The Bright Wings: Children's Books to Make the Heart Soar podcast is an incredibly helpful resource for parents and educators seeking high-quality children's literature. The host, Charity Hill, provides adult reflections and reviews on various topics and books, which I find to be incredibly insightful. What sets this podcast apart is the brevity of each episode, making it perfect for busy parents like myself who can only squeeze in a podcast between activities. I appreciate Charity's ability to be clear and concise while still providing valuable information.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is the interviews that Charity conducts. She chooses the right topics and asks questions that we all want to know. These interviews add depth and variety to the podcast, keeping it engaging and informative. Additionally, as a parent of voracious readers, I am always on the lookout for high-quality books for my children. Charity's recommendations and feedback are invaluable in helping me find excellent materials that nourish their hearts and souls.

While there are many positive aspects of this podcast, one area that could be improved upon is including book recommendations for parents as well. As a lifelong reader with full shelves for my kids, I have found great value in Charity's guidance and booklists. However, it would be wonderful if she also included some picks for us mamas too!

In conclusion, The Bright Wings: Children's Books to Make the Heart Soar podcast is a true gem for parents who want to share literature with their children thoughtfully and intentionally but might not have the time to preview all available books themselves. Charity Hill has done the hard work for us and presents everything with thoughtfulness and care. Her honest reviews, high standards, and scholarly insights make this podcast an essential resource for finding the best and most beautiful books for our children.

HOW Fiction Educates for a Life of Virtue

Why do we read? Two views predominate! Some want children to read (classic works of) fiction because fiction is a useful tool. Fiction illustrates or instructs  children in the moral life. Others want children to read because reading is pleasurable--and they resist any attempts to make fiction serve a purpose because reading fiction is not about utility. Yet, there is a third way! Charity leads us to Aristotle, Jesus, and Aquinas, to understand what integrated virtue is. We'll see HOW fiction works in the life of Ignatius of Loyola. And we'll dive into some aesthetics with Charity as she shows us how Beauty in fiction impacts desire and action. Children like this era because hard moral choices and suffering are contexualized by singular and personal characters. Best of all, literature set in this era often affirms that "a light has shown in the darkness, but the darkness has not overcome it."
