From the social media platform that brought us trending dances, throwing cheese slices on a babies face and singing along to 'That's not my name'. Tik Tok are now trending the idea of 'Quiet Quitting'. In today's age where it is all the rage to 'own your own seven-figure-business' (again - thank you Social Media). The reality is that a job isn't a dirty word. A job can give you security, it can give you $$ for a pension, it can give you a break from your children. It can give you your work bestie and it can actually be something that you love.

How often do you love what you do? Do you feel that you have no choice but do the work you do? In today's episode we call out those times when we can feel trapped in our work and what we can do to re-engage with the workplace and find purpose in the work that we do. We look at how money can at times trap us in our roles and why loving the work you do can be such a grey area at times but once you do find purpose in your work how it can make such a difference to your life. When talking to them you need to speak to them on your level: “Have these conversations like two adults in the room, they are not your parents. And that's something that we really need to change in the workplace.” 2) On finding purpose and paying for a career coach: “You don't need a coach for that! What you actually need is to want to enjoy your work!” 3) The people can make or break the workplace “Do you enjoy the people that you work with? Have a real think about it, because that's actually one of the big things. They say you don't leave a job, you leave the boss, and [sometimes you need to] leave a toxic workplace.”

In today's episode our host Nikki speaks to Rebekah Fraser, The Back to Work Coach. They discuss the career transformation you go through the moment you realise you are about to become a parent. They look at the things you need to ask ahead of going on parental leave and how you navigate those first few months when you know you are pregnant but really trying to pretend you aren't (not an easy task!). Using experiences from their own pregnancies as well as delving into their own time in corporate they look at ways for us to empower ourselves to ask the right questions and get maternity leave that benefits both us as new parents as well as the employer. Nikki and Rebekah also talk about the vulnerability and mindset shifts we need to manage around asking for what we want in the workplace and the importance of paving the way for the next generation in the same way our previous generations paved the way for us. This episode is not just for women we also discuss paternity leave and how FINALLY the world is starting to see that Dad's need to have an active role in the household as well as the office. (29.50) 2) “I think when you are pregnant or when you have just had a child you feel so vulnerable about life and everything that's going on that you automatically start worrying about it rather than empowering yourself and taking control of the situation.” Rebekah and Nikki discuss their feelings at the first stage of pregnancy and what they have seen from others. That fear of the unknown comes to us all at times but we need to ensure that it doesn't affect our ability to ensure we are mindful about the parental leave we want from our employer. (09.43) 3) “I think we can sometimes fall into the trap of thinking, well, that's my organisation or workplace's responsibility to initiate those conversations with me.” (07.50) Too many times in our career we feel that our employer should take the lead with work conversations. Promotion, Pay Rise, Parental Leave etc. But we should all feel empowered to have those discussions. In today's episode Nikki speaks to Ben and Sarah, Founders of Dancing Sands Gin Distillery. Ben and Sarah started their careers quite traditionally, working their way up the corporate ladder. By most people's standards they had extremely successful careers which enviously took them around the world and even helped them obtain a visa to New Zealand. However, when their daughter was only 10 weeks old they found themselves purchasing as Gin Distillery in Takaka, Golden Bay without any prior experience. Fast forward to 4 years later and Dancing Sands is New Zealand's most awarded distillery and has won many awards across the globe including back-to-back Platinum medals at the consumer led SIP awards in the USA (2018/2019) where it was voted the best barrel aged gin in 2018. And ask yourself what's the worst that can happen? The answer is probably that things will just go back to the way they were. (5.24) 2) “As a couple it was important that we have a similar mindset.” Sarah discusses the importance of support in the relationship, how they have built boundaries and never forgetting that you are in it together. (9.06) 3) “Our parents have instilled hard work, resilience, and determination into both of us and that sees us through the more challenging phases of running a small business.” We talk about how our parents can determine our work ethic and how that resilience can help when we are doing work when we really don't want to.” (31.29). And I believe that if they had opened up, if they'd spoken more, something could have changed and it wouldn't have to happen like that.” 2) On always being there for a friend: “If someone's going through a relationship separation, a job loss, you probably would reach out to a mate naturally, in that scenario. But actually, sometimes the big life moments that from the outside seem incredibly positive, can trigger mental health issues because people build up the expectations, and if they don't feel how they think they should be feeling, then it gets them to a place where they feel wrong about themselves.” 3) On the view of men in 2020: “I think the idea of what it means to be a man is changing and there's lots of conversations around modern masculinity and what that looks like. I think more and more men are feeling it's okay to be vulnerable at times. It's okay to open up. And particularly in a British culture, you don't have to have that kind of stoic, stiff upper lip anymore. And I think it's only through that really grassroots kind of change that we will impact further down the line and make sure that less and less people are getting to that point as well.” A Podcast Company - is the leading podcast production company for brands, organizations, institutions, individuals, and entrepreneurs. 001 - Janine Newberry: You Are Enough In our first episode, Nikki Thomas chats with Janine Newberry, model, presenter and success coach. A bright eyed girl from Yorkshire, Janine always wanted to be a model. Told by everyone around her that it wasn't a real job, Janine stuck to her ambitions and has now been on the cover of numerous magazines and travels the world for photo shoots and TV commercials, but it hasn't been without its setbacks. Following two life-changing accidents - one while surfing and another on a motorbike in Bali, Janine ended up unable to walk and had to start over. We discuss believing in yourself, taking risks and pushing through when you are at your lowest point. It's about remembering ‘You Are Enough!'
