Lafayette, Louisiana's annual Festivals Acadiens et Creoles is coming up on the second weekend of October. But for festival founder Barry Ancelet, having just one celebration of Acadiana music, cuisine, and customs a year wasn't enough. Folklorist, ethno-musi-cologist, author, and Professor of Francophone Studies at the University of Louisiana Lafayette, Barry Ancelet joins us to tell us more about the new Legacy Series: monthly lectures and musical performances aimed at exploring both historical and contemporary Cajun culture and traditions.  And, while we're months away from the one year anniversary of Hurricane Ida, many Louisiana residents are still feeling the impacts of the storm, particularly, displacement. A Metairie High schooler, Vaishnavi Kumbala, was interested in how storms displace residents, particularly, teenagers. Her article, “Hurricane Season: What It's Like to Be Displaced From Your Home As a Teen,” was recently published in Teen Vogue, commissioned in partnership with the New Orleans Junior Journalism Program. She joins to discuss her reporting experience and what she found. Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Karen Henderson. Our managing producer is Alana Schreiber and our digital editor is Katelyn Umholtz. Our engineers are Garrett Pittman, Aubry Procell, and Thomas Walsh.  You can listen to Louisiana Considered Monday through Friday at 12:00 and 7:30 pm. Florida State Football has been on the wrong side of winnable games the past few seasons. Now, is 2022 the seasons that the college football program can have some upsets of their own. Join the gang today on Locked On Seminoles, your favorite Florida State Seminoles podcast to see where the guys land on these questions. Drake and Dave are running the show today and lead it off with which games they view on the schedule as some "stole wins". Why does Drake feel that Norvell and company can march up into Louisville and stun Heisman sleeper Malik Cunningham under the Friday Night Lights. Does Dave view Tyler Van Dyke is an actual threat to the ACC or will he suffer a sophomore slump when the Hard Rock hosts the biggest rivalry in colleges sports? Most importantly, are potentially ranked squads LSU and Clemson going to drop their first game to Florida State in so many seasons? Next, unfortunately Dave, the conductor of today's experiment, has to take us to games that are potentially traps for Jordan Travis over the season. Does a healthy Phil Jurkovec give the fanbase pause for concern when the Boston College Eagles come to town? Even though they have lost some weapons, Dave Doreen and the NC State Wolfpack may pose a greater threat than ever with Devin Leary, Cory Durden and Cyrus Fagan returning. And lastly, out of Syracuse, Georgia Tech and Louisiana-Lafayette, is another inexcusable loss on the horizon for this Seminoles squad?  To wrap up today's show, Drake has the floor and decides to let the people know what has been troubling him. With the QB room under a microscope over the past few seasons & the lack of transfer QB coming into the fold, is there truly a scenario where AJ Duffy is starting at any point during the season, regardless of Jordan Travis' status. Is this solely based on the potential of the 4-star freshman, or is it simply a case study in what Norvell has shown in the past when managing his QB room.  As always, thanks for making Locked On Seminoles your first listen each and every day. After the news of the firing of Dan Mullen, the Florida Gators had 1 more home game in the swamp vs a in state rival Florida State, Greg Knox the special teams coach was the interim coach and he did a hell of a job for the win. The final score was 24-21 with Gators on top and with that win the gators are bowl eligible and will have a chance to head into 2022 on a positive note. But with even more exciting news the Gators have found there new head coach and his name is Billy Napier, head coach of Louisiana Lafayette and has a amazing track sheet. 4 seasons overall record of 39-12 4x conference champion 3 10 win seasons So it seems to be fitting to bring him in and i personally think this was a good hire but its going to be about the guys he brings in and how well can he recruit, I think its time for Gator Nation to finally have a stepping stool into consistency of a program but what do I know?....Only time will tell Thanks for listening to this episode of the FatFloridaFanPodcast! The Florida Gators fall short in a sec matchup against Missouri, not the outcome you was looking for if your a gator fan but with the outcome of that game has led to Coach Dan Mullen being fired as the Florida Gators Head Coach. Not something people expected to happen after 1 year from being in the sec championship game a year ago but its a fact that Dan Mullen lost his team and could not recover so it was time to part ways. I Wish the best to Dan Mullen in his next job and things but now how does The Gators recover from this? Words are speculating on Coach Billy Napier from Louisiana Lafayette not to sure yet but Florida might be keyed in. With Dan Mullen being fired seems to be Greg Knox will be interim head coach against Fsu with both teams being 5-6, not the season Florida wanted but can they at least win the state of Florida? Mary Hernandez is the Executive Director of Advancement for Our Lady of Wisdom Church and Student Center at the University of Louisiana - Lafayette. Mary is an alum of UL and was a member of the parish prior to receiving an invitation by Fr. Bryce Sibley to help with a fundraising project. Mary accepted and turned a temporary assignment into a full-time position running communications and eventually the development program. In their conversation, Mary and Andrew discuss how the growth of the ministry really spurred growth in their development efforts and how a long-term vision for serving the students of UL has led them to launch a $22M capital campaign to build a new student center.Show Notes:Mary's first job after graduating from University of Louisiana - Lafayette was as a high school teacher. She left that job and went to work for the university in recruitment and orientation. Mary left the job so she could stay home with her children but went back to work when Fr. Bryce Sibley called and asked her to help with a big event at Our Lady of Wisdom. Mary worked in Communications for OLOW for a number of years before moving into the role of Director of Development. One of Mary's early solicitations was with a long-time donor named Kirby. Mary presented Kirby with a large request and he agreed. A few weeks later, Kirby personally thanked Mary for all the work that she was doing and for asking him to take a larger role in development. This demonstrated to Mary that donors are thankful to be invited to give. A friend of Mary once referred to her as the “Minister of Finance” for the work that she does to minister to donors and for her role as a true part of the Ragin Cajun Catholic ministry. Fr. Bryce Sibley's favorite quote is “No money, no mission.” Fr. Bryce is a visionary and pushes the others on staff to be bold and think bigger. This moved Mary to be mindful of the financial health of the ministry and ensure that gifts and donors are appropriately stewarded. Our Lady of Wisdom converted databases a few years ago and now uses Salesforce to manage their mailing list and giving history. They have 20,000 records but primarily communicate with their “All Givers List” which is approximately 5,000 individuals who have given in the past 5-7 years. They apply additional segments depending on the purpose of the mailing. They send out 3-5 appeals per year. OLOW has a very active social media presence but have to change their strategy every 12-18 months to adapt to the changing platforms. Their primary focus is to communicate with the students of UL but alumni, parents and donors are cultivated because this content demonstrates the active nature of the ministry. “The best development work that we can do is to have a strong ministry.”Fr. Bryce and the staff was interested in exploring a capital campaign to build a new church and student center. They approached their Leadership Council to start discussing a project and the Council surprised them by voting unanimously to start a campaign immediately. They approached their local bishop and he invited them to be a part of the diocesan-wide centennial capital campaign. This ensured that they would have $5M toward their building project. They have currently secured $9.2M toward the $22M goal but have taken a slight pause while they work to secure land for the new facility. OLOW has an in-house coffee shop. They were managing the coffee shop for a while but it got to be too much to sustain. Fr. Bryce closed the coffee shop to search for and identify a good partner to manage it properly. Their goal is for the coffee shop to be revenue neutral so that it can be strictly an evangelization tool and not a money maker. Recommended books:Searching for and Maintaining Peace - Fr.
