Five year old Jori in Indian Head talks to Santa! Weekdays at 7:35am and 4:35pm on GX94
Hi and welcome again to this latest episode of La Plata Ward 4 Update Podcast. This is David Jenkins, La Plata Town Council member from Ward 4 and your host for this podcast and the companion La Plata Ward 4 Video Update on YouTube. I want to talk about the Navy Facility in Indian Head and its implications for La Plata. At the November 14, 2023, County Commissioner meeting, representatives from IH, County EDC, the Chamber of Commerce's Military Alliance, the Town of Indian Head, and the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) discussed pending expansion at IH due to their unique capabilities to produce needed explosive resulting from the demands of world events – Ukraine, Middle East. There is a possible initial expansion of 200-400 employees in the next 5 years, with the potential for additional growth. All the partners stressed the need for continued collaboration. There is and will be significant economic impact on the Town of Indian Head, the County, and La Plata. This is really about placemaking, a key element of economic development. It's not just attracting businesses and jobs. This means having a walkable community, with diverse housing, shopping, recreation/parks, and other community amenities, to attract and retain employment! Work where you live is smart growth and reduces out commuting and traffic, and keeping and spending money here in La Plata, and the County.References:Downtown La Plata DevelopmentLa Plata Town Plans - 2020 Comprehensive PlanTown 2022 Strategic Plan This concludes this latest La Plata Town Council Ward 4 Update. I hope you find this podcast informative and useful. Let me know what you think. I look forward to your questions and comments. My email address is djenkins@townoflaplata.org Talk to you soon!

If you've heard part 1, you know all about the benefits and what to expect from an Indian Head Massage. This week we planned to see if the reality lined up with those expectations. So, we found an Ayurveda Clinic (if you're not sure what that is, think, Indian Alternative Medicine) thinking “now these lads will know their sh*t”, but it actually ended up being… kind of grim? Maybe a regular massage place would have been different? Less horror movie vibes, perhaps? Who knows. Anyway, the plan was to give a verdict on whether you should bother with Indian head massages and that's exactly what was achieved. So listen in! One of the original members of the U.S. Army's Special Forces Delta unit, Mike Vining, joins Tim to talk about his highly decorated career that started in Vietnam and ended in the late 1990s, encompassing many historical missions. Mike was an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operator in the Delta Force, among many other responsibilities. He tells us what goes through the mind of an explosives specialist when time is tight and it could be a matter of life and death. This episode was originally released August 10, 2020. https://traffic.libsyn.com/secure/shapingopinion/Encore_-_Delta_Force.mp3 Mike Vining was in high school when he saw the news about the Tet Offensive in Vietnam. The offensive was one of the largest and bloodiest attacks the communist forces of North Vietnam – the Viet Cong – waged against South Vietnamese and American troops. Mike saw what was happening and decided to join the military. He wanted to be in Vietnam joining the fight. Not long after that, Mike got his wish. Before shipping off to Vietnam, Mike completed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) program in the Army, which also involved learning how to dispose of nuclear weapons. The army sent Mike to Vietnam, where he spent 12 months on combat duty, before his honorable discharge in 1971. Two years later, Mike reentered the Army and served as an EOD specialist once again. That was the beginning of a long and decorated career in the Army that included serving as one of the first operators in the U.S. Army Special Forces, and its Delta Force unit. He saw action around the world, from missions to Iran during the 1979 U.S. embassy hostage crisis, to many other operations, ultimately serving on the ground in Operation Desert Storm. In this episode, Mike talks about the events that shaped the Special Forces, from an ill-fated desert mission to rescue 53 American hostages in the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, to many other touch and go situations. The drinking water for D.C., Falls Church and Arlington is very vulnerable as there is no Plan B if the Washington Aqueduct becomes compromised. WTOP's Neal Augenstein tells us about the quarry water officials are looking to as a potential answer to the question, where can we keep a reserve? And he explains the logistics behind creating what could be a 17-billion gallon backup. And, a few weeks after the Piscataway Tribe of Prince George's County thought it ended a seven-year fight to change the name of Route 210 from Indian Head Highway to Piscataway Highway, they've learned that state lawmakers only dedicated the road, they didn't rename it. WTOP's Mike Murillo explains how lawmakers' confusion let a lot of people down.

That's basically what we do all the time. ” - Dale 26:20 “I love that music though. I love the freedom of being able to just make it up as I go and play what I feel. And those guys encouraged me to sing, lead. That's the band I was in when Dale and I met and then now I just love being able to write with Dale, have our own stuff and not have to sing anybody else's stuff.” -Lisa 41:01 “I'm always practicing. I do my TrueFire, I do some of their courses. I'm always trying to learn something new. I love it.” - Dale 51:49 “My advice to anybody who wants to do music is to just play and enjoy it. Because even if nobody likes what you're doing, but you like what you're doing, I think you should just play and enjoy the music. Because as we talked earlier, there's so much ego in this business. And as long as you love what you're doing, you believe in what you're doing, I say just play, it doesn't matter if anybody likes it as long as you like it. And if you inspire just one person to play, I mean, it makes it all worth it. So that's me.” - Dale 52:26 “Don't doubt yourself, second guess yourself. Everybody has their own thing. God gave us all different talents and different gifts. So use yours. Don't compare that to anybody else there.” - Lisa Timestamps: 01:59 Introducing Saylor Dollar 03:15 Saylor Dollar talks about Tallahassee, Florida 04:00 Where do Saylor Dollar spend most of their time when going out and doing their performances? 05:25 How do Saylor Dollar put their material together and have their songs come together? 08:57How did Saylor Dollar start collaborating - when and where did they meet? 11:20 Listen to “Colored Water Sunshine” by Saylor Dollar 14:57 Saylor Dollar talks about the story behind “Colored Water Sunshine” 17:04 Sinkholes that you can swim in that are in Tallahassee, Florida 18:06 Saylor Dollar on their special favorites on alternate tuning and DADGAD tuning. 22:22 Gears and instruments that Saylor Dollar uses when they get out and play. 24:14 Lisa's powerful vocals and who she listened to before she started singing. 25:42 Lisa on joining a bluegrass band. 27:52 What are Saylor Dollar's process for getting ready for when they're going to do a record. 30:36 How does Saylor Dollar put their music together and what great do they use? 32:44 Saylor Dollar about doing a full band and a duo. 33:54 Listen to “Goodbye” by Saylor Dollar 37:58 What is the metaphor behind “Goodbye” and who had the personal experience with this song. 41:12 What does Lisa and Dale like to do for fun outside music and work? 42:44 Where are the best venues for their eclectic music? 46:10 At what age did Dale start playing and who did he listen to growing up? 48:57 When did Dale transition from heavy metal to something different? 50:18 Lisa as a teacher of strings. 51:18 Saylor Dollar's goodbye message to the audience and words of wisdom to the upcoming artists. 53:35 Listen to “Ride On” by James Kevin O'Connor Spotify Playlist: Did you miss the alumni of the dHarmic Evolution Podcast?
