You have heard it said that there are only two certainties in life: death and taxes. I'm here to add a third certainty to life: temptation. Temptation exists everywhere because we still have sin within us. Its power has been broken by our putting our faith in Christ and having the Spirit living inside us. This means that we don't have to sin every time temptation comes along like we did before Christ. But we aren't away from sin's presence yet. And if there is anything we learn about temptation is that it is persistent, usually more so than we are. Joseph's case turned out to be different than a lot of ours. Despite the constant temptation, Joseph, quite impressively, resisted it. One theologian thought that Joesph's ability to rule himself was more impressive than running the country of Egypt (Matthews). How do temptations actually work? How did Joseph resist them so well? How can we learn how to resist temptations better? Do things always go better when you resist temptation? We will try to answer those questions as we look at our two points today: Temptations want your loyalty, yet only God will be loyal to you.
Revelation Dates: November – December, 1832 Revelation Places: Kirtland, Ohio Section 85 - Historical Background: Since receiving the previous section 84, Joseph had continued with the revision of the bible. Disturbing reports from the saints in Missouri reached Joseph, apparently related to the failure of vital points of obedience under the Law of Consecration. Influenced by the Spirit of the Lord, Joesph replied in a letter to W. W. Phelps, a portion of which became section 85. Recap: Deficiencies within the leadership of the church in Missouri are discussed. Clerk John Whitmer was delinquent in keeping adequate records of the affairs of the church and of properties consecrated to and from the Bishop. Also, previous warning to Bishop Edward Partridge regarding consecrated property was still being neglected. Apostates should have their names and linage stricken from the records of the church. If Bishop Partridge does not correct his failed actions, he will be struck down. One mighty and strong will arise to set up Zion in righteousness and assign the saints their inheritances. Section 86 - Historical Background: While revising the New Testament, Joseph and Sidney Rigdon came across the parable of the wheat and the tares found in Matthew 13. Joseph was prompted that this parable was especially relevant within the restoration of the kingdom. He made a plea to the Lord for further clarification. Recap: The field is the world, the apostles are the sowers of the wheat seed, and the adversary sowed the seeds of tares. The restored priesthood will remain until the restoration of all things. Continue to be the light and the savior of people through the priesthood. Section 87 - Historical Background: This section predicts the Civil War 28 years before it occurred and 81 years before World War I. Slavery was a toxic topic among the people, including the saints. In 1832, Congress passed a law requiring tariffs on exports to be paid to the Federal Government. The southern states objected to these tariffs and South Carolina passed a state law abolishing all Federal tariffs, citing them as unconstitutional. They also threatened to secede from the Union. This act of rebellion nearly resulted in war, until South Carolina backed down. Reflecting on slavery and these crucial issues, Joseph received this revelation and future prophecy. Recap: War will begin in South Carolina and will result in the death of many souls. The states will be divided, northern against southern. The time will come that war will be waged among all nations worldwide. There will be bloodshed and mourning in all the earth, with famines, plagues, earthquakes and thunderings. The saints will plead with the Lord for protection. The Lord proclaims to the righteous, “Stand ye in holy places, and be not moved” until the Lord comes, who comes quickly.
Genesis 38 doesn't get nearly the respect and love it should. Many look at this chapter as an unnecessary and disturbing interruption to the story of Joesph, a generally positive story of redemption. Looking at the content of the story, it is easy to see why people think that. We all have some section of our lives we regret, and it would seem that we are looking at Judah's season of regret here. Why dwell on the gross sins of one of the brothers when we could be focusing on the more positive portrait of Joseph? After all, this doesn't describe most of our lives as good Presbyterians, so what is there even to learn from here? But this is actually a critical chapter for the story of Genesis, our Christian lives generally, and even contributes to the overall story of Jesus. Genesis 38 is critical to the book as a whole because Joseph is not the only character in this section of Genesis. Judah's roles is arguably equally important. Rather than just focus on God's redemption of Joseph's circumstances, we are seeing in this chapter, the beginnings of God's redemption of Judah's character (Matthews). We can't see how far God brings him if we don't know where he started from, and this chapter shows us that sinful starting line. Hopefully, this will give you hope for what God can do in your life. This chapter is critical because of what it has to say for your Christian life today. Because of the sexual misadventures aplenty we see here, we tend to focus on those and not look at all the foundational sins that actually lead to those moments. There are many “smaller” sins that are actually quite common to us all shot through this passage that we can learn a great deal from. Hopefully, this will make us more grateful for Jesus' sacrifice for those sins after seeing them in their proper light. Finally, this chapter is critical because of what it tells us about Jesus' family. We are going to tie all of this together under our two points, Little sins are big obstacles to family commitments, yet Jesus has died for the little sins, too.

Growing up emersed in his mother's French-Canadian family, Joseph enjoyed hearing the stories told by his grandparents and great aunts of a mysterious and magical place called Québec, otherwise known as “the place we came from.”After high school, Joseph's adventurous nature led him to enlist in the U.S. Army and he served in the Army's airborne forces as a paratrooper jumping out of perfectly good airplanes, much to the worry of his mother.Since he retired from the Army, Joseph has worked in various project manager roles as a civilian contractor for the U.S. Air Force. While writing Old Grandmother's Tree, Joseph took a sabbatical from the U.S. Air Force and taught mathematics to young students for a semester at Holy Family Academy in Gardner Massachusetts.Bolton is of French-Canadian, Native American, Spanish, English, and Irish descent, and is profoundly inspired by the stories of his heritage. He lives with his wife in Massachusetts, and, in his free time, enjoys hiking and skiing through Québec and New England landscapes. His favorite places to go for outdoor adventure are the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts and Mont-Orford in Québec. When he is not writing, hiking, or skiing, Joseph enjoys reading about science, history, philosophy, mathematics, and worldwide mythologies. Old Grandmother's Tree is his first book.Meet the IllustratorAbout Natasha Pelley-SmithNatasha Pelley-Smith, born in Toronto, is a seasoned professional artist who graduated from the prestigious Écohlcité fine arts academy in France, in 2017—now integrated into Émile Chol of Lyon. Joseph is a 2L at Ohio Northern University College of Law and works as a Legal Assistant at Swartz, Culleton, and Ferris. Joseph's journey to Law School is full of twists, turns, and amazing insights! Joseph and I start at his graduation from Wyoming Catholic College where he graduated with a degree in Liberal Arts. We would discuss his experience at Lowes, which offered extremely valuable people skills and laid the foundations for skills he still uses to this day, further offering the importance of those odd jobs. We then spoke about his 2 years at NJM Insurance Group where Joseph would be taking up to 100 phone calls a day. As well it was also a job through LinkedIn, showing how important it is to put yourself out there. Joesph also gained new perspectives and got a peek into the insurance world. We then moved to Joseph's entry into Ohio Northern University College of Law. We spoke about what went into his decision to enter law school and the important mentors he had along the way. Joseph would speak about his first year of law school, which he both loved and hated. He loved the school part but felt it was socially difficult due to its competitive nature. He gives the advice to treat it like a job. Finally, Joseph and I spoke about the internships he has held along the way, finding the specialization he wants to do through them. Joseph would also harp on the idea of avoiding the social problems and drama that come with law school, and always take the opportunity to talk to those not a part of the Law School, to take your mind off things. Why do some people have seemingly miraculous healings while others do not? Why do some people who are diagnosed with a terminal disease decline rapidly while others with the same disease live longer than expected? According to our guest today, teacher and author Joseph Selbie, we all have innate soul powers for healing, and it IS possible to take charge of our own health. He believes that no disease is incurable. Today Joseph discusses his new book, “The Physics of Miraculous Healing -- How Emotion, Mind, and Spirit Enable Unlimited Self-Healing.” The modern medical system tends to believe that miraculous healing is nearly impossible. While they consider certain diseases to be terminal, there is still a tiny fraction of people who do not die. Medicine cannot explain why. Physics can better explain this phenomenon. Classical physics is a matter-centered view of reality. That was the predominant method of physics upon which modern medicine is based. This began to change nearly 100 years ago, starting with Einstein and his ideas and particularly his theory of special relativity which states that there is no such thing as matter. Matter is energy in another form or pattern. The universe is made of energy. Quantum Physics then further explains how all of matter is purely energy. It has 2 behaviors – it can be stable, or it can behave like formless waves. According to Joesph, some or all of the atoms or molecules in our bodies can take on the formless waves of energy for healing. The body is like a holograph. We live in a holographic universe. This comes from M-Theory – the leading physics of today. This states we essentially exist in 2 worlds. One of matter, and one of pure energy. We project the universe into being. We can impact this energetic world. We can do this through prayer and intention. This is why prayer can work. It involves signals being sent through this seamless energy realm. We cannot exist without it. Our thoughts, beliefs, and emotions have an immediate effect on our subtle energy. This is similar to a broadcast signal. We are constantly, and unintentionally, affecting our bodies and also the lives of people around us. Once we realize this, we can learn to be much more deliberate about the signals we send out. For example, if you listen to the news, to the anger, the violence, that's an unintentional signal that we are sending all the time. This shapes us. You can actually track the response of negative news. The primary way that we send signals is through our emotions and connection to spirit. We are constantly sending out signals. It affects us and everyone around us. This involves our emotions and our deeply held beliefs. But we can change them, if we so choose. We can do things to make our emotions more positive, make our beliefs less limited, and we can connect more deeply to our spirit or God within. Once we connect to this, we see we are part of Infinite Intelligence. We can use this power for healing. We see that when large groups of people intend together, it can have dramatic effects. Joseph also shares stories of people who have experienced miraculous healings. He talks about a man who was hospitalized with lymphoma. This man was an innate optimist. He read an article about a new chemotherapy treatment that was available at the hospital were he was. After talking to his doctor, he was able to receive this new treatment. He began to feel so much better, to the point he could leave the hospital and fly home unaided. Joseph continued the story by saying about a month later, this same man read another article that stated the experimental chemo actually did not work. He got sick again and went back to the hospital. The doctor told him that there was another experimental drug, which he tried, then he felt better and went home. He then read another article about this treatment which stated that it also didn't work. The man fell ill again, then passed away within two days. Joesph talks about this cautionary tale and our beliefs. He reminds us that we need to believe in ourselves and our own innate ability to heal. People who have been told they have a certain amount of time to live tend to typically die around that time. The medical community does so much to heal, but beliefs can sometimes be stronger. This is Part 1 of the interview. Info: josephselbie.com

Senior Pastor David Dwight continued our series on ordinary people called by an extraordinary God with a message on Moses. The Lord called on Moses to ask Pharoah to free the Israelites, but Moses felt he was inadequate for the job. He even asked God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” The Lord answered him, not with precise answers, but by promising His presence. This passage tells us that the good news is that it's not so much about us, but God with us. It's not that we have all the perfect character traits, strengths, and abilities to do the job, but that we faith in the Lord. The common thread between Abraham, Joesph, Moses, and all the other people we will cover in Walk On, is that they were faithful + obedient in saying yes to Him.
Tom Riello is on LA Catholic Morning to contemplate what it means when the devil tells the truth, John Cuddeback explores what a man proposes when he asks for marriage, and Joseph Pronechan covers his article "Do This in Memory of Me," highlighting Eucharistic Art.

He has been tolerating clear liquids for the past 24 h and voided a small amount around 2 h ago. He feels “a little bit hungry but I am afraid to eat or I might throw up again. I still feel a little bit sick to my stomach.” Joesph reports that he is on the wresting team at his high school and that, “For the past week, one guy after another got this same thing.” VS are within normal limits and denies dizziness with position change from supine to sit or stand. Confidence Hack #19: The Paradox of Provision and how that led to over one billion cups of coffee served by Starbucks. A paradox is an absurd statement that, when investigated or explained, may prove well-founded... Well, what the heck does that mean?! It means that even when all seems to be going in the wrong direction when everything seems to be crumbling, you might get everything you wanted. Howard Schultz was born a long way from what would one day become the Starbucks empire. He started as a salesman for Xerox, barely making ends meet. But all the while, Howard knew he was destined for success. Joesph, of the bible, was sold into slavery by his brothers. He was then thrown in prison for crimes he did not commit. Yet God lifted him to the right hand of Pharoh. God will work at any given moment in your life. When things are as bad as they can be, they will instantly turn for the best! Gain confidence today, knowing that anything you are struggling through will turn for the better when you least expect it, even today! Hey! If you love this show, share it with family and friends! It's the best way to help get this info into the hands of people who want to grow and become the most CONFIDENT LEADERS they can be! And please throw us a 5-star review!
