Summary In this conversation, Lindsay Lusk shares her journey into motherhood, including struggles with infertility and postpartum depression. She discusses the challenges she faced and the lack of support she experienced. Lindsay emphasizes the importance of seeking help and advocating for oneself, sharing her own experience with finding the right medication for her postpartum depression. She encourages new moms to reach out for support and not be afraid to ask for help. Lindsay's story highlights the need for understanding and compassion for mothers experiencing postpartum depression and anxiety. Takeaways Struggles with infertility can be emotionally challenging and may require seeking medical help. Postpartum depression and anxiety are common and can have a significant impact on a mother's mental health. It is important to seek help and support from healthcare professionals and loved ones when experiencing postpartum depression or anxiety. Advocating for oneself and finding the right medication can make a significant difference in managing postpartum mental health. New moms should not be afraid to ask for help and should prioritize their own well-being to be the best mothers they can be. Motherhood comes with challenges, but accepting it as a life choice can bring fulfillment. Goals and priorities may shift as a result of motherhood, and that's okay. Motherhood can provide an opportunity to heal and nurture your inner child. Self-care is essential for mothers to maintain their well-being and show up as the best version of themselves. Motherhood is a multifaceted journey that encompasses a variety of roles, experiences, and emotions. Striking a balance between family, work, and personal needs can be quite demanding. So, what happens when divorce is added to the mix? For mothers facing this change, their children's well-being and their ability to parent effectively in this new situation become major concerns. Worries about not doing enough, overextending themselves, and comparing themselves to other parents can lead to mom guilt, resulting in overwhelm, doubt, increased stress, fatigue, burnout, and exhaustion. Oftentimes this area of motherhood goes unchallenged, causing us to not redefine what motherhood can be and look like. We adopt beliefs and outdated narratives that can keep us stuck in old patterns that may no longer serve us or our children. This can hinder our ability to grow as parents and individuals. By questioning these assumptions and embracing a new, more authentic approach to motherhood, we can better navigate this journey and create a nurturing environment that supports both our children and ourselves. About the Episode On the Strike a Balance Podcast for Working Homeschool Moms this week, I chat to Autumn McKay. With over a decade of marriage and the proud parent of two sons and a daughter, Autumn brings a wealth of personal experience to her work. Her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher led her to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education, subsequently acquiring certifications in multiple states. Balancing her passion for education with the joys and challenges of motherhood, she's channeled her passion into creating engaging activities for my children, resulting in successful books like The Ultimate Toddler Activity Guide and The Ultimate 1 Year Old Activity Book. Understanding the importance of nurturing young minds, she's expanded her series to cover various age groups, from toddlers to first graders. Recognizing the burnout that can accompany motherhood, she developed The Full Life Gratitude Journal for Moms to help others find joy and mindfulness in their daily lives. Beyond education and parenting, she finds joy in outdoor activities with her family, dream vacation planning, and immersing herself in the pages of captivating books. It's always so important to talk about burnout. Autumn has some really practical tips to share to help you balance when everything becomes overwhelming. That's why I've created a checklist with 100 tips I've gathered since I started out in 2017. The checklist is divided into 5 sections with 20 tips each. It will help you to take your first steps on this new adventure, feeling confident and supported. The tips are divided into: Time management tips Homeschool and learning tips Organization tips Self care tips Mindset tips https://mylittlehomeschool.com/100-tips-for-new-working-homeschool-moms/ Sponsor for the Episode Working homeschool mom, I know how overwhelming it can be to choose a math curriculum for your homeschool. That's why I'd like to tell you about the online math curriculum we've been using for years – CTCMath.com. As far as math curriculums go, it has loads of great features that solve lots of the math issues we've had and I know a lot of homeschooling families have. Here are a few of the features (from the many) that we really like: Questions are adaptive which means the interactive questions change in difficulty depending on the student's ability. They use a smart algorithm that tracks the student's progress and delivers questions based on their unique needs. The student doesn't even know this is happening, helping them to build confidence and master concepts! Concepts are delivered through video tutorials and summaries which are clear, complete, and easy to follow [like having your very own teacher]. This ensures your children understand something before they're asked to practise it. And then for us parents, CTCMath has: Extensive reports which are valuable in monitoring your child's progress and spotting any gaps. And they offer a 12-month money-back guarantee if this curriculum is not for you and your family. CTCMath will provide a full refund, no questions asked. But I think the most important things is a whole lot LESS stress when it's math time for both parents AND kids. You get to outsource math with confidence and your kids get a fantastic tailor-made programme that makes learning and mastering math enjoyable and positive. Jill had a happy, healthy 20-year relationship with her college sweetheart, two wonderful kids, and a rescue cat from the Humane Society. They lived in a nice suburban home with a white picket fence and owned a small bar that was rated one of the "Best Mom and Pop" businesses in Tampa Bay. From the outside everything looked "perfect". As Pride Month begins, this episode is a reminder that everyone deserves the same love and respect that you and I expect for ourselves. Jillian was a married mother to two amazing kids when, at the age of 38 she came to finally accept that she was, in fact, a lesbian. Her book, Perfectly Queer: Facing Big Fears, Living Hard Truths, and Loving Myself Fully Out of the Closet is a number one bestseller and tells the story of how an overachieving, "perfect" child finally came to accept her whole truth. In the episode Jill and I talk about coming out, whether it's to family, friends, co-workers or anyone else and how we can all be kinder, if not allies. Also, as a side note, her social media is fire! Instagram FacebookTik-TokLife and Love in the Q podcast.
It may have started with her daughter wanting to join the Youth Alive step team, however, Leah Reed's involvement in the Women of Color Giving Circle was a spiritual extension of the legacy of her legendary grandmother Edna Wilks and the Monday Night Club. And it is a true Circle, says Leah, as "everyone can contribute and everyone has something to give" as it relates to providing mentorship to build self-esteem and resilience for the young people of color in our community. Her experience is informed by Leah's own journey that included losing both her parents at a very young age, but never forgetting their lessons of respect and prioritizing education. Earning the wonderful accolade as Best Mom at the 2023 Albany Tulip Festival, Leah has three children, including an oldest daughter who she has fostered for more than a decade and will soon be adopted, which is sure to be a joyous occasion. This weekend the Women of Color Giving Circle will celebrate the latest graduating class of young people of color, another tradition started by the organization to recognize success. Also in this episode we cover: the contributions of Leah's grandmother Edna Wilks, being proactive rather than reactive in developing mentorship, Leah's journey as a young person of color at Monument Mountain and navigating life after losing her father at 16, setting high standards, her work to earn her masters at Boston University School of Social Work, learning to provide constructive feedback effectively, exposing children to financial literacy, music, expressive dance and other cultural arts, disparity in health care for African Americans, the surprise honor of Mom of the Year at the Albany Tulip Festival and more. I hope you enjoy my conversation with Leah Reed. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/john-krol/support

Wearing masks, twenty people stood on the street outside the hospital holding signs: “BEST MOM!” “LOVE YOU.” “WE ARE WITH U.” With the help of a nurse, Kelly made her way to a fourth-floor window. “All we could see was a facemask and a waving hand,” her husband posted on social media, “but it was a beautiful facemask and waving hand.” Late in his life, the apostle Paul felt alone as he languished in a Roman prison. He wrote to Timothy, “Do your best to get here before winter” (2 Timothy 4:21). Yet Paul wasn’t totally alone. “The Lord stood at my side and gave me strength,” he said (v. 17). And it’s also apparent that he had some encouraging contact with other believers. “Eubulus greets you,” he said to Timothy, “and so do Pudens, Linus, Claudia and all the brothers and sisters” (v. 21). We’re created for community, and we feel that most keenly when we’re in crisis. What might you do for someone who may feel entirely alone today?
