Introducing our first Triathlon Nutrition Academy Alumni! Jill Gaudio, Luis Franco Marin and Jason Currie have all just finished 12 months of working on their triathlon nutrition. As a result of understanding fuelling for swim, bike and run, Jill improved her 5km run time by 8 minutes, her 10km run time by 7 minutes and is cycling 6km/hour faster on the bike compared to 12 months ago. She's fuelling and recovering better and as a result has gained muscle mass and decreased fat mass - the ultimate body composition outcomes for a triathlete looking to lean up, without affecting training performance. Luis has struggled to maintain his weight for 10 years and kept getting lots of niggly injuries. Every time he increases his training volume, he drops weight, and not in a good way! But over the last 12 months, he's managed to not only maintain weight, but actually gained 2kg despite ramping up training to race in two 70.3 half Ironman distance events. Jason, our token crazy enduro athlete, came into the program never having a race nutrition plan. He'd just completed 12 Ultra's in 12 months (see, crazy!?) and nutrition was his blind spot. Sunshine Coast 70.3 was his first ever race with a race nutrition plan, developed with a sports dietitian and he took 51 minutes off his personal best time! If you are ready to work on your triathlon nutrition and experience the life changing results these three have, join us inside the Triathlon Nutrition Academy! Doors open soon on January 21st! On this episode, Dr. Alejandro Younger, a cardiologist, pioneer in functional medicine, 3x NYT bestseller and author of "CLEAN 7," shares his journey from traditional cardiologist to holistic healer. When Dr. Junger, was a young adult undergoing his medical training, he went through what too many people often experience: multiple, seemingly unrelated yet compounding, health issues. He soon found himself in a chaotic state of being over-medicated, unimproved, and totally out of balance with the natural rhythms of his own body. With an intuition that an undetermined cause lay at the root, he set out on a journey to find a better solution to his myriad of ailments. Eager to find an answer, he cast aside typical boundaries between Eastern versus Western medicine and ancient wisdom versus modern science. In this episode, he discusses the importance of detoxification and how his program can reset the body and improve mental clarity- not to mention drastically increase life expectancy. Dr. Junger also discusses his perspective on the appropriate diet, the challenges of being a vegan, intermittent fasting and detoxification, and the overwhelming importance of intestinal health. The food we eat gives our bodies the "information" and materials they need to function properly. If we don't get the right information, our metabolic processes suffer, and our health declines. Food acts as medicine--to maintain, prevent, and treat disease. The nutrients in food enable the cells in our bodies to perform their necessary functions. This quote from a popular textbook describes how the nutrients in food are essential for our physical functioning. We have the pleasure of welcoming a superstar in the space of nutrition and eating behaviours onto the Waffle. Fiona Sutherland (@themindfuldietitian) is a sports dietitian with over 15 years of experience in the field. Every time I hear her speak I always leave feeling more confident, calmer and with added insights into better supporting our clients. These times can be really challenging and confronting. There may be a lot of unprocessed emotions ramping up during this time and unexpected events just around the corner. The panic buying as a result of the COVID-19 breakout has caused major concerns to our food availability and our loss of control in so many of life's facets will impact many people's relationship with food. It is this reason that Fiona was the first person that came to mind to discuss what's happening out there at the moment. She share some insights around food behaviours, disordered eating and some particularly prominent red flags to be aware of. Fiona gives us some really pragmatic advice. If you're someone who is experiencing quite a lot of anxiety due to the events happening in the world or someone who typically turns to foods following turmoil, then this is the podcast for you. If you have any question or concerns and would like to reach out, please do so – As always, we are offering all listeners an opportunity for a free assessment here (https://compeatnutrition.typeform.com/to/AayZgf) or live Q&As on our social media if you require some support but can't necessarily afford it right now. We're also releasing as much free content as we can during this tough time to help you navigate it. These are just small ways to give you a few actionable strategies and help you cope with whatever you may be going through.

Nutrition Challenges are big business in the fitness industry and are something we have deliberately shied away from. Not because we don't want to make money. We're a business - We do! But because they tend not to serve the long term interests of the participants well. In most challenges participants are given a restricted calorie diet to follow and when combined with exercise, weight loss occurs. That's all well and good. But what happens after the challenge is over? Have the participants made any fundamental shifts in their eating behaviours (the behaviours that caused them to be carrying excess weight in the first place). Or have they simply been on a diet for a few weeks? In most cases it is the latter and within a a few weeks of the challenge being over, any weight lost creeps back on... until the next challenge... which they can sign up for... and then the next and then the next. It's an out of control cycle of boom or bust. We knew our members wanted to buy into something that gave them accountability in the lead up to the festive season, but we didn't want to issue them with a cookie cutter "diet". So instead, we came up with our own version of a nutrition challenge - more aptly named a Nutrition Bootcamp. No diet plans were issued. No set numbers of calories calculated. No weighing or measuring of food took place. Just a series of tasks rolled out across the 4 week period which participants had to undertake. And the results were staggering! We knew habit based nutrition coaching could achieve great results over a longer time frame - but never did we expect this in just 4 weeks! Join with our coaches Belinda, Greg and Jane as they discuss the nuts and bolts of the nutrition bootcamp, lessons learned and general observations made.
Welcome back to the 310 podcast. In this episode Kris Germain and Jeff Williams welcome back health coach extraordinaire Jen McMhaon. She is a nutrition, health, and fitness coach who loves running, eating lot of broccoli, and having occasional dorito!!! The meat of the podcast centers around the problem with the way most gyms are doing Nutrition Challenges and how CrossFit 310 has turned their Nutrition Game upside down to address the problem of "White Knuckling" your way through things and Utlimately failing again and again. We also delve into a lot of Big Jeffs eating habits, coerce him to run a 5k, and discuss baby steps (thank you Dr. Marvin). All this while trying to fathom the purpose of yacht rock, why anyone would want to run a century race, and why science can't/doesnt/or shouldn't make chocolate flavored broccoli…. @crossfit310 @jeffwilliams702 @ultratrainingwheels @baldsound http://iamuniquelyhealthy.com/ https://www.crossfit310.com/ https://www.crossfithealth.com/ http://www.baldsound.com/
