There’s a million things you “should” be doing, but can you be bothered?
How much true crime do you consume on a weekly basis? Because statistics would show there's a 50% chance you consume at least some. You twisted little pup xxxBut who could blame you. “Making a murderer”, “Dont F**k with Cats”, “Tiger King”. All unbelievable documentaries in a genre that continues to grow. But what happens when you consume a little too much? Does it have a negative impact on your mental health? Do you start to imagine every stranger you meet has skeletons in their closet? And we're talking real skeletons. Not embarrassing secrets like, “oh, that guy? Yea, he used to spend every evening playing with sock puppets before bed”. Although.. that does sound like something a killer might do?Other big question addressed: do people who become obsessed with true crime actually consider committing crime.. Or murder? **GASP**Listen in. We're gonna answer all these things. And there'll be no more talk of sock puppets! Have you ever been tempted to buy a weighted blanket?Maybe you've been living under a weighted rock and never heard of them. If so, the hint is in the name. They're just regular blankets, but heavier.“But how would you even clean a weighted blanket?” you might wonder. There's good reason you don't wash your dumbbells in the washing machine. “And what are the benefits of these blankets? Improved sleep? Anything else? Would they not be fu*kin roastin?”We wondered the same things. So we bought one of said blankets for €24.99 to test out and help you decide if you should bother too.(And to add it to the list of other “better night's sleep miracles” we've already tried on the pod - mouth taping, magnesium, nasal strips etc.) Oh and we also name some of the best weighted blankets. For between 1-2 million people, witchcraft isn't just something that's passively joked about at Halloween. It's their religion. Mic, fu*king, drop. They've got dedicated witchcraft brooms and cauldrons and if you google, “witchcraft shop near me”, you'll very likely find a place that sells all their supplies.I know what you're thinking: “wtf is going on? SO many questions!!” But don't worry, we'll answer as many as we can as well as help you understand what it takes to learn witchcraft and if it's something you should bother with. Also, you don't need to buy a witches hat or anything, but if you have one, wear it while you listen. You might as well look the part. What is Energy Healing?Well, have you heard of Reiki? Ok. It's not that. But it's kind of in the same realm as that? I think. In the same way apples and pears belong in the same fruit bowl. Not purposely trying to be confusing here, but even after trying this, we're still struggling to explain it - what it is, how it helps, if you should bother with it?!In this episode, we speak to Renu Arora, Energy Healer and creator of the Accelerated Release Technique. You can read more about this on her website: https://www.healfromyourpast.com/She does a remote energy healing over Zoom and for this episode, she tried to use it to help Steph get over her fear of flying. Easiest way to make your own candles at home? Get yourself a candle making kit, obviously… did you not just read the title??Evenings keep getting shorter, colder and darker. So what better activity to try than making your own candles! Definitely very practical, given the time of year. But is it as exciting as watching paint dry? At least 78,000 are interested in it according to the subreddit, r/candlemaking. While the latter (r/WatchPaintDry) only has 210 members. Maybe that's all the validation one could need. Regardless, we're committed. We've got the kit and we'll be discussing what supplies are needed, how to make your own candle, and whether this is the perfect hobby to bother with during the Winter months. P.S. If you truly can't be arsed making a candle, this local Irish business makes 100% natural, sustainable ones, so you don't have to: https://flower-child.ie/Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? Nasal strips: essentially plasters for your schnoz that help you breathe better. Simple enough.Athletes use them when running. Snotty people use them for congestion. Snorers use them to shut the fck up at night and stop disturbing everyone else. So if you're an athletic, snotty snorer, you've hit the jackpot! You know what question we're gonna ask though. Should you really bother using them? That's a lot of promises for what looks like a basic enough plaster you stick on your nose. Do they actually improve your sleep quality? Or help you breathe better while running? And if you would consider your nose to be slightly fuc*ed (e.g. deviated septum), are you the perfect person to benefit? Luckily, with one of us (Gary) having said infliction, and the other being an athletic snotty snorer, we happen to be the best people to put them to the test. We're guessing you know what the Myers Briggs Personality test is? Don't feel bad if you don't, but with over 2 million people taking the test a year - for work or otherwise - there's bound to have been at least one, telling you all about their “type indicator” and who they are as a person without being prompted? Annoying? Very. But how valid is the test really? Are you actually going to discover things about who you are that you weren't aware of? Does it help you change as a person, or succeed in your career? Or is this just another horoscope-type thing we love to indulge in? If you're new here, we take this episode to answer those questions, try the test for ourselves and see if it's worth the bother doing. Not exactly a question of morality, is it. Because if it was a crime to murder a houseplant, wouldn't most of us be locked up? Also, does anyone really intend to “murder” it in the first place? More likely to be called “plantslaughter” than anything else (Note: You won't find this is the Oxford Dictionary, but Urban dictionary has got it covered!)All of that bollo*ks aside, what do you do if you want to stop the unnecessary killing of every houseplant you ever had the notion of purchasing? You get a plant app of course! Do you pay for it? NO. Not a fu*king chance. If you were that invested in plant care, you wouldn't be killing them in the first place! So the objective of this episode is: find the best free plant care app and see if it's actually worth the bother of using. We also have a bit of a chat about dendrophiles (people who want their houseplants to be more than just “friends”) and some of the weirdest apps on the App Store (need a way to remember every place you've ever taken a sh*t?)Now, press play with that green thumb of yours and let us know what you think. Weird fact: 30% of IKEA customers go there for the Food Court alone. That's nearly one in three, driving to this big yellow and blue warehouse, not for some flat packed desk or Billy Bookcase. For a plate of small Swedish meatballs!Which begs the question: what the F is in those meatballs?? And why do they draw a crowd to a furniture brand? If you've been to an IKEA - probably dragged there by some parent or other half - you've likely wondered, “how are these hot dogs so cheap?” You might have also questioned if you can get those sweet little balls delivered right to your door for a cheap, dine-in meal by the telly with the spouse on a Friday night. Well let me tell you two things: If you've wondered that specifically, your marriage needs help.If you want the answer to those last 2 questions and more, listen to this episode. Did you know there are 200 period tracking apps that are available on app stores today? Why so many? Because maybe they're something you should bother with? And that's exactly what we're here to figure out! What you maybe didn't already know: Men get periods too (yes girls, we are out to steal your fu*kin thunder)People tracked their periods using bones in the past (not their own bones)In France, “the little clown with the bleeding nose” is a term used to describe menstruation (the female one; men don't bleed down there.. usually!)What's the point in saying all that? Just a teaser of the kind of sh*te we talk about on this week's episode. We also discuss useful things though, like the best period tracking apps - especially those that don't share your data - and which of those are free or subscription based.Coming up next week - we're on our summer holidays! (said in our best yorkshire impressions). We'll be back in September and don't worry. There'll still be some Patreon content. So, mushroom coffee is a thing these days - mainly thanks to those Nordic fellas from 4 Sigmatic, which you may have heard of? What's next? Coffee mixed with butter?! Oh, wait… Future episode, maybe. Let's stick with the mushroom one for now. When it comes to mushroom coffee, your question is probably the same one we had: what's the fu*kin point in this? Why ruin one of life's little pleasures by mixing it with a fungus?? Usually the answer comes back to health benefits or weight loss or something, so we assumed this was the same. Another important question: will it taste like shit? Or mushrooms? That's probably more likely. Otherwise it'd just be called, “sh*t coffee”, coffee made from sh*t - which is also a thing! So many coffee variants, so little… actually, let's be honest, plenty of time to try them all. But, if you've heard of mushroom coffee and can't be arsed paying a premium for a potential bag of dirt, take 57 mins to listen to this and we'll let you know if it's something you should bother with, or not. If you've heard of the Caminito Del Rey - or seen people posting about it on Instagram - you've probably heard the “most dangerous walkway” claim along with it. The word people forget to include however is, “former”. Do you really think we'd be doing this otherwise?? Not a fuckin… HOPE!Since the walkway got refurbished in 2015 and pretty much baby-proofed (you must be 8 years of age and this tall and to ride) there have been no recorded deaths - that we know of. But, being a walkway that's attached to a cliff face 100 metres above a gorge, we're guessing there's been a few soiled pairs of underwear. The exact number, we're unsure of (apparently the tourist attraction doesn't keep track of those kinds of records). What we can promise, however, is there's a high chance of at least 2 soiled pairs after we've tried it. Listen in for that potential shitty reveal and to know if this is worth bothering with the trip to El Churro in southern Spain to try it for yourself. “Candlelight concert” - sounds fancy, intimate and an all-round pleasant evening out, doesn't it? Perfect date night perhaps? If you're one of the many millions of people that's been targeted by their ads since 2019, you can also confirm that that's exactly what it looks like! Hosted in over 100 countries across the globe, a quick “candlelight concert near me” google and you're sure to find an event pretty close to where you live. But as with everything we try on the pod, there's so many questions! Is it good value for money? Might it be the most boring concert you've ever sat through? And with that many candles in one place, how many venues have they managed to burn to the ground? (Bunch of fkn pyromaniacs!)The biggest question of all though: is this something you should bother with? Attending their Coldplay candlelight concert in Malaga, we'll answer that very question for you and suss everything out - discussing the dress code, reviews and the overall general vibe. So if you're wondering if you should finally give into their annoying ads, or if this could be your next best date night, listen in. Is it just us or does the word “diet” trigger a tiny voice in your head that whispers, “Fu*k.. Off” every time you hear it?But maybe the Mediterranean Diet is different? Not quite a “diet” in the traditional sense and it's sure to include Italian food - how bad can that be?! Going into this week's pod naively expecting plenty of pizza and pasta, we decided to try out the Mediterranean Diet. And why not? Heard it's one of, if not, THE healthiest diet in the world. And since we're temporarily based in Spain, we thought.. “When in Rome”?In this episode, expect to hear things like: what this diet consists of (and more importantly, what you can't eat), global blue zones (and how the “med diet” fits into the bigger picture)What to expect from adopting this dietAnd of course, our opinion on if you should bother with it after we've tried it ourselves. Oh and if you're only listening and not watching, imagine us throwing our hands around all the time, like we're Italian. Makes the whole experience more Mediterranean
If you've never heard of them, you're probably wondering, “what are morning pages?” Common sense would say you probably already have a fair idea. Pages… that you do… in the morning?Exactly! And that's how Julia Cameron, author of the bestseller, “The Artist's Way” and creator of this lil' journaling technique, describes them too. What? You've never heard of her either?? Look, that's ok. Remember, this doesn't make you an idiot. Please put the dunce cap.. Down! Listen into the pod and we promise to bring you up to speed. We'll go through what morning pages are, who this Julia Cameron lady is and why Tim Ferriss - famous for interviewing the elite and optimising productivity - is also a big fan of this morning routine. We'll also try this out for a week and give our own opinion on whether it's something you should bother with too. What is a women's circle? Obviously the name paints a picture in itself (a group of women around a fire singing Kumbayah for one) but what's actually involved? If you were to take a guess, there's likely some discussion around commonalities within the group (i.e. “girl stuff”) and that kind of vulnerability in front of strangers can go one of two ways - it remains as uncomfortable as it sounds OR it's a big fat empowering relief!Hoping for the latter, Steph went this one alone this week by joining a local women's circle in a villa with a pool in Spain. Definitely sounds appealing so far. As usual, expect to hear some research around the topic - what is a women's circle, what's typically involved and why anyone bothers with this - before trying the activity for herself to decide if it's worth the bother of trying at all. Oh, and of course, we break it up with our weekly game that's loosely related to the topic. Let's be honest. If you enjoy a glass of wine, isn't this the perfect excuse to have one early in the day, completely shame free?!Other than drinking the ends of leftover drinks in the early hours, we've never been to a wine tasting before. What's the typical wine tasting attire? What are wine tasting notes? Is there particular wine tasting etiquette we need to follow? And what's the story with sommeliers anyway? So many questions! But luckily, all researched and answered for you - another clueless individual that's wondered if you should bother with a wine tasting event. Our little wine tasting also happens to come with food, but we'll tell you all about how that went in the episode. Grab your corkscrew and drink along if you wish. No. Catch prey or forage for snacks? Nope. Know what to pack in a basic survival kit? Not a fu**ing chance! But maybe that's all about to change. We're in Spain at the moment and since we've only tried one form of dancing on this podcast to date, why not step into one of Spain's many stereotypes while we're here - Flamenco dancing! (Bullfighting is in the works, we promise!)Here's what to expect from this episode: We talk about the history and origin of flamenco (unsurprising to most - it has zero to do with Flamingos)We discuss what to wear, with zero castanets between us..We play a game that's “loosely” related to the topic (I added those inverted commas for good reason)And we finish off by discussing our experience learning Flamenco dancing in a Cajón studio. A Cajón?! What's that? A future episode is what it is! But if you can't wait that long, it's one of those boxes people sit on and use it as a drum. So if any of that sounds interesting, or if you've ever spent two minutes looking at that dancing emoji woman in the red dress
We strongly believe that somewhere, over the rainbow, there lives a Jason Mraz lookalike that desperately wants to learn the Ukulele. And although we'd love to beat him, this week we're actually gonna join him!First question to address - is the Ukulele just a small guitar?? One quick glance would say yes? There's less strings, so does that mean less chords? Does that mean there's at least one easy ukulele song we can master in an hour? Lucky enough to stumble across a ukulele group session this week - hosted in an Irish pub, nonetheless - we jumped at the opportunity to learn our second instrument of the pod! Is the ukulele something you should bother with? And will our social anxiety get the best of us, pretending to play an instrument among a group of strangers? What about pilates vs yoga, are they that different? For something that's all about moving waste products from the body, lymphatic drainage massage does trigger the internal “could this be a load of sh*te” alarm. Like most TikTok wellness trends, it comes with bold promises and dramatic before and afters. And with influencers and celebrities on board using this to get “red carpet ready”, of course this was going to gain popularity. But, back to the original point - are these claims a load of sh*te? And even if they are, should you still jump on the bandwagon? Before you do and spend any of your hard earned cash, listen in to this episode. We dive into the research of why people bother with this at all and give our own two cents on whether it was worth it after trying it for ourselves. All to help you decide - “should I bother with this?”Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? We'd love your review! Want to get in contact? 10,000 steps a day has become this magic number in recent years that, if achieved, you can consider yourself healthier. Handy! But have you ever wondered - how many miles does that even equate to? 10,000 sounds like a f**k load. And where do you find the time?!Also, if it's all about helping you be healthier, how many calories can you expect to burn? Or is it even a good method for weight loss? This week, instead of blindly accepting this common conception, we're actually going to try it and see if it really is as much hassle as it seems. As always, we discuss the research to see why one would bother with this at all, followed by a very loosely related game (this week, involving Peter Kay… I did say loosely) and finished up by us talking about the experience of trying this for a week to let you know if you should bother with it too. Make sure to listen to this entire episode without standing up. It'll be more ironic that way. Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? We'd love your review! I'll be the first to say it. I had no idea aerial yoga was even a thing! Performing yoga poses, 3 feet off the ground in a hammock. First thoughts are: is there any need?Second thoughts of course: Should people bother with this?Is it that different to regular mat yoga? Something we also tried on the pod nearly 2 years ago, so at least we can compare. Whats the point in the hammock? Any added benefits? Just for fun? We're answering all these questions (also taking to Reddit to get some opinions) as well as talking about about our experience trying aerial yoga to let you know - is this something you should bother with? We've all been there. You buy a basil plant thinking this will be the start of your brand new Herb Garden. A limitless supply of your favourite herbs from directly inside your kitchen. And then… it dies. And you think, “what in the actual f*ck is this?! I've been sold a lie!”But maybe growing a herb garden inside your kitchen, or on your windowsill isn't quite the holy grail we all think it is. What if we didn't just buy that Basil plant, expecting it to live forever and instead, actually bothered to learn how to keep it alive? A breakthrough moment in thinking indeed. In this episode we're doing just that, discussing when to plant your herb garden, is it better to grow one inside or outside, what pots to use and what hydroponic herb gardens are (which honestly have the potential to be their own dedicated episode!)Do you like to cook, have an aspiring green thumb, or just have a relative called Herb? Then listen in, you cheeky pup. Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? We'd love your review! Want to get in contact? Over 72 million people in the world use sign language to communicate every day. Although, billions have used sign language at some point - if you count giving someone the middle finger. Outside of that though, what other sign language do you know? Do you know the sign language for please, or help? Could you use them in a full sentence such as, “Please help me learn more fu*king sign language?”We couldn't. And that's exactly why this week we're taking time to learn some sign language basics and see if it's easy enough to actually bother doing. We follow our usual routine of discussing some things we find on the interwebs, followed by a made up game - this week, it's all about sign language curse words - before finishing off with some opinions on whether you should bother learning sign language too. We can't promise you'll know how to sign after listening, but you will know how to sign some common curse words - where most start with every language. I'm guessing we've all had a stint of shite sleeps in our lives. And the majority of us have used at least one sleep aid or sleep supplement at some stage or another.. But which did you opt for? Over the counter sleeping tablets? Melatonin? Some sleepy or chamomile tea? One option doing the rounds on social media these days is using magnesium as a sleep supplement. And with people swearing by it, we're taking it upon ourselves to see if it's something you should bother your arse with too. In this episode expect to hear about things like: the research behind how magnesium helps with sleep, other sleep aid options (including sleep aids for pregnancy), a loosely related bullsh*t game steph made up, and a discussion about our experience of trying it for a week. Should you bother taking magnesium as a sleep supplement? Listen in to find out. Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? We'd love your review! Right, so we're all for saving the world and everything. Looking up vegan recipes isn't too difficult and vegan restaurants are very easy to find these days. But..Giving up bacon, chocolate and butter. Or trading in the real thing for vegan pizza or vegan burgers. Wouldn't you rather just watch the world burn?!In this episode, we discuss the reasons why you should try veganism (in case your vegan friend hasn't drilled you on this already), mention some of the surprising foods vegans can't eat (white sugar??? What?!) and play our routine loosely related game of the week, before talking about our experience of actually trying to be a vegan for a week. The goal, as always - to help you decide if you should bother trying it too. P.S. If you consider yourself a “bonafide meathead”, consider calling yourself something else. Because Meathead is just a ridiculous phrase to say out loud. Here's one you might not have heard about. More like a massage than actual yoga, Face Yoga experts - like Koko Hayashi, for any Shark Tank fans out there - claim that 10 minutes of this a day is the key to looking younger. The question floating around the Should I Bother studio, however, is - are they talking out their hoop? (for our international listeners, this is Dublin talk for, “Are they speaking nonsense from their bum?”)As you might have come to expect by now, we're on a quest to find the answer in our typical fashion of trying it for a week and making a decision on it. There's a bit of scientific research mentioned, a few words said about the Face Yoga app, Luvly, a dumb game we made up in the middle, and all neatly wrapped up with our opinions on if you should bother with this or not. Want to get some practice in during the episode? With your right hand, make the shape as if you're gripping a stick or pole. Now hold that shape and bring it to your forehead. Got it? Great. Now move that hand forward and backward from your forehead as you listen to the entire episode.Keep it up. You'll be a Face Yoga Pro before you know it. Remember when everyone and their Mam's had a fitbit? Well that was the beginning of the fitness tracker craze, almost 20 years ago. And it's come along way since. Garmin, Apple, Oura, Whoop - plenty of brands have created wearable fitness trackers to track more than just 10,000 steps a day. But are they worth the significant money you pay for them? And should you bother your arse investing in one? Since it offers a “free” trial (more on that in the episode), we decided to test out the Whoop 4.0 for 2 weeks to give our verdict. So in case you're already sick of seeing people share their Whoop stats on instagram, now you've got one more to tut at.Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? Has it crossed your mind at all that it's been 20 weeks since we first started to “Learn Spanish”?? Yes - the inverted commas were intended and will give you a hint into exactly how it went. Maybe if you were here you'd say, ¿Qué pasó? With the same passion and shock as your favourite telenovela character. And then we'd respond with, “What the f**k does that mean? Hablas inglés?!”We did still have a laugh though and do share some learnings on what we'd do differently if we tried to learn any language again. If you want to avoid making the same mistakes we did, have a listen amigo. If you're not sure what's going on, go back to part 1 (“Learning a New Language (Spanish)”) that we recorded in September. Time for the big reveal! Last week we talked about the weird and (hopefully) wonderful activity that is, Laughter Yoga. This week, we talk about how our experience of trying it went. To recap, this activity involves maintaining eye contact with strangers while you fake laugh. Which is actually how we recommend you listen to this podcast by the way. Hope you enjoy xoxoLiked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? We'd love your review! Want to get in contact? Our newest addition of “most bizarre things to try on the pod”, is laughter yoga. Doesn't sound so bad, does it? Everyone likes to laugh! Well what if we said this involves forcing yourself to pretend to laugh, in a room full of strangers, while maintaining eye contact with them? Now what do you think? In spite of this, laughter yoga sessions are being hosted all around the world every week. We're going to try it and figure out why. If you're the kind of person that isn't usually clued in, here's a quick recap: In last week's episode, we discussed why anyone would bother with intermittent fasting - discussing things we talked about online, mixed in with the other usual bit of boll*cks we like to talk. On this week's episode, we're talking about our experience following 5 short days of actually trying it for ourselves. Spoiler! One of us found it more difficult than the other, but you probably suspected that with all the giving out Steph did in Part 1. If Intermittent Fasting is something you've always heard about but never bothered your hole trying, listen into this one to make a semi-informed decision for yourself, you lazy bean. The inevitable happened again. We all ate too much over Christmas and now we're looking for ways to reduce the consistent bloat. Well, have you thought about just skipping breakfast and eating less? Because that's pretty much what Intermittent Fasting is (if you do the 16/8 method). Unless you're a hardcore breakfast lover, on paper it sounds pretty easy - eat less calories by restricting the times at which you eat - but what's it like in practice? What about the H-ANGER?!Like, have you ever heard anyone say, “Yea I was pretty much a cranky pri*k because I was hungry all the time” after they tried it? I haven't. But is it wrong to be suspicious of that? This week, we're looking into all the research behind why anyone would bother with Intermittent Fasting, talking our usual sh*te throughout with a very loosely related game at the end. Next week we'll talk about our experience (and if we can confirm the “cranky pri*k suspicion”).Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? We'd love your review! A plain and simple minisode while we're on our Christmas Holibobs.Good few things happened in 2023 and for your entertainment, we made up some questions about them to quiz each other on. Basically just an excuse to chat a little bit more shi*e before the year is out! Other than that, have a great New Years :) We'll be back with our regular schedule on January 9th. Hosted on Acast. That time of the year again, when people say things like “Bah Humbug” and we all question why that was ever a phrase. But it's also time… for our second ever Christmas Special! And you know what that means! Do we bother with trying a new activity?! Absolutely fuc*ing not! We cannot, and shall not, be ARSED! Instead, this is an episode of 100% pure sh*te talk and games, all while slurping down some cocktails and occasional pauses for Steph's wheezy laugh.Expect a dramatic reading, some irrelevant news and a rendition of Frosty the Conman, among other Christmas bits and baubles. We spent the last week channelling our inner bargain hunters, visiting flea markets and skulking around charity shops. The objective - to try and determine if one man's trash truly is another man's treasure. On the hunt for some homeware, clothes and potentially Christmas gifts, we were curious. Would this convert us from full-time first-hand shoppers to second-hand fanatics? And amongst all the inevitable piles of sh*te being sold (not literally; reign in that naivety) how easy would it be to find what we were looking for? You're sure to get stuff cheap. There's an immediate win. But is it enough to overlook the potential frustrations or disappointments as your patience runs thin? If you're a thrift shopping virgin and wondering the same, fear not. All of these questions are answered for you, by us, in this very episode (what are the chances?!)So sit back, continue to online shop - or whatever you're supposed to be up to - and we'll help you decide, “is Thrifting something I should bother with?”Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? Thrifting - the act of rummaging through second-hand goods, delights and piles of sh*te to find a bargain on some item that you may or may not need. Unless you're Gen-Z - or a big fan of bargain hunters - there's a high probability that this isn't something you've done very often, or maybe.. ever. But as the world makes more stuff every year and we're all constantly reminded that it's slowly burning down, doesn't it make more sense for us to shop second-hand?Aside from the sustainable angle and those sweet sweet savings, there is also the chance of stumbling across something unique - maybe even a Christmas gift or two? This week, being a pair of big thrifting virgins, we're discussing everything we can find on thirfting - the best items to buy, tips for effective thrift shopping, the impact of fast fashion on the world - and mainly try to figure out, why do people bother with it at all! There's also a sh*te game thrown in (aptly called, “Have you Sniffed that Thrift?!”) So if any of that sounds interesting, or you think Thrifting might be the solution to your big Christmas bill this year, have a listen. Fast forward 7 days from our last episode and we've bought a lego set on Amazon and slowly assembled it, piece by piece. The most surprising thing: there was an 18+ age label on the side of the box! So Lego really can be specifically for adults! But have you ever wondered what that could be like? For most of us, lego usually resulted in some shi*ty, multi-coloured, random assembly of blocks when we were younger. Then you'd tear it down, step on it by accident, bubble with rage and not play with it for a few days. But what's it like to take it seriously, spending hours assembling something complex. It's got a hefty price tag - is it worth hundreds of that cash you burst your arse to make each week? And when it's all done, are you filled with pride? Or left feeling like a big man child, having spent hours with a toy instead of acting like a “grown up”. Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? Before we even talk about lego for adults, just go on and say it…. “Why don't we just grow up?” Fine. Yes, I know. But all the other grown ups are doing it! Or so we have read.Personally, neither Steph nor I can name a single friend that claims Lego as their hobby. But maybe there's more of them than you think? Shamefully interlocking blocks behind closed doors at home, hoping not to be discovered for the “Kidult” that they are.Contrary to that, there is also ‘Lego Masters' - an international reality TV show where Lego enthusiasts (AKA, AFOLs - Adult Fans of Lego) compete to create different designs. It's like the “Bake-Off of Lego”. And living proof that there are many adults out there, who fuc*ing love a birra Lego. Wha?!As per usual, in this episode, we're addressing the “why would you bother with this” side of things, with a little bit of research behind Lego for Adults, along with a bullsh*t game thrown in for good measure. Whether this is something you should bother doing is something we'll address next week, when we've had a chance to play around with Lego and knock each other's blocks off. Following up from our last episode, we popped into our local animal shelter over the last week to see what we could help with. Fully prepared to walk dogs, clean sh*t and possibly do a bit of in-house admin, what we really wanted to figure out were 4 things: 1. How much interaction do we get with the animals? (selfish, I know. But you were thinking it too. We‘re in this for the rubs!)2. Will volunteering for an hour give us this “helper's high” we've heard about? Or will we just be happy from playing with dogs?3. Does the time commitment actually add more stress to your life because you already have so little of it? 4. And the big one, as always; is this something we should bother doing consistently?Along with answering all of those pressing questions, we've also got our routine part 2 segments, “The Dumbest Among Us” and “Yoo-Hoo, What Should I Do-Hoo?” to sh*te talk through. So if you're curious about what it's like to volunteer at an animal shelter and also like a bit of irrelevant chat, listen in and let us know what you think!
