby-Toddler Groups, and provided Developmental Consultation to parents for over 35 years. She saw over 1,000 families and taught Child Psychiatry Residents and Parent-Infant Psychotherapy Trainees about her work. She has been a faculty member at the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center since 1995. Ms. Lefcourt is currently in private practice in New York City. She is the author of When Mothers Talk, Parenting and Childhood Memories, and Mother-Baby-Toddler Group Guide. The lecture covers defenses to crimes and an introduction to criminal procedure, focusing on the Fourth Amendment. Defenses to Crimes: Capacity Defenses include insanity, infancy, and intoxication. Insanity involves not understanding actions or right from wrong, using tests like the M'Naghten Rule, Irresistible Impulse Test, Durham Rule, and Model Penal Code Test. Infancy recognizes that minors lack criminal intent, with different age classifications. Intoxication is generally not a defense, except for involuntary intoxication or for negating specific intent crimes. Justification/Excuse Defenses include self-defense, defense of others, duress, necessity, and entrapment. Self-defense involves using proportional force against imminent harm, sometimes with a duty to retreat. Defense of others is similar to self-defense, sometimes using the "alter ego rule" or "reasonable belief" standard. Duress involves committing a crime under immediate threat of harm, but is not a defense to murder. Necessity involves committing a crime to prevent greater harm when there is no other reasonable alternative. * Entrapment is when law enforcement induces a crime that a person would not otherwise commit. Criminal Procedure: The Fourth Amendment protects against unreasonable searches and seizures. Most searches require a warrant based on probable cause. Exceptions to the warrant requirement include search incident to arrest, exigent circumstances, consent searches, the automobile exception, plain view doctrine, and border & administrative searches. The Exclusionary Rule makes illegally obtained evidence inadmissible in court. The Fruit of the Poisonous Tree doctrine extends this to evidence derived from an illegal search, with some exceptions. The lecture serves as an introduction to defenses and the Fourth Amendment. The following lecture will discuss the Fifth and Sixth Amendment protections.

In this episode, Belynda shares about her passion for – and deep experience with – the vital importance of receiving lots of listening if we are wanting to listen to our children's feelings. Belynda shares about the details of Listening Partnerships, which is a term from Hand in Hand Parenting and which offers specific parameters to create deeper safety and healing. Belynda shares about her experience of coming to Hand in Hand Parenting when her children were in early childhood, after experiencing both frequent night waking (every 40 minutes) and, once her second child was born, her own unexpressed feelings starting to bubble up. She shares the breakthrough experiences she had when she first came across Hand in Hand Parenting, and when she had her first session with a Hand in Hand Parenting Instructor and Trainer, Ann Hefferan, which inspired her to go on and become a Hand in Hand Parenting Instructor herself. Belynda shares about the next part of her journey, and discovering Aware Parenting. She also talks about the process of having lots of LP support when editing the books. I felt that I was drawn more to the end of the pipeline, more to the beginning of the pipeline, so I was more drawn into lighting and compositing." Virtual production was the most logical choice for Masters of the Air due to logistical, budgetary and creative reasons. Virtual production is still in its infancy with lots of room for technological development. Extraction of foreground elements from LED screens is an important area of research. Virtual production fosters real-time collaboration and creativity compared to traditional segmented workflows. However, on-set experience and mentorship is still crucial. Actors appreciate virtual production as it helps their performances by providing interactive environments rather than pure green screen.   Xavier Bernasconi Bio Xavier Bernasconi is a VFX Supervisor at DNEG.
