In this episode of the Decoding Excellence Show, I'm discussing some of the new things we're doing around University of Colorado Boulder. It's been some time since I've been behind the microphone and I'm just dusting off the thing. We talk about some of the new technologies we're utilizing within our athletic department, some of the new pre-participation athlete benchmarking we're conducting, and a general run-down of our summer staff. It was a fun show where I break out the microphone and headphones and get rapping about what's on my mind. If your a fan of sports performance technologies, it's usage within high performance sport organizations, I think you'll get A LOT out of this show. As a reminder, our Random Shows shows are a quick 15-25 minute episode where I typically discuss current industry trends, research reads, current events, and occasionally offer my insights into the training process that we're undertaking each week. In this episode of the Decoding Excellence Show, I'm speaking with Industry Veteran and High Performance Practitioner, Dan Howells. Dan has experience at US Ski & Snowboard, the English Institute of Sport (EIS), Rugby Union and Rugby 7s, and most recently, in the Major League Baseball (MLB) Houston Astros organization. You do not want to miss this show! Dan recently formed Collaborate Sports during the initial lockdowns through COVID as a means of connecting developing coaches and practitioners through a personal development focus. Since then, he has reached over 400 hundred practitioners from varying countries using the personal development platform he has created. He provides opportunities to others through Bespoke Coaching/Mentoring, Monthly Interactive Webinars with guest presenters, and the Interactive Personal Development (IPD) Programme. The IPD was the main focus of building a platform to network other coaches together in a learning environment and make mentorship more affordable for younger and developing coaches. The IPD allows 10-12 coaches to partake in a 6-month course, focusing on specific content dependent on the Technical or Non Technical nature of the programmes. Live attendance means interaction is central to the programme where attendees can take the information shared and navigate how to apply it to their own world through the help of Dan and others in the programme. The costs are more affordable due to the group nature of the programme, and the online platform provided to allow coaches to communicate between monthly meet ups means that attendees get to coach and help each other daily as required. Currently, the S&C Technical IPD is open for enrollment with spaces still available for the commencement on January 31st 2021. The programmes reach coaches on all time zones based on running 2 cohorts at any one time. If interested in learning more about the course, you can visit http://collaboratesports.com for more info, or email Dan direct at info@collaboratesports.com to ask questions or arrange an informal discussion about the opportunities Collaborate Sports aims to provide. RJ Abella enters his sixth season as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Gamecocks, working with the program since its inception. Abella came to Carolina in the spring of 2013 as assistant coach for both the indoor and sand volleyball programs and made the transition to full-time beach volleyball assistant in the spring of 2015. He was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association's "30 Under 30" list in 2014, recognizing 30 rising coaching stars at all levels of volleyball who are under 30 years old. Eduardo joined the Buffs after spending four seasons at the University of Denver. In 2016, he served as the director of operations and from 2013-16, he was a volunteer assistant coach. Eduardo, who coached three seasons at Denver, was part of three straight Summit League Championship teams and three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances for the Pioneers. Eduardo has been a coach at the collegiate level since 1997, spending time at five different universities. Eduardo was at Arizona (1997), Cal State-Dominguez Hills (1997-98), Louisiana-Lafayette (1998-99), North Carolina State (2006) and Denver (2013-16).
