On this episode of the She Doesn't Settle podcast, Kelly Travis returns after her two-month long hiatus from the show. And in the midst of a rather chaotic past few weeks, with the fall of Roe, the shooting in Texas, etc., she took a few moments today to chat about the importance of recognizing your priorities. In times of stress and burnout, it can be challenging to find solace in everyday life. That's why Kelly suggests that everyone should have priorities that align with their goals and three daily non-negotiables. This can be anything from taking a walk and making coffee to doing yoga and eating a healthy breakfast. The goal is to maintain some semblance of normalcy even when the going gets tough. It can be easy to stop showing up for yourself, especially when everything else seems so insurmountable and overwhelming. In doing the little things though and showing up for ourselves, we ensure that we prioritize ourselves and our own wellbeing even in the face of pressure. The Finer Details of This Episode: Recognizing priorities Coping with stress and burnout Picking your non-negotiables Showing up for yourself The importance of doing the little things   Quotes:  “But for now, let's just say I needed to take some time to step back from some things, namely, social media for sure, to take a look at all of the things I was doing creatively and pull back a bit to conserve some energy and to put my priorities elsewhere.” "I just wanted to get on here and say, obviously, there are big, big problems. And I hope that you are doing what you need to do to move through it. Whether that's silently taking the time to sit back, maybe you're vocal on social media, or you're doing the things to advocate and to send messages.” “If you have three non-negotiables for yourself, those can help you in the hardest times. And you know, they could be as simple as drinking enough water every day, getting to bed at a certain time, taking a walk a couple of times a day, a five minute walk…like simple things.” “We need to know that we can show up for ourselves in some small, small way.” “But again, all of these things are just wonderful foundations for us when things are really challenging and we're going through a lot of emotional, mental, and physical stress.” “We're back for the next couple of months just to get through summer and the boys being home. I shifted my schedule. Episodes are going to be every other week, probably until September. Then we'll come back to full blown every week” Links:  She Doesn't Settle Podcast She Doesn't Settle - The Experience: www.kellytravis.net/sds  Instagram: www.instagram.com/shedoesntsettle/ One-on-One Coaching & Group Sessions

On this episode of The Chronic Athlete I interview health and career coach Kelly Travis.  We met when I reached out to her to be a guest on her podcast She Doesn't Settle and when we briefly met prior to recording, we recognized we had a lot in common.  Her story of her collegiate athletic experience, which led to disordered eating and eventually having to step away from the sport, is where she developed a foundation to lead other's through change.  She has weathered many storms including her relationship with running, an unhealthy marriage, and climbing the corporate ladder only to realize it wasn't as fulfilling as she had hoped.  Whether it be health or career, Kelly uses her skills as a Certified Enneagram Practitioner to lead individuals, groups, and organizations to success.  She is a mental health ninja who fully embodies the importance of prioritizing mental health and well being while working to help figure out why you're so bleh about your health, and or, career.  As she says, when you feel good, you can do a hell of a lot more. She's an athlete.  She's a mother.  She's a fighter.  She's vulnerable.  She's resilient.  She's a leader.  As always, would love to hear what hit your heart in this episode.  Kelly Travis Instagram: @kellythealthKelly Travis Website: http://www.kellytravis.net/Amy Denson Instagram: @coachamyrae

Stories of Inspiring Joy

As a Health, Leadership and Success Coach, Kelly Travis helps ambitious, high achieving folks prioritize their health and well-being so they can reach new levels in their business and their life. Through her programs, speaking and coaching, Kelly helps individuals build confidence, uplevel their physical, emotional and mental health, and realize their goals. And as a result, they take massive action and create positive change in every area of their life. In today's episode Kelly shares her story stepping into her mission to support women in owning their own desires and letting go of societal expectations. Kelly was a competitive athlete her entire life and she had big goals to go to the Olympics. After her freshman year of college her coach wrote her a contract to lose weight and she began restricting her food. Kelly found herself quickly declining, and dropped out of school after Nationals where she was an All-American. From coming home to get healthy to spending time in the psych ward, Kelly emerge from that experience healthier on the outside, but she soon realized that she didn't do the work to shift from surviving to thriving. She returned to school and received a degree in mental health, but it wasn't until she was pregnant that she realized more needed to change. Kelly embarked on that journey. She left her career, started her own business, and after having her second son she left her marriage. That's where she's at today - none of it was easy, but her boys where the catalyst for her to change her life. She knew if she wanted to help other women she had to get herself together, and that's what she did. Today Kelly is racing again, she's healthy, and she no longer criticizes her body or feels undeserving of the things that she wants. Kelly is supporting women and men who have goals they're hiding from and helping them show up as themselves. Meet Kelly Travis, a health and success coach who helps ambitious and high-achieving people prioritize their health and well-being so they can reach new levels in their business and in their life.  As a result, they take massive action and create positive change in every area of their life.Officially, Kelly is a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where she earned her certification as a Holistic Health Coach a certified Precision Nutrition coach and Enneagram coach. Her passion for health and wellbeing started in college, where she was a collegiate All-American runner at UNC-Charlotte, and earned her Bachelor of Science in Public Health with an emphasis on mental health from Central Michigan University.Kelly's collegiate running career was driven by perfectionism and obsession, a combination that forced her to drop out of college and lose her identity.  After having two children in an unhappy marriage, Kelly started to do the work necessary for change and circled back to her roots in health.  After committing to the long haul, Kelly began to build atmospheres of trust between women, utilizing her blog to connect and inspire.  Tune in to hear how she found her tribe of women that helped her empower herself and the clients she works with.Kelly's TakeawaysWhat you can provide to your listeners based on your journey will be beneficial. We can be successful and we don't have to kill ourselves along the way. When we slow down, we can truly ask ourselves "am I doing what I want to be doing?"When we think we might not be happy, it requires us to think of change, and the brain doesn't like that!If one thing is throwing us off, it can mess with everything else.Success doesn't occur all at once.Women need to stop tearing each other down and start building each other up.There is a power in being vulnerable.Create a safe space for women who are going to resonate with each other and build their tribe. We need people to question us in a healthy way.Your progress has NOTHING to do with someone else's progress. You can allow yourself to support others and still be successful. We have to focus on our own race.Connect with KellyWebsiteInstagram FacebookPodcast

Kelly Travis is a certified health and success coach who helps ambitious people to recognize their individual value and worth as they reach big goals.   Kelly was a competitive athlete, earning a scholarship to college but had to eventually drop out due to internal and external pressures to be perfect. After becoming hospitalized, Kelly realized that although she was applauded for seeming healthy on the outside, internally she was truly struggling.   In our conversation, we discuss: Her journey with prioritizing her mental health How she built her own business after slowly being pushed out of a male dominated space The courage it took to leave her abusive marriage Why so many women struggle with self-trust - and why she’s made it her goal to help them build that trust And why perfection isn’t the goal - but healing is.   As a woman who has first hand struggled with many issues that women face, Kelly aspires to be the support system she desperately needed for her 20-year old self. By promoting self-acceptance and detaching from the idea of perfectionism, Kelly believes that to in order to have an impact on the world, we have to first start with ourselves.   Connect with Kelly: http://www.kellytravis.net/about https://www.instagram.com/kellythealth/   Listen to the She Doesn’t Settle Podcast http://www.kellytravis.net/podcast    Our intro theme song is “Pico & Westwood” by Esbie Fonte. Kelly Travis is a health and wellness coach and host of She Doesn't Settle. TBAS # 38: Self-Talking with Steven Handel ZAK: WARNING, today's episode contains use of the s-word. 8 times. Kelly Travis is a health, wellness and leadership coach and she's been doing some work. Not just with her clients but on her self. KELLY: I never had a positive thing to say about myself. It derailed me a lot and what resulted was I never really used my own voice. I never went after goals I actually wanted. I would freeze up in taking action on things that were really important. My self-worth was really shitty. Like I just wasn't good enough. And this work has allowed me to see myself differently. ZAK: One of the things thats helped Kelly move forward is this thing that she does. When she finds her self talking shit to herself, she's figured out a way to talk back to that shit-talker. It's a simple question she asks herself, is this thought useful. KELLY: Because the shit-talker is loud. The other voice in our head that's encouraging and is a cheerleader and tells us to keep going is very quiet. The shit-talker is loud and that's the one we head all the time cause it's on auto-pilot. It's the same stuff everyday. Research shows us 85 percent of our thoughts are the same from the day before. And that question, is this though useful...doesn't matter if it's true...IS IT USEFUL and being able to choose something else that will keep us going in a positive direction. Right? So if I say to myself, I'm such a shitty mom. I can't do this. I suck at this. Is that thought useful? No. What can I think instead. I'm doing the best I can right now. It's messy. It's chaotic but I'm doing the best I can. ZAK:And so it's like, we're going through our day. We hear the negative shit-talking come in and we stop ourselves and say, is this thought helpful? KELLY: Yeah. And that's the part that requires the work. Reminding ourselves to check in because as a society we are just on auto-pilot. We don't pay attention to what we're thinking most of the time. So, having a post-it note up on your computer that says, ask the question or setting a reminder on your phone to ask yourself the question so it becomes something you start to do automatically without thinking after time. ZAK:And we answer the question. Is this helpful? No, it's not helpful. And then what? KELLY: You think of a neutral thought. I don't believe in bullshit positive affirmations. The brain just doesn't work that way. It never worked for me. Now, if you have people that like them and they work, awesome, but it's hard for the brain to go from you suck to oh my god you're amazing! It doesn't work that way so we want to go somewhere in the middle. A thought that we can latch on to that we can still believe but is more helpful, right? So, whatever that is whether it's like the example I gave you which is I'm doing the best I can. Or, you know, something along those lines that keeps us moving in a positive direction.

As a Health and Success Coach, Kelly Travis helps ambitious, high achieving women realize they don’t have to “should” their way to success in life or business. Through her programs and speaking, Kelly helps women realize what they actually want for themselves, ditch limiting beliefs and excuses, and create a sustainable action plan to achieve their big scary goals. Kelly models the ideal mix of professionalism, compassion, and discipline to help women get to where they want to go - not to where she thinks they should go (her methods are not prescriptive) but where they truly want to go in their career and life. Her brave, sassy, and always approachable coaching style encourages women to take a cold hard look at their habits, mindset, boundaries, and everything that goes into creating a life on their terms. Officially, Kelly earned her Bachelor of Science in Public Health with an emphasis on mental health from Central Michigan University. She is also a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where she earned her certification as a Holistic Health Coach. Her passion for wellness and her ability to create successful strategies to reach goals started in college, where she was a collegiate All-American runner at UNC-Charlotte. Listen in to hear Kelly share: The truth about our struggle to dream or create goals The way we make choices that provide false benefits and let us hide from our dreams How her eating disorder led her into her career How her unplanned pregnancy pushed her to learn how to use her voice and ultimately leave an abusive marriage Her daily coping skills to continue to work on herself as she recovers from an abusive relationship and is a single mom to two littles How she shows up as her very imperfect, messy, most authentic self How to start working toward a goal based on how you want to feel vs metrics & milestones Why you need to make decisions for yourself and not based on other people’s formulas, templates, prescriptions or opinions Links mentioned: Join my 2021 Plan & Prep Pajama Party Connect with Kelly Kelly’s free workshop, Clear AF: Complete Clarity On What You Desire Kelly on social media: @kellythealth Podcast: She Doesn’t Settle Thank you to our sponsor: Take2Minutes: Download Take2Minutes for free at: take2minutes.org/shameless. Kelly Travis found her path to success was a route through serious adversity at first. She sits down with Amy today to describe how she forged a successful and fulfilling career after passing through some dark times. But as is often the case, those painful experiences contributed to a passion to help others through their own difficulties. Kelly was and is a competitive runner, and an All-American, in fact. College for her was an opportunity to continue with her sport. Full of anticipation and willingness to work to advance, she was unfortunately placed in the hands of a bad college coach. His body shaming and demands for weight loss profoundly intimidated the impressionable 19 year-old. She tried hard to please, but relentless demands from him and those she imposed on herself landed her in the hospital for 6 months with a severe eating disorder diagnosis. During her hospital therapy, Kelly decided she would return to school, but not as the business major she had been. She determined she wanted to do something that would help her to empower women. When she returned to school, she began a major in public health, concentrating on mental health and addiction. This led to a first post college job as a social worker with at risk youth. Kelly was still struggling to find herself. After a couple of years, she did a complete pivot away from social work. Since she had always had an entrepreneurial streak, she ventured into the business realm where she spent a decade. She found her competitive nature was very helpful in the publishing field. But the arrival of her first son gave her a time to examine where she was in her life, and although she was financially successful, she was not fulfilled and happy. She felt a need to be authentic as well as creative. She pushed ahead, put in the work, and started her own consulting firm. She was edging closer to something that felt true to her. When her second son was expected, she pivoted once more. Her self work was not yet complete, but she moved forward and began a coaching practice. She initially started her business by being a trainer, but this morphed into something much more. She realized the commonality of what makes us happy and successful in any walk of life could and should be applied to the work she was doing. Her business model was taking new form. She began helping clients to learn successful goal-setting techniques. She discusses with Amy everything from establishing a client's real goals (as opposed to those created for them by others), to the incremental steps she or he must take to achieve those goals. She delves into self-sabotage, Imposter Syndrome, fear of taking action and other roadblocks people set up as she did, along the way to fulfillment. Kelly Travis has created a unique life coaching practice rooted in her own experiences and refined by her continued education. She offers clients guidance as they take their own journey of self-discovery. She helps them recognize those often self-imposed inhibitors that delay or even stop personal and professional growth. She teaches the structure of goal setting and importantly, holds clients accountable when they make excuses, fall back or aren't putting in the work. There's a lot to digest in today's episode with Kelly Travis. Her interview will leave you asking yourself more than one or two good questions. How to set attainable, realistic goals How ingrained habits and traits can be a double-edged sword Career success, like personal happiness, is a process not an event How “stepping outside the box” is important to anyone who wants to succeed Why an “all or nothing” mindset is a landmine. They talk about Kelly’s path to becoming a health and success coach for women (which even involved recovering from a severe eating disorder), as well as how to change our mindsets about the world and our lives. In today’s episode, Kim and Kelly talk about…Why we need to give up our “good enough” attitudes about our lives. It’s important to pursue the BEST person we can be, the best marriage we can have, and the most rewarding career out there.Strategies you can use to visualize a better life. Ask yourself, “How do I want to feel? How do I want to feel when I wake up in the morning?” Why it’s important to acknowledge your feelings and accept them. Remember—we cannot have happiness without sadness.Kelly’s top tips for letting go of “good enough”: Recognize when you’re unhappy—and admit it. Women often struggle to admit when they aren’t happy, but it’s an important first step to take. Understand that you can be grateful for what you have, but also want more from life!Allow yourself to dream, without any restriction, about what your ideal life looks like. The plague—well, its non-lethal variant—has swept over the Travis household, which has left yours truly and my kids more or less incapacitated. Remember how in last week’s episode I discussed how our brain can trip us up as we get closer to our goal? Well, sometimes the obstacles are external and completely out of our control. Like the flu. In these moments, we can either let the roadblock stop us from finishing or we find a way around it. I always opt to find a different route and I hope you will too. For this special occasion I’m revisiting one of the early interviews from my previous series, Healthy High Performer. My guest, Stefanie Frank is a TEDx speaker, copywriter, and co-founder of ‪Frankly Good Coffee‬, a company that believes in facilitating conversations around creative ideas and supporting innovation for themselves and others. She’s gone toe-to-toe with that limiting voice we all know that says “you can’t do that”, and learned how to push through it. Stefanie is passionate about the importance creativity plays in everyone’s life and wants it to be celebrated - which is why it’s the theme in her own business. To boot, she’s also part of my Mastermind group, Ascend. In this episode, Stefanie explores the unexpected path she’s taken to get where she is now, reveals the personal and very physical challenge she overcame, and suggests some handy ways you can unleash your hidden creative talents. The Finer Details of This Episode: - How Stefanie went from working as a litigation attorney, to writing copy for various websites, to founding her own coffee company, and what prompted her to shift gears in such a major way. - Why Stefanie’s husband Glen was key to pushing her from being unhealthy, overwhelmed and depressed to making a major change and pursuing a new dream. - The little voice in Stefanie’s head that pushed her to complete a triathlon and eventually the Silverman. - How exercise played a role in shifting  Stefanie’s confidence and how it helps her in her career. - The role creativity plays in Stefanie’s personal well-being and how she manages Frankly Good Coffee. - Understanding the forms creativity can take, and how to foster your own creative impulses. - How Stefanie’s fear of judgment has complicated her drive for success. - The three main men in Stefanie’s life and why’ve they’ve been incredibly important to her success. - The novel that made Stefanie realize that even the biggest, most complicated stories can come together in the end. - Stefanie’s challenge to listeners that she hopes you will take action on. Quotes: “I would have risked my relationship if I had ignored all that and kept going.” “If you’re gonna hire a coach, you should really have due diligence and make sure it’s a good match.” “I knew I could do whatever I set my mind to.” “Exercise has the obvious physical benefits but it keeps me straight mentally too.” “I believe everyone is creative innately even if you don’t work in a ‘creative job’.” “Sometimes you need to write the actual crappy thoughts that you’re having and you can just let them go more easily.” Guest Links: Stefanie’s homepage - https://stefaniefrank.com/ Fuel Your Creative Ideas podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/id1481600549 Frankly Good Coffee - https://www.franklygoodcoffee.com/ Frankly Good Coffee on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/franklygoodcoffee/ “Tell Relevant Stories” TEDx Talk - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lAWZufEY8M Show Links: Sign up for the Kelly Travis newsletter at http://www.kellytravis.net/newsletter.  The Spokes of Life free downloadable - https://kellythealth.lpages.co/hfs-spokes-of-life/ Ascend Mastermind - http://www.kellytravis.net/ascend

Welcome to the first episode of the She Doesn’t Settle podcast. I’m your host, Kelly Travis, a speaker and wellness coach based in Las Vegas who found purpose after uncovering the areas of my life that were holding me back. Now that I’ve figured out my goals and how to achieve them, I help other women find clarity in their own lives and take the action needed to move out of their comfort zones. With each and every one of my clients, I work to ensure they don’t settle for a “good enough” that isn’t enough. I know firsthand that it’s possible to be healthy, feel loved, and pursue your goals all at the same time. In this inaugural episode, I highlight the limiting beliefs we subconsciously use to dissuade ourselves from working toward our goals, help you address the fears that fuel these thoughts, and assign a little bit of homework to help get you started on the right foot. The Finer Details of This Episode: - Identifying the excuses our brain makes to keep us from moving forward when we’re presented with great opportunities. - The vital difference between “dipping your toe in” and “going all in.” - What you lose out on when you fail to fully pursue what you truly and deeply desire. - How fear plays a major role in convincing us to settle for less - What part of your life are you currently settling for?
