Jenn is joined by Jonathan Pageau to talk about his eight-book fairy tale series and why it's so important to reclaim these ancient stories to proclaim truth and beauty to a world in need. Fairytales aren't just for children but are an important part of shaping children's minds. What do you think? "Jonathan Pageau is a renowned liturgical artist, writer, and public speaker. Jonathan started a publishing company called Symbolic World Press (SWP). SWP's maiden publication is The Tale of Snow White and the Widow Queen, the first of an eight-book series of fairy tales in which Pageau explores a new way of telling fairy tales: one which is both aware of our cultural moment and simultaneously committed to honoring the deeply celebratory of the roots these stories have planted in our common imagination. David Harris is an Australian actor who somehow found himself moving from architecture school to the bright lights of Broadway. He shares his early passion for architecture and how he pivoted to a career in performing arts just three days into his studies. He looks back on his journey, including participating in talent quests at RSL clubs in Australia and having friendly competitions with Broadway performer Ricky Rojas. Being in the workshop and eventually being cast in "The Boy From Oz" marked a significant turning point in his career and what he considers his claim to fame. He reminisces about his experience working with Hugh Jackman in the show, and a memorable commercial shoot with him just before New York shut down for COVID (click here to watch). David reflects on the differences in how musical theatre is perceived in Australia, the UK, and the US, his personal experiences with it, and his frustrations with the lack of recognition for musical theatre actors in Australia compared to Broadway performers in the US. He emphasizes the critical importance of swings and understudies in theatre, and his gratitude for them in keeping the show running smoothly. While he's already managed to prove naysayers wrong, David has no plans on stopping when it comes to the pursuit of growth and constant learning. David Harris is a native of Australia, where he's one of the most acclaimed leading men of his generation. In the US, he has received critical praise for his performance of Dan in TheatreWorks' “Next to Normal”. He starred as Jean Valjean in the Connecticut Repertory Theatre production of “Les Misérables”, which was co-starred and directed by Tony Award winner Terrence Mann. He starred as Billy Crocker in Goodspeed's production of “Anything Goes” and as Father in Barrington Stage Company's “Ragtime” in 2017. He originated the role of Max Bronfman in Stephen Schwartz's new production of “Rags” at Goodspeed Opera House. After playing the role of the Duke on the first national tour of “Moulin Rouge” in 2022, he can now be seen playing the same role in “Moulin Rouge” on Broadway. We love the words truth, goodness, and beauty...but if someone asked us to explain what these are, maybe we'd be flummoxed? In this episode, Charity puts flesh into these concepts: Charity helps us see truth, identify beauty, and recognize goodness in children's books and gives us concrete examples of these concepts from books we know. After she walks us through her own book discernment process, Charity dispels two common myths that prevent us from being responsible literary guardians. You can print this amazing LITERATURE DISCERNMENT WORKSHEETFind quick book recommendations by following Charity on Instagram.Enjoy essays on the Bright Wings' blog OR find great book lists personally crafted with you in mind!
Is the world a good place? Is truth relative? Can beauty be defined? On this episode of ID the Future from the archive, host David Klinghoffer speaks with Dr. Ann Gauger, Director of Science Communication and a Senior Fellow at Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture, about her article “The Transcendental Treasury of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness” at EvolutionNews.org. These abstract concepts don't derive from the material world, yet we feel impoverished without them; they're foundations of a life worth living. Materialistic evolutionary explanations for truth, beauty, and goodness are out there, but they fall flat upon closer inspection. Some of them even reduce these qualities to mere illusion. Gauger holds that truth, beauty, and goodness are hallmarks of a designed world. Meditating on them can promote a spirit of gratitude, an important part of a healthy, happy life. Source

Rafe goes solo this week to discuss John Keats' Ode on a Grecian Urn. In it we learn that all we know, and all we need to know, is that Beauty is Truth. The discussion takes a trip through the symbols in the poem and how the Things of Old are passed down through time to us and how those things help align our souls to seek the ultimate Good.Along the way, we bump into our old friends Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle and discuss their influence on Augustine and Aquinas. We wrap up with the Carpe Diem admonition from the 1980's movie Dead Poet's Society and discover that Keats' Grecian Urn and the old photos in DPS both speak to the present from the past, encouraging us to align ourselves with the Good and seize the day."Gather ye rosebuds while ye may."

Truth, beauty, and goodness - how ought we to think of and relate to them, and can we embody them? Perhaps not perfectly, no. But it's a noble endeavor to study, ponder, and pursue these three, and to celebrate when they're encountered. And this is why we homeschool, by the way. But speaking seriously, truth and beauty and goodness are close cousins. What is good must be in alignment with the truth, and something true and good is inherent to those people, places, and things which we call objectively beautiful. "The Earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof." And whatever He entrusts to us, contentment is found in remembering that everything is made by God and still belongs to Him and is for Him. This is why one of the Ten Commandments is to not covet anything that belongs to our neighbor. This is also why grumbling and murmuring are serious sins against our Maker. In essence, to grumble and complain with how much or little we have of this or that is to find fault with God, as if He made a mistake or was unjust. For that matter, consider the case of Joseph and his brothers. The coat of many colors their father had given made them hate him. But what did they do with it when they took it from him? They tore it to pieces and smeared it with blood to try and make their story of why Joseph wouldn't be around anymore stick. The actions of Joseph's brothers against him were not good. The once beautiful coat was no longer beautiful when it was presented to Jacob. And the story told about a wild animal tearing their brother to pieces was not true! Nevertheless, God was still good. There still was the truth of the Lord's purpose. And how the whole business worked out to the saving from famine of all of Joseph's family and many more besides, plus the reconciliation of a family torn apart by bitterness and jealousy - that was beautiful indeed in the end. So also in our circumstances. They may not always be pretty, but what God is doing in them will always in the end be true and beautiful and good. And we should remember that fact, and meditate on it in the midst of a world which will continue on in being very much broken until Christ returns and remakes it. In so remembering and meditating, we will find both wisdom and righteousness, and a peace that surpasses all understanding. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/garrett-ashley-mullet/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/garrett-ashley-mullet/support

Welcome back to The Logosians Podcast! We are still on a break from our Lion and the Ring series, and continuing in our new series called Extinguishing Doubt. This is the 12th episode overall, and the 2nd in our new series. Extinguishing Doubt is a new segment in which we discuss Christian Apologetics and other related topics. In this episode we will continue our discussion on apologetics, the centrality of the Resurrection, and the Transcendentals: Truth, Beauty and Goodness. We will continue to discuss influences on our thinking like C.S. Lewis, as well as Paul Gould and his books Cultural Apologetics. Combining Lewis and Gould, we also bring back Holland to talk about how the Christian story is a more thorough and fulfilling explanation of reality, as well as how to make it more plainly known in our culture today. This is the final part(of 2) of our discussion. The Logosians Podcast is made up of a fellowship of good friends and is centered around Faith, Freedom, Fatherhood, and Fantasy. Join us on our quest through the entire legendarium of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, and more! Featured in today's episode are Joshua Jolly, Dillon Alexander, Charlie Bates, and Derek Johnson. Note: This is Part 2 of our conversation with Dr. West. Cornel West begins this episode by responding to a question from the producer: has the advancement of technology created a culture in which the desire for wisdom is supplanted by the demand for instant access to information? He also discusses modern conceptions of identity and the way in which these conceptions have become detached from larger questions and ideals, the elements of education and life that lead to personal fortification, and the dialectical interplay between one's familial "roots" and the routes that a person takes in life. Dr. West also discusses curricula, the notions of excellence in texts, and the ways in which this excellence builds upon itself and reveals that truth is bigger than all of us.
