In this episode, I'm having some fun with the movie "Inside Out 2" and talking about this movie as if Joy, the lead character, were my client! It would be an understatement to say that Joy is a little uncomfortable with the other emotions present in Riley's head, and this isn't unlike many of us who struggle with acknowledging the full range of emotions we experience as humans. So…on this episode I'm delving into the complexities of emotions through the lens of Joy. We discuss Joy's unique role and experiences within Riley's emotional switchboard and how she navigates the challenges of maintaining happiness while acknowledging the full spectrum of emotions. We also address the impact of perfectionism and overwork on Joy's well-being, offering strategies for managing this desire to pursue joy and embracing a more balanced approach to emotional support.   This is a fun conversation and applicable to everyone - even if joy isn't your default emotion. If you tend to get a little uncomfortable with certain emotions, you'll definitely get something from this episode.   Episode Links: She Doesn't Settle Kelly's Website Kelly on Instagram Email - support@kellytravis.net

Sure, it might be an instant relief or feel validating to walk away from the very thing that is causing you so much angst, but if you've got other's counting on your income or don't have financial cushion in the bank, it's likely not the easy solution.  The reality is that over half of Americans aren't in the position to just up and leave their job. So when people suggest you ‘just quit', it isn't helpful. In this episode of the She Doesn't Settle podcast, I dive into the topic of career dissatisfaction and its impact on overall well-being. I explore the five main reasons why someone might be unhappy in their career, including burnout, challenges within the work environment, lack of excitement and purpose, a desire and curiosity to want something more/different, and dissatisfaction in other areas of life.  The importance of evaluating personal well-being, setting boundaries, seeking support, and considering small changes within one's current role is critical to taking that first step to be happier. I also discuss the significance of finding a career that aligns with values and motivates individuals and provide tactical strategies for further exploration and support. New habits seem achievable when you see others doing them every day and seem nearly impossible if you're surrounded by people doing the opposite. Therefore, you want to make sure that you are part of groups and communities that are doing things you aspire to do.  On this She Doesn't Settle episode I'm sharing examples of groups, why who you surround yourself is so helpful in staying committed to your goals and habit changes, and, a story about a fish. The truth is, it's a heck of a lot easier to create 'bad' habits than the good ones and that's why in today's episode I'm sharing a few tips on how to make staying consistent as you build habits, easier.  It's a quickie, but a good one if you are in the midst of building new habits and have had trouble staying consistent.    As mentioned in the episode, I am taking on a couple of 1:1 clients and would love to work with you IF you want to prioritize your health and wellbeing, perhaps reverse burnout, while you work on pursuing your goals. As Brene Brown has been known to say, when you avoid conflict to make peace with other people, you start a war within. She's not wrong. For women, there's a myth that we're supposed to do it all (and do it perfectly). Saying no elicits a whole bunch of inner shame - and a whole lot of dialogue that isn't nice: "Who do you think you are?" "You're not a very good [mother/partner/colleague/friend]." On today's She Doesn't Settle podcast episode I'm hoping to remind you that when we set boundaries, when we dare to say “no”, we are acting in a way that allows us to care about ourselves, even when we risk disappointing others. We cannot base our own value on others' approval because it creates a war within (this is coming from someone who spent years trying to please everyone!). When we learn to believe that we are enough, we can begin to say 'no', set boundaries, and prioritize our own time and needs.  You are entitled to your own time. To prioritizing your well-being and your goals. ❤️ Tune in to listen to the full episode. P.S. Ready to prioritize yourself? I'm taking on two more 1-1 clients starting in July. According to many "influencers" out there, in order to be successful and healthy you must have the perfect morning routine. I say, ehh...that's a stretch. If you've got a two hour long morning routine that makes you feel amazing and doesn't stress you out — keep doing it. But, if you've been criticizing yourself for not doing anything in the morning other than getting up when your alarm goes off, that is more than okay. The obsession with the perfect morning routine has gotten out of hand. Productivity involves higher-level decisions and more nuance than a rigid and ritualistic schedule to start your day. Not to mention, if you nail the morning but don't have good habits in place the rest of they day, it kind of defeats the purpose. On today's She Doesn't Settle episode, I'm diving into the benefits of routine, how a jam packed morning routine can lead to obsession or anxiety and how to create a morning routine that is best for YOU. We all have different lifestyles, obligations and responsibilities, so our routines -- whether they are in the morning or the evening -- will vary, and that's okay.   Episode Links: Website Instagram Twitter Schedule a Discovery Call

However, she was working so many hours that she wasn't "present" with her family. She carried two phones and frequently took calls early in the morning and after hours--failing to set boundaries out of fear.   Her health and relationships suffered.   During COVID, like most, she was remote and her kids had a front row seat to everything related to her work and the culture. One day, her oldest daughter said, "you don't seem happy." And, according to Jodi, she was right.   From that moment, Jodi started looking for a fresh start where she could renew boundaries and focus on her passion for using the law to help people. That's how she found out about "purpose driven" companies.   She admits, the transition from working herself to the ground to having a healthier balance between work and life — was hard. She had allowed her previous role to be her identity and had to get to know herself all over again. Turns out-- she likes herself.   Tune in to hear about Jodi's professional background as a lawyer, her transition into a new role and what it took to make that change.   Episode Links: Website Instagram Twitter YouTube
