Lesson 36: Stop "should-ing" on yourself. Want or need. Commitment: From this moment on, I joyfully promise to never give up on my goals and dreams. ACIM: lesson 35: my mind is part of god's and I am very holy. If you envision yourself as a sacred and godlike being you will never feel separate and alone and will question those thoughts that keep us separate. How to stop “Should-ing on yourself” 1) Identify when you say the word should in your vocabulary. Remember to look for other similar words. “ought to, have to etc.” 2) Decide why you want to do this action? See if it is truly your voice or the voice of family or society etc. Is this voice your own critical voice? 3) Identify the feeling that comes with it, guilt, shame, you will notice what kind of actions are propelled with those emotions. Notice prior results which didn't get you to your “should” goals and identify what feeling were propelling these actions. Acting based on negative feelings usually produce the opposite results or a short-term result accompanies with a lot of resentment, burnout and buffering behavior. 4) See if you can find a compelling reason that speaks to you about why you “should” be doing this habit or action. ACIM lesson 34: “I could see peace instead of this” Peace of mind is an internal matter. Has to begin with your own thoughts and extend outward. It is from your peace of mind that a peaceful perception of the world arises. Sometimes feelings of depression, anxiety or worry about a situation, person, or event, gently remind yourself that you can replace those feelings with peace. 5 steps to deciding what kind of time you are going to have, 1. Reframe your expectations: Instead of focusing on past experiences, approach the songwriting camp with an open mind and consider it as a fresh opportunity to learn and grow as an artist. Embrace the challenge and see it as a chance to expand your creativity. 2. Understand your own mind and your thought errors: Noone cool will be there, I wasn't going to have a good time, there isn't enough choice, the teachers aren't as good etc. Do a thought download, identify the thought errors and either go deeper and string the thoughts along relating them to early thoughts and hurts or decide to create a ladder thought or a slightly better feeling and just as true thought. 3. Set specific goals: Identify specific goals or skills you want to improve during the camp. By having clear objectives, you can focus your energy on achieving them and feel a sense of accomplishment, which can enhance your overall experience. 4. Embrace the possibilities: Instead of assuming that the camp won't be fun, embrace the uncertainty and see it as an opportunity for growth. New experiences often bring unexpected joys, friendships, and insights that can make the camp not only enjoyable but also transformative. 5. Do the work beforehand: Choose to approach the songwriting camp with a positive and optimistic mindset. Remind yourself that your mindset has the power to influence your experience and that a positive attitude can make any situation more enjoyable. Lesson 33 in a course in Miracles- “There is another way to look at the world”-recognize that you can shift your perception of the world both inner and outer. Visited my mother and sat with a lovely 85-year-old woman who is still smoking. I am not dogmatic about what I believe people should do. I live my life as an example of what is possible about achieving health and well-being whether people will come along or not is their choice. She wanted to stop because she didn't like it anymore and was having a hard time breathing but felt like she couldn't because it was a habit and she had been doing it for so long. She couldn't even imagine her identity without it. The idea of having to continue to do what you've always done. Quitting for a smoker who has been smoking for 65 years: 1) Compelling why? You will have to come up with your own very important reason why you would like to quit that means so much to you that you are willing to continue to try until you achieve your goal. 2) Consult your future self: Ask your future self what they would like to see for you in the future. 3) Plan in advance: Write down everything you are going to smoke 24 hours in advance and stick with it. 4) Allow urges the way you would allow any feeling: Allow for an urge by fully feeling what it feels like in your body, visualizing size, shape, color, texture, etc. When you have allowed an urge without responding or answering it put a marble in a jar and watch them accumulate. I feel like life is hard. Things don't seem to go easy. It is filled with blame and guilt and tragedy. On the other hand, if I join with the Holy Spirit, the world looks very different. Taking Charge of Your Mood: 5 Steps to Empower Yourself and take the power back to have the kind of day you want. Have you ever noticed how one person's bad mood can affect an entire room? It's time to take control and not let anyone's negativity overpower the positivity around you. With these 5 simple steps, you can ensure that no one person's bad mood ruins the collective good vibes. Let's dive in! 1. Understand what you are thinking. You can't really change anything when you don't know what you are thinking. So if someone is in a bad mood and then you end up in a bad mood than something might need a re-evaluation! Consider doing a thought download or at least digging for the one dominant thought 2. Decide what you might want to think on purpose: Practice using slightly better thoughts and possibly move up the thought ladder. 3. Practice Active Listening and Empathy: When someone is in a bad mood, make an effort to understand their feelings without getting sucked into their negativity. Tired of being depressed, tired of holding resentments over petty issues. It's important to understand how and why things are going well instead of assuming it's just luck. As if you tripped over the good feeling and can never get it back again. It is our brain that decides whether something is good or bad. I was in the car the other day driving to help my friend pick up her daughter and we were stuck in traffic. 1) I Never question my value as a human a) High five myself b) Tapping for self-love c) Empathy with my younger self and remember that I was always good. 2) Go back to the young child that feels bad: a) Travel back with present-day confident and older self, and all of the people around me and remind the little girl that she is good, deserving of love and respect, and that everything will be ok 3) Handle and allow feelings a) When emotions arise, try to observe them from an outside perspective and take note of their characteristics such as color, shape, size, and physical sensations like temperature and location in the body. Allow the feelings to happen without judgment. b) It's important to keep in mind that experiencing emotions doesn't necessarily mean that something has gone wrong. c) Keep in mind that our emotions are connected to your thought, over which we have some level of control. 4) Remember that thoughts are fleeting and malleable a) Find a better feeling or ladder thought b) Know what your thoughts are c) Do a thought download 5) Have Fun with our thinking a) Instead of getting upset, try to be curious about the thoughts your brain is offering. Remember that these thoughts will come and go, but being hard on ourselves will only make the suffering worse. b) Find the silver lining or whatever is amusing about what you are thinking. You always attack yourself first, which weakens you in your own eyes. You've attacked your perception of yourself and you can no longer believe in yourself. Steps to figuring out: What is the lesson here? What am I supposed to learn? Step 1) Consider both the worst-case and best-case scenarios equally. Step 2) Reflect on what you can learn from the situation and what the lesson is. Step 3) Take the time to deal with any negative thoughts that arise and try to focus on more positive ones. You can try journaling, tapping, or reaching out to me for guidance. Step 4) Come up with a plan to fix the situation, either through imagination or action. Step 5) Rinse and Repeat. Friends come in pain we don't identify with the pain but are guided by the love of the friend and give them the space to experience it and work through it. Trust their strength in figuring it out. Today's idea accurately describes the way anyone who holds attack thoughts in his mind must see the world. ²Having projected his anger onto the world, he sees vengeance about to strike at him. ³His own attack is thus perceived as self defense. ⁴This becomes an increasingly vicious circle until he is willing to change how he sees. ⁵Otherwise, thoughts of attack and counter-attack will preoccupy him and people his entire world. 4 steps to stop people pleasing- 1) Awareness: Curiously and compassionately start watching what you are doing (start building a different relationship with yourself. 2) Thought swapping: Find a believable thought, I'm safe to help your nervous system down. No becomes a dominant voice in our heads acts like a disease shutting down our possibilities. 5 steps to making "Yes" the default setting for Joy, happiness and a big life! 1) Awareness: be aware if your first inclination is a “No”. usually that is put in place to protect us from being taken advantage of us or to keep us in a dominant position so that we don't feel like we are loosing control. 2) Identify: the underlying thought that is causing us to say no and see if it truly related to the situation. Do thought downloads to see if you can “mine” some other dominant thoughts. 3) Practice: saying Yes or even yes and in a brainstorming situation. 4) ReEvaluate: what comes up when saying these words and Identify the thoughts and feelings that come up. 5) Enroll Help if Necessary: Get some help in there with tapping on negative thoughts or first responses, do thought dumps or downloads, phone a friend, get some coaching. 6) Rinse and repeat until that becomes the default. Idea that anything that is private now is a fabrication and illusion. We are all of one mind and let go the thoughts of separation and isolation. Minds are joined. One more baby step towards my release from limitation. How to deal with your thoughts that people are mad at you if they don't respond to your text. 1) Decide: that you are going to choose a reason that acutually could be just as true as the one that you are believing or thinking: ie: they have a lot going on, not in the mood to talk or depressed, forgot to hit send, driving or working, in social situations. 2)Check in: ask if everything is ok? If you get really gutsy you might ask if they are upset with you but don't freak out when they have no idea what you are talking about. If they are upset hopefully they will tell you and you have the possibility to make it right or apologize if need be. 3) Be Curious: as to why you are having the thoughts that make you believe that they are upset because they hadn't answered. When in doubt real curiosity is always useful. Everything is an opportunity to learn something new. 4) Compassion: be compassionate to your self in remembering that their upset or lack of response is not the sum total of who you are as a person or your connection in the world. You are loveable and worthy. 5) Opportunity: Take the opportunity to use those feelings and work on those placed in your life where you feel unloveable, alone or easily forgotten. Journal, EFT tapping, call a friend, do something fun or helpful to others. start a gratitude list, notice the benignrealities around you. It also emphasizes the idea that minds are joined and if there is a false perception about something and reinforced by someone else we hold onto the same. It's colluding with someones pain or struggles could validate then and sometimes reinforce it. Changing how I experience something or someone is an act of conviction and a determination to place my attention on peace rather than on conflict. If I find this difficult, it is only because I still have an interest in experiencing the conflict. When the interest fades, so too will the conflict. A Course in Miracles: Lesson 17: "I see no neutral things" Because you have no neutral thoughts-there is always comparing and judging to previous ideas of how things should be. Because I can't separate my thoughts and judgment I am still not always sure if the way I see the world is in alignment with my tru beliefs. Bring the past to the present. Our ideas are limited, can find everything tainted with limitations. We mis-create from fear. Notice when you make a misjudgment and what thoughts are not aligned with your real wants or beliefs. Ask yourself is another way of seeing it? Little steps toward freedom of really deciding what to think on purpose. How to decide not to make something a problem: 1) Identify the negative patterned thought you are having about this event? You know if it's a chronic recording or belief because if will keep coming back to you and dominate your thinking and create a feeling of unease. Some examples are: “They don't love me enough or I am not important enough” You will be looking for evidence or rehearsing the perceived hurt over and over again. 2) Identify the feeling behind it: It will cause a sensation in your body: loneliness, anger victimization etc. Allow yourself to feel it fully, name it and identify all the sensations. What better feeling would you rather have and pick a thought that might give you that feeling. “Everybody is doing the best they can to keep themselves above water” 3) Decide to not make it a problem: Is there any other way you can look at it? Sometimes it is just as simple as deciding that there is no problem there. 4) Take responsibility for the solution rather than hoping that people will read your mind about what you want. What could you have done differently in order to make your desires or wishes known. 5) Opportunity to grow: Use feelings and repetitive thoughts that come up as opportunities to work on unresolved hurts and emotions that will continue to appear to be worked on. Lesson 16 a course in Miracles. “I have no neutral thoughts” Everything you see is the result of your thoughts. There is no exception to this fact. Thoughts are not big or little; powerful or weak. They are merely true or false. A few times a day scan your thoughts and say: This thought about _________ is not a neutral thought. When you are irritated say. ⁶This thought about ____________ is not a neutral thought, because I have no neutral thoughts. There is no throw away thought and if you believe it is meaningless then you lose the opportunity to see how it's affecting you or not. Every thought brings me peace or love, war or conflict. I struggled sleeping the other night and figured out how not to be freaked out and decrease the sleeplessness. When sleep doesn't go as planned this is a start to figuring out how not to increase the anxiety. 1) Try not to freak out nothing has gone wrong, there is no certainty that you will be tired during the day or have a bad day. 2) Try to stay relaxed and use your awake time as a time to meditate, deep relaxation breathing or tapping. Even just relaxing will give your body the rest it needs to rejuvenate and you could even grow from it. 3) Don't start watching TV or grab your phone. The blue light emitted by your cell phone screen restrains the production of melatonin, the hormone that controls your sleep-wake cycle (aka circadian rhythm)(could take some melatonin) 4) Wake up at your normal time and do your normal morning routine to set your day up for success 5) Watch the critical self-talk about how you are going to be during the day and what the day will be like. 6) You can take your day a little slower and really stay present without rushing around. 7) Envision how well you are going to sleep the next night rather than worry if you will have another sleepless night. Inner thoughts appear as outer images in order to validate the thoughts we are thinking made to look on error and not see past it.” Part of what we must begin to learn is to look past the bodily level, to begin to realize that what our eyes are showing us is not necessarily the truth. Our eyes are showing us only the errors of our own minds. Edges of light something there to be seen beyond the physical. This is the where we continue to give up our beliefs about the world as an unsafe place full of horrors and leave open the opportunity to create a new reality. 8 steps to staying relaxed with anticipated hardships: 1) Entertain the possibility that it might be ok or even easy. The truth is you don't know if it is going to be hard or not. Give equal air time to the possibility that it is going to be ok. 2) Check in with the future feeling that you are trying to avoid by making the assumption about how hard something is and then allow the feelings. Though the processes you've learned before. Know you can handle any feeling 3) Take the situation one step at a time and try not manage a million things at once to avoid confusion paralysis 4) Plan or rehearse what you are going to do if the situation gets hard. 5) Prepare techniques to help you make it through a hard situation and get things done. Breathing exercises, positive intelligence exercises. 6) Make sure that you have your own caretaking routine in place before the situation happens. 7) See if you can enroll an ally to help you or be with you while you do hard things. 8) Is there any opportunity to have more fun with the possible hard situation. Infuse some fun or notice something funny about anything. It seems as if the world determines what you perceive. Today's idea introduces the concept of your thoughts determine the world you see. The key to forgiveness and all change lie in it. Begin with your eyes closed and repeat the idea slowly to yourself. Open your eyes and look around and say the theme of the day. Practice casually for a minute 3-5 times a day. As I think of my thoughts as meaningless and as showing me a meaningless world, I realize that what I used to base every perception I have on, is an ego that wants to keep me focused in the ‘physical reality' or dream state, where I am trapped into a roller coaster of emotions and events that leave me exhausted, desperate, confused, and frustrated. This is not a life. This is an absurd existence. Capitalism is based on trying to sell us things that will make us feel better and there is no benefit to capitalism for us to be able to create our reality without some external lubricant. 7 steps to manifesting your desires. 1) Know your desire and put it out to the universe. This could just you thinking of it or telling someone else about it. Remember to be careful who you share this with if their energy is not one who believes in manifestation or can be easily discouraged. Generally the manifestions that can be set in motion are for the great good either for yourself, someone else or the world. 2) Align your vibration for this manifestation to the world through relaxed meditation, journaling, kind acts to yourself and others etc. 3) Try not to give it a time limitation. if you don't attach yourself to a time limitation your desires will generally come more quickly. When we decide there is a time constraint usually we act out of urgency, desperation and it makes us act and look weird changing our vibration and what we attract or what we can see. 4) Work on your early disappointments and discouragement that can make us believe that our desires are out of reach. Ask yourself: What is your earliest memory about being discouraged or disappointed. Day 9: A Course in Miracles. "I see nothing as it is now" Look around the room and say: "I do not see this (thing, person, place) as it is now" There is a leap of faith to practise without even complete understanding and trust that all of what we see is influenced by our past. 1) Notice that your response might be more intense than the actual situation and use it as a window to realizing it is a triggered, trauma response. Nothing has gone wrong this is just your brain trying to protect you from a possible recurrence of the old hurtful situation. 2) Thank your brain for trying to protect you and be extremely compassion on yourself rather than internally recreate the harsh situations that got you to that feeling to begin with. 3) Allow the feeling to wash over you and try not to react. When we start reacting from the hurtful feelings we start to do things that won't serve us in the future ie get mad, drink or eat more than we should, overly apologize, remove ourselves from a social situation etc. This could be very quick or take a while but with more practice easier hurts and triggers will move through you quickly. 4) Consider journaling or talking to a friend that knows how to listen without interruption or judgement. 5) Practice visualizing the situation and practice deciding what you want to feel and what thoughts you would need to reach for to feel it. Do a quick thought download 1-20 minutes and identify the small upsets and put them into the phrase ie: I am worried about ____ because I see something that isn't there. Don't decide whether something is more meaninful or not so that you can actually be subjective about what you worrying about and allow to take over your thinking. You can do this for a minute 4 times a day. We talk about indecision as being a stealer of dreams and often not in alignment with what we really want. Often we know what we want but convince ourselves that we should be feeling or doing something else and employing any method we can find to make it bearable and feel ok. Once you make a decision you will have alot of feelings which doesn't mean that anything has gone wrong. Often there will be hard feelings that come up to be worked on but again nothing has gone wrong. My daughter safely got back from Peru after finding herself in the middle of a revolution and protests and now my son is ready to start his travelling adventure backpacking, hitch-hiking and working in Argentina. I took off after college to study Mandarin and Acupuncture and teaching English in Taiwan. All of these were very different type of life evolving travel experiences and definite possibilities for your next life step if interested and not looking to get a "real" job. Hello Lovelies, Allowing Urges and not responding, reacting, white knuckling or giving into urges is the cornerstone to be able to overcome addictions or habits that don't give us results we want. If you ask your tomorow self how they would like their mind and body treated, the decisions we make would more likely be in line with how we envisino our future and how we would like to show up. An Urge is a feeling that follow a well practised thought like "I deserve to have that drink because I had a hard day" or "One piece of cake won't hurt me" with the feeling that there is little control of the outcome: Allow that feeling to be in your body fully, which means: -Feel the feeling. -Imagine the color and shape. -What sound would it make? -What would it say or tell you? -Experience the sensation of having that drink or cake. -What would you feel the next day, next week, month and year -When you get through an urge without answering, praise yourself and put a marble in a jar. This is your URGE JAR When you hit 100 urges you can do and handle anything. Hello lovely parents, As you know my daughter Lili was cast in a nationally touring musical In this episode we discuss how fear of the unknown affects how we show up and our ability to go for our hopes and dreams no matter what they are. We also continue to dive into how to be able to feel a feeling and not be scared and allow our children to also feel their feeling while staying present, not taking it on as your own and not deciding something went wrong.
