He explains the importance of clarity, communication, and regular team check-ins to build trust and improve performance. He also highlights the impact of systems and structure in sustaining growth. His insights reveal why most business issues stem from a lack of clarity, not performance. Listeners will learn practical steps to create more connected and purpose-driven workplaces. Key Takeaways for Small Business Owners: Clarity is the foundation of success – Teams perform better when everyone knows their role, purpose, and what's expected of them. Alignment beats effort – Hard work alone doesn't guarantee results; aligning people, purpose, and systems creates real progress. Regular check-ins build strong culture – Simple habits like weekly huddles and monthly reviews keep teams connected and supported. Our hero crafts outstanding reviews following the experience of listening to our special guests. Are you the one we've been waiting for? Leadership must focus on vision, not firefighting – Great leaders work on the business, not just in it, ensuring long-term stability. Reducing burnout increases productivity – When teams feel heard and supported, engagement rises and burnout drops significantly. Systems sustain performance – Businesses don't rise to goals—they fall to the level of their systems, so structure and rhythm are essential. One action small business owners can take: According to Trent Morgan, one action small business owners can take is to hold regular team check-ins or huddles to ensure everyone is aligned on goals, clear about their roles, and supported in their work — fostering stronger communication, trust, and accountability. Dr. Laura welcomes Dr. Esther Sternberg, M.D., a Professor, Research Director, Speaker, and Author of the books Well at Work, Healing Spaces, and The Balance Within, to the podcast to talk about wellness at work and how workplace environments impact employees. Dr. Sternberg shares her career journey from her start in medical family practice through to becoming the Research Director at the Andrew Weil Center of Integrative Medicine. She and Dr. Laura talk about what factors impact health and overall wellness at work and how these can be improved.Dr. Sternberg delves into the insights in her book Well at Work and explains the seven domains of integrative health as defined by the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. Sleep, resilience, environment, movement, relationships, spirituality, and nutrition are the seven domains, and they include things like how quickly we bounce back from stress, how clean our air is, and access to nature. Dr. Laura and Dr. Sternberg examine how office design, environmental location, common spaces that encourage relationships, and even temperature all play a key role in our workplace health. The conversation sheds light on how work isn't simply a place to invest time into productivity, but can positively or negatively impact our overall lives, and how redefining workplaces is a vital part of future discussions. “... if you're feeling too stressed or too activated, you want to do something that will tone down that stress response so you can perform at peak... If you're too stressed, you freeze, you're unable to focus. You're unable to do the job, the task at hand. So what helps you to move that stress response from the extreme danger zone back to performing at peak is places where you can go offline a little bit, where you can effectively meditate even though you're not sitting there with crossed legs in a lotus position in a yoga studio, although having spaces where some people can do that is is also beneficial. But a space, for example, [like] the gardens. To just walk in the gardens, to just take your brain off the computer for a while and focus on the green, on the plants.” - Dr. Esther SternbergAbout Dr. Esther Sternberg, M.D.:Dr. Esther Sternberg is internationally recognized for her discoveries in the science of the mind-body interaction in illness and healing, and the role of place in wellbeing. She is a pioneer and major force in collaborative initiatives on mind-body-stress-wellness and environment interrelationships. A dynamic speaker, she engages her audience with passion for her subject and compassion as a physician. Through stories, she provides listeners with many take-home tips to help them cope with stress and thrive, and to create wellbeing spaces wherever they work or live. Dr. Sternberg's three popular, highly readable, informative, and scientifically based books are inspirations for lay persons and professionals alike, seeking answers to the complexities and 21st-century frontiers of stress, place, healing, and wellness. Her award-winning book, WELL at WORK: Creating Wellbeing in Any Workspace (Little, Brown Spark, 2023) was named a Top Ten Lifestyle Book for Fall 2023 by Publishers Weekly and received the OWL (Outstanding Works of Literature) Longlist Award. S1Ep244 Supporting Healthy Employees and Team Members with Cody Beard

The Business Growth Show

Supporting healthy employees isn't just about offering perks—it's about creating a workplace culture where well-being translates into productivity and long-term success. Few understand this better than Cody Beard, owner of Prime IV Hydration & Wellness in Wichita. With years of leadership experience in manufacturing and a deep commitment to health, Beard brings a unique perspective on why wellness strategies should be at the core of every business. Employee well-being has evolved far beyond casual mentions in mission statements. Today, businesses face growing challenges with burnout, stress, and turnover. For Ford Saeks, business growth strategist and host of The Business Growth Show, this is more than an HR issue—it's a business performance strategy. Saeks often reminds leaders that their people are their most valuable asset, and organizations that fail to prioritize health are missing a critical growth lever. Beard's own journey underscores this truth. Before launching Prime IV, he spent years managing large teams in demanding manufacturing environments, where efficiency and engagement were constant priorities. “I was always looking for ways to keep my team safe, maintain wellness, and drive engagement,” Beard explains. Traditional measures like on-site chiropractors and massage therapists helped, but he recognized the need for something more impactful—something that went beyond words and delivered real results. That search led Beard and his wife to Prime IV Hydration & Wellness. What began as a personal commitment to better health evolved into a mission-driven business designed to help others achieve the same. Today, Beard operates two Prime IV locations in Wichita, offering hydration and vitamin therapies that support energy, focus, and recovery. For business leaders, these services represent more than a luxury—they're a practical solution for supporting healthy employees in a fast-paced world. The connection between wellness and workplace performance isn't theoretical. Organizations that invest in employee health consistently report higher retention rates, stronger engagement, and increased productivity. Beard sees this firsthand with companies that implement wellness strategies through Prime IV. “There's a difference between saying you value your employees and actually doing something about it,” he says. Providing tangible resources shows employees that their well-being truly matters, creating trust and loyalty that no policy document can match. Saeks points out another key advantage: differentiation. In an era of talent shortages, offering meaningful wellness initiatives can set businesses apart from competitors. “Healthy employees don't just work harder—they work smarter,” Saeks emphasizes. Companies that prioritize health send a clear message about their culture, which resonates with top talent and strengthens employer branding. One of Beard's most practical suggestions for companies hesitant to start is simple: take one step. That might mean inviting a wellness provider for a lunch-and-learn, or giving team members a chance to experience a service firsthand. “Send in a champion from your team,” Beard advises. “Once they experience the benefits, it becomes easy to advocate for more.” This grassroots approach often sparks the momentum needed to make wellness part of the organizational fabric. Beyond physical health, Beard sees wellness as a catalyst for engagement and morale. The experience at Prime IV is designed with this in mind. From calming environments to personalized care, every detail is aimed at helping clients feel valued and cared for—an experience that businesses can mirror within their own culture. “Our goal is to make wellness approachable and enjoyable,” Beard explains. “When people feel better, they show up better—in every aspect of life.” Supporting healthy employees isn't a passing trend. It's a long-term strategy for businesses that want to thrive in an increasingly competitive landscape. For leaders like Saeks and Beard, the message is clear: prioritize your people's health, and performance will follow. Watch the full episode on YouTube. How can we build strong intergenerational teams in the workplace?Instead of viewing generational differences through the lens of stereotypes or a “competition of pain,” we can approach them as a form of cultural diversity. By fostering cultural competence, validating each generation's unique experiences, and leveraging friction for growth, organizations can build stronger, more innovative teams. Strategies like two-way mentoring, having open conversations about values, and being curious about different perspectives can help organizations “future-proof” their culture, ensuring it is resilient and inclusive for everyone. On this episode of Just One Q, Dominique chats with guest Natasha Sharma, a DEI professional and the founder and CEO of Power in Progress. The Leadership Stress Crisis: Why 52% of CEOs Think Their Culture is Toxic (And What to Do About It) Ready for a reality check that'll make your executive chair spin? A groundbreaking 2024 study just dropped some seriously uncomfortable truths about leadership stress, and we're here to unpack the mess—and show you the way out. Here's the kicker: 52% of CEOs view their own company culture as toxic, while 55% admit to mental health struggles. Even more shocking? 81% of leaders still view mental health issues as weakness or burdens. Talk about a leadership contradiction that's begging for some serious intervention. The Leadership Paradox: When You're Both the Problem and the Solution We dive deep into why more than half of company leaders feel trapped in toxic cultures they themselves created. It's like being the architect of a building you hate living in—except the blueprint for change is still in your hands. The Isolation Epidemic: Why Leaders Suffer in Silence Discover the brutal truth about leadership loneliness and why "complaints go up, but when you're the CEO, there is no up." We explore how the Superman complex is literally killing leadership effectiveness and what you can do to break free. The Strength in Seeking Support: Redefining Leadership Courage Here's our truth bomb: Asking for help isn't weakness—it's the strongest thing any leader can do. We challenge the toxic belief that struggle equals strength and show you how peer connections and coaching can transform both you and your organization. The Bottom Line If you're carrying the weight of leadership alone, you're not just hurting yourself—you're sabotaging your entire organization. The data is clear: isolated leaders create toxic cultures, but connected leaders create thriving environments. Tune in for: The shocking statistics that reveal the hidden crisis in executive leadership Practical strategies for breaking the cycle of toxic workplace culture Why your "weakness" might actually be your greatest leadership strength Real solutions for finding the support system every leader desperately needs Stop carrying the weight alone. Whether you're a pastor feeling overwhelmed, a professional struggling with workplace stress, or someone trying to figure out your next career move, this conversation offers practical wisdom about finding purpose and maintaining your energy. Arianna brings incredible insights from her research and personal journey that will help you reframe how you think about work, calling, and your own potential. Workplace wellness is broken. Free snacks, ping-pong tables, yoga-at-lunch—none of it actually works if your workplace culture is toxic or disconnected. So what does create a thriving, healthy work environment? According to today's guests, it starts with leadership—and it's a lot less about perks and a lot more about people. We're diving deep into the real future of workplace wellness with Dr. Patricia Grabarek and Dr. Katina Sawyer, co-founders of Workr Beeing and co-authors of the book Leading for Wellness: How to Create a Team Culture Where Everyone Thrives. These two powerhouse I/O psychologists have spent their careers studying what actually works when it comes to employee well-being, team dynamics, and leadership. Spoiler alert: most wellness programs are missing the mark completely. Workplace wellness doesn't start with nap pods or smoothie bars—it starts with people feeling seen, heard, and valued. If you're a leader, this episode is your wake-up call. If you're not a leader, it's your permission to want more than burnout and survival.
