I am a busy man and will die knowing I have not said all I wanted to say. But maybe I can at least leave some IOUs behind. 1) Blatant conflicts are the best kind Ben Hoffman's "Blatant Lies are the Best Kind!" is maybe the best post title followed by the least clarifying post I have ever encountered. The title is honestly amazing, but the text of the post, instead of a straightforward argument that the title promises, is an extremely dense and almost meta-fictional dialogue about the title: I think we probably should prosecute good lying more than bad lying, though of course that's tricky. I'd argue the same is true for other forms of conflict: passive aggression is worse than overt aggression, maybe, probably. I haven't written the post yet to figure it out, but it seems important to know. 2) Fire codes are the root of all evil Fire accidents seem to have the unique combination of producing extremely strong emotional responses by people in a local community, while also often being traceable to an o-ring like failure that you can over-index on. Also, fire marshals are the closest [...] ---Outline:(00:18) 1) Blatant conflicts are the best kind(01:11) 2) Fire codes are the root of all evil(02:14) 3) It is extremely easy to get people to vouch for you, this makes public character references not very helpful(02:54) 4) Public criticism need not pass the ITT of the people critiqued(03:41) 5) Courts are amazing[... 5 more sections]--- First published: April 21st, 2026 Source: https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/MqgwHJ93pJpaeHXs6/10-posts-i-don-t-have-time-to-write --- Narrated by TYPE III AUDIO. ---Images from the article:Apple Podcasts and Spotify do not show images in the episode description. The Best Kind of Faith starts with a question that gets personal fast: If your life is a commercial, what are you advertising? This message invites you to move beyond a faith that only believes and into the kind of faith that actually does what Jesus says.If your spiritual life has felt stagnant, routine, or disconnected, this message from Luke 3 will help you rediscover what real faith looks like. Through the bold words of John the Baptist, we see that the best kind of faith isn't performative, comfortable, or checkbox religion—it's active, practical, and lived out in the way you love people every day. You'll discover:Why belief is the starting line, not the finish lineHow real faith shows up in practical love and generosityWhat keeps your faith from becoming stagnant or lifelessWhy deep faith is built through deep actions, not just deep teachingThe one prayer that can change how you follow Jesus this weekThis message is for anyone who's been asking, “Why does my faith feel stuck?” or “How do I actually grow?” The answer may be simpler—and more challenging—than you think: ask God, “What should I do?” and then follow through.Because the best kind of faith is not the version that asks, “What's in it for me?” It's the kind that trusts Jesus enough to obey, even when it's uncomfortable. That's where growth happens. That's where you encounter God. And that's the kind of faith that changes the world.
This week we are heading across the channel to talk about how one of the many Anglo-French spats during the middle ages resulted in the creation of one of the most effective pirates who has ever sailed the high seas (of the English Channel). After her husband was executed (murdered) by the French king, Jeanne de Clisson swore revenge. However being an eminently practical woman, she ensured that her revenge. would have staying power. Two decades to be precise. This is a tale of dysfunctional marriages, power grabbing and justified anger. Which could only be untangled by a man from Yorkshire named Walter.Guest Host: Emma Heathcote Hosted on Acast. Dani Vee and Frances Whiting , a senior feature writer and award winning journalism chat about the brilliant The Nocturnals. They chat about: ⭐️ The power of nostalgia. ⭐️ How far would you go to protect the people you love? ⭐️ How does a career in journalism impact writing fiction? ⭐️ Whether they were cool, gla or dangerous as teenagers. ⭐️ Working full time and writing. From the bestselling author of The Best Kind of Beautiful, Frances Whiting, comes an endearing, wise and witty novel of love and friendship, which asks, how far would you go, to protect the people you love? In the summer of 1997, five high school students meet. Nina, the Good Girl. Beatrice, The Poetess. Harriet, the Ghost. Cosmo, the Professor. And Hunter, the Golden Boy. In their last year of school, they become inseparable, five sides of the same star, until a fault line cracks between them, scattering them to all corners of the globe. Now, fifteen years later, Hunter has called them with his conch shell lips to return to the place where they lived and laughed and cried together, before secrets were whispered, and promises were broken. No-one knows why he has assembled them, but there is no question they will go. Because to outsiders, they might be, in turns, a little bit weird, a little bit glamorous, and a little bit dangerous. But to each other, they are, and always will be, The Nocturnals. From bestselling author Frances Whiting comes an irresistible, witty, darkly delightful and utterly endearing novel of friendship - and the lengths we will go to protect those who we love. ‘Joyous, deep, funny and so bloody gripping. Hooked me, heart and soul. Whiting's words are so full of life. Aching, puzzling, heartbreaking, magnificent life.' Trent Dalton, bestselling author of Gravity Let Me Go

In this episode, The Annuity Man discussed: Building an income floor before chasing growth Using annuities for risk transfer, not market upside Avoiding hype and choosing guarantees that last Key Takeaways: Retirement is about securing essential expenses with contractual guarantees, not chasing hypothetical returns. The priority is creating an income floor through sources like Social Security, pensions, and properly structured annuities. Once that foundation is set, the rest of the portfolio can pursue growth without threatening stability. Annuities are transfer-of-risk products, not growth engines meant to mirror the stock market. They are designed to provide principal protection, lifetime income, legacy options, and long-term care support. Buying them for upside potential misunderstands their purpose and creates misplaced expectations. Promises of upside with no downside, flashy bonuses, and inflated back-tests are red flags because nothing in an annuity is free. The right questions are what you want the money to contractually do and when those guarantees should begin. Strong lifetime income planning also requires highly rated carriers, since once you commit, there are no mulligans. "What's the best annuity? The answer is, it's the one that solves for your specific situation and provides the highest contractual guarantee with a solid, highly rated company." — Stan The Annuity Man Connect with The Annuity Man: Website: http://theannuityman.com/ Email: Stan@TheAnnuityMan.com Book: Owner's Manuals: https://www.stantheannuityman.com/how-do-annuities-work YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCXKKxvVslbeGAlEc5sra2g Get a Quote Today: https://www.stantheannuityman.com/annuity-calculator!

It was so much fun having Carla Hall in the studio. Carla Hall is a chef and TV host who is currently serving as judge on Fox's Next Level Baker, a show that tests both professional and home bakers on their baking bona fides. In this episode, Carla shares some great baking ideas for the holidays, and she answers the question that some of us have been asking: What is Gordon Ramsay like in real life? And, at the top of the show, it's the return of Three Things, where Aliza and Matt talk about what is exciting them in the world of restaurants, cookbooks, and the food world as a whole. The show's hosts were on the road and report back about what they ate during their travels, including Aliza making stops for onion rings at Frisko Freeze and a big serving of vibes at Bob's Java Jive in Tacoma, Washington. Matt visited Cleveland and was blown away by the creative Midwestern cooking at Cordelia, the waffles fries with Ranch and sharp comfort cooking at Heart of Gold, and a little museum called the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In Seattle, Aliza has short rib and dry pho at Phở Bắc. And we couldn't forget about New York, and Aliza enjoys her visit to Zeena Bakery at the Ft. Greene Farmers Market. In this deeply personal and politically urgent conversation, Dr. David Johns welcomes his White House family—Deesha Dyer, former Social Secretary to President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama—for a raw discussion about what we lose when power demolishes history, and what endures when community builds with intention.Deesha takes us inside the moment she saw excavators tearing down the East Wing of the White House in October 2025—the space where she orchestrated state dinners, opened doors for people who never thought they'd walk through them, and made the People's House truly belong to the people. This conversation moves from the rubble of demolished institutions to the unshakeable foundation of community organizing. Deesha shares lessons learned from Michelle Obama about grace under pressure, why she wrote Undiplomatic for Black girls who "risk it all," and what defending democracy actually looks like in practice: investing in local organizations, letting leaders lead in their expertise, documenting our work, and showing up for each other with intention.Deesha's story is a masterclass in refusing to let imposter syndrome—or anyone else—define your worth. As she reminds us: buildings can be demolished in 72 hours, but they can't demolish the memories, the legacy, or the collective power we build together. This is required listening for anyone who believes that mutual aid isn't charity—it's how we survive, build, and love each other into liberation.Website: DeeshaDyer.comInstagram: @deedyer267Email: deesha@deeshadyer.com (She answers every email!)Book: Undiplomatic: How My Attitude Created the Best Kind of Trouble(Available at libraries and independent bookstores)Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/teach-the-babies-w-dr-david-j-johns--6173854/support.
The Best Kind of Content on LinkedIn is the Kind That Starts Conversations....Most people post on LinkedIn hoping someone will see it.But the real power of LinkedIn content isn't visibility, it's connection. If your content doesn't give you a reason to message someone, you're leaving leads on the table. That's why the best content to create isn't random tips or inspiration; it's content that permits you to start a conversation. Here are three of my favorite types:✅ LinkedIn Polls — You can message everyone who votes. Ask a strategic question and open a genuine dialogue with your voters.

NBN host Hollay Ghadery speaks with Jacob McArthur Mooney about his debut novel, The Northern, published by ECW Press in 2025. “The Northern is both a tender-hearted, contemplative coming-of-age novel and adventure-filled road trip story that brings a unique time in sports history to life.” ― Zoe Whittall, author of The Fake and The Best Kind of People “W.P. Kinsella has company: Jacob Mooney has written another classic Canadian novel about baseball.” ― Ben Lindbergh, co-host of Effectively Wild and author of The MVP Machine and The Only Rule Is It Has to Work It is the summer of 1952 and three men ― well, one man and two boys ― are on a spiritual and commercial mission. Dispatched from Minnesota to Western Ontario, they have been hired by an upstart Mormon baseball card company to find licensees for their products among the young men filing out Korean War–era rosters in the Northern League, at the bottom-most rung of professional baseball. What the Northern has for them, and the secrets and deceptions they have for each other, will drive their two weeks in Canada into ever-growing chaos. With a world shaped by the trauma of World War II and the generations of deflated adults and orphaned children left behind by it, The Northern sets out on a clear-eyed and psychologically precise character study taking on grief, fantasy, adolescence, and family. As the narrator for this story of salesmen and ambitious athletes, 12-year-old Chris is a budding acerbic, able to be carried away by the ― often empty ― hopes of others and put his feet in the ground to stop them. A novel concerned with sports, labor, growing up, and God, The Northern is a funny and heartbreaking book about the series of disappointments that characterize the progress of growing up. About Jacob McArthur Mooney: Jacob McArthur Mooney's work has been shortlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize and the Trillium Award in Poetry. In this episode - we wonder where Logan's hiding, Bindles has a connection to a new MP, Michael's had a house guest, we do our civic duty, Nimrod reveals the difference between 24 and 25, Bindles provides some new clips for the soundboard, Michael has a money-saving tip (take that, Jordon Cox!), there might have been an unaired mini-challenge, Bindles contemplates winning ten Harmstone Points, Logan misses out on being lied to, we obviously talk about the two most important non-Mole reality TV shows of the moment, there are the latest updates to the Pool and First Suspicions, we check on the pre-season bingo board, our final set of suspects are locked in, there is the usual pre-finale plea for questions and we ask - has Logan sent any voice notes? Today, we're digging into specifics about food that you haven't heard on the show before. This one may very well influence you to rethink your “healthy” diet and change how you feel about food completely. To get there, I'm excited to welcome back Teri Cochrane, an integrative practitioner and pioneer in personalized healthcare. Teri is the founder of the Global Sustainable Health Institute® and developer of The Cochrane Method®, a future-facing algorithm for decoding the human body. Teri is also one of the world's leading experts on dietary amyloids, which is a topic I love talking about. In today's episode, we get into what amyloids are and how they turn on viruses, cause cancer, and shorten our lives. We also explore the dangers of oxalates and histamines, plus hacks to reduce and release them. Teri and I both have our own recipes for releasing oxalates that you can try at home (they're surprisingly simple). We talk about how dirty poultry is killing us—and how superfoods like kale and almonds aren't any better. We break down the benefits of regenerative farming, and share ways to make your dollar stretch if you can't afford grass-fed meat. Plus, Teri tells us what she personally eats.
