After working through the challenges of a chronic illness through her twenties, Danielle Hall sought alternative sources of recovery and pain management when traditional medicine didn't offer relief. Communications Director Ashlee Jones spoke with Tom Todt, District Director for the Small Business Association's Alabama District Office located in Birmingham about the current economic climate of our small business community, as well as its recovery post-2020. Director Todt began his duties as District Director in June 2008. In his role as District Director, Mr. Todt oversees a professional staff of 10 in the delivery of SBA's Financial Assistance, Entrepreneurial Development, Business Training, Government Contracting and other marketing and outreach programs throughout Alabama's 67 counties. This delivery network includes 10 Small Business Development Centers, six SCORE chapters, three Women's Business Centers, four Certified Development Companies and dozens of lending institutions. With students headed back to Jacksonville State University this week, Communications Director Ashlee Jones sat down with Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Christie Shelton, to discuss some of the new policies set in place to keep staff and students safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as how athletics and move-in days for housing have been affected.--Dr. Christie Shelton is a JSU alumna and earned her BSN and MSN from the university before receiving a PhD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has served in various roles at JSU since 2000 including Lab Coordinator, BSN Program Director, Co-Principal Investigator, and Associate Dean before becoming Dean of the School of Health Professions and Wellness (SHPW) in 2013 (formerly College of Nursing). Dr. Shelton's tenure as dean was one of marked growth for her school. Under her leadership, several new programs were created including a bachelor's in respiratory therapy and a doctorate in nursing practice. The undergraduate nursing program grew to become one of the largest and most successful programs on campus, with graduates regularly outperforming peers on the licensure exam. Dr. Shelton spearheaded the creation of a simulation lab for the nursing programs, which has been well received by students and faculty alike.Dr. Shelton is a board member-at-large for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. She is also a member of the Alabama Health Action Coalition and serves as a board member for the Cleburne County Hospital Board. Dr. Shelton serves on numerous committees, task forces, and work groups for the university. EMA Director Michael Barton and Myles Chamblee sat down with Communications Director Ashlee Jones to discuss Calhoun County EMA and their work with the Calhoun County Infectious Disease Task Force during the COVID-19 pandemic.At the time of this recording on April 8th, 2020, Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center (RMC) had only 2-3 hospitalizations from COVID-19.
